I was hoping someone could give me more information to why my galaxy s5 is scoring in the s4 grouping.
Attached some screen shots to show test results
Score around 27500 on anTuTu benchmark
My only guess is that it's not rooted and the galaxy s5 number is for a rooted version.
Is it slow in daily use? If not, then just leave it alone. If it is, you might have some power saving feature stuck on.
And no, that number is not for a rooted phone. Rooting doesn't make phones faster. It can if you install a custom kernel or increase the CPU speed, but just rooting a phone does didly squat in terms of speed.

I just d/l AnTuTu and ran the test, my phone has been off the charger all day and I've used it off and on all day, it ran with a score of: 36348
Verizon 4.4.2

Good ish I must have switched on power saver awhile back and forgot I switched it on lol
Ran the benchmark again results were 37000ish
I'm going to close the tread basically me just being stupid
How do you close a thread, do i do it or is it the mods that have to.

So i am curious to know does any utility working on Note, that improves performance of Note.
I have installed
1.Set CPU - really i dont find any markable improvement
2.Auto starts - It stops loading some SF on starts definitely, but what? does it has any outcome?
3.RAM manager - My Note have MAY B slight more free RAM, but again does it improve performance?
Really telling i feel all above procedure giving me placebo effect not more than this.
B'coz when i compare it with stock, hardly i can feel difference.
Sure these have marked effect on low capacity RAM devise. when there is consumption of RAM > 80 always remain. But In case of Note, I think it is useless.

Don't use SetCPU. Your phone will not go to Deep Sleep if you use that app.
Try system tuner pro.

Seriously you don't see the advantage of this?
Not just giving you RAM which benefits are vague. Depending on your use. When the blocked app is not is loaded.
As well as you stop a program from loading, which might ask for sync, wake up the device etc.
Its an alternative to Tits backup Freeze. Except you still can call up on the program with the allowed actions.
I agree it stops loading blocked application, it may released some RAM too. But what i am asking is after releasing of that RAM, does it improves performance?
b'coz Note have alwyas remain 200-300 RAM free, if it is 300-350MB then does it have any outcome? really I dont see.

Did you even read what I wrote .
It stops the program, like the tits freeze. the program won't run.
like for example you stop with this the samsung auto update.
Means it will stop syncing. Eating your battery.
Again saying it. Its like a safer way to freeze an app...
With Autostart you reach better battery stats and lower RAM usage due to blocking/freezing the apps.
They won't start at the beginning and if they aren't loaded, they aren't in the RAM and then you have low RAM usage.
I don't use Set CPU, because the Note is fast enough and doesn't need any overclocking or undervolting.
I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro to see how the stats of my battery are, i can see the full time and when it goes to deep sleep.

No problem here with deep sleep and setcpu.
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7000 mit Tapatalk
With my last rooted phone, I diligently went through every single app that started up without my say-so. You can disable every event they respond to. It is a lot of work, but satisfying to the OCD child inside.
There were dozens, all popping up any time they wanted and eating CPU cycles merrily. I did get more RAM and battery doing that. I will do the same when I root this mother.
Setcpu is working beautifully. No issues with deep sleep whatsoever.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
It's true, setcpu working perfectly
I use Tegrak Overclock instead of setCPU because it allows me to overclock GPU as well. Overclocking gives me better experience in gaming and smoother interface.
Autostarts gives me better boot times and gives me control over apps. I like apps to run when I want them to run. Why would I need my car fuel management app to run in the background most of the time of I use it once a week? What kind of a dimwit had that idea? It has nothing to do with freezing apps (except that they don't run at boot in both cases).
RAM manager is my favourite snake oil. According to nearly all the experts around it does absolutely nothing except killing my battery. Somehow I like the way it's been kiling my battery for last 2 months and I'll leave it that way. I don't care about the mechanics of it - simply put since I've installed it I experience less laggy moments in UI (ie. when i press my back button 78906 times to go back through several apps) and the effect of my Note getting sluggish after a day of use is gone.
By the way, I've been wondering - if the famous Android memory management is so perfect - why is it being tweaked so much in so many custom ROMs? And this is what RAM manager really is - set of tweaks packaged in a convenient app, not a task killer.

