[MOD][4.4.2-Touchscreen-Issue-Fix] - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

While updating and using the latest Android OS from Nvidia for the Tegra-Note, I noticed some issues with the touchscreen.
Browsing the forum I noticed other users had issues with this too
So I have released a fix for this issue
Issues fixed:
Touchscreen unresponsive
Single click -> double clicks
Touching the screen in one area while, touchscreen thinks youre touching in another area
Untested:
Using stylus and touching from edge of screen to centre loses touch focus from stylus
Requirements:
Unlocked bootloader
TWRP Recovery
Installation:
Download touchscreen fix from the link below
Reboot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery" or Volume up and power button
Locate zip file and select install or "adb sideload locatetotouchscreenfixzip"
Download Link: http://d-h.st/PkX

4.2.2 or 4.4.2?
Hi Shaky, you said the latest version of Android but your title says "4.2.2" . Do you mean 4.4.2?
Like everyone else I have these pesky touchscreen issues and I am hoping you mean 4.4.2 because that's what I got.

Actually, I'm not too sure since I don't really use GPS on my tablet since I always have my mobile handy but I did give it a try this morning and I couldn't lock on to any satellites. Tegra Note 7 found 3 satellites and locked on to none. Granted I was indoors at time but comparing to my Galaxy S4, I found 21 satellites and fixed on to 7 of them. I used GPS Status to get this information. I also used Faster GPS to assign an NTP server but it didn't do much.
Hopefully that's helpful, maybe people who have tested this extensively will chime in soon to point you in the right direction.

thanks! this has really been bugging me lately

Post your feedbacks guys ! Does this works 100% if we are in plam rejection mode and we slide our finger from left or right side of the screen does it reads it as stylus ?

what exactly does this "fix" do? It would be nice if there was a description of the actual functionality and how its achieved. Right now, i have no idea if this is going to help me with my absolutely horrible palm rejection, and poor stylus performance issues, or help people who are having ghost clicks, or if its going to help the end swipe people, or the people who randomly have no touch responsiveness. Looking at the archive, it looks like you're writing new firmware, is this just simply the firmware from 4.2.2? or did you modify it in some way to fix the problems that are current. A little transparency would be awesome here, im not sure whether to try and contact evga, or just throw this piece of crap against the wall and cut my losses.
*edit* if i seem abrasive, im really sorry. The camels back broke tonight, and im literally seething. I expected better from nvidia. Either I can't believe there are either so many stupid people in the world, or Im the idiot who did all my updates right out of the box, and don't know what im missing. If it can be better than this, i want THAT experience.

Op updated. Take your complaints to EVGA, or nvidia, not me. I have simply provided a fix for touchscreen issues.

Shaky, as i said, not directed at you. I'm just frustrated. I'm directing them directly at the forum where other people who had my frustration may have found a solution. I mean, its a forum right? Your fix unfortunately has not helped in my case, perhaps I have bad hardware. Having unlocked to try your fix im sure nvidia and evga are likely out of the question, but I'm resigned to just using this as a 7" e reader.
Thanks for replying back to the thread anyway.

I've had a couple of days or so to test this now. First off, this mod doesn't seem to be a 100% fix yet. But, I have to say that the responsiveness of the touchscreen is improved when it DOES work.
The problem that still occurs the touchscreen becomes unresponsive for some seconds still, particularly if I come from a resource taxing app (e.g. a game or something), I close the screen and open it again. The screen becomes unresponsive when I key in the PIN, for example, I'd key '1', it won't respond, so I'd key '1' again, still nothing so I repeat then finally the touchscreen responds by keying in a million '1's' lol. So usually, I have to type my PIN really slowly to give the touchscreen time to detect my presses. Usually, I'd have to reboot to get proper touchscreen responsiveness.
I still have a problem with the stylus where it becomes unresponsive with the stylus only or palm rejection mode on. If I have my palm pressed somewhere across the edge, sometimes, the stylus stops writing.
With that said, there has been improvements in responsiveness with this mod but that's when it DOES work. Meaning, flinging between screens, touch typing, and the stylus all works better when it works. Does that make sense? LOL.
I really hope NVidia and EVGA get's on this soon.

Thanks for the feedback, can you provide a log whenever that happens? enable usb debugging and in terminal (cmd) "adb shell logcat > logcat.txt" without the quotes. I think I know why it doesnt work 100%, but require logs to confirm.

