It's gone on long enough - Need help
I have a Sprint SPH-L720, unlocked and rooted (versions below) and, when using the phone and I want to end a call, nothing happens - if the other person hangs up, I'm fine, but if I make a call and get a voicemail, I have to quickly reboot my phone since my red "End Call" button does nothing... tapping it like a madman has no effect - the screen shows the button being pressed visually, so it doesn't seem to be a phantom screen lock issue.
I did fiddle with the modem/radio updates, since I am overseas with the phone to get it to work with an unlocked SIM - everything on the phone works fantastic - just the damn "End Call" button which is kind of important...
Using a different ROM and going back to a Stock restore has no effect, so it leads me to believe it's a modem/radio/baseband issue or something.
Let me know what you think!
Details:
Android Version: 4.4.2
Baseband Version: L720VPUAMDC
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-cyanogenmod (Sun Apr 20 2014)
Cyanogenmod version: 11-20140420-NIGHTLY-jflte
Thanks!

Can you receive calls. I have a similar problem, only I can not end calls or receive calls because I'm not a on stock rom. I'm on unlocked sph-l720 on AT&T. If i revert to stock it works fine, but when I flash a rom, any rom, i can't receive or end calls. Curious what the problem might be, on the latest radio firmware. Curenttly on SOKP 4.4.4, but like I said, any rom will do the same thing unless it is stock.

Have you used the call setting for answering/ending calls and use power button to end call? Never had the issue just offering a temp fix

I have tried several versions of these roms and whenever I have tried them - i experienced the exact problems that you are describing. Only on stock based roms, for example acheron's super S4 rom, have I had any success.
It's a software issue.
I am wondering though, as not everyone seems to have this problem, if it is a "missing modem" issue. I have read in other threads that the modems have to be flashed successively. Perhaps by re-installing the modems properly it would fix the problem.
same problem, no fix
I have 2 s4 L720 and flashed with Miui 4.9.19 on both phone and both phone has similar problem, can't hang up call, everything else seen to work, haven't fully tested since I can't even use the rom without hanging up call function. Tried to flash back to stock and it go back to normal. Please if anyone has a solution, please post it. I tried it on NG2 and NAE modem, both give the same result. Both phone are sprint and unlocked to use on GSM T-mobile.
If anyone is still having issues with this, just follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539794
I'm doing that right now using the CyanogenMod Rom cm-11-20140217-NIGHTLY and hopefully this fixes the call problem.

When Issue Started: 1 week prior
User's Phone:

Issue: User cannot call me. It rings once and then disconnects. User can call any other T-Mobile phone in my area. I have no other issues calling or receiving
-----
Troubleshooting steps that have been performed:
...Turn off both phones for 2 hours - fail
...Take out SIM card and put back in - fail
...Kill any call forwarding on phones - fail
...User goes to AT&T store and receives new SIM card and phone - fail
...Checked for possible billing issues or blocked (banned) numbers - fail
...Wiped back to factory defaults (with the original ROM included that had the telnet vuln) and followed the steps to upgrade back to the latest version of CyanogenMod rom - fail
* Fail means it did not successfully resolve the issue of me not being able to receive the user's call
Anymore troubleshooting suggestions?
Maybe the att user cant call tmobile users or their phone is messed up?

