Hi all, I have had my galaxy s4 I9500 for 4 weeks now and running completely on stock rom I9500UBUAMDK. Only recently I have been having problems with the phone rebooting 3-4 times a day in my pocket! This is getting very frustrating and need an urgent fix! I have already factory reset the phone and there's no warranty as I purchased my phone online and unlocked. If anyone else is having the same problem or could give me advice, please share. Thanks!
There is a known problem , with too many apps open, and when camera is launched, the phone will reboot.

Hey guys , I've already searched the boards for this and there were a few people posting about this issue aswell but they've stopped posting for about a week now...
I am having an i9500 (octa core version) and running United Arab Emirates 2013 June 4.2.2 I9500XXUBMEA I9500OJVBMEA firmware (stock , no root) , frequently when the phone is locked it will shut down on it's own and I have to keep the power button held a bit longer than usual for it to start (like 20 seconds) , I do not want to root it because the company I bought it from is not that...good....so I am very afraid of sending it to their service department , please , any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Some more option u can try is close all running app after using it by pressing home button and use 3rd option
See if that helps

Hey mate ! Thanks for the reply , I tried reseting to factory settings , wiping cache and flashing other firmwares , different firmwares cause different issues like screen freezes , crashes etc. This one just makes the s4 turn off sometimes while being locked.
It's not from any apps as long as it's nothing stock related ( I do use S Health and the likes )

What is the purpose of installing a firmware and then resetting the device ? I've never reset after I flashed a firmware I think
I have found a way to reproduce this!
It happens MOSTLY when I unplug it from the usb cord and lock it (by pressing the button ) after leaving it locked for 5 minutes 'ish
Any help guys ? please , I don't want to have to send it to the shop where they'll keep it for 2-3 weeks...
EDIT : Also I wanted to ask , did I void my warranty by flashing firmwares for the i9500 from sammobile.com ? (I did no rooting , only stock firmwares)

I had the similar issue on my note 2 after installing a MIUI rom which was posted and in that case the moment i click LOCK button it used to get stuck / powerr off
and the issue was later solved by flashing a rescue firmware.. was something related to kernal which caused that issue
Does not matter which firmware u had b4 u can still flash 2 /3 diffrnt firmware which are stock and do reset after flashing u will get rid of this issue for sure
And if that also does not wrk then there myte be a hardware issue i hope thats not the case
I think I need some help , I've sent it to the service and the guy told me the fact that the phone freezes and reboots itself on it's own a few times a day is "normal" lol , what the hell? I have the same i9500 running the same Emirates firmware and I'm at 90% percent sure that your battery's serial number starts by "BD.." these batteries are swollen and one of the symptoms of having a defective battery is the random reboot loops like the one's you're having. I happen to have a drfective battery on my i9500 baught from the United Emirates however I live in Tunisia and Samsjng refused to replace it for free saying that the warranty isn't international... So can you tell us what did you do?
Hi all
I just bought a new galaxy s4 since the first start the screen freeze and the device reboot it self, I didn't install any app on it, I didn't even finish configuring the device, I was able to finish first startup configuration after 15 time of freezing and rebooting on me at different steps or times, I did hard reset and I downloaded the latest software update, nothing seems to fix it
I'm sure it's a software issue since I tested it's hardware
can anyone help me with a possible solution to that problem ?!?!?!

No, takes about 1,5 hrs to download unless you get a premium hotfile acccount.
Get it exchanged.. I cant remember a time where I purchased and started rebooting on its own that quickly.
I have the same problem. Phone freezes then restarts around 15 times a day. Help !
PS :I'm still on official software. I tried reflashing its official firmware via odin and the problem persists.

did you try to wipe data and cache??
I'm pretty sure you both have a hardware issue. Freezing and rebootung sounds like probs with the CPU. As the problem where since first start, there sholdn't be a hindering getting it exchanged...
I agree. If it's happening straight out of the box send it back for replacement. Seems like hardware fault to me.

Yes I tried to wipe data and cache multiple times.
I bought it from a store 2 months ago and I don't think they offer warranty like Samsung stores. I will try to tell the seller that the phone has manufacturing defect and maybe he would replace it .

Same thing. This is a replacement for the first phone that suddenly died (didn't power on anymore). First one before it died, worked flawlessly. I didn't reboot it for weeks. This new one reboots 10 times a day on it own.

If u need any firmware pls:
1. Tell me model of phone (i9500, i9505)
2. If is branded or no to one phone company
3. Android 4.2.2 or 4.3
4. Where are u from?
If you get random reboots the phone freezes up without no reason and while booting the phone it hangs on the samsung logo get your Battery exchanged asap.
Samsung acknowledged to have shipped a bad series of batteries serial starting with BD
you can exchange them under waranty
other symptoms you can encounter is that the phone is rebooting during incomming calls/sms and a huge battery drain before reboot you are at 80% after you only have 20% or less left
you can also check if the battery is swells up.
replace this battery asap because it can explode and for your sake I hope this does not happen to you and especially when the phone is in one pf the pockets of your pants (have to be carefull for your childsupport )
goodluck

Hi all
I bought a new samsung S4 i9505 ---without guaranty---
2 days ago the device started restarting and the sound goes dead and there can't be anything to make the device produce any sound neither from the front speaker nor from the main speaker nor even the headphones !!
I did a hard reset and voila -or i thought so- the device finally worked fine completely , until after about an hour when it started freaking out and not responding and the sound went dead again , restarting the device only sent it to a boot loop !
Finally today i installed a complete system using ODIN and it worked fine again for only an hour and then it went to the boot loop
I plugged the phone to the charger and powered it on and it worked smoothly but with no sound at all again :X
So can any guy help me sort this problem out please
Thanks in advance

Stores usually offer warranty.
So there's something odd at the middle.
Maybe you bought it from some dealer on the street..and those usually never sell you anything good.
Well the store did give me a warranty but only for software issues , and he said this must be a hardware issue.
So is this true ?

I asked WHEN, not WHERE.
When is time related. Where is location related.
Also, warranties usually are all-rounders. Meaning they offer service to software and hardware related issues.
So why did they offer only software?
Anyway. If it is hardware related then there is nothing you can do, except to change the parts.
LOL
My bad , i read it like where , and was like what difference does it make where i got it , my mistake
anyway as i said it is not a big firm or anything like that is just a small shop only providing software warranties
and as i said in the first post i got it about a month ago
i will try flashing with pit file
thanks for the advice

Didn't see that info
Anyway. What I am trying to say is that maybe they knew about the phone having issues and that's why they offered only software warranty (A bit paranoic, I know)
once the phone boots up try dialing *#0*# and let us know how that goes. This MAY be a kernel issue. happens when they probably have given you an S4 with a different model number, with a different firmware flashed. (sometimes i9505 vs. i9515 due to different chips) What is the model number shown in the download mode? i9505? And Knox Status?
The service tests all OK except both speaker tests
The download mode shows i9505
i don't know what this Knox is

So your bootloader doesnt say anything about knox? What version of android are you running?
KNOX cernerl lock : 0x0
KNOX warranty void: 0x1
i was on latest jellybean , tried flashing it with odin and the problem didn't go away
tried lollipop and it is just the same
when i turn the phone on it gives the booting sound hangs about a min or tow boots up , sometimes doesn't even complete booting, sometimes the sound stays functional for a few mins then stops sometimes it instantly after the boot stops
could it be some minor issue like battery malfunction maybe ?
or is it a big issue ?
i don't want to take it to samsung and pay the fix if i can fix it my self because i am not good at turkish and they speak so little english that i will not be able to make them understand the problem
