Hi All,
I'm currently using Straight Talk with ATT SIM. Everything was working fine. I updated the software to 4.2.2 on Sunday. It didn't come OTA so I updated by going to Google Services Framework, clear data, then force stop. After a reboot, the OTA 4.2.2. showed up and I updated then.
Now, I am realizing that I cannot make or receive calls at all. Phone shows signal strength at 100% (4 bars) but when dialing, it does not go through, just silence, then a beep, then ends call.
I have tried rebooting phones, pulling SIM card out and replacing (twice) all with no luck.
HELP!!
Edit: I just realized I don't have internet connection either.

Sorry for the newbie response but how can I find out what radio I am on?
Ah...found it.
Radio: 2.0.1700.48
I was on the same situation a couple days ago. after flashing 4.2.2, I can still make a call, people can still call me, but no sound from either me or them. The micros work fine (you can check by Voice Search).
At that time, after I ended messing everything up, I restocked the phone to 4.2.1. Everything worked fine after then. I dont know why this happens. You may wait for another solution. Just let you know that a restock can fix it, so dont worry. However I dont encounrage it becuase it wipes your phone completly.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I would like a solution that doesn't require complete wipe of phone.
So frustrating...been unable to use phone all day. Who knows how many calls I've missed.

In case you have no choice, back up your phone by Titanium backup. That saves everything you have at the moment
Same issue after 4.2.2 update
I'm having the exact same issue with my Nexus 4. Let me elaborate. I've had my Nexus 4 since the initial sale, today I got the OTA update sent via Tmobile. My phone seemed to work fine afterwards until I tried to answer a call. Upon attempting to answer or make a call (even with full service) the bars instantly drop to zero (hollow triangle) and an out-of-area tone & message display.
Restarted, pulled sim, sim worked fine in other phone, checked & rechecked APN/other settings, had Tmobile "reset" my device on network, finally wiped my device. I still can not make or receive phone calls. The radio seems to just disconnect when attempting to.
Spoke with Tmobile customer support (worthless), Tech Care (Very helpful & knowledgeable but no fix), Google Nexus support (Offered to replace device! However can't have any cosmetic damage). LG also contacted but zero assistance given.
I'm stumped, it seems to me that this issue might be related to the update disabling the LTE radio, because data & everything else works except for making calls. Like I said, Google offered to replace the device however I did (in good faith) advise them of a hairline crack on the back of the device, like many other N4 owners have had, not from a drop. Upon hearing of cosmetic damage they said that it's no longer their liability. I'm very disappointed but I understand.
Since the warranty is void from the crack, I'm going to root & play around.
Any questions or advice?

Also, I'm on the same radio (Baseband?) as OP.

I'm curious to see if rooting will solve this issue. If yes, I will go this route.
Keep me posted. So frustrated.
Thanks johnmedic.
Hey guys,
Just want to see if anyone else has noticed an issue that has happened to me a couple times. My n4 "loses" its network connection for both received calls and sms.
Status bars indicate a good signal (no hollow triangle) and data works fine during these events. I first noticed when my neighbor came by telling me he sent me a couple messages which I never received although I had been playing with the phone all day.
After rebooting I received many sms and voicemail message indications.
The scary part is there is no way to know when it's happening. There is no indication of lost signal and data service continues to works fine - all calls just go straight to VM and no SMS or VM notifications are delivered.
Any ideas? should I return/exchange it? Thanks for any help.
here's me:
network is Tmo (happened in 2 different cities)
network status bars indicate good signal
data service continues to work ok (3g/4g)
stock, not rooted, phone is only 3 weeks old
still on 4.2.1
I've had this happen to me once don't know why though.

At first I suspected the light flow app because this happened right after installing the app. I thought maybe the app was messing with the notifications so I uninstalled it - but then problem happened again. Also, many people are using the app with no issues so i suspect my phones radio is at fault.
I think I'll RMA it. Thanks!
Crap, i just left Sprint after 11 years of service with them for the exact same reason. Started mid December and by mid Jan and several Network Trouble tickets they had no clue how to fix it and blamed it on network congestion. End of Jan i officially ported to TMO.. Hope this doesnt happen to me again..
I started a thread with similar problems, but I also loose data connection. I get a message on the notification bar about it.
In my case it only happens if I turn wifi on and leave HSPA running, so I have to switch to 2g only for the problem to disappear.
Called Tmobile and they have no clue what is causing the problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've used tmo for years and never had this problem before - only with the nexus 4 the last couple weeks. If this type of issue was more wide spread I think there would be more people complaining about missed calls/txt.
It sure makes me paranoid though. I am now calling my phone a couple times per day (from my work phone) and sending myself SMS messages just to be sure my phone is working.
I just updated to 4.2.2 so maybe that will help. If it happens again I'll exchange it.

