[Q] will 4.4.3 solve the SD card issue? - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

So 4.4.3 is already released for nexus and some Samsung devices.
Wonder if there is any chance that it will fix SD card issue when it will appear on our tegra notes ?
I must say that even if I do not give the monkey about apps (since they can have the access to their folders only and if devs will prepare them for this apps should work just fine) I am mad at Google that it took my most used function of file management!
I have used my tablet to download and browse on the go my photos from slr now its impossible since my 64gb cards is useless in its slot.
As I understand NVIDIA could solve my biggest issue with KitKat just by addition ng any file browser into their ROM.
Hopefully they will do so fingers crossed.

SD card issue has been fixed now with the latest OTA 2.4 update.

I have just update my note but it seems that I still can't use any file manager to copy files from main memory to SD card. Could you confirm if you can move files and create and delete files and folders on SD card? If so which file manager are you using? I have tried solid explorer, ES3 and total Commander.

Again I tried to move some games to add card and ended up with same result as previously.

I don't have any issue moving to SD card after the latest update. I suggest you do a clean 4.4.2-2.4 install, including clearing all caches :good:

SD card is still not modifiable after the latest OTA (2.4). Fresh install done and same issue.
Rooting + SD Fix still works.

Vega 7 update
Just got the latest OTA update. Now a happy bunny. previous Kit Kat broke USB functions , now fully restored. Thanks Nvidea. Just hope SD functions back again ok

This means that tegra note is still not use for me will need to look for how to downgrade to 4.3 as KitKat seems to be nothing but problems. I was really hoping for file manager to be embedded into ROM (which would mitigate the issue -not resolve it) but it doesn't

If you have tried root + SD card write fixes already, maybe the following thread will be of some help to you?

There are also apps on google play that can fix the kitkat SD card issue.

No I haven't tried to root my device. Simply not really into this. I like my device to be useful right out of the box. And this was. It was my favourite tablet and it was working great as i wanted it but has been totally broken by KitKat and Google restriction.
Does downgrading to 4.3 require root? Will it void my guarantee?
Also the problem that I have what should be my next device? Since android is broken now, apple in my opinion has too many restrictions and its not worth it's price, Microsoft tablets are still too rough on the edges and lack of touch friendly apps. Aaaaah I'm doomed ;( nothing on the horizon to dream for ...

Going back to 4.3 is simples. If you have the Advent model see here: http://www.adventcomputers.co.uk/product-download-select/296
The same method can be used with another stock ROM though. This will not void your warranty.

Also check link mentioned at reply #9, especially last post. It might help. By the way what's wrong with rooting apart from taking a few minutes of your life?

Hi. I have read the discussion you pointed but my card is formatted in Fat32 and it was working perfectly fine before 4.4. Rooting will void the guarantee as far as I know. Therefore I am not so happy to do this. If there is an easy way to return to 4.3 as it has been advised above I will try to recover my data from the tablet over the weekend and give it a try. there is nothing in 4.4 which would give me any regrets for abandoning it.

[Q] SD Card issue after OTA kitkat update

Hey everyone,
I've been having issue where I cant download anything directly to my SD card. It occured after the 4.4 update. I get messages of insufficient space or download failed. I cant download pic, pdfs or videos. The only way I can save to SD is downloading to the device then moving it with the file manager. Any ideas?
Ive formatting the card a few times already.
Thanks

Hey Brian! This is a known issue. A quick search in this 4.4 update discussion thread of the in the Q&A section of the forum should've given you the answer. There's also a flashable fix in the development forum.
*Remember to search first before asking :good:
Thank you Kevin,
I did search the forums beforehand. Unfortunately all I could find were fixes for Rooted S4's. I received the official OTA two days ago. Would you happen to know where I could find a solution for my unrooted device?
Any help would be great.
Thanks!

Oh you're not rooted..well currently, I don't think there's any until Samsung realizes and pushes out a small update for the users not rooted.
You should root your device! Super simple process and a whole lot of benefits

It's not an issue, it is by design. Google wants you to use the cloud and not an sdcard to store data so they removed functionality of the sdcard with kit kat. Kind of like when they removed the ability to move apps to the sdcard after gingerbread. Hopefully Samsung will defy Google again and add functionality of the sdcard back in a future update like they did when they added the ability to move apps to the sdcard with mf9. But if you want to have it now you will need to root your phone.
Yeah that's tough not being rooted. I would be pissed a throwing a fit with Sprint. They've disabled a function of the phone. Seems like it could become a legal issue if the right people got involved.
All the more reason to root and live free.

Guys it's not a Smasung issue... It's GOOGLE that did it purposely. They are slowly trying to get rid of external SD cards for whatever reasons -__-

Reality is whoever is "at fault" ... you might as well sell me a 5 inch screen but only let me use 4 inches of it ... I purchased this phone because it has the sd card function. I might just call and complain to Sprint myself.

Sprint has nothing to do with it. IT IS GOOGLE!!!!!!!!! How many times does it have to be spelled out for you. GOOGLE wants you to use the cloud not the device. They want you to pay high data rates to use your content. Calling Sprint will do nothing, if you want to complain, flood Google with complaints about eliminating sdcard writing with Kit Kat! Or root you damn phone and fix it yourself.

