Occasionally I get no data connection & I have to restart the phone, does any body else have that issue?

Haven't had that issue myself.

That works I wonder if its an issue, if anyone else has the prob let me know

I have that issue as well, idk why it happens but I'll add it to the list of problems for when I call to get a replacement.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
That just happened to me today also. It switched from "H" to "E", then when I opened USA Today it FC-ed and the icon turned into a generic Android one like the app was on the SD card and unavailable (even though it's installed to phone) and then 5 more background apps that I didn't even know were running FC-ed (Amazon MP3, Finance, QuickOffice, something and then Facebook three times?) and the phone locked up. I was able to power off then back on, but data never came back even after waiting about 10 minutes until I powered off and on again. Quite odd.
I get the same issue where am connected to wifi and as soon as i walk away from it it doesnt connect back to the data network. I got a replacement phone coming so hopefully i dont have the same issue. Another thing is the random reboot and i get black screen a lot especially after rebooting
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I've had the issue, but each time it appears to be related to JuiceDefender not properly enabling the radio. If I shut JuiceDefender off, the connection comes back, although sometimes its just easier to airplane mode it and be done with it.
I called T-Mo about it, they said call about a week after the inital release date and see if they have a fix by then, there isnt enough information kept since it hasnt been officially released yet.
I'm having the same trouble. Are you guys on the new sim card? I popped in the new sim card and the tech told me to not use it and just save it. I noticed when I put the new sim card a notification of a new voicemail came on. I didn't have any voicemail.
Edit: I'm starting to have some serious data issues. I'll get cut off, but my phone will still show full bars and "H". I try the whole airplane thing and it still does nothing. I constantly get the "check network setting, try again or cancel". My market wont load, browser says "unable to connect." This is getting stupid. When I call T Mobile it always start working and then cuts off shorty after hanging up. I've never had this isssue before. I live in the middle of the city. Only 3G around here. Its getting annoying.
Guys I'm afraid that it might problem with the antenna placement. Holding the phone on the bottom half will drop me from 3 bars of "H" to 4 bars of "G", then it will bounce back up to 4 bars of "E". If left on a desk then it will remain at 3-4 bars of "H". I notice this especially at a place where I have low-mid signal, such as my school (reinforced concrete FTL). When I have a strong 4 bar signal, it usually won't drop all the way down to edge but I do loose a few bars. I hope a simple software issue is enough to reduce this effect. I might be being crazy paranoid but I'm definitely noticing a lower signal than on my G1.
Try holding the phone by the edges, then hold it in a normal grip and see if the signal strenght changes (Menu->settings->status->signal strength)
I just got off the phone with tmo and was told its a known issue with the network affecting about 10% of users. The issue started for me yesterday on my hd2. He also said they have people working on it. I asked if I could get my buyers remorse set back 14 more days to ensure the issue is not permanment but he said that they are no longer doing extentions. I'm sure if I get tranfered to retentions the answer would change. I hope.

I'm also having the same issue. I just rebooted my phone, so I haven't had the chance of switching airplane mode on/off yet. I'll let you guys know if that works for me, either way, I'm hoping there's a fix from T-Mo.

Wow that's funny, my MYTOUCH does the same thing with airplane mode off/on. I also remember that the store demo g2 I played with last night had the voicemail icon in the notification bar, but when you pull the bar down, there's no option to connect and retrieve the voicemail. I found that even weirder since the phone comes preloaded with google voice.
Also experiencing the same issue here in Phoenix. Been having it since I got the phone on Monday.
I have been in an ongoing round of tech calls and will be having a follow-up with the tech who I spoke with last night... I've tried everything from APN resetting to swapping the SIM card to a total factory wipe -- nothing is changing this for me.
I *know* my neighborhood has full 3G access, but I am maxed out at 1 Mbps. (Before the factory wipe I was getting 0.35 Mbps.) If this doesn't change I may just return the phone and switch to Sprint to get the Epic 4G. I mean, I'm not getting HSPA+ coverage either way, and at least with the Samsung Galaxy S Pro I'd have a full 5-row qwerty...
>_<
Wow, this is really too bad. I was SO excited about this phone...