What type of notification do you get? In my case there is no notificaion, the only way to tell if its happening is to place a test call or sms from another phone.
I do notice it occurs after heavy HSPA use but I havent been able to duplicate the problem. It's almost as if after heavy use of an HSPA channel the MSC location update is purged - so all calls go straight to voice mail and sms messages are queded in the SMSC (just a guess). Then after flight mode toggle or reboot location update occurs and all is good.
It happened again yesterday so I've gone ahead an ordered a replacement.
I get a triangle notice in the notification bar. And I narrow my problem with my location.
Did you ordered a new phone?

Which baseband are you on?
I was on the latest 4.2.2 update with the old .33 baseband and I couldn't make or receive calls. To be more specific, my phone was mute as the call was going through. I could not hear the ringing tone. So I flashed the new .48 baseband and it worked.
Well, what I experience sometimes is:
When I leave a WiFi connection, the phone (sometimes) wouldn't reconnect to mobile data (I can only receive calls atm). In order to reconnect it, I have to toggle airplane mode.
Kinda the opposite, but maybe the same solution can be proposed?
My temp solution is to switch to 2g only and turn on wifi. That seems to do the trick
As for baseband I'm rooted with stock rom 4.2.2 and CMW recovery

Hello all. So my rooted I337 stops making phone calls intermittently. It comes and goes completely by random. I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me. Nothing fixes it consistently. This happens across all the ROMs I've tried. Samsung tested all the hardware and said it was fine. T-Mobile confirmed it was not a network issue. I've flashed a number of different ROMs, SS 3.72 and 3.75, I've used the phone without putting ANY user apps on it at all, etc. I always get the same results eventually. I'm sort of at wit's end here. I've also attached a logcat (fist time doing one) if it's any help. I've also already got a new SIM card and changed the SIM tray (a pro did it) just in case to no avail. Thanks in advance.
I'm hoping someone knows the answer. My phone has similar issues. I have data and get normal text messages but my phone will not call out or can i receive calls. i did find a work around but not happy about it. if i dial *#*#4636*#*# then change radio from LTE/GSM Auto prl to GSM then calls data and text all work but at obviously slow speeds.
I337 OC3 rooted

Is your phone unlocked? If so is it unlocked by code from t-mobile or thru regionlockaway or similar method?
Changing the radio signal doesn't work for me, but I have noticed that the calls stop working when I turn off the dialing keypad tones. That being said, about a hundred other things can make the phone calls go silent, including, I suspect, installing Google Voice, Google Hangouts, or altering the ROM in literally any way.
Got my phone on Thursday. Everything has been fine. Have been making phone calls and using OK Google ever since.
Woke up this morning and called Verizon (using my GF's phone) to see if they could get HD Voice/VOLTE working. (I did not make any phone calls from my phone this morning so I can't say 100% that the microphone was working today). Tier 2 support asked me install the My Verizon App. Verizon Rep called my phone, HD calling showed up (but we didn't actually converse over my phone) and we finished up.
Tried to make a phone call from my phone and nothing can be heard coming from my end. Nothing through "OK Google". Nothing when making phone calls on Wi-fi through Google Hangouts.
I've factory reset. I've unrooted/locked bootloader. Gone 100% to stock using these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
It would seem as the microphone is dead or muted somewhere.
Is there something obvious that I'm overlooking?
Verizon screwed something up when setting up VOLTE? I would ask them to put it back to the other one and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, replace.

I pulled the SIM from the 6P and put it back into my Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 is working just fine. I'll put the SIM back in the 6P when I get home. Maybe do another factory reset without the SIM in and try OK Google and a Google Hangout call over WiFi.
Is there a possibility there is a setting somewhere in the phone that is not getting wiped when doing a factory reset? Could something have changed in say, the build.prop (for example), that has muted all of the microphones?
Not sure. I'm guessing they could have sent something to the phone. I think there is a dial thing you can do to toggle VOLTE on and off. Let me see if I can find it.