Btw you guys are aware, settings -> directstylus -> set timer to activate finger touch after pen use -> disable touch only during pen use or select 3 seconds
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Hey, I haven't had time yet. I've been spending too much time away from home these days with work and all so when problem happens, I am without the ability to get a logcat file. I'll get you a log as soon as time permits.
BTW, just two days ago, I had a related problem occur and instead of rebooting what I did was just play around with the device so I can give you a better description of what happens. I say "related" because I think last time I described what seemed like lag after touch presses and problems with the palm rejection.
Scenario:
1. I was plugged in charging.
2. Unfortunately, I cannot recall what I was doing or what app I ran before the touch screen problem occurred.
3. I brought up the App drawer and when I tried to swipe left to get to the next screen of apps, it automatically just swiped back to the previous screen.
4. I managed to open Google Now where my keyboard popped up automatically, characters started popping up on the text box as if my keys were being pressed.
5. I rebooted and didn't bother to wait to see if the problem would fix itself.
6. Things that might be important: I use Nova Launcher Prime and Swift Key.
Like I said, if I can somehow get lucky to have the problem happen just when I am at a PC, I'll send the logcat file ASAP.
Thanks for the effort, Shaky.

(in the voice of Kyle's mom) Wha-wha-what?! Someone is doing a custom ROM for this thing?
It's about time, I can't wait! The only thing that has irritated me about this tablet is that there is almost no development interest in it, which is weird since it's both unlocked and inexpensive. Huge thanks, and I can't wait to see the TN7's first custom rom!

My Wizard is randomly going NUTS - Help needed!!!

Hey all, I don't know what's causing this but since yesterday my Wizard (K-JAM) has been going crazy.
I just plugged it into my USB port a min ago to charge it (not sync) and a whole random bunch of apps opened, including IE where 'hhhhhhhhh' and 'eeeeee' were repeatedly put into the IE search box, as if the buttons were stuck (this'd happen if the keyboard was open or not)
SMS would open too, the phone panel would open and the phone would appear to be dialing random things. Including successfully dialing (by itself) "333".
The hard buttons and keyboard seem to become disabled when this happens too and will randomly start working again.
I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1 TNT Official. Has anyone else experienced this kind of stuff?
This is a real mystery and driving me nuts. Is my phone possessed?! I may try flashing with a different ROM later, although TNT *has* been working ok for the few days I've had it on here.
Ok this is really odd. I've found that when this happens and it calms down a bit (keyboard/buttons work again), I open Word Mobile and try and type.. the letters 'h' and 'e' don't work (the 2 letters that appear randomly when the phone goes crazy). I have no idea why as I can use these letters just fine when the phone's acting normal.
Right now I have Word Mobile open and the phone's typing "yyyyyyyyyyyyyy" by itself. Buttons/keyboard have stopped working but touchscreen is fine.
Gawd. :S
Edit: Wish I knew WTF was causing this. It continues even after a soft reset. This time I've rebooted it, it originally messed about but is now back to normal.
Ok, it now seems I can (temp.?) fix the hardware buttons on the front of the Wizard doing nothing by opening the keyboard and hitting something like the windows key. Then all the front buttons work again.
I notice when the buttons are disabled often hitting the middle button (inside the up/down/left/right) brings up "Align Screen" for who knows what reason.
How annoying. I'm gonna flash another ROM and see if the problems go away. (currently using latest TNT Official)
EDIT: Still some buttons (q, e, i, g, h) are no longer working. What on earth has happened here?
Right, just flashed it back down to T-Mobile 2.26 and the randomness problems seem to have gone away [EDIT: No they haven't] but I still have completly lost the use of q, e, i, g and h. I have no idea how this has happened. Last night I had a low battery (first time) and the phone started going nuts at this point, when it was under 10% charge left.
Since then it's been very random. But I charged it up overnight and the problem hasn't gone away. Some of the random stuff it was doing was typing 'hhhhh' and 'eeeeee' non-stop (2 of the buttons that no longer work) which makes me think a chipset has screwed up in some way. Keyboard backlight is on constantly. It's the sorta thing I'd expect if I dropped it in a sink of water but the phone hasn't been under any sort of shock/pressure/water/whatever since I got it last week!
I'm beyond frustrated. To top it all the MiniSD card I ordered days ago finally arrived today and it's now completly useless.
Dunno what I'm gonna do now. :S
Final Edit: Ok so it looks like it could be something up with the Wizard itself, could anyone confirm?
- The button in the centre of the joypad either 1. Acts as 'Start' or opens 'Align Screen', this is completly random. (sometimes changes on opening/closing the keyboard???)
- Either the joypad works and the Answer/Reject buttons don't or vice versa - this too is completly random.
- The Left / Right softkeys on the KEYBOARD (top left, top right) work randomly. If they are working the keyboard doesn't work, and again VICE VERSA.
- The LEDs on the call reject button / keyboard are on constantly. This only changes for a time if i mash the keyboard.
- The 5 letters mentioned previously don't work unless I mash the keyboard, in which case the Wizard will sometimes take over typing for itself and then I'm able to use the keys afterwards again. (yeah, I understand this makes absolutely no sense!)
- The Wizard will completly spontaniously start opening random stuff and typing as if keys are jammed.
I've flashed to Tmob 2.26, 3.08, WM6.1 (TNT) & WM6.1 (another cook) and have exactly the same problem. This all points towards broken hardware. I should have guessed with the amount of dents, scratches and a broken button that this poor Wizard has been through the mill a few times! Shame it had to use me as its death bed!
If anyone can recommend anything to what it might be and what I could do to fix it then please let me know.
Thanks!
Wow! You're not much for letting other people get a word in edge-wise, are ya?
First thing:
The button in the centre of the joypad either 1. Acts as 'Start' or opens 'Align Screen', this is completly random. (sometimes changes on opening/closing the keyboard???)