If this happens, try going to settings->wireless->mobile network->network operators and see if you get an "Error while searching for networks" error as I did.
Reset fixed for me too. But it makes me worry.
I'm on a brand new sim card (switched to TM from ATT). I'm having some data issues too. I talked to TM tech support and they reset my connection but that did nothing. Now they're going to their android techs to see whats up.
Everytime I send an sms/mms my phone signal drops completely. Sometimes the messages send, sometimes they don't. I even tested this a couple times sending myself a text....anyone else experiencing this?
And yes I have tried restarting.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I've experienced this too, but only when I already have a pretty low signal. It never happens when I have a good signal (not based on the notification bar, actually reading the dBm).
ive had this issue with every tmobile phone i have ever owned. even my nokia n900 on tmobiles network had this issue.

Whenever I'm in a car or a bus, I tend to lose signal or even the data connection. It shows the bars but no data activity, and or loses the five bars and is empty. Ill go in phone status and check the phone signals are all 0. This just started happening, I'm going to give tmobile a call.

this may sound dumb, but could it be the way you are holding the phone? much like my nexus one, i find that when i hold the phone landscape my right hand willc over up the bottom of the phone where the antenna is and my signal drops. depending on how weak it was to start, sometimes i kill my signal. my G2 isnt as bad as my nexus was but it still happens sometimes ive noticed.

It is not an iPhone!
No but it happens anyway I hold it. Landscape or vertical, it loses signal even when I'm at my desk in class and not moving it will drop signal and then take abour 5-10secs to get the signal again.
And also I realized that when I have 1 bar, it will lose signal and then get 5 bars. I'm thinking it doesn't do good at holding signal and transferring from tower to tower.
Lol. Its not the way I'm holding the phone. I'll have full bars, then soon as I click send, I have none....then it goes from E to H.

Only when roaming or on EDGE
I have only had this happen while roaming or on an Edge network. We are very fortunate in Lubbock to have HSPA and GPRS, only a couple of towers are pushing edge in this area. Usually once I return to a G or H, SMS/MMS goes through with no problems... May have something to do with the Radio Issue, the alleged ota will fix...
On monday I got my G2 to replace my Samsung Vibrant (due to the Vibrant's GPS issues). I love the G2, but one thing is completely ruining the experience for me. At least two to three times a day my phone is rebooting on me or it will completely freeze where I have to pull the battery. It seems like my problem is kind of common. I was curious is anyone has found any way to fix the random reboots without actually getting a new handset? I just factory reset my phone hoping that it will be a little better and I will update this thread if it gets better. Is there anything else I can try?
One other thing I noticed is that when it randomly reboots it is only a soft reset and doesn't truly reboot. Sometimes after the soft reboot it will hide certain applications like they are not installed until I do a full power cycle reset. Once Angry Birds disappeared until I did a full power cycle and another time it acted like my dialer was deleted off of the phone and I couldn't even make calls until I power cycled. Every time after I power cycle everything shows up so it looks like the media scanning doesn't fully run or something?
I noticed it only does this to me when I have no service...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Well unfortunately I have no service at work. Also, on my way to work I have a small dead zone. It is just very annoying because it happens 2-3 times a day.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I have the same problem with signal loss (although my phone does not reboot, I just have to reboot to get signal back), only at home and on the way to work. I put my phone on 2G only at home (since signal sucks, not giving anything up) and on the ride (again, not using the phone for data so not giving anything up) and I don't have the signal loss problem at all.
Have you tried 2G only?
Throw your phone into 2 g. This should fix alot of reboot problems and signal drops. It fixed mine. I had the exact same problem after 27 hrs. Take it outta 2g if you know you'll be in a high speed network.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I'll try 2g over the weekend and see how it is. Thanks for the suggestion.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I heard to turn off the backup data and that gonna stop the reboot, I did it, and no more reboot for my g2
I sent both of my G2s back because of this issue. IMO "switch to 2G" is not really an acceptable fix... hopefully HTC issues an OTA for this soon.
Though I do not have this problem myself... Two things I have seen people try that helped:
Make sure you are using a new SIM card, and try a better quality Micro SD card than what comes with the G2. You never know...
Hope it helps.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Thanks to everyone who replied with suggestions. I seemed to have fixed my reboot problems by turning off the application backup feature. I am still using 3g data so far with no reboots or freezes in the past 24 hours. I have driven though my bad signal area that usually causes my issues at least 4 times so I am pretty sure it is fixed. If anyone else has turned off 3g data try turning it back on, but turn off application backup and let us know how it works for you.

