[Q] Suggestions for a ROM - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i'm fairly new to android, i mean, i know how to do quite a bit of stuff with adb and everything now and now that i have an unlocked bootloader i was wondering what would be good for a custom recovery, something fairly easy and would any roms be any better than stock + xposed or should i just stick with that?
i was thinking about flashing twrp but they dont have a list for the motorola m

Are you on 4.4 right now? If you are, there are only 2 ROMs out right now that will work on the new boot loader, a test build of CM11 by DHacker and a test build of Pac.

4.3 with safestrap

Whats up guys. Just tried to install Goldeneye 9.0 which is 4.3 but am just getting a blank screen I ran 8.0 no problem but was thinking maybe it wasn't booting because its not possible due to the kernel mis match with the stock rom.
as far as i know, Safestrap doesnt work with 4.3 yet., might wanna wait it out before you messed up your phone.
Yeah, don't think it works with SS yet. The wait is killing me lol that 4.3 MJ5 looks good

[Q] Help please i want to install pac rom so bad

Hello guys I have a NB1 bootloader S4 Running AT&T firmware. The model number is SGH-i337 I am rooted and i have safestrap installed. I still have the stock recovery built into the phone which i can still get into with any method. My question is that I want to install pac rom that runs android 4.4.2 kitkat firmware. Is it possible? I really want this rom bad and anyone who helps me would be greatly appreciated. Right now I am running carHD rom. My phone still works like brand new. I am a big fan of the pac rom and i just got the s4 2 months ago, am i too late to install it?
Peace, Jon
We cannot install any firmware that isn't compatible with our kernel. That means only touchwiz based ones will work.

Only when the bootloader gets unlocked, and it won't be anytime soon.

Lollipop?

I know ETA's are a big no no here but cm12 - unofficial was released for the 9505 and I wanted to know whether how long u guys felt it'd take for our i337 to get it

CM is a unified build ROM and we can run I9505 ROMs anyways. Just if you have Safestrap you can't run AOSP ROMs because our bootloader is locked and theirs isn't.

CM does not make Safestrap versions. The only hope is if our bootloader gets unlocked or exploited, which is being worked on but isn't guaranteed.

What about a GPE rom? I know we have some 4.4.4 ones but I'm not sure if we only have those because of our kernel and idk if a lollipop one will work with our kernel. I guess we will have to just play the waiting game and hope for the best lol

There's no guarantee it will work on the kernel even when we get the lollipop GPe release. You'll have to hope with the rest of us

Battery Drain galaxy s4 att

Ever since I got the KitKat 4.4.4 update my battery has been draining, and I'm not going to get a new battery because I've only had this phone for a short time[emoji27]
Give it a few days, it should improve. If not, you may want to root and install the Greenify app from the Play Store.

I'll try it, and I'm also going to get cm 12 on it since it's taking Samsung a long time to update it

If you have the at&t sgh-i337 and it's on Android 4.4.4, then you won't be able to install cm 12 due to the locked bootloader. You're only able to boot TW based roms from Safe Strap.
No your right and wrong because twrp recovery already has Loki built into it..

Go to twrps website and click recovery for jflteatt and look at device specific issues and it clearly states that "our images are already modified with Loki"

LOKI will only work on the MDL firmware running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You're on 4.4.4 so LOKI won't work. Go ahead and try, it will fail.
Oh well I'll just be stuck like this but I'll try to find a way how to make it work

So your saying that Odin will be able to flash cm12 without Loki? And dose Loki work on 4.4.4??

Why?? If wwjoshdew made a video on how to root and install a custom recovery on all Qualcomm variants for example jflteatt he didn't say anything about KitKat wouldn't work with Loki...

Trust us dude, LOKI won't work on Android 4.4.4 on the sgh-i337. It was a bootloader bypass that was patched when the mk2 firmware OTA update came out. If you try flashing a custom recovery you risk bricking your phone since the bootloader is locked. The only recovery you can use is Safe Strap.
If you want CyanogenMOD or any other roms of the alike such as AOSP based roms, you will need a at&t Galaxy S3 or an international S4 or if I remember right a sprint or t-mobile S4, (don't quote me on though) they have unlocked bootloaders as far as I know.

Kept mine stock for a few days, really enjoyed the phone in that state, but this is a nexus device, if you're not going to root it you'll miss out on a lot of mods and tweaks.
For me I hate the light theme that comes with the device, same on my previous devices.
Also some of the apps I use require root access, titanium, ad away, custom kernels, to name but a few.
Plus the custom ROMs available are really well made and I'd be missing out if I didn't try any of them..
Flexibility is gained via rooting, it gives you the choices android should offer out the box.
At least that's my opinion anyway.
I rooted because nexus.
I just can't help myself. The first thing I do is unlock the bootloader of a phone if I can. Then root it and flash stuff. Need to pass the time somehow...
Haven't rooted yet. Haven't found a good enough reason to. First phone I haven't rooted.

Um layers. That's a pretty good reason. And the crazy amount of mods. And if stock is you're thing cataclysm flashes right over stock and gives you a boat load of options. Allowing you to keep the stock feel and tweak minimal things that make life easier for you.

Here you have it.
This will allow twrp and regular root. Non of that systemless root over here.
I take no responsibility should this cause you're device to explode, become unusable(bricked), speed up global warming, or shoot flames at you etc. etc.

You only need custom recovery for flashing a custom ROM. Most custom roms come pre-rooted with systemless root. So you should only need to flash the ROM. Of course it all depends on which ROM you flash. So just make sure you check if it's rooted or not. Most are rooted though.

Yes. Just back up stock ROM first. You still need a modified boot.img to boot stock after installing twrp. So I recommend flashing a modified boot.img(in bootloader using fastboot)for twrp to work. Then take back up. Then flash what ever ROM you want.