Make sure you don't have Smartskey installed (look in Windows\Startup and in Program Files). If you do, uninstall it, it's been corrupted somehow.
Otherwise:
Ok, I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but I think it's just the age of these phones. They get old, they get dirty. Don't believe me? Take off your battery cover and look at the grime that's gathered at the edges. Imagine what that does to your buttons!
You need to open the case, disassemble the keyboard section (and the faceplate too, for good measure), and thoroughly clean the contacts, the buttons, etc. The further you disassemble, the cleaner you will get it. See this thread for a manual on disassembly/reassembly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378764
Use good quality sterile cotton swabs (no dollar store crap for this), and pure (not dyed) isopropyl alcohol. Dab the swab in alcohol, and gently scrub every inch of the contacts, the circuit board faces, and the buttons.
When that's done, wait for it to dry...and I mean as dry as a mummy fart. DRY. Inspect everything carefully, looking for loose cotton threads, debris, and most important, streaks. Streaks mean you just smeared the gunk around without picking it up. If you find cotton or debris, use canned air to remove it. DO NOT USE TWEEZERS OR OTHER METAL IMPLEMENTS TO DO THIS. If you find streaks, go back and clean it again.
Once it is both dry and clean, reassemble it and test it. You should be good to go unless there's something broken.
If neither of these things works, I would strongly urge you to consider committing a violent act on the individual who sold you the phone... you probably won't get your money back, but it might make you feel better.
Cheers, the thing has me at my wits end. Keep having to remind myself it's only a phone
Yeah it's def not Smartskey or a soft problem as I've flashed it a whole bunch of times this afternoon.
From mashing the keyboard and causing it to do different things it looks to be a hardware problem (or full of junk like you say). I grabbed the pdf manual to look through but don't feel too comfortable taking the thing apart just yet.
I just slapped it about a bit as best I could out of frustration and unbelivably it seems to have come back to it's former glory. I'm not gonna get my hopes up and expect it to stay like this though.
Yeah it was an ex-company phone from a company upgrading their stock so no refunds / replacements. I guess if the worst comes to the worst it'll go on ebay as faulty and I'll be without a little gadget I really craved! Back to my £10 Sagem for the time being.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi mate, your problem sounds similar to mine. Especially about the lights (though my green light is broken and only shows occasionally - came like that). You'll probably find that when it's in that state the problems arise.
Mine screwed up again after about an hour of my last post and the keyboard barely works at all now. Mashing it / hitting it / swearing at it isn't doing any good. I've virtually given up.
I'm not sure about a CID re-lock btw, but would Vodafone bother check to see if it was CID locked or not on return?
But hey, it sounds like a hardware malfunction. Good luck with yours & keep us updated if you find any kind of resolution !

I do hope to get another one in the near future though. There's enough fun to be had to warrant another purchase soon I think.

Display touching problem of Atrix

In order to be more focusing on this display problem of Atrix, I started this new post. And I hope every user who encounters this problem can leave a reply here.
Summary of the problem:
Wherever you touch on the screen, if you touch on the exact same spot for more than around 20 seconds, the touching signal will be lost. You have to retouch onto the screen to have the response back. You can identify the problem through some apps called "multitouch test" as they can visualize your touch but this problem is not related to multitouch.
On daily use, this is not a problem because you can hardly keep touching on the same position for more than 20 seconds. However, it is very annoying while you are playing games with atrix. For example, minisquadron, gun bros and Guerrilla Bob. These games require you keep touching the same position so as to "FIRE" a gun. You will notice your gun stop firing after sometime even though you are still holding the fire button.
For fixing the problem, I have sent a few emails to motorola and made a call with motorola. Finally I just received an aceptable reply:
Dear Consumer
Thanks for reaching out to Motorola for help. We could not immediately answer your question, so we are sending it on to our expert team for help. Please be patient while our experts evaluate your question. They will respond to you soon.

so this thread is just for people that have the bug to post? if so then I have it with my Bell atrix
This explains a problem I'm been having when browsing. I always use landscape mode and when reading lengthy pages apparently i'm exceeding 20 seconds at which point the touch screen loses my touch and i'm unable to scroll until I remove my finger for a few seconds and re-apply it.
I've confirmed that use case and your 'multi-touch test' app as well. I'm currently using OS version 1.57.
My Atrix ATT also has this problem. I am not sure if this is an issue. Many people report the same. MAD!!!
+1 here. Hope it's only a driver issue and can be corrected with an update.