But this is the very nature of overclocking. When it goes wrong it goes wrong - reboot or pull the battery and choose some other parameters. If it's not OK with you don't do it. Why blame an app which is simply a tool (just one of many, I had the same problem with Tegrak several times)???

...Who seems to be getting worse battery life since I've rooted and installed CM10 and Franco Kernel than stock.
Before with stock I was only losing about 1% every two hours on standby (sometimes even better I've no idea how)
Now I'm losing about 3% an hour on standby and also about 30% an hour screen time with just basic browsing (Screen brightness set to auto).
Also Media server is hammering my battery. Like I lost 3% battery in 15 mins without the screen on just playing music (not streaming) is that normal, I've come from an iphone 4s which didn't lose that in an hour :S
have i flashed it badly is there something else maybe i should try or are these stats about right ????
thanks guys
That's just the way it is just custom roms. When flashing, put your head between your legs and pray for the best. You can spend hours trying to figure out what's gone wrong, but you might never get an answer.
You can try underclocking your N4. Currently my dual-core Snapdragon S3 T-Mo Galaxy S2 is underclocked to 810MHz from 1.5GHz and performance is still great. I'm guessing you can UC your N4 to at least 1.2-1GHz and performance will still be great because of the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. Also, what governor and i/o are you using?

Hi Gents
Thanks for the reply, yeah it does seem a bit of a hit and miss kinda situation, I'm not masively bothered, im hoping eventually someone will stumple across a fix for the way the screen murders the battery life but im not holding my breath. Still love the phone, really getting used to it now, have tried (and failed) many times to switch to android, must be honest, this is the closest I've come so far to waving bye bye to ios, android is really really fantastic as an os, it's also super pretty to look at these days, stock apps like contacts, calender and the phone app itself are beautiful.
Let the phone and battery have several cycles, it will improve, eventually
thanks mate !!

Under clocking your phone isn't a viable situation. It's a phone, what's the point in it if you're not going to use it to your fullest when my phone lasts through the whole day going from 384-1500?
Some battery tips for op:
- download better battery stats (Google it for a xda version) use this to debug wakelock and ensure your phone is deep sleeping under cpu states. You can also use cpu spy to check cpu stats. Better battery stats is a must need.
- disable Google latitude in maps. Disable the automatic reporting and any other checked marks
- disable Google now cards that you have no use for
- disable gps (some apps use gps and drains battery when it keeps using gps when it isn't necessary)
- ensure your governor is interactive and on latest version of Franco (r20 is very good)

Highly advise doing that. Other kernels are way more optimized whereas CM is focused on the ROM itself and not optimizing the stock kernel.
I believe CM10 uses stock Google kernel anyways (could be wrong).
Use Franco Kernel or anybody elses kernel that you choose to.
Mine definitely improved after rooting and flashing custom ROM. Battery life when I was still stock was horrible.

I recently got my first android phone, and one of the first things I decided to do was root it (I read about rooting when looking up stuff about the android OS and then decided to do it myself.) After looking further into rooting I read up on an app called setcpu. I decided to download it and see what it was like (I planned on optimizing my performance and battery life, and still do but for now decided not to in case I later decide its not necessary for how I use my phone.) After installing setcpu it asked me to choosing a setting type, I just went with auto. After clicking auto it changed the current cpu of the settings of my phone, but it didn't bother me because I figured I could reset. After looking at the app for a bit I decided I didn't want to optimize just yet and then started to look how to reset but couldn't find a way to. Since I did not see a reset I just decided to uncheck the box for "set on boot" and then restarted the phone and uninstalled the app. I figured doing that would change it back to factory settings. Weeks after this I have been starting to have some problems in performance with lag when starting an app, and the phone getting hot when gaming. I decided to do a benchmark test thinking its possible that the settings actually didn't get reset and I realized that my cpu scores are lower than the standard LG G2 (I know that its different per device but because its possible that its due to the setcpu settings I figured I would ask. also my scores are CPU Integer - 2832, 3194 standard and CPU Float-point - 2817, 3165.) Since I am considerably lower by 300 points on each I am afraid that the setcpu auto settings are still in effect causing issues with my phone. So basically my questions are, is it possible that the settings didn't get reset, and is there anyway to reset them if they did not? also if no way to reset then would anyone be willing to help me optimize my phone settings? I am sorry about the long post, just wanted to be as thorough as I could. Also thanks in advance.
P.S. I have not installed any custom roms or kernels onto the phone.
It is very unlikely that setting by SetCpu will remain permanent.
Also, benchmark is depends on many factors, for example, CPU temperature. Doing benchmark when cold will gives better result.

