[Q] What should i expect from g2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im thinking about geting the g2 because its cheap and very powerful. Im just wondering what kind of phone is it and is it hard to get custom roms installed? On my huawei acsend p6 it was easy to prepare the device for custom roms.

Easy. Almost too easy. Root with ioroot or even towelroot, install autorec apk and there you have your custom recovery!

Oh cool even easier than on my huawei... 1st you needed chinese firmware for unlocked bootloader then using adb flash twrp.img and after that you can install custom roms

No you're fine. I just got mine yesterday and naturally the first thing I did was update. The steps to unlock the bootloader and flash a recovery (or SuperSU, if you want root on stock ROM) are the same regardless of Android version.
EDIT: Also you DON'T NEED TO ROOT to use ROMs—all ROMs come with root already built in. Skip everything to do with rooting, unless you're trying to root and stay on the stock ROM.
All you need is to unlock the bootloader (ridiculously easy) and flash a custom recovery (also super easy). Then, without root, use the custom recovery to wipe and flash your ROM (which has root built in) and gapps.

[Q] Custom Recovery Videotron D801V11B Variant

I'm considering purchasing an on contract LG G2 from videotron. The D801V11B.
Is there any support for their variant in the development community? I found no mention of a custom recovery.
Can I use the normal root method method
and use the T-Mobile D801 recovery?
I'm not interested in the phone unless i could load up a seriously UN-bloated rom.
Hey don't know if you're still interested but i was able to root and install twrp on this phone!
Can you show me how you got the recovery. Plz reply!

Question about rooting.

Hi everyone!
I just rooted my phone with IOroot following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45692679#post45692679 . I was just wondering if that process unlocked my bootloader? If not, do I need to unlock it to flash CyanogenMod?
Thanks
No And no. Just install a custom recovery and flash cm

I have ROM manager on my device. Will ClockWorkRecovery work fine or should I use TWRP?
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
Do not use rom manager. It doesn't work on this phone, or any phone in my opinion ?. Download flashify or freegee. To install a recovery, that you will need to download

recovery

I know this has probably been asked before but Is the bootloader locked down on the lg g2 or can I unlock it and run a custom recovery. I recently bought a Galaxy s4 and cannot unlock this phone.
Well you don't really need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom recovery and custom Roms. Root with ioroot (makes the efs backup as well), use freegee for custom recovery and flash away!

Need some help from the Recovery Gods

I have a pre_MF3 phone but my gf has this device with NC1 Bl, I was able to use geohot's root method to acquire root access. I have supersu installed but can't update binaries. I tried using goo.im to install a recovery but that seems to have failed (it says it installed successful). Each to I try to reboot recovery it boots into DL mode and will continue doing that until I pull battery and force a it into the "booting a custom software" screen to which then I can push vol down and restart it normal but cannot in anyway get it into recovery mode. I'm assuming this may have to deal with it being a "loki'd" recovery? Does this seem like a plausible issue? If it is what's the chances of say, since we can install I9505 roms that we could install the un- "loki'd" I9505 custom recoveries? Also, this isn't packaged with a recovery so, I'm assuming the best method of installing a recovery may be odin? Any feedback would be nice, Thanks in advance

Bootloader is locked. You can't have recovery besides Safestrap on any version past MDL 4.2.2. You'll have to reflash it with ODIN to fix the recovery issue and use Safestrap to flash ROMs.

Do you understand what I'm talking about ? Geohots newest root method that works on the s5 and everything? If so I guess what you're telling me is this isn't a true root method but merely a way to get a ss installed?

I guess I was thinking this was a true root method. It does make sense that I'll need SS seeing as how the other recovery isn't working. I'll go try installing SS

Root is not the same as a bootloader unlock. Older phones only needed root, now that we have complicated locked bootloaders with checks we need more than just root to install a custom recovery and ROMs.

No I understand and that is all my fault. I guess all this hype made me think it was a true unlock. Not just root. Im sure the hype was mostly over s5