I BELIEVE this is only a matter of firmware. It can be fixed by update but the first thing is to make MOTOROLA realize the problem and treat the problem seriously.

agree, this bug was made by them intentionally, its normalize your screen every 20-30 secs to prevents error touch like droplets water...lame implementation!!!
The problem now is to make MOTOROLA realize how serious is this problem and take immediate actions!!!!I ady posted few discussion on moto forum.

Gosh, I know this is unrelated, but when I scroll on this phone, it ALWAYS clicks on something I don't want it to (for example, the settings menu).
It really pisses me off.
YES YES YES!! THIS IS ALL TRUE!!! Although I feel like it just looses all response input at random. Maybe it is timed. Whatever it is, it's making my games almost unplayable (spider-man in particular).
That and the frikin touch screen accuracy sucks donkey balls. I CLEARLY tap a link and it selects another random link on the screen. Also, typing sucks (not nearly up to par as the iPhones) due to the crappy accuracy.
Unfortunately Moto announced today that Atrix/Xoom sales have been very crappy. This makes it sound like we're never getting another update due to low revenue.
When will these stupid companies learn that they'll do better if they just didn't touch the damn OS? They'll never make Android their own so they should be putting that effort into the hardware.
here is that information? about the probleme I have this probleme too :S
just lodge the complain using the online support chat.hope they will get it fix soon
i dont want to test to see if I have this problem (cant handle much more disappointment).
However I will say .. I had my Atrix for 2 days now. The third app i downloaded was Draw(er), just a simple free touch sketching program. Drew some things, then decided to test the touch screen.
DO/DOES YOUR PHONE(s) DO THIS ALSO:
{

}
I was not able to draw in that far left/far right area of the screen (with phone held in portrait mode). I guess its not a big deal in normal usage, but that bugs me. Some apps/games have controls in that area that one would need to grab. On Atrix it would be impossible to do so accurately, if at all.
Thankfully I'm still within my 30 day return period. 95% chance this thing is going back before the time is up. IF only to help remind Motorola YOU CANNOT TAKE AN OPEN-SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM, LOCK IT DOWN, AND CALL IT YOUR OWN. (I'm soured by Motorola's locked bootloader, as I've come from a long/enjoyable history of HTC phones running WinMo)
I can draw at the edge??
here is a video of the glitch. sorry it takes a while this time for it to recognize. http://www.youtube.com/user/Graemegb1?feature=mhum#p/u/7/nce519w3Lak
Is this problem with all the atixs like 100% of them or is it random models that get it?
it's on all the atrix.

It takes much shorter time to recognize the problem it touching without moving.

IKWEAR IK8 MTK6577 Smart Phone Watch 1.54 Inch Android 4.0

This IK8 Watch Phone looks a lot like a ZGPAX or EC-309, but the camera points across the band instead of from the front and I think it has a faster processor.

I haven't seen any other mention of it here on XDA.
Does anyone know if it is a rebrand of something else that I'm missing here?
It's fast. I've been able to use Google Hangouts on it, even with video. Zello works with no problems and even sounds good. I'm going to get a SIM for it and see how well the phone works.
Biggest drawbacks are lack of support for Google Voice and Voice Search. I've been able to workaround most of the other issues. This appears to be a common issue for this type of phone, and it's a big disappointment here. I'd love to find a way to get those messages. Has anyone solved this?
I got mine at http://www.geekbuying.com/item/IK8-...4-0-512MB-RAM-4G-ROM-5MP-GPS-WIFI-325392.html but you'll likely find a place that ships more quickly than Geekbuying.
Thanks!

Thanks for the small review! Runkeeper or other runner's app work on it?

I own a ZGPAX s5 and I see this watch on ebay as well.
For the processor they are the same :MTK6577 1GHz Dual Core
Both IK8 and s5 actually run the same system as well (android 4.0.4)
They look different just because of different default launchers.
I just root mine and use Launcher 8 instead.
The real difference should be the position of the camera.
Both camera are 2MP and 5MP interpolated.
s5 is better for selfies and Skype while IK8 is better for taking photo shots.
Both are 2G as well.
They even share the same battery!!! ZGPAX s5 got 500mAH and 700mAH and IK8 should be 700mAH
You can take a look of this
http://www.ikwear.com/wangzhanjianshe/1.html
It should be a rebrand product.
The best solution is to mix the two products' camera into one LOL
Then I can selfie and take normal shot!!!
Cheers!