Ok, thanks man. I was actually kind of hoping it was the setcpu settings because that would explain the heat and lag issues, but since I just redid the test and scored higher I have to guess its just the phone. I am going to just have to optimize for performance I guess.

Sorry its been so long but I decided to just today look back on this post and see if anyone else responded after still having issues. It is getting very hot and I just used cpu spy today and got that my range is between 300 and 2265, so apparently the settings are still sticking. Can anyone help me reset the settings to normal?
Ok I did a hard reset, it still reads the same frequency, so I guess that wasn't actually showing what I thought it was. Hopefully a hard reset is all I needed to fix it.
I did a full flash and receiving the same issues so I think a new phone is going great to be needed

I started doing this just for experimental basis on my note 4 without root after lollipop update.
1. I encrypt my phone.
2. I activate knox protaction under security, i just ignored warning about activate this feature will affect performance.
Results i like to share is...
No problem in performance.
Antutu score around 50k.
Antutu stability test shows fentastic.
Amazing battery life.
In my opinion u can try this, if you don't like very well u can revert back.
U can select finger scan as a password for screen unlock.

Hi xda family
What has everyone's battery life been so far on root?
Preroot I was getting over a day with 6sot and 16 percent
Android drain.
After rooting with the eng kernel it has dipped a lot with high android system drain. Have not used amplify and greenify yet. Just been used my tweaks I did on pd7 kernel.
Thoughts?
Amplify will probably help out a lot. I've seen others reporting the battery is worse after rooting as well. Hopefully someone nails it down and posts a fix. If not, I'll see what I can do once (if) I decide to root.
Yeah I can literally watch my battery % drop after root. I noticed 46% of use is the android system. I'm also getting lots of random reboots.
You guys rooted with an EngBoot that was not intended for daily use, this is one of the side effects.
Yeah the ENG-BOOT is a terrible way to achieve root. I really hope that this tiny victory doesn't cause people to stop looking for real root. The ENG-BOOT is not meant for daily use is going to cause lots of issues, it's designed just to push fixes to the system for an authorized repair shop.
The focus should have always been on the bootloader.

Wow 46 is high. To be honest for eng kernel it's been stable. No lag and reboots for me. I am debloating and doing a few tweaks and making it settle in some more. If I can get to 4 sot I will take that.
Also I have heard if you your governor set to on demand it will cause reboots. Using interactive and been solid.

With all the different tweaks now available through root, the battery life is quite excellent. The only concerning thing is how hot this phone can get at times (after a reboot, gaming, downloading an app) that I may be doing great harm to my batteries life in the long run.
okay so,
the engineering kernel's default governor is performance and that's the only thing that's causing the heat issues and thus, the throttling of the CPU cores to lower frequencies resulting in lag/stuttery performance. that's all you're experiencing. thinking that apps are using more/less battery than usual is silly.
after wiping data and cache and going through the horribly slow setup process, I used kernel adiutor to change the governor back to interactive (NOT ondemand) and let the phone finish settling/syncing. after 2 days, it's back to its silky smooth performance and all-day battery. I don't see anyone experiencing anything other than symptoms of the performance governor.
btw, it took the same amount of time for my phone to stop being laggy when I first bought it. so literally all you need to do is change your governor back to interactive if you want the performance/battery life you had before, and zero heat issues. antutu scores 110k-138k depending on temperature/throttling. just like it did before. battery gets 4:30-5:30hrs SOT just like it did before.

I used kernel aduitor too till I found out my big core were maxed at 1500 also just like the little cores and you can't change those with aduitor.
Once I installed kernel toolkit, I confirmed it.
So I bumped up the big cores max and got much more speed back. No heat here
Food for thought.
