[Q] Replacing ROM In My Stock Slot - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am currently running HyperDrive 8 in my stock slot. I would like to experiment with another ROM. How would I try another ROM in my stock slot? Could someone please direct me to a link that explains this or tell me the steps? I have SS 3.72 running.
Thanks!

You put a rom on your external sdcard, boot to safestrap, with your stock slot selected, you install the new rom to the stock slot. You can't have multiple ROMs installed with SS 3.72, the other rom slots don't work. So you'll overwrite your HyperDrive.

Thanks bigillz for the reply. I would assume I wipe the slot like we normally do before installing a new ROM right?
Have a good day.

yes, you flash into the stock slot using safestrap 3.72 following a full wipe. I suggest making a backup first. You can only flash kitkat roms while on 3.72 if you want to go back to JB, it is my understanding you need to odin back.

Correct, you cannot use any rom slot besides stock right now and yes you can restore a back up to your stock slot.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions appreciated

I think if you are usingSS v3.65 it only supports JB, and once you flash the KK update SS is no longer supported. At least that's the way I understood it.
I don't get the SS menu either.
I am not using 3.65. I have downloaded 3.72 which should work with 4.4

[Q] Graviton ROM S4 i337

I installed Graviton ROM for AT&T S4 using Safestrap but once everything finished, it went into a bootloop with a blue snake spinning endlessly with "Graviton" in the center. Anyone have any ideas?

Please provide more information.
- What bootloader do you have? Did you ever take NB1 OTA?
- What version of Graviton are you flashing?
- What version of safestrap do you have?
- If you are flashing kitkat version, are you following the Deadly Venom Tool?
The more information you provide, the easier it will be to assist.

Did you flash AT&TNB1KernelModules.zip (file present in the tool extract) along with the ROM? After the rom flash and before phone rebooted, did you put the phone in download mode and flash the NB1 ap/bl/cp files from the tool?
Also, only stock slot in safestrap works for kitkat.
If you have done all these, please provide the exact step by step operations you have done.

I'm running 4.4.2 ATT NB1 stock rooted rom. I have Safestrap 3.72 downloaded, and Graviton_S4_v3.0_20140502_SafeStrap.zip as well as the AT&TNB1KernelModules.zip. I reboot into recovery click install (on stock rom slot) and add the Graviton_S4_v3.0_20140502_SafeStrap and AT&TNB1KernerlModules zips and flash. After it fully successfully finished, I click home and boot into download mode where I flash the ap/bl/cp files from the Deadly Venom KitKat Magic Tool. It then reboots, and after the Samsung custom(with the lock), it fully goes black.

Did you wipe data anywhere in there? If not, do that. If you did, Gravitron does seem to take longer to boot first time than other ROMs so give it time.

I have been using this rom for a while on my att s4 . I recently checked out the eclipse rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351840) . Is there any way to add that in this rom? i tried to post the question in the rom devlopment post but couldn't. Any guide on how to do that?

There is a guide by didact74 in the VZW section, but I don't think that has been updated for KitKat. There are Xposed modules that do the same thing.

I checked his guide..... Those steps are far beyond my ability :crying: Most i can do is flash zip files and editing build prop
I tried his flashable zip file . That didnt work. I think that only works with stock rom. I tried xposed module . didnt work either :crying:
If it's not too much to ask. is there any chance you can make a flashable zip specific for your rom? :good::good::good:

You did not mention your phone firmware but based on your post, your firmware might be NB1 or NC1 since you said that you successfully installed the safestrap 3.72.
You did not mention which version of GE you flashed but I guess that might be GE28 or later. If you did, those roms are based on KitKat (android 4.4.2)
You flashed the hyperdrive15 which is written for jelly beam (android 4.3) based on the rom for the MK2 firmware.
GE rom installation for safestrap did not mention to install the rom in the different slot, so I guess you installed the GE rom in the stock slot.
Hyperdrive15 installation for safestrap mentioned to create/switch slot so you may or may not install the rom in the stock slot.
As far as I know, safestrap 3.72 does not support extra rom slot other than the stock rom slot. It appears that hyperdrive instructions were written for the safestrap 3.71.
May be that was your mistake.
My suggestion been odin the stock rom that corresponding to your firmware. Use tworl root to get rooted.

I do not know much about the Hyperdrive since I am a GE user. Also, Hyperdrive 17 mentioned that it would work for the ATT phone but 17 is posted only the Verizon forum.
For the ATT phone with NC1 firmware the steps for flashing the custom rom involves - 1)flash the rom, 2)flash the NC1 kernel module and 3) flash the supersu.
The correct compatibility pack might be referring to the kernel module, I guess. In that case, the pack for 15 might be written for the MK2 kernel module and it might not work with your NC1 firmware.