Topic is fine and is defiantly not filled with any misconceptions:
dilemma - is a problem offering at least two solutions or possibilities, of which none are practically acceptable.
I would try another rom. As recently as yesterday my friend had a problem with his hero (CDMA) where he was unable to sent a text message to his girl friend. I fixed it by rooting and installing a custom rom.
First, I would unroot and get the tmo OTA update and see if it works (you could also try the custom stock rom with root here if you don't want to.
Second, try a different rom and make sure you don't install any applications.
Third, what SPL do you have, and radio for that matter.
Upgrade to the 26I radio in my sig to make sure it isn't something that easy. Remember, if you flash the nbh file it will downgrade your radio as well.
If all else fails, I would try the 1.33.2005 SPL, be sure you meet the requirements both board type and radio before flashing.
Hey Evilkorn,
Thanks for responding. Ace had posted that comment before I reworded the post. I will admit it was kind of confusion.
I am actually not sure of what I have other than CyanogenMod 4.2.12. Is there someplace I can go to find which version I have. If it would be easier to start from the beginning, as far as rooting and then updating everything from the factory defaults, I wouldn't mind. Time to me is not as important as getting the issue resolved.
I just saw on the homepage of Cyanogenmod.com that they released 4.2.13. Wonder if that would fix my issue. CM Updater isn't finding the ROM update yet so perhaps I should manually download and flash.
only thing I could suggest tell your friend to block the call (*67) and make sure that the caller isnt blacklisted, open the contact and select edit, make sure they arent checked to send call to voicemail
I went through the same thing a month ago, after it was all said and done...By mistake, I blacklisted the friend(which it turns out, can be easy to do if you have "fat fingers" when answering a call lol)
AT&T had thought the same thing. Actually, I just upgraded to 4.2.13 and it fixed my issue. There is a good chance that if I wiped ALT+W and then re-applied the previous .12 CyanogenMOD ROM that that could fixed my issue.
I never really though it was the ROM since I could get a hold of everyone else. How odd.
Thanks for all your help!
so I spent yesterday trying to get my bell Galaxy s4 unlocked so I can use it on rogers
when I got the phone I updated to 4.3 right away not knowing the issues it would give me
after trying long and various roms I decided to flash stock 4.2.2 thru odin
my phone went from 4.3 on i337vlluemk6 baseband to 4.2.2 on i337mvluamdj baseband
I was then left with a new issue....... I now couldn't enable wifi
so I flashed another rom and wifi was able to be enabled no problem(did not change baseband)
to my surprise I was able to unlock the phone successfully now using region lock away.
"VICTORY IS MINE!" I proclaimed
until I noticed something................I now have no sound coming out of my phone. I tried another rom and still no sound.....so I flashed stock thru odin once again. Again the wifi doesn't work and there's still no sound
anyone know what might cause this or how I can fix it? Phone isn't of much use to me if I can't hear it lo
Edit: thru scouring google I was finally able to find a solution on here. Apparently I just had to reflash stock 4.3 and it now works
another thing
even though the phone is unlocked I 'm not able to dial out on it
doing so caused the phone to lock up
this happens in stock as well as 2 roms I tried
the data connection works just fine and I'm able to browse the web with my LTE
I dunno if this helps anyone but if I go in to service mode I can't even select audio as an option.
It's there (number 5) but if I choose it it does nothing
Same issue
I have the exact same issue. I was trying to get to Google Play Edition which I have done many time before, but this time the baseband version changed. Now I also have no sound, so wifi and my phone is locking up when I make or receive calls. HEEELLLPPP!!!!
Hi,
When I was receiving a phone call only the vibration was working, no sounds, I couldn't slide the screen to answer properly, which means that I was able to slide, but the round icon of the slide could not catch the phone green icon. I could play no sound at all on videos, spotify, alarm, etc.
Currently settings about my phone:
Samsung S4 i9505 - 4.4.2
Baseband: i9505XXUFNBH
Bootloader: I9505XXUBMG4
Any fixes? People saying different things and really want a well explained correct answer. I've had previous problems and really just want to get this sorted

