Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this stuff so please bare with me. I did look around the threads for something similar but was only able to find it for other devices. Anyways, I'm currently at version 4.3 (root), I'd like to know how I can update to the latest software 4.4.2 and keep my phone rooted, or if I have too how I can re-root. Thanks

You need to do a lot of reading. Look for the pinned threads in the general forum. Also, on your phone got to settings, about phone and look at the last three characters of your baseband. That will tell you for firmware version.
Don't try to root it into you do all of this

If your phone is on 4.3 than you won't be able to be on mf3 because mf3 is 4.2.2 check what build you have go to
settings

and scroll down to build number and see what it says. If the last 3 is mj6 or mj9?

What are you on? You can still root with vroot but be aware vroot has been stated as malicious. BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU READ, FAMILARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE PHONE THAN RE-READ SINCE YOUR A NEWB!

This is most likely why the original owner sold it. You won't be able to install custom roms until a exploit is found or Safestrap gets 4.3 support. As for root there is a few methods but they are untrustworthy and not allowed on XDA. Best to what for a safe root method...

Damn it. Alright thank you
currently I am outside us i want NC1 Frimware to upgrade with out rooting my device
ٍSorry i but it on wrong place i want to move it to question sections i am sorry for that
The NC1 update is provided by your carrier. You should just be able to do a check for updates on your device and it'll find it. Please know that it's a very recent update and not much is known about how it affects custom ROMs or the rooting process. I updated to it and I'm waiting to see what the experts here say.

There was another thread I posted this to but for some reason the OP wanted the thread deleted.

I honestly do not trust the update and I will explain. I believe the update was pushed to prevent us, the custom ROM users, from downgrading back to mf3. We all know that in mf3 there is an exploit where we can change the kernel inside the memory or something like that. I am rooted on nb1 and am running a bootloader that lets me downgrade back to mf3. It would make sense to me that they are trying to prevent that exploit. I know they probably fix a stability issue or something but I would not flash to nc1 if you don't want custom roms here in the near future.

We could never downgrade to mf3, only a partial downgrade to MK2 from nb1. And jeboo already said the nc1 bootloader does not increment the q fuse counter so you can still go back to nb1 if you want...

On top of that, the exploit is at the kernel level. We can still get the MK2 kernel so we can still get the exploit. That's why bypasslkm still works on the downgrade.

I was Odining back to stock MK2 and after it was finished I set it up then went outside real quick. Came back and phone said it was updated to this NC1 firmware and this happens when looks like potential progress on the "serious about unlocking bootloader" thread f u ATT.

Don't worry, chances are exploits will function still if one is found, and if Hashcode implements kexec you'll still be fine.

I think you should be able to connect through a proxy and download the update over wifi that way. Note that the update will only work over WiFi... not mobile data. I hope you get it worked out.

I recently updated to 4.4.2 KitKat on my AT&T Galaxy S4. I am rooted with safestrap installed. I am new to Androids and I was wondering if there were any roms available for baseband I337UCUFNB1, I found GoldenEye but it won't work on my baseband without a certain file being flashed through Odin first, every link I have come across to download this file ends up saying file not found. Are there any safe roms out there that I can use? I've searched all over and found some, but it's just kind of confusing to me. Thanks in advance!

Yea i've been there, I'm just really confused on the whole process is all. It says something about going from NB1 to NC1, but the roms it lists aren't for either one of those basebands but it still says they'll work. I don't know if I want to risk it lol

You're not going to brick your device. You may have to Odin back to nb1 in the worst case. Do the ota to nc1 and root with towel root. Then use safestrap.

Hi all, Does the kernal change from NC1 to NJ4 during the update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4? Just wondering, as I'd like to flash the Touchwiz Rom based on the 4.4.4 platform.
Thanks,
K
I would suggest Odining to NB1 and stay there since 4.4.2 roms don't play so nice with 4.4.4 Yes the kernel will change. If you really want to update, READ THE INDEX. Sorry to say this, but you should search first before and then after, if you haven't found your answer, ask questions. Also, wrong section :/
PLEASE MOVE THREAD TO Q&A SECTION MODERATORS.

Thanks for the reply, but since AT&T's i337 has been updated to 4.4.4, I was considering moving to one of the custom TouchWiz ROMS (4.4.4) following a stock update from my current custom ROM. Therefore, I would not be moving from a custom 4.4.2 to a custom 4.4.4. I HAVE read the forums, thanks.
As an aside,I appreciate the advice, but, based on the title of the forum, I thought my question was correctly placed.
Please excuse these (probably) common questions. I have a rooted SGH-I337 running NC1 firmware, currently with Safestrap installed (stock otherwise). I'm interested in unlocking the bootloader if a method has been developed yet for this firmware.
If not, how can I install OTA updates? I don't need an in-depth explanation if there's already a thread on this -- just a link will do. My searches weren't coming up with anything definitive.
Finally, has anyone been able to install Lollipop from this setup? If so, a link would be awesome.
Thanks everyone, and my apologies for the ridiculous questions that I am sure are common around here.

Yes, they are common. You can not unlock the bootloader. If and when an ota comes out you're most likely going to have to flash the nb1 tar file and return to stock before the ota will work. Lollipop is not out for the i337 yet. They're are some custom Roms but they don't work in safestrap.