Got a couple of quick questions if you don't mind. I find some interest in this smartwatch
1 How do you like this smartwatch now?
2 I noticed on a youtube video that this smartwatch seems to have a sort of hidden menu button and back button located at the bottom of display. Am I correct?
Any thing else you would like to comment on would be appreciated.
Thanks

1. It is stand-alone watch phone, android v4.04 system, high definition touch screen, high resolution camera, you can use it smoothly and freely like a smartphone.
2. There is menu button and back button on the side of the watch, not at the bottom of display. And you can touch the screen to get what you want...

I've been using the IK8 for a few days now, and I discovered that there is definitely a menu- and back-button located directly underneath the display. In fact, they often get in the way while trying to touch lower areas of the screen .
Is this $120 the same one on AliExpress?
it gives notifications when connected to a phone?
It says 700mah battery. .. many days use do you get from it?
I got mine from Aliexpress It's super fast for me just two days to arrive to Hong Kong! I ordered another one earlier before from Chinavasion to Scotland and it takes me four days.

Looks like the same device to me. Just be cautious since this seller has only received feedback once. I'm not sure if this deal is legit, especially since the price is incredibly low. The IK8 usually sells for about $135 - $145.
Since it's a standalone Android device, you don't need any additional phone running a companion app in order to receive notifications. Just insert your SIM card (regular SIM) and you're ready to go. If you'd like to pair the IK8 to your smartphone and receive notifications over Bluetooth, maybe it is possible to install the Osmart app which is originally developed for the Omate Truesmart. I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth giving it a try. XDA user 'KOAO' already had some success using this app with his ZGPAX S5, which is not that different from the IK8;
KOAO said:
I am successfully able to receive notifications from Emails, and texts. i haven't tried to reject a call yet. However, i used the Osmart Companion app from the omate truesmart. You download the companion app to you watch by loading the Ostore app on your watch(i might ....might link the APK file i extracted from the Truesmart OS)Then you go to the post at the bottom, join the group and then download the master app to your Andriod based smartphone. Then you pair them up and test. If successful, WIN if not then try again.