No worries Next time,If your flashing the latest modem flash only GSM modem . Not wifi fix/LTE or package combined, so you wont get any problem with your sound. Have a nice day .
...
absolutely no sounds & call function after flashing
Hello,
A few days ago I flashed my Galaxy S4 with the last cyanogenonmod using their flashing software. Then my phone was unlocked but I couldn't access the data internet from my new provider's sim card (3G).
Then I tried to reflash the original version to unlock the phone from the correct provider (Meteor Ireland).
Problem is that I am using Mac OS and have no access to a windows. So I used Heimdall 1.4.0.
From the begining, and I tried with many different ROMs, but I can never install the aboot partition. everything else flashes correctly. But now my phone network is working perfectly, except that I have absolutely no sound any more. The call application crashes, no alarm, no sound during boot, no videos that can be played and when I'm using the music app it says the format of the songs is not recognized.
I think the problem comes from the ABOOT partition missing, as I tried the other NON-HLOS as you said earlier. Sadly this GSM only version didn't fix the sound / calls and just deactivated my wifi.
I am a bit lost here, I was thinking about reinstalling a cyanogenonmod via heimdall to check if the aboot works there, because when I reinstalled cyanogenonmod via the software the issues weren't fixed.
Here is the detail of my phone, if someone can help me get through that I would really appreciate it :
SAMSUNG Galaxy S4 - GT-I9505
Region : Ireland
Provider : Meteor
Baseband version : I9505XXUENAA
Build number : JSS15J.I9505XXUENAA
Thank you very much
Hello everyone,
My friend bought a SGH-I337M off of Kijiji. He's unlocked it and activated AWS to work on WIND Mobile. He still has a couple problems though:
1. He cannot make phone calls
2. After sending an SMS, the phone will eventually crash to a SAMSUNG logo and reboot.
After the phone reboots, the phone will freeze and the prompt "The process system has crashed."
Now as I'm typing this, after a factory reset, the phone has crashed by itself to the SAMSUNG logo, without any interaction from me beyond the initial setup. Data on WIND does work.
He is on 4.4.2 and his baseband version is I337MVLUFNI2.
Kernel number is 3.4.0-2767305.
Build #KOT49H.I337MVLUFNI2.
SE is Enforcing.
Secure boot type is SAMSUNG.
I've only had experince flashing ROMs and such on a S2, and I've bricked an S3 by not knowing what I was doing and using Triangle Away, so I would like to avoid a repeat of that.
He still has stock recovery.
If someone could give me some links and maybe explain what I might need to do, the help will be most appreciated.
Since I wasn't sure what he had done, I started from scratch and flash CF-AutoRoot, then CWM, and then GoldenEye ROM, then the TLS-I337MVLUFNI2. This seems to have fixed the random crashing, however he cannot make calls. I can answer on my phone, but there is no audio, and his phone has no audio either.
Does anyone know what the problem might be at this point? We can't test any other carriers as I only have regular SIM cards. Could it be a mic problem? The phone is second hand.

Check here if you haven't already:

I flashed the SlimKat version 9 of 4.4.4 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9505), but since then whenever I make or receive a phone call, the screen goes blank and becomes inaccessible.
That prevents me from hanging up or doing anything else with the phone. I have to wait a good 10-15 seconds after the call is closed in order to access my phone back again.
The second issue I have noticed is that the data connection, 3G and LTE, gets disconnected when the phone is locked and unlocked quick enough.
How do I resolve this issue?
I have tried factory reset => re-flashing the ROM but it does not work.
Please help!

Nope. Where can I get it?
My Baseband is I9505XXUBMG4
Is there a reason that you are still on the 4.2.2 bootloader?
You can do two things:
A.
Read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50787570&postcount=2549
then pick a modem +wififixx from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50965837&postcount=2627
Pick a 4.4.2 modem (maybe you can also pick a lollipop modem but i'm not sure.. You have to look for it. Just paste the part in google and it will tell you what version it is (eg I9505XXUBMG4 = 4.2.2)
B.
Flash a kitkat/lollipop stock rom.

I flashed the I9505XXUGNE5 modem which is 4.4.2 as per the thread you mentioned above and the data connection issue is resolved.
BUT ... now I can't make phone calls ... I call someone or someone calls me, the whole screen goes blank and the person cannot hear me nor I can hear them.
I tried reflashing the modem again but it did not fix the issue.

[UPDATE]
I flashed the bootloader too and managed to get the sound back. so now data connection works great, phone calls work but the screen still goes blank when I call or receive a call ... lols
So it's pretty much the same issue but with the upgraded firmware version.

The easiest solution is to just flash the latest Lollipop firmware. Then you have everything up-to-date and matching bootloader + modem.
