I'm running CM 11 KitKat ART, there's a game which I play daily isn't compatible with ART so the game won't load?
Can someone help me please

yep - thats right, ART is still in development and not all apps/mods will work ATM, google is rumored to be releasing next iteration of Andorid (possibly 5.0) with ART as default which will be the game changer and the point that all devs will have to ensure their apks are ART compatible (or not and lose users), some devs are holding back as there are sure to be more changes before ART goes 'prime time' - one example of this is the infamous xposed framework by @rovo89

So if a app or game isn't ART compatible, it will crash and force close? No solution to fix it without reverting back to Dalvik?

Hello!
I've installed our alpha build for Nexus S and installed Gapps. Than I tried the ART function instead... It worked..with Google services FCs.
So I believe that it could work as long as we flash compatible google apps?
What do you guys think?
I'd really like to see ART in action on my Nexus S
ART FC too
Im try and FC all GAPPS too... then reboot.
In dalvik all Ok
I've heard of ART. I understand it is suposto make apps quicker. Is there a sticky FAQ on ART VS DALVIC virtual machine?
You need to get odexed gapps to get ART working, here's one from a build for the N4:

Assuming the Nexus 4 and S both use the same gapp builds than I'd assume yes. If they use different builds of gapps normally, then someone would need to make an odexed build of them for the S. But I'm curious how it goes, turning on ART on mine would be nice, anything to eek out a little more speed would be awesome.
Use latest PA GApps
Whatsapp doesnt work with ART for me... Also it kind of screws up my system. I'll just stick to dalvic...

ROM= [UNOFFICIAL][ROM][4.4][14112013] CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Nexus S
Gapps=[GAPPS][4.4/4.3.x] OFFICIAL 0-Day PA-GOOGLE APPS (All ROM's) [2013-11-14]
Launcher=Whatever came with the gapps aka not customDid nothing to the ROM no custom Kernel.
I am going to change the GAPPS to the Nexus 4 GAPPS found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34610569&postcount=1
I'll see if that makes a diff.
Really not digging the webview Chomium bug, hope someone comes up with a fix soon.

Firefox or another third party browser seems to work for the web, but google now will still be messed up... I am sure you installed correctly, but a clean install may help with ART?? You could try odexing, I liked how that worked with ART (minus the 15min initial boot time??) I don't like the gel / 4.4 laucher, I use Nova with no issues (not the 4.4 beta).. Devil kernel works well with this rom and has more available ram.. I did the full setup and restore of all my apps before switching to ART with no issues and no issues switching to ART after odexing..
If some one use openpdoide you cant use ART (mabye it will be fixed). I tried it an the whole system rebooted.....
AMAZING! I knew Android 4.4 is optimized for devices that only have 512 MB memory, but I thought that is just another Project Butter: won't be very obvious on low-end devices. As soon as I loaded CM 11, I found out I was wrong. It just bring my Nexus S back to life and I can't believe this is the successor of CM 10.2. Don't know how good it will be after switch to ART. Although I have a Nexus 4, I just feel happy that I don't need to throw this phone away.
I will try pa gapps .thx !
I am using [UNOFFICIAL][ROM][4.4][21112013] CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Nexus S with Devil Kernel on ART. It works ok, but device gets really SLOW from time to time. With that I mean it is unusable for more than 5min.
It might be the kernel, I flashed Euroskank CM11 now and won't flash any kernel to see whats going on.
I am usign THOSE GAPPS.
Battery life with 4.4 alpha 3 on my nexus s!

hey i just read a post on a well known blog that shows s5 has the art runtime in developer options, is there a way to get it working on s4 touchwiz roms 4.4.2?
No, because Samsung didn't enable ART since its an experimental feature for now.
BTW, questions should be posted in the Q&A section, not General.

No, they are only testing it and maybe they will add it in S5 :highfive:
i played a little with all the files that needs art work with, libart.so libart-compiler.so dex2oat coreart.jar and when you push this file in the right places the option to ebable art appear so i odexed my rom and tried to reboot in art, and got bootloop, i think the problem is in libart-compiler.so, because in touchwiz rom there are more framework than GE and if this extra framework arent in the manifest of libart-compiler.so the process to convert all rom in art will stop and get bootloop, we need someone that compile that file with TW framework

I think you are correct. But the framework should also be compatible to be compiled with art I guess.
Is there any progress?
BTW: Sorry for commenting on a old post
I noticed today that when i use Xposed Framework ART will not work. I can't see why but always when i choose "ART" it will restart and after restart it's still using dalvik. Then i uninstalled xposed framework and tried ART and it worked. It seems to be only with LG G3. Anybody else tried same?
Xposed doesn't work with art right now. That's why.
*slow clap*
...sorry couldn't resist. It's a well known fact that Xposed doesn't work with ART yet.
Thanks. I wasn't aware of this. Was assuming I had been on ART. Just checked and yep, still on dalvik.

I didn't know this either before this and i thinked that there is someone else for sure who dont know this. That's why i created this topic.
Just to let you all know, the developer of Xposed has said he is committed to making it work for ART but as of yet has not released a timescale, so we might be waiting a long time (possibly even after the release of ANDROID L - in which case we will all be without Xposed until such time it does work with ART, as Android L is ART only).
What Lenny said!^ The xposed creator basicly said he wont release xposed for ART until it is 100% stable (When Android L is released). He has got it working on Art partially in a few experimental builds. But he aint releasing anything!

Is there anything else which is buggy with ART?
PS: I see that Boom Beach doesn't start as well. Going back to Dalvik until I know more about ART

AFAIK WhatsApp won't update if you have ART enabled. At least on CM ROMs. There is a workaround though which is to revert to Dalvik, install the update and switch back to ART. S Health, however, just does not work which is a real shame. I can't wait for Lollipop

I read somewhere on XDA that S-Health does work with ART if you uninstall the S-Health updates through the Application Manager. I haven't tried it myself though, so I don't know if this is actually the case but I thought I'd mention it.

HI ,
just did an Play store app update , re "Pocket " Support for Lollipop ( thus Art compatible ? )
and bug fixes ,it states in update . Tested and seems to be working fine on ART .
I suggest try, Pocket again and see if its working ... now ,(after this update ? )
good luck
The Galaxy S5 with the official lollipop update (running ART) has s-heath on it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7LFgUgqI1E look near the 53 second mark).
So I'm assuming that Sammy will have s-health fixed and working with ART when we get Lollipop.

Thanks man. Did that and no issues there now. I'm getting FC when I try to share via Pocket now... I do believe it may ART related. Tried both the Internet and Talon app.
Hi folks,
after upgrading to CM12, there is no option in the developer options for switching the runtime.
I would like to continue using the xposed framework. therefore i need to switch from art to dalvik.
With CM11 i am able to see the switch in the developer options.
Anybody else experiencing this?
Thanks
Android 5.x uses ART only, so there's no dalvik any more. It's always been known that it's not there and that Xposed no longer works