The original battery supplied with the IK8 is 500mAh in contrary to what is promised on most websites/shops, it's exactly the same type of battery as used in the ZGPAX S5, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable since the plastic 'mounting clips' look a bit different. With WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS turned off and the screen set at the lowest brightness I get about 7 - 8 hours of battery life. But I haven't been using the device a lot yet, so I think battery life will probably increase.
I ordered my IK8 from Aurabuy and received it within 1,5 week (to the Netherlands with SingPost).
Edit: I came across several 'relabeled' versions of this watch lately. They are all exactly the same, but simply indicate different brand-names. For as far as I know, the IK8 Smartwatch is originally known as the TCW-006 and is being manufactured by Tecomax Electronics. This also explains the build-number visible in Android; TECO_V2.0_20140420.
haven't posted in xda for a while..let alone in the smartwatch section...but here we go. was in hong kong for a conference and decided to drop by the it shop. came across a host of smartwatches and just for fun picked up the ik8 for $90. haggled it down to $80 and figured i'd ditch it sooner or later. didn't play around with it until like 5 days later after i got back to melbourne. lo and behold, was actually quite surprised and impressed with it. my 2 cents worth:
display/interface
- not bad, quite responsive though i replaced the screen protector with a matte (anti-glare) one
- the small keyboard takes some getting used to but once you've used it you'll get around the limitations. i still make the occassional mistake but that's only when i'm using playstore
hardware
- camera is quite good though i have no plans of using it as i have my note 2
- speaker is surprisingly loud for such a small device
- one con i have is the lack of a 3.5mm jack. the built-in micro usb (for data transfer and charging) is also the plug for the earphones which comes with the watch. thus you can't really plug your own set of earphones...unless of course you use bluetooth
- quite light, watch strap is quite sturdy
- took in my 32gb microsd with no problem. pretty easy and straightforward in mounting the card
- same with the sim, but no plans on using the phone function
- don't think its "water proof" as some smart watches that claim to be (e.g. omate). but i'm not complaining.
internals
- i installed adw launcher which spiced up the homescreen (better than the default launcher). no hangs or whatever
- installed a bunch of widgets, just have to be careful as some are obviously built for larger screens. example, clokr (time widget) tends to not fit due to the length
- installed button savior to avoid using the hardware buttons. no need for root as i only need home, back and power off
- mx player works well, can actually watch a movie on it. no plans though as i have my note 2
- not planning on using this for music but poweramp works well on it. though there is sometimes a tendency for some icon labels to overlap given the small screen
gps
- i had to put a separate review on gps as i'm quite impressed with it
- installed navigon, apk had no problems loading. through wifi, the additional data and maps were installed
- also installed gps tester as well as other apps for cycling
verdict: gps signal takes around 1-2 minutes to get a good fix. the watch is able to lock on 4 satellites. accuracy is quite good but tends to be a little off when it's cloudy. the gps is not as spiffy as the one in my note but i'm not complaining. for a device this small, i was quite impressed how good the gps works
- strapped on the watch on my bike, used bikemate app. speed was quite accurate as well as keeping it locked on the satellites. didn't lose a signal as i cycled away
- had no issues with navigon. plotted home and the watch took me back to my house with no problems
haven't really tried out the full extent of the battery but without using wifi and gps, i was able to use it for 3 days before having the charge. with gps, battery went down to like 50% after riding for an hour or so. not bad in my opinion. overall, quite happy with it and i've now removed the speedo on my bike. no more wires and no more replacing batteries. this watch has now taken over the speed indicator duties for my cycling.
cheers
I got me one of these too, ordered from a Dutch guy who'd better pay back the import taxes caused by him drop-shipping it while pretending he had it in stock, or he'll be getting some negative publicity. Having to wait 3 weeks was bad enough.
I already had a ZGPAX S5 which I damaged, which is why I got this as a replacement. This is almost exactly the same hardware, as evidenced by the ability to restore a complete TWRP backup from the IK8 on my S5 with everything functional except the cell phone system. The IK8 is definitely the better of these two watch phones though: better build quality, no buzzing during calls, better cell signal reception, better clock & launcher system, no dead zone on the touchscreen. Definitely not waterproof with the gaping hole of the microUSB port, but it looks not as vulnerable to a few raindrops as the S5, whose screen doesn't even seem to be glued tight.
For the rest I concur with Robson, very good loudspeaker, the GPS is indeed impressively good and seems better than on the S5, at the condition that one does the usual dance of enabling EPO etc.
Can't login to Google PlayStore
The problem is that the teeny tiny keyboard is just too hard to navigate and when I try to switch the keyboard from alpha to numeric I get an "Android Framework has stopped" error message and the Google setup/sign-in app crashes and reloads.. Arrrggghh..
I tried installing two different Bluetooth keyboards to get around this problem but when you link the keyboards and go into the settings it will say "Use as input device" great, but when you go into "Languages and Input" to set the default to the Bluetooth keyboard the Bluetooth keyboard is NOT shown as an option just the default AOSP keyboard.. Can one of you guys help?? You know what a PIA it is to return anything to China so I just may be stuck with this which sucks because I can't use any of my Google apps (e.g. Gmail) which is why I bought this thing in the first place!
Any and all replies are appreciated!

I have tried to get Bluetooth keyboards and mice to work with two different phones that use this same chipset and Android version. My conclusion is that it is impossible. The devices pair, but the phone does not react to them. It looks like a fundamental bug in this Android release. If anyone has more success, I would certainly want to hear about it.
Your best option would be to install a half-size keyboard like Slidy Press, that has much bigger keys. Of course, installing the official version would require logging into the Play store first Your only option is to download the APK and install it from the file manager. I have made a customized version of Slidy Press available for download. I would post the link here, but for some reason the forum forbids this, so you will have to Google for this exact phrase between quotes: "I recommend installing Slidy Press" and you'll find the download link.

So, regardless of the keyboard you're using, it always crashes when you touch the lower left key? That is extremely weird. Do you also get strange things when you touch that location without keyboard? Maybe your screen is defective and you'll have to send it back anyhow…
i concur with lex, i've never had this problem despite installing multiple apps on the watch. in your posts you mentioned that the error message first came up when you tried switching from alpha to numeric. and again the message comes up when you touched a key in the lower left. coincidentally, both areas you touched are on the lower left portion of the screen. there might be something wrong with your device/screen. unless of course another app is somehow causing this issue? though somewhat related, i once installed usb toggle in my note 2. though rooted, it seems that my note didn't like the app and frequently crashed. i had to fix it up it to the point of going to the bootloader to wipe out the cache. in any case, uninstalled it and now my note functions well. the same could be for your watch. again, unless of course there's something wrong with your screen/device...in which case you should have the watch replaced.
at first in setting up my wifi connection, playstore id/password, etc..it was quite a burden. though the keyboard is small, you'll eventually get the hang of it. i still get the occassional mistake of pressing the wrong letter. but i rarely do this anymore since the watch has been set up to what i need it to do (which is mostly for gps).
the one thing i'm looking around for is trying to either deactivate or change the watch face. i noticed that this can be done for the sony smartwatch...i'm still trying to find a way for the ik8. no luck at the moment though...

