recovering from brick using odin (advanced) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have my S4 which I love. I'm flashing it pretty regularly with new roms, kernels. It's of course rooted, and in a knox-fail state, but works great for me.
The i9505 uses the same tools as the old note 10.1 (albeit that being exynos, like the i9500). For those experienced in odin, and recovering froma bad flash I don't suppose any of you would be so kind as to check out my thread over on those forums - I have a brick I'm struggling to recover (emergency download mode, all odin flashes fail) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53170432. I suspect the same principles apply
Much obliged.

Have you tried flashing official firmware for 8010 in Odin whilst using the 8010 PIT file to repartition back to 8010 partition table?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app

Yes though I only had an old pit file and the later firmwares. Finding a known good combination of pit (elusive) and formats would be useful. Any suggestions?

Actually I'm going to try warranty return tonight I think...

Mobile Odin now Supports the Galaxy Tab 7.7

Mobile OdIn by Chainfire now has support for the P6800 and P6810. Just a heads up for P6800 and 6810 owners.. Let the mobile flashing begin..!

im noob for samsung, what is mobile odin?
Good news. Thx.
The problem is that it can't operate. It tells me that there is unexpected partition and shuts down. ):
I saw that too and contacted Chainfire and he resolved the issue.. there is a new build and it does not report any error on my device.. As always use @ your own risk..!
Will we be able to flash ROM's with CWM anytime soon ?
I'm used to that using my Note, ODIN seems more technical (need to know what ur doing)
So if some cook decided to build a custom ROM , would be be able to flash via (mobile) ODIN, and/or CWM?
Odin support since I bought my tab last week. Been using it already to flash Australia firmware ;-)

Assuming CWN works correctly you will be able to flash as soon as someone releases a rom.
As for Odin being to "technical", If you do NOT know how to use odin, then you should NOT be modding your device. Odin is a simple click, add the file, press start. How hard is that?
Not everything can be spoon fed.
Edit: Also why is this in development? Should be in general.
My sincere thanks to you for your first line, the answer.
The rest, well, it's a forum and It got a lot worse after 2008.

what do you do after mobile Odin has downloaded a dump file to make device compatable???
Chainfire has already done the work to make Mobile Odin work with P6800/6810. If you're using mobile odin lite, you need to download the flash kernel manually from chainfire's thread. The paid version from market should do this automatically.
i've tried both technic to flash mine.. mobile odin pro just made my device went to loop booting. then i used odin 1.85 rev. 3 for wwindows which made my device alive again..

Since it was updated to support the p6800 I have never used Odin on my laptops/desktops again, and haven't had any issues flashing from the device with mobile Odin. You should check to make sure everything is set correctly and you have the flash kernel loaded properly..

need stock rom for warrant

hey guys, vibration on my phone no longer works, need to go back for warranty.
I wonder where can I get the stock rom, Virgin Australia.
Thanks
Use checkfus downloader.

what's that?
What's the difference between that and Odin?
It's a program for finding the proper stock firmware for your phone and carrier. You download from there and then use Odin to flash I believe. I have found downloaded my firmware from it but I haven't needed to flash it as of yet. So haven't looked closely at files.

problem when flashing gs4 - odin stuck

hello, this is the first time i am posting on the forum so i dont know if the post is in the right place. i have a samsung galaxy s4 i9500 from mauritius. but it is infact a 4-core phone, i guess they modified it for distribution here. i download the pre-rooted rom from djembey for i9505 and tried to flash my mobile. the problem is that it gets stuck. At first it got stuck several times on setup connection but now it gets stuck at cache.img.ext4 and the phone will not even turn on. it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue and asks to recover using kies. can anyone here please help. i tried with different versions of odin and even changed my usb cable and tried on different usb ports.
my phone variant is i9500XXUAMDE
I think you are using the wrong firmware. You ideally should use i9500 not i9505. Both are different. Try using pre rooted i9500 or download the stock from sammobile and try flashing using odin

If you have an i9500 phone you should flash a i9500 firmware.
It's not that hard really.

Thinking of flashing, need a little advice

I just switched from a htc one(m7) to a tmobile sgs4.. Im a veteran to modding htc phones but new to samsung. My question is , what are the potential problems with flashing samsung devices, ive heard of people corrupting imei and having to repartition phones..this all makes me nervous. ..is this from simple flashing?

1. Root the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803 with Odin3.04
2. Flash Philz Touch recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367 with Odin 3.04
3. Backup EFS folder with Philz Touch http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-restorebackup-galaxy-s4-efs/ and store on the sdcard and pc.

This is one of the easiest phones to flash... I've had HTC before and they could be a mongrel...
As long as you read how to use ODIN, it is REALLY easy and there are good guides available in just about every samsung device forum, with pictures...
Most people have problems because they just jump in without reading or doing any research. Read the steps, Re-read the steps and then go for it once you think you have it. Just take it a step at a time and make sure you have everything you need 1st before stuffing around.
I still laugh at my mate who seeing how easy it was to flash a rom decided to put the new rom on his internal sd card then do a factory wipe to make sure the internal storage was completely reformatted clean. It took a while for him to work out that the rom on the internal sd card was wiped when he formatted the data partition and he was stuck for a few hours trying to work out where he went wrong... LOL...
Sweet thanks! How are people messing up ther partitions? Is it from flashing the wrong rom?

Using the wrong pit files mainly when flashing stock or wiping the sdcard.
So pit files are not included in the stock .tar file? You have to flash them sepratly

Does the EFS backup work for 1337M?
Don't flash the pit files... EVER..... You shouldn't need to flash them. This is where people stuff up and do stuff they don't understand. You only need to put the roms .tar file into PDA and flash... Just as a precaution though make sure "Re-partition" is UNTICKED...

What is bricking phones is people trying to flash custom recoveries on MF3. You can NOT do it, but people keep doing it.. despite the 10000 warnings on here.
OP. This is a development forum. Yes we know what that is, we know how to use it. I suggest you read the sticky threads in all sections if you are interested in anything with your phone. If not, do not attempt to do anything at all. You will more than likely end up with a really expensive paperweight.
Btw, that is the warning screen before you get to Odin mode. Odin is a flashing tool for Samsung devices used on a computer.

Anytime I reply to someone it is the answer they r looking for.I didn't use Odin to get this to pop up and didn't use Odin to fix it.I just wanted to know what pushing up would do .

Pushing up is how it goes to odin mode. Which at this time IF your on MF3 OTA firmware would be useless since there is no custom recovery anyways. So the ONLY thing for those on MF3 OTA firmware is if they were going into odin mode to flash the MF3 firmware again (for examole at the Samsung Experience inside BestBuys.
For those that have MDL or MDB firmwares then that is what you DO USE to get into odin mode (so that the odin application can be used to communicate and flash the phone to custom firmwares).
So LONG STORY SHORT Yes we have all pushed up and have seen it and installed custom firmwares (For those that have rooted and installed custom firmwares that is).
Also if you did push up the ohone goes into odin mode. It will not brick your phone. You can just hold the power button until it fully powers off and then restart the phone and your back to normal as nothibg wiuld be changed, flashed, or anything.

I used desktop Odin one time when I had my S2 I777 and never seen that screen.I flashed philz recovery and it wasn't auto loki'd on my I337 and got the triangle with unauthorized ATT msg.it wouldn't do nothing till the 4th time trying to get to recovery and that was what came up.