[DEODEX][SGP311/312?] for 10.5.A.0.230 VMo UK IE

So, I wanted to do some tweaks, update some apps on my Tablet Z with KitKat.. As there were no deodexed ROMs based on KK, I made my own.
I used this ROM as a base: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767847 .Kudos to @najoor for the firmware
And used this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713329 . Kudos to RyokoN for the tool.
The whole process took me around 2 hours (extract, deodex, create zip, backup, install and let device "Optimize Applications").
As the title says, this is for the Xperia Tablet Z WiFi models ONLY. I'm almost sure it will work on the 32 Gb model (SGP312), butwith the 16 Gb one (SGP311) works perfect.
Download link: https://mega.co.nz/#!vghCgLZY!MrE8MZS5w8CWRUOFtJAIJvFzThFJMLlctAM2-pZAb5I
How to:
First, make sure you are running the above firmware.
Boot into your favorite device recovery, make a backup prior to installing this. Then, with the file on your device, choose Install Zip. Choose the deodex_install.zip and install. It should take one minute or two.
When it finishes, reboot your device and wait a few minutes and... Bam! You have a deodexed firmware.
Sorry for the VERY confusing thread. I'm just not well right now to write something better.
Cheers everyone
Thanks Dude.... Anyway This was working fine I dont know If there are differences (I cant test it because my SGP312 is on Technical Service)

Unfortunately I do not know anyone with modded Xperia Z Ultra
However based on searches it seems to me that what you must do is unlock the bootloader then use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426736 for the CWM needed for other custom ROMs
I saw some other threads too but this one seems to be most stable based on what I found

The main goal is to install a kernel with custom recovery of twrp or cwm. I was doing my best to search, but I couldn't really find anything newer. Right now I am from phone so I cannot really look into it further, I will later I think. I admit, having a download mode and stuff certainly makes the G note much more user friendly in this aspect.

As even the Z have the 4.4.4 Android,i think Sony is shaming their prev. Which features of 4.4 are you desperate for? I'd rather that any updates where done well rather than rushed just so we can have it. As for the defects, gaps don't matter as long as device integrity is maintained I haven't seen anyone suggesting they are affecting this? Uncentered camera again as long as it doesn’t affect function I couldn't care less.
I'll go out on a limb here and say maybe Sony's just waiting for Android 5 to update?

They most probably plan to update the z2 to the same 4.4.4 software on the recently unveiled z3 army. That's why it's later than the 4.4.4 software released for older devices. They wanted to showcase it with the z3. Hopefully it'll hit the z2 soon.
That would be bad news for Z1 and z1 compact users because the software on the z3 has improvements for the camera.

There will be but don't expect to much.
Deodex your firmware and install superuser MOD.
That's two mins task and you won't even notice you deodex it...
What you'll see is great new MODs and APPs.
On older device there were "problems" when you were deodexing firmware.
Simply, without dex files for system to cache process, many devices become slower after deodexing.
All that doesn't apply on devices strong like Z1/Z2/Z3.
So there's no reason for you not to deodex your firmware.
Especially if you are already rooted...
Why to stop there?

You're right, there is no, but I was happy with stock rom, only rooted cause its 10 secs job and to install some stuff that needs root,
I'm not very good when it comes to android, especially when it comes to deodexing and odexing. I know what's what, but there's lots of questions, for example which recovery should I use, can I delete recovery later on if I plan on selling it in favor to z3, and I suppose once I get deodex rom, ota updates are out of the question, right?

Once you root device you can forget on OTA (at least on stock, existenz have its own OTA).
It's very simple to deodex ROM.
Just check which firmware are you using.
Download deodex patch for that firmware and flash it from recovery.
Your data will stay intact and nothing will change (of course, don't wipe data from recovery after or before flashing deodex patch, cache and dalvik wipe is what you need to do after flashing.
You can remove recovery, root and restore dex files, that's not problem.
Simply flash stock ftf using flashtool or if you have problems with your device flash stock firmware using PC Companion (repair function) and everything will be "stock"
After that, take your sdCard out of device and delete XZDR folder and files (there's remover, tool from NUT, to remove recovery but you can do that this way as well)
If your carrier will check your device for warranty purpose, they could reject your device because it's rooted as well so deodexing isn't something that could make more problems.
It's up to you but there's only one way to use, system (signed), Z3 apps and/or apps from other devices.

Thank you very much mate, I forgot that I can have recovery even if I have locked bootloader, its uncommon for me since I've never have had Sony device before, I guess it's easy later to restore everything later if I need to claim warranty, but just one thing,
few days ago I did software repair via PC companion, after that I had root BUT w/o permission to write, just to read system files, how's that possible?
Thanks again for the big answer,
regards mate!
I'd prefer getting Android 5, rather than getting 4.4.4 update for my Z2. So, if I'm waiting to get Android 5, it's all good.

Hmm...that shouldn't be the case after you root device.
Did you updated supersu binaries?
Download this and flash through recovery
https://app.box.com/s/knwvu1jfzs1vec9n6vr0
That will update supersu binaries.
Then try...
Sure, no problem, I'm glad if I helped..

Should I upgrade to lollipop? Mine is still on kitkat

When I got the phone, I rooted it, put xposed on it and all that, and I froze the system update. I recall that people didn't like the lollipop firmware for this phone. Is that still the same? Do people still hate it? Or is it worth upgrading to? It would be nice to have the priority modes in lollipop but I don't want a slower, worse performing, worse battery life phone.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Lollipop is better, because on latest . 236 you can install many mods, and I prefer lollipop ui. But on kitkat(.157) battery life is better, higher performance and stability. Your choice

I'm with @CmDaRkShAdOw. If I was to stay on KK, it would be to use CM11, or other custom ROM. For stock, latest update is best. If you want stock-based custom, @munjeni's .108 KK, or @dstrikersZ1's .236 LP is the way to go.
