I've been trying for the past 20 minutes to boot into recovery and can't get it. I've tried rooting honeycomb and it keeps failing, and I tried updating from the OTA menu and it just stays at "connecting". I don't care about jellybean yet, but i'd atleat like to get ics on this thing. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, i have adb drivers installed and an sd card with stock ics update.zip from lenovo website.
Ok, I got it to boot into recovery. Somebody needs to update the instructions on the wiki. Those instructions and the majority of others are poorly written.
Just wait for it to vibrate then push vol + a couple times ( while holding power). Lenovo's website should have the update available to download.

Hi there,
This is my first Android tablet, and was quite impressed. I did have one problem, and that was netflix not working with the tablet. Within 5 hours of opening the box it came in, I bricked my a500. It was trying to flash the tablet with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178773 , since other members said it worked, but I bricked my tablet. I used CWM Recovery to flash it (after rooting of course) and I think the settings made it go to a Galaxy Tab 10.1 Setting, but I didn't know that I had hit it instead of hitting back. I flash the update, and the tablet bricks. I get a LNX checksum error every time I try to boot, and I have tried installing OTA as well as other update methods, such as sc2k's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129873 and http://androidforums.com/acer-iconia-tab-a500/345419-un-brick-acer-iconia-tab-a500.html . None of the above have helped, as every time I try to install any of the update.zip from a microSD card, the Android loading screen stops about a 1/4th way through and I'm left with a Yellow Warning sign. Any help would be appreciated. To be left with a bricked pad within 5 hours of receiving it is pretty depressing, and I would like to enjoy this for as long as it lasts. (I thought it would be like PSP custom firmware modding, but sadly i was wrong)
Might try this. The key is to get to a download mode and then flash.
On a droid charge for example, hold vol button down (with battery out) and then plug USB into laptop.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/samsung-fascinate-development/88657-if-you-think-you-bricked.html
Sadly, that guide is for phones/ samsung, so I don't know what to do from there.
Maybe if I have a copy of the latest firmware, that might work. Seeing as I just got it today, it might work if I use the latest firmware (I also updated it today as well)
are you able to hold vol down and boot into cwr ?
Maybe you can find something usefull there :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086785&page=4
first of all I don't really understand what you did.
second, the download update.zip is for asus eeepad instead of acer iconia
if ever you have a problem with an acer iconia product, i would suggest you should use a stock acer iconia 3.1 rom.
you can find it in the dev section
also don't forget to get the zip decryption tool, you can also find it in the dev section.
then once decryption is done, extract the update.zip and put it on the external sd card (which i hope you have)
once on it put the card into the appropriate place in the acer iconia
then you hit volume+ (volume plus) and the power button until it restarts. after release the power button but keep you finger int the volume+ until you see a message that it is formatting data cache etc..
then you are back to stock ACER and you take it from there to patch.b don't even try to use any other type of ROM since you don't seem to be to experienced.
I have an a500 with a thor 3.2 rom. I recently used CWM to reset to factory to install the Thor ICS v170 rom. I got an error when restarting into recovery to install it so I restarted again. There it hung up on the logo. So I restarted into recovery holding the power and volume down, but here is where it goes nuts. Once into recovery, the tablet vibrates nonstop and a Team Rogue logo comes up in the background and gives me errors for reading system data and cache. It gives me menu items listen but doesnt let me do anything and I have to Hold power to power down. Still even restarting doesnt get past the Acer boot logo. Please help me out!

That's what happens when you run stuff from Dev's that don't adhere to GPL. Undoubtedly some leftover code from whomever it was taken from and "somebody" didn't bother to clean it out all the way. FYI, Team Rogue did ICS development for the Xoom tablet, and also some early CWM work. Guess we know where "somebody" got some code from
Ok, back to your current issue at hand. For starters, you're probably still on an HC Bootloader and probably running a really old version of CWM recovery. If you are going to run ICS or JB roms, I highly suggest you upgrade your bootloader to the patched ICS Unlocked bootloader. Also, I would update to the latest version of CWM. You can get it at his site.
I believe your next rom may be able to run on an HC bootloader, or so I've heard, but your CWM needs to be updated, and that's what probably threw out the errors.
You can find a guide for the unlocked bootloader installation in the Dev Forum. It's stickied.
Hope this fixes your issue. If not, post back.

Yeah, its strange but doesn't surprise me.
OP, your partitions are also undoubtedly messed up as well. I suppose you didn't by chance write down your UID number did you? You may be able to get by with installing an ICS full update zip. Maybe.

Soo...nothing. is it just a piece of junk now?

I wouldn't think it is 100% bricked, but I'd definitely ask on tegraowners.com since it is from one of their recovery/roms. Guess you may have already asked Thor about the issue though?
I have my cpuid but when i run the dotnetdetector to update the usb doesnt stay connected long at all.