So a few days ago, my Razr M decided to stop using 4g, and is now stuck using 4g. Even after returning to stock 4.4.2, this is still an issue. Any insight as to what's wrong with my phone?
Had this happen once I tried a bunch of stuff... I can't remember but I think I actually just let it die to 0% and let it charge back to 100% while off... But during that time I also pulled my SD card out put the data on my PC formatted it put data back on... I don't think the new Sim helped at all but it wouldn't hurt to try

Did you try the battery drain. Also turn the phone off, take the 4g simcard out and ensure no dust is in the slot (maybe blow it with a bit of compressed air).

I've had this happen after flashing some ROMs (MIUI and older CM versions). It's a ***** to fix, and honestly its mostly trial and error. I did manage to get it to work, but I can't remember the exact series of things I did. You can tell its working correctly when it shows 4G/LTE (not just LTE) and you can still make phone calls, and you can send/receive texts and MMS.
Before trying any of this though, it might just be a KitKat issue -- you will lose a huge amount of reception running the stock 4.4.2 OS. When I tried it I was never able to get 4G due to the poor signals I was getting with KitKat. I would strongly recommend reflashing to the the last Jelly Bean stock firmware (skip gpt.bin and tz.bin) and see if you still have the no 4G issue. I'm running stock JB (with the garbage apps frozen) after trying every ROM out there, because the signals I get are way stronger, and the battery life (might be due to better signals?) is amazing -- I can go 2-3 days without a charge.
In any case, if you still want to try it, I think these settings are the ones you want (what worked for me was actually TOGGLING the settings to something else, then back to the correct ones). Also, this was under JB, but I think its identical with KitKat:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Phone Info. Click the menu option and click on the Radio Bands. Change it to US Band. This will break everything.
Go back to the menu and Radio Bands. Change it back to Cellular.
Then scroll down and click on the Preferred Network Type. Change it to GSM/CDMA (Auto). At this point you should see the Location: showing actual info in the BID, SID, NID fields, and GSM will be "In Service", GSRM will be "Connected" and Network Type will probably be eHRPD (which is still 3G).
Click on the preferred network type again and change it to "LTE/CDMA/Evdo". It should change the GSRM to LTE. If not, power off, pull the SIM, power on. Wait for it to say SIM not found. Power back off, put in the SIM and power back on.
Go to your Settings, and under Wireless & networks click on More... and click Mobile Networks. Again, the fix was toggling, so if it says Global, change it to LTE/CDMA or if it says LTE/CDMA, change it to Global. It doesn't matter which one its set to (as long as its one of those 2 and you toggled it).
At this point, I had to let the phone sit for about 10-15 minutes. After I came back, it started switching automatically to 4G/LTE and you should be good to go.
If you can't MMS or text, go back to the Mobile Networks settings, click on Access Point Names, click the menu and reset to default. Power off and power back on.
Hope this helps... GL!
I wish I could say that helped... But it didn't... I'm not sure what this thing is doing, in LTE, it doesn't even detect a network.

Tried all of the suggestions in this thread and the CM11 and GPE threads in Android Dev section.

So this worked for me....kinda. It will keep my LTE when I switch back and forth, but only until I call someone. At which point it will stop auto-switching back and forth.
So, I got a new SIM, and things worked for a while, but when I tried to make a call, it said "Phone not authenticated". So I go back in, the guy says to dial *228, and 1 to activate. I do it, and the calling works, but I'm back to 3g. So I'm back in this boat again...while I get 4g in my Gnex, with the same Sim...

True... But see, the same SIM can get 4G in my Galaxy Nexus, which makes 0 sense. I might go get another SIM again, but I'll just deal with it for a while. It works if I do LTE only mode on my Razr. It's strange that the same SIM works perfect in my other phone.
I would factory reset or wait a few days. In a few days a new software update will be rolling out.
Probably won't use it. It'll lock my boot loader or unroot me, which I'd hate.

It will make you lose root but you can't lock your boot loader after its unlocked... Even taking an OTA. So just flash twrp and flash SuperSU zip and then you're good to go after a OTA

You're boot loader will not be relocked. . if the ota wasn't relocking the bl and doing just the opposite then you have nothing to worry about regarding that... As for unroot you're unlocked so all you'd have to do is flash SuperSU or use the root method again... If you're stock then rather the FDR just run it in safe mode long press power button till screen pop long press power off till screen pop select OK...if safe mode helps then you'll need to FDR...