Enter the menu with the dial code and see if you can turn it back off.
I don't have a 6P yet but I had a similar problem with an LG phone. It turned out it was the Google app. I turned off the OK Google feature in settings and the mic began working again. It was fixed in a subsequent app update. Worth a shot.
Got my phone from Sprint, activated it Monday and I keep getting repeat texts. I've called them and had my network settings reset on their end, I've reset the network settings on my phone, updated profile and profile, rebooted phone, everything I can think of. I'm still getting texts, from multiple people/security codes.
Is there anything else I can do?
I am having a similar issue. Yesterday I wondered why my phone appeared to be a bit on the quiet side. Turns out I can send text out just fine, but receiving them has proven a problem...
I was able to get an MMS message from one person, and then a repeat SMS message sent before that MMS on their end, again, again, and again, (At least 30 times so far) every 5 minutes or so until about mid last night...
Today I tried to do a full reprovision which doesn't seem to have done much. I got that same text once again, and the one after it, but I am still not getting anything after that from them, or anyone else who may or may not have texted me....
Not good and I can't figure out if it's a Sprint or Phone issue. :/
I'll like to add on to this, I have experienced the same issue.
I'm on Sprint as well.
There was two days I didn't get any replies from texts I sent out, then when one of them called me all their texts all came in at once, those messages had the times for when they was originally sent.
Even the girlfriend is telling me to return the phone now.
In the past when I've had similar issues I usually texted myself to see if it would send. So on the last day I was having issues I did that, I got back my message, so I'm like okay it works. Then 5 minutes later I got the message again.
Sounds like some quirkiness of the phone working with Sprint's network. The only people I have heard have this issue are Sprint users. I'm on T-Mobile myself and everything works. I did however have to manually correct my APN settings in order to send/receive MMS with WiFi Calling enabled. Have you confirmed your APN settings are correct?
This happens on sprint regardless of the device. Every Android phone I've had since 2008

I think you are right. I didn't necessarily had this issue with every phone but it did happen with Moto X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P and now with Essential phone.
I've never had this issue before on any device on Sprint, and have had Sprint for a long time. Moto photon, HTC one a9, and now this. My wife has had Galaxy S5, note 3, s7, so with no issues
I have the complete opposite problem. I don't get texts for 1 to 2 hours after some one sends it. And I also don't get voicemail notifications. I don't know if I'm just missing something or what.
So, no ideas on how to fix? I've been on chat with Sprint 2x but didn't have time to finish the process. It takes 2+hours

The fix for it is pretty ridiculous but it seems to work:
Simply call someone and have it connect. For some reason this gets it to connect properly to the network. I'd guess it is a provisioning issue but who knows.
(Now if I can only get mobile data to work on all sites and not sporadically)
done that and its temporary, as soon as i get another text they all come in a flood

Guess it was Google voice that was causing the issue. Need to find a new voicemail app
I'm having the same problem I'll text someone but I won't get theirs back until I make a phone call I'm also on Sprint I was on the phone with tech support and told me to take the phone to the store to see if it was defective they ran a diognostic and everything came back good they said if it happens again to call customer service non of them know what to do

Do the online chat, that's where I had the best success. The people in store were 0 help.
Are you using Google voice? Try factory resetting and not using that app
No I'm not using it I did the tech support app they are the ones who sent me to the store
There are two fixes to this:
1. As mentioned previously you can place and connect a random call. The negative is that you need to redo it periodically per need.
2. Change your cellular network to not include LTE (CDMA/EvDo auto or the like) settings-->wireless & networks-->cellular networks
Method 2 also fixes some other cell data issues such as not being able to open certain sites.
The negative is very slow data speed <5Mbps since you are using 3G which is an older wireless standard.
A quick way to see if things are working is to do a speedtest, if there is no upload speed (quick bounce then zero) then something is wrong.
It appears to be a communication/handoff issue and not hardware related so I'd expect a fix to this reasonably soon.

I did that already. It's not the duplicate app notifications from gvoice and messages. It's multiple texts.