IK8 Review
I wrote a review about the IK8 (I think I should be allowed to post links by now). Because I already had a ZGPAX S5 and the IK8 is very similar, the review mostly focuses on the differences between the two. The general conclusion however is that the IK8 is noticeably better in most aspects.
The review also contains a list of tweaks and hacks, and custom versions of the clock screensaver and launcher. Enjoy!

hey lex
thanks for sending that link to your review. I rooted the phone to change the watch face lock screen. I think somewhere along the line I sort of did something wrong because now the lock screen watch won't come up....which is a good thing! what I did was installed ADW Launcher and used a live wallpaper for a nice watch face. I kept the home screen free of any widgets. Swiping to the right then brings up a whole bunch of short cuts and widgets which I use.
cheers

Just bought the JY-UL135N2 what should I do right out of the box?

I get it in tomorrow, and I'm wondering where to start. Should I flash the newest firmware before messing around? Are there any helpful tips to get the best experience? Is the wifi ADB method the only, or best way to root? I don't think I have seen any custom roms out there, but have I overlooked them?
Thanks for any, and all help.
Also, root it, install the steering customization apk that Xda user gustden made, because it makes it so that your apps don't close when you turn your car off, and you can set up custom scripts for all the buttons.

Honestly I'm not sure how some people managed to install open gapps because flashfire/flashify don't work on the unit (for me and other people on the forum anyway). So, if you find a way to flash zip files onto the unit without a proper recovery (btw no custom recovery for us yet), please post your method here.
EDIT: OH! Forgot to mention : the unit does tend to overheat depending on your car and weather outside (head units are often near the heater core/AC ducts). I put a big CPU heatsink that I mounted on top of the heat spreader with thermal epoxy (arctic silver makes some good thermal epoxy). Some other people have gone for an active cooling setup and done the same only with a fan on top of the heatsink. It's still winter here in Moscow, so I'll see how it all holds up in the summer. So far so good though! Obviously doing this voids your warranty, but given that any RMA process involves sending your unit back to China it seems worthwhile to do it.

I have had this unit for a little over a month and have a pretty good list of tips & things I have done. I'll clean up my notes and post it. I totally agree with vassandrei about the heat sink. I did some stress testing before I installed it, and cpu was close to 80C in a 20C room, and it was throttling quite a bit. More discussion about it here:

There is no benefit in flashing a different gapps package, but it can be done by unzipping the gapp package and installing using adb.
I've got it updated, and rooted. Installed a few apps, and downloaded around 200 music videos with youtube red. I got it installed, after drimelling my dash kit. I didn't realize how recessed the screen was. I couldn't tell from the pictures, and videos. It makes it hard to select things at times. I probably should have gotten the one with touch controls, or something. Other than the recessed screen, so far my only complaint is the lack of sub controls. Everything else actually sounds pretty decent, but not being able to adjust that may get annoying. So far I have only spent a couple hours with it, but it seems pretty cool so far
Has anyone tried this app? ScreenDim . It claims to dim the actual backlight, not just applying a filter. I just found it browsing the web, so I haven't tried it myself yet. The screen is far too bright at night even at the lowest setting.

I think a type of overlay or filter is about the best you can do. Would love to dim the backlight, don't think it is possible. Let us know if you find something that works!
I know some people has been looking into the backlight, but seems like it's buried into some weird code and not handled the typical Android way, which is typical Chinese I guess, so not sure how that is coming along. I'd love to have more control over the screen myself, but in my car it doesn't bother me too much.

The ScreenDim app does appear to be able to dim the backlight, but the effect is minuscule. I guess for now I will have to deal with an overlay. I work overnights, so I have an hour drive every night, which is the only reason I really care.

Of course, none of this has to be done immediately. Do at your leisure, since it won't lose data or settings on messing with steering wheel programs.

Just to nitpick... throttling does NOT mean overheating. Throttling is done to *prevent* overheating.

It doesn't have to be "buried in some weird code" to be inaccessible. Keep in mind that control over hardware like backlight control is a KERNEL function, and we don't have the kernel source code that the vendor is legally obligated to provide.
On top of that, cheap hardware may not actually have a range beyond what we already have access to.

so do you have any tips or tricks for the head unit, or just felt like pretending you're the only one who understands anything about how an android anything works?

'Buried in some weird code' is actually pretty close. Remember its a Chinese head unit were talking about Turning screen on/off is by poking codes into the MCU. Standard android screen actions and timeouts do not apply, all custom code controlling it. Normally, KEYCODE_POWER (26) shuts a screen off.

That must be why screen off timeout setting does not work with the standard android Settings.apk that came with the update zip. If I want to change the setting I need to throttle between the Chinese Settings.apk and the standard Settings.apk.
You may be able to find some more information about the screen from their Chinese Settings.apk. Maybe even a code to turn it off. Would be neat to press a button in the unit to turn off the bright screen.