Are you trying to manipulate the A500 from a Windows PC or Linux? Notice you said Dotnetdetector, sounds like windows, but not familiar with it exactly. Maybe you could try using a live linux distribution (such as Ubuntu or Fedora) to try to get fastboot/adb and reflash the recovery partition with a known working recovery for A500. The teamrogue thing still puzzles me and I'm just curious if bits of Team Rogue's code has been pieced in with the A500 recovery you are trying to use, or if you may have got a hold of a recovery that was for a different device ? I'm not trying to say that you are a nub and flashed a recovery for the wrong device, but there is a possibility depending on where you obtained the rom from, that it could have been mis-labeled for your device ( but been for a different one) If it was for a diff device it would make sense why you can't do anything with it.
Let me get it straight how this happened.
1. You had CWM installed for A500 and recovery was working fine
2. You used CWM to try to flash a Thor ROM, in which the installation failed.
3. After reboot you have nothing but the Acer logo
4. When you boot back into recovery, it is no longer CWM, but a Team Rogue logo is displayed, and that is all you see?
That's the way I interpret the issue you are having anyway. Can you please send me a link to the ROM that you tried to install that triggered all of this. That way I can see exactly what the installer script attempted to do (because it very well could have tried to flash a diff recovery to your device and failed on something else)
Hope we can get things straightened up for you. Good luck again bud
Hello everybody, I have a501 running on HC, wanted to install an ICS ROM, downgraded, rooted the tablet and somehow after the downgrade I ended up with a stock android v.3.0 but it was for the a500 so therefore I didnt have 3g and gps no more. After this the tablet gave me an ICS update I tried installing it but still no 3g and gps (obviously). Then I completely messed my recovery and now I ended up with a bricked tablet, cannot boot (stuck in a bootloop), cannot enter recovery (gives me an exclamation mark and nothing more) cannot enter in APX mode... Any ideas on fixing this mess? Tried everything in this thread and still nothing...
Thanks in advance!
Well, when you took the update, it overwrote your recovery and everything else, which is why you have stock recovery.
To get into APX, with tablet off, hold the pinhole reset, the press PWR. Hold for 4 seconds, release PWR, the 1 second later release the pinhole.
You should have a black display, and the PWR light should be on. Confirm via Windows Device Manager
Keep in mind, to update to the unlocked bootloader V*, you will need to have your UID number, so I hope you still have it written down somewhere (so you can get the SBK for the bootloader change).
Hi,
My A500 is stuck on the acer logo screen. What should i do now? can anyone please help me on this?
Current Andriod version is 4.0
Are you on Stock ICS? or do you have custom the bootloader?
If you're on OTA Stock ICS, when booting your tablet, try holding down the volume down button, and moving the lock orientation switch on and off, that should erase data and cache, essentially a factory reset. If that doesn't work, you might have to pull out your SD card, and get an OTA update zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25590039&postcount=131
Place the downloaded file onto the root of your SD, then reboot the Iconia and hold the volume up key. This will force it into the recovery to reinstall ICS.
If you're not on stock, boot yourself into APX mode, by turning off the tab, then with a paper clip, hold the reset button, while doing that, press the power button for two seconds, release power button, then release the reset button. This should bring you into APX mode. After that, use Blackthunders APX tool, provided you have your CPUID and SBK, to reflash the bootloader. This will reinstall the recovery and bootloader, from which you can re flash the ROM
Hi,
I'm in a similar boat, so instead of starting a new thread, I hope you don't mind I hitch hike on yours.
My iconia got stuck at the loading screen with "android" being displayed.
I'm on stock HC, had this problem once before, and managed to find a rom and flashed to get it going.
But this time, when I flashed the same rom that worked last time, the tablet said "unofficial rom" upon reboot. Tried a few other roms to no avail.
Just wondering if there's a original official Aust. rom that I can download and reflash my iconia?
Thanks

Stock HC after 3.1 is unrootable so you need to go back to 3.1 and take the ota to 3.2 and 3.2.1..or
Forget HC and flash the v8 bootloader from 3.1 and get yaself some ics/jb goodness!
There's a nz ota update.zip for 3.1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049778

ThinkPad Tablet A400
Android v. 4.0.3
Have an app that needs to run on Android 4.1 and quickly found out this 2 year old device was pretty much left unsupported since about 3 months after I bought it in May of 2012. So, I located the links to xda-developers and dove into the install process.
Got the device to Root following install directions etc.
Cannot get the device to reboot into recovery mode from ROM Manager nor via ROM Installer.
Tried installing the CyanogenMod v0.9 anyway from inside either aforementioned utility (from the .zip file), just reboots back to the normal state.
I'd pay to download & install Android 4.1 on this device, seriously...just lost 6 hours of time attempting to do this ROM upgrade.
any suggestions?
First thing that comes to mind is that you should use the volume up button multi-press on device power-up to get to Recovery Mode.

I've tried various combinations of that Vol button....still stubbornly refuses to go to CWM.
Now, I am running Android 4.0.3..perhaps that is the issue, ie. perhaps the CWM image file was intended to be used on TPTs running Android 3.x.
It'd be nice to go to a site and buy a $50 OS load....
Well....wonders never cease. I happened across a post talking about the TECHNIQUE to reboot the TPT into CWM...so, sure enough...I got the puppy into CWM.
HERE 'tis for the rest of us nuves out there:
Entering/Booting CWM Recovery on the Thinkpad Tablet
Shut down your Thinkpad Tablet
Press the power button until the Tablet vibrates
Keep pressing and releasing the volume up button until you see Booting Recovery Kernel Image in the upper left corner. It's all about timing of when the volume up button is pressed. That's why it's a good idea to just keep on pressing and releasing the button until the message appears.
Well i continued on with the Jelly Bean load from the xda-developers...and after reboot to ver 0.92 the tpt seemed to freeze on the os boot screen.
So, i fell back to the 4.0.3 os and will read-up on what can freeze the reboot into 4.1 android.
CWM is a cool program..gotta say it.
Can't get it to install CWM
Tried numerous times but now I have lost my original recovery and it just loops,
Changed permissions but won't go and when I am in the recovery boot after pushing the volume button it just reboots as there is nothing there suggestions?
Honestly, the best thing you could do is get something newer/better supported. I hate saying that, because I bought the 64gb version right around the same time you did. The tablet had so much potential with the pen, USB, sd slot, and even pci-e, but it suffered from non-existant Lenovo support, and very little dev support. Koshu's work on it was amazing, but without trim I feel like I have to constantly wipe and start fresh to do anything with it. Clearing dalvik from time to time helps, but not as much.
