Dalvik or ART? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys which Runtime are u using on your Kitkat device currently...is it Dalvik or ART? (Dalvik is default)
While ART is still in development...did anyone try it on our Verizon Note 3 and feel any difference in Performance & Battery Life...
Edit: Actually our Kitkat firmware doesnt provide the option to change between Dalvik and ART...

As of now I do not have detailed specs for you but I can tell you that ART does have a slight performance/battery increase compared to Dalvik.
A problem with using ART though, is that if you are using any of the XpoSed modules then they will not work properly since the code is designed for Dalvik. I know he is currently waiting on the code to be released so that he can make this work with ART.
Here's a quote from another post about the battery life using ART
"It estimates that my battery (57%) can stay for 7.1 days on standby"

ART on Nexus S (Android 4.4 KitKat)

Hello!
I've installed our alpha build for Nexus S and installed Gapps. Than I tried the ART function instead... It worked..with Google services FCs.
So I believe that it could work as long as we flash compatible google apps?
What do you guys think?
I'd really like to see ART in action on my Nexus S
ART FC too
Im try and FC all GAPPS too... then reboot.
In dalvik all Ok
I've heard of ART. I understand it is suposto make apps quicker. Is there a sticky FAQ on ART VS DALVIC virtual machine?
You need to get odexed gapps to get ART working, here's one from a build for the N4:

Assuming the Nexus 4 and S both use the same gapp builds than I'd assume yes. If they use different builds of gapps normally, then someone would need to make an odexed build of them for the S. But I'm curious how it goes, turning on ART on mine would be nice, anything to eek out a little more speed would be awesome.
Use latest PA GApps
Whatsapp doesnt work with ART for me... Also it kind of screws up my system. I'll just stick to dalvic...

I am going to change the GAPPS to the Nexus 4 GAPPS found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34610569&postcount=1
I'll see if that makes a diff.
Really not digging the webview Chomium bug, hope someone comes up with a fix soon.

Firefox or another third party browser seems to work for the web, but google now will still be messed up... I am sure you installed correctly, but a clean install may help with ART?? You could try odexing, I liked how that worked with ART (minus the 15min initial boot time??) I don't like the gel / 4.4 laucher, I use Nova with no issues (not the 4.4 beta).. Devil kernel works well with this rom and has more available ram.. I did the full setup and restore of all my apps before switching to ART with no issues and no issues switching to ART after odexing..
If some one use openpdoide you cant use ART (mabye it will be fixed). I tried it an the whole system rebooted.....
AMAZING! I knew Android 4.4 is optimized for devices that only have 512 MB memory, but I thought that is just another Project Butter: won't be very obvious on low-end devices. As soon as I loaded CM 11, I found out I was wrong. It just bring my Nexus S back to life and I can't believe this is the successor of CM 10.2. Don't know how good it will be after switch to ART. Although I have a Nexus 4, I just feel happy that I don't need to throw this phone away.
I will try pa gapps .thx !
I am using [UNOFFICIAL][ROM][4.4][21112013] CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Nexus S with Devil Kernel on ART. It works ok, but device gets really SLOW from time to time. With that I mean it is unusable for more than 5min.
It might be the kernel, I flashed Euroskank CM11 now and won't flash any kernel to see whats going on.
I am usign THOSE GAPPS.
Battery life with 4.4 alpha 3 on my nexus s!

It seems like there is an issue with ART since april's nightlies
Best advice would be not to use it
If you still want to try, go to settings > developper options > select runtime > ART

yep - thats right, ART is still in development and not all apps/mods will work ATM, google is rumored to be releasing next iteration of Andorid (possibly 5.0) with ART as default which will be the game changer and the point that all devs will have to ensure their apks are ART compatible (or not and lose users), some devs are holding back as there are sure to be more changes before ART goes 'prime time' - one example of this is the infamous xposed framework by @rovo89

So if a app or game isn't ART compatible, it will crash and force close? No solution to fix it without reverting back to Dalvik?

That's write, although you could contact the Dev and request that they support ART in the future

[Q] CM12 - Can't switch to Dalvik runtime

Hi folks,
after upgrading to CM12, there is no option in the developer options for switching the runtime.
I would like to continue using the xposed framework. therefore i need to switch from art to dalvik.
With CM11 i am able to see the switch in the developer options.
Anybody else experiencing this?
Thanks
Android 5.x uses ART only, so there's no dalvik any more. It's always been known that it's not there and that Xposed no longer works