There is a whole list of setting that are stored locally, and do not use the standard android setting. Thus, the reason for modified settings package they use. Screen time off is one of them. Replacing the settings with a different one will probably break a number of things.
I have looked at 'blackscreen' code and even tied to a button, just to test it out. It worked ok, but the problem is it the screen comes back on whenever you press a button, change volume, or touch the screen. The screen-on is done by the MCU, so no way to avoid it coming back on. I also tried changing the time out setting (ro.fyt.auto_blackscreen) very low number to have it keep shutting off on its own. The auto black screen feature seems to get ignored if it is set to less than 30s, so that doesn't work well either.

Please share the 'blackscreen' code. I don't mind the screen coming back on if it is only a button press away from being off again.

I just ordered this unit for my C5 and will be my 2nd headunit made by Joying. These type of headunits will spoil you QUICKLY and hard to go back to a "name brand" one, even if you have to trim your dash to get it to fit.
I've looked around on how to root it, but came up empty other than your post. Could you please share how you rooted it or is it the same way you root older Joying units? Thanks for any help!!

How to calibrate Force Touch on Samsung Galaxy S8

Hello,
Since few weeks I was having problems with pressure sensitive home button on s8. It was accepting light presses and getting activated in the pocket many times. I took it to ASC and they said that they need to calibrate the Force Touch so they flashed stock rom again and calibrated the force touch.. After the calibration.. the home button worked well for days until I had reset my device from recovery. After the reset.. it again started to act weird and get activated by light press. They used their official tool i.e "Samsung Galaxy Must v2.4" tool to calibrate the force touch and test the device for water resistance after screen replacement.
As that official application is not available anywhere on the internet and it requires engineer account for web login.. Just wanted to know if there is an alternative application like that which can calibrate the force touch on s8 ?

Are you rooted?
Where'd you get that tool? Maybe I could help if I could try it.
Edit: nvm, read the whole thing.

No, I am not rooted but is there such tool for rooted users ?

Yes, I am aware of that settings. Btw, that settings adjuster doesn't works correctly until the force touch is calibrated properly. If the force touch is uncalibrated, setting the home button sensitivity to lowest will also accept light presses.

There is a tool on your phone for this, but its hidden and easier to get to if rooted. Luckily for you I figured out how to do it without ?
Open up the stock dialer and dial the following, without making any mistakes, at a reasonable pace:
*#0*#
Welcome to the factory test and calibration app. Select the sensor that's bugging you and go through the treats and see if it's broken. If the tests fail, you at least know they can't claim it's fine if you send it for warranty work
Im having slightly different home button issues after a screen replacement too. Ive tried dialling that thing and done various tests but cant see any for home button.

Heya, I know about this factory test. It cannot be used for calibrating force touch I guess. In the factory test menu, there is an option called "Sub-Menu Test" which tests the pressure sensitive home button. However, it is just for testing and I tried it before almost 50 times.. it doesn't helps. All what helped me before was their "Samsung Galaxy Must" tool which calibrated the force touch and the home button worked fine until factory reset or software update. Thanks though for the help

In the stock dialer type *#0*# and when the testing menu appears, tap "Sub-menu or Sub-key test". Press your home button for testing it. Though, my home button problem was present even before screen replacement. It was not related to hardware because I found the exact same problem on some other guy's s8 whose home button accepted very light press.. just like this one :-

I am interested in this also. Samsung replaced my screen a couple months back. Since then, the home button force touch is so sensitive that it's not usable. It turns on constantly in my pocket, or just barely touching it with my little finger. The sensitivity adjustment does nothing noticeable. It worked perfectly before the screen was replaced. I sent the phone back to Samsung, with a detailed explanation and instructions to calibrate the force touch. They sent the phone back, saying it passed all diagnostic tests and did nothing. I can understand why they wouldn't want the typical user having access to this adjustment, as many would be cracking their screens if set too hard. It seems the only way to get this working again is to buy a new phone.
I have the same problem too. Could someone provide this tool? No way to find it anywhere in the net!
I have the same problem. It's not as often as the first few weeks of the replacement.
I can't believe that noone has this tool, or that there is no alternative way to calibrate force touch
The only way to get it fixed (If you have done a factory reset) is ti get it calibrated again at Samsung ASC. That software requires engineer ID to login, that's why it is not available for general use.

If you or someone can get ahold of the tool, it's quite likely that I can bypass the engineering ID requirement and upload a patched version for everyone to use that doesn't need it.
Samsung official repair tool
this tool is for authorize samsung repair centre only, i work in one of those, in order to login to this tool you need special cable, an otp code expire every 6 hours so i dont think this tool is available online
this tool can test water resistant function, reset battery cycle, bypass samsung frp with 1 click, calibrate force touch, and diagnose all thing about your samsung phone
