When I create a new contact with Contacts LG app I noticed that the default recording location is Phone, which is potentially dangerous: once I fully wiped my phone and flashed a new rom. Then, after google sync, I discovered I had lost some contacts (which where previously saved into Phone and not into google account). That obliged me to restore the backup, export the phone contacts to google account, fully wipe and reflash the new rom.
Is there a way to make as recording location google account and not the phone?
up.
Anybody?

Has anyone else had problems lately synching their contacts? I wiped my phone the other day to load JFv1.41 and I backed up my contacts using MyBackup (from the Market.)
When I re-synched with google I got my contacts back but I noticed that none of them had images. I restored using MyBackup (it said it would overwrite any existing data.)
That was 3 days ago. After it synched the first time I had duplicate contacts on my phone so I removed the dupes. When I went to sync again it said syncing was having problems and I should try again. That was on the 25th and it hasn't synced since. I remember it saying there were too may deletions made (77 I think.)
Just now, I logged into gmail on the web and I had 8 contacts! (I have 107 on my phone.)
Not sure where to go next with this. Should I re-back up my contacts, re-associate my phone with my google account (with an empty contact list) restore the backup and re-sync?
sorry no issue here, mine sync up fine after the new JFv1.41
It was definitely due to the MyBackup program. Apparently they say to not use google sync and restore from their program (so what's the point?)
I removed all contacts on the phone, all contacts in gmail.com then restored from their backup. My contacts wound up in gmail but I still get the error in data synchronization!
I'll have to make some changes and try to force it again.
So, basically, dont use MyBackup to backup your contacts.

I'll probably have to wipe the phone and re-sign up with google to really fix it. Uhg.

correction dont restore your contacts, backing up is fine, especially if you want to switch gmail accounts
One should only use MyBackup to backup contacts if one isn't using a Google account. Otherwise, just use the built-in contact sync.
If you made the mistake, as I once did, of trying to use both then you just need to clear the contacts out of your G1 by dumping the data (http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f12/delete-limit-exceeded-10275/) -- not deleting them, as those deletes may then sync to your Gmail and delete the contacts there. Then you can just re-sync.
If they've gotten cleared out of Gmail then you're hosed.
Sorry if this is the forum for this. I finally transfered my phone contacts to google contacts. I went to vzw, exported to .csv, and imported to gmail. So far so good. I deleted mt contacts from my phone, and synced my google contacts. All good there. I accidentally deleted a couple of contacts off of my phone, but they are still in gmail. How do I get them back onto my phone. I know with backup assistant I can retrieve and resync them to the phone, but don't have the foggiest how to do it with gmail. Thanks for the help.

Q&A would of been better suited for general questions.

I tried that but it didn't add it back to the phone. I went back to gmail and it seems they were removed from there as well. Is that normal, if you remove it from the phone it also gets removed from gmail contacts list? How can I delete a contact from the phone without deleting it from gmail?
Login to gmail from your pc, you can choose which you want to sync or make a list.

I have just signed out and cleared the data for FB for myTouch and also cleared my contacts and contacts data in an attempt to fix the contact photo's not showing up on SMS. (found this fix in a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844594&page=182)
Anyway my question is, now that all my contacts have been deleted, if I press the "sync now" under Tmobile account on my phone is this going to d/l all my contacts from the online phonebook at my.tmobile.com or is this going to transfer the non existent contacts from my phone to my online phone book essentially deleting what's already stored?
Hope that question wasn't too complicated.
Short version: Will syncing from my phone delete or download the contacts saved at my.tmobile.com?
It should just commit the first sync and pull down everything, much like it would do for a new handset.
I have updated my phone to ICS and i used sprite backup to restore the contacts which works fine. After restart all but 2 contacts disappear but the texts and all the calls made are still there. If i use sprite to restore contacts they are there again. But after restart they disappear, i have tried 2 different ICS roms and have the same issue.
Turn off contact sync with your gmail account (and check your contacts on it with your browser on PC...maybe there is something messed up) and try again...should solve your issue.
i skipped setup of google when i installed the rom, i personally do not use my google account on my android phones
I have the same problem. I think it is from the rom. Ifter i sync everything is back to normal. Maybe the problem is when if it can`t get connection and can`t sync normaly its clearing the contacts and the call history.
Whenever i flash a new rom Google automatically restores my contacts. Over time i have noticed that there are duplicate contacts. In fact each contact keeps adding more and more duplicate. I want to know how i can go and edit all those contacts so in the future i don't see all those duplicate and only see what i want. The other option would be to have Google not restore them. I have tried to go into settings and disable auto sinc when i flash a new rom but somehow after a few hours or a few days all the duplicate come back. I always export my contacts to my sd card and i would really just like to use that to restore. But again somehow when i restore the contacts from the sd card Google also restores them and i have tons of duplicate. I don't mind using Google to restore just in case one day my phone dies and i don't have a back up in my sd card. But i really have to find a way to go into Google and fix the back up they have.

You need to log into your google account from a computer and edit your contacts from there...also, when you go into your phone settings>accounts & sync, click on the email account that has all your contacts and it will give you a list of options of what you want synced, like contacts, mail, calender, etc. Uncheck contacts. This way you can still have auto sync on. Also when you are in your contacts app, there is a way to manage where your contact info is pulled from i.e. sim card, google account, phone, etc... again, select just the one place you want them imported from or merge the contacts if they are coming from multiple places.
In the end, though, the best thing for me was to spend the time to clean up my google account contacts so I could access the information from anywhere, on any phone, computer, etc. Then you don't have to worry about your sim or sd card crapping out, or losing/accidentally deleting a backup, etc.