Trouble With SafeStrap

Hey guys I'm trying to flash a custom rom using safestrap but when I go to create a rom slot it says i only have 4mb free for internal storage but i have like 7 gb free. Can anyone explain how to fix?
Each rom slot is limited to 4 mb
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA Free mobile app
But the space to create a rom is greater than the free space
Ex: selected space: 5148 MB
Free space: 4 MB
Does this have anything to do with me not being able to create the ROM slot? Because the option is greyed out.

Yes to get most of the apps working, like Google chrome, you need to install it from the play store and set it to permissive
When i try flashing a rom it would install and i install the jflteatt-NB1-modules.zip but i always get the error about the software not being At&t. How do i fix this?
I wasn't aware we had a 3.75. I know Verison/Note 3 does. But, will that work? If it does then I think it supports rom slots.
If you are on 3.72 you have to uninstall it before installing 3.75. Don't have any roms in the slots.
You might need jflte modules. Not sure if that changed a long with the semi-new all variant jflte roms.

I'm on a NB1 build and I'm trying to flash omega ROM v36
I used towel root to root because I heard that was the only way for AT&T gs4 on 4.4.2
Gonna just throw some things out here as I have the early BL and don't need SS, so no hands on exp.
How did you root with towelroot? It is my understanding you need to upgrade to NC1, to root with towelroot. There are a couple other methods I don't remember.
Try an att rom like GoldenEye v38. iB's aroma lets you pick your phone and if you are on SS. The Omega rom may not work 100% on all att's
Your error is generally seen when not flashing the correct kernel. Maybe something in the Omega talexop kernel is not letting your phone boot.
If iB's rom doesn't work, you have done something wrong.
Read if you haven't this threads OP 3X's if you haven't
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
and maybe scan last 30 pages or so.
If things don't start working Odin back to NB1 and try again.
See post 5 in the OP I linked for instructions.
It does seem that whichever updates one takes or didn't take dictate how you root etc
You have to flash rom, correct modules, Super SU in correct order. Maybe some roms don't need SU. Selinux needs done properly too.
Again I am just brainstorming for you as I don't use SS.
And read back thru the link I posted and maybe the SS thread of Hashcodes in Dev section and see if you missed something--:good:
I think you need to be on SS 3.71--

[Q] Help with a custom rom, Note 3, 4.4.2, NC4, Verizon

So delete rom manager and download safestrap, then what roms will work with my phone? Almost all I find say only NC or 4.2 only
Stay away from roms that say [dev] in the title. Alliance, jasmine, and biggins seem to be most popular right now.

Get safestrap and flash nc2 kernel in Odin.
Flash a nc2 kernel and the ROM will boot is what TJF2012 means.
Sorry fell asleep. Yes download and install safestrap 3.75 b04. Flash the nc2/nc4 hybrid kernel via Odin. Download biggins delta jasmine alliance hyperdrive objective or eclipse ROM. Push to your SD card. Reboot to safestrap and wipe the stock slot. Then install your choice of the listed Roms. Reboot and enjoy.

ok, just to be sure I got this, flash the nc2/nc4 hybrid Kernal with Odin, (would anyone happens to have a link to that?), download rom of my choice, and put on SD card (dumb question, does it have to be an external SD card or can it be the internal phones?)
Then reboot to safestrap and clear the stock slot (does it have to be stock slot?) And the install rom to that slot?
Safestrap thread. Can use internal if you wish

The ones I listed. Our bootloaders are locked down which is why safestrap is our only option. Unless of course you can get a developer edition n3. Then you're game to play with aosp Roms. Eclipse is still touchwiz but heavily modified to look like aosp. Delta is themed nc4. Biggins (probably my favorite) is themed with some s5 ports. Jasmine is a full s5 ROM ported. Hyperdrive alliance and objective are all good too.

I'll try biggins first, so I have safestrap installed on my phone, I have to get the Kernal is the previous post on my computer, flash that to my phone using odin, and download biggins (before I flash?) And push to SD card (any guide on that or is it done on the computer?) Reboot in safe strap, is that just turning phone off and then holding power, home, and volume down? Wipe the stock (could this prevent from ever running stock again?) Then install biggins to stock slot? And just a normal reboot?
Oh man, so I was following the instructions on biggins, after I installed biggins on stock rom, it said to reboot, so i clicked that and my phone shut off, and now will not turn back on, did i totally brick it?
