Please excuse these (probably) common questions. I have a rooted SGH-I337 running NC1 firmware, currently with Safestrap installed (stock otherwise). I'm interested in unlocking the bootloader if a method has been developed yet for this firmware.
If not, how can I install OTA updates? I don't need an in-depth explanation if there's already a thread on this -- just a link will do. My searches weren't coming up with anything definitive.
Finally, has anyone been able to install Lollipop from this setup? If so, a link would be awesome.
Thanks everyone, and my apologies for the ridiculous questions that I am sure are common around here.

Yes, they are common. You can not unlock the bootloader. If and when an ota comes out you're most likely going to have to flash the nb1 tar file and return to stock before the ota will work. Lollipop is not out for the i337 yet. They're are some custom Roms but they don't work in safestrap.

Hello everyone
I am looking to root and install a custom ROM on my AT&T S4 SGH-i337 (MF3) phone. The whole process is confusing... I see one video saying this and another saying that. I finally found a site to root my phone but the loki recovery step says "loki aboot version does not match device" while using Terminal emulator. I wanted to install the FOXHOUND ROM or something similar. I just wish someone had ONE place to get the correct information for your specific phone.
The link below is where I found out how to root my S4.

If your phone came with MF3 already then I'm afraid you can't flash Custom Roms yet since the bootloader is locked my friend.

I would highly recommend you stop everything you're doing and put some time into reading up about MF3. You are likely to bork your phone if you continue. Cheers

As the others mentioned, you should read up more on MF3, and stop trying to do anything to it. MF3 is the firmware version AT&T pushed out after the Loki exploit was released, and with it they patched the exploit.
From this point, you have a couple options:
1. Root using this method, and then use Xposed mods to customize your stock rom.
2. Follow this thread closely, and wait for Hashcode to release a working version.
Oh, and get your information only from this site. Don't go to galaxys4root.

For now there's nothing you can do till someone unlocks the bootloader you can use the MOD WanamXposed.1.4.2 look it up in playstore make sure if you use it to install
first XposedInstaller_2.1.4 then WanamXposed.1.4.2 that's if your wanting to custimize the stock rom a bit, Read the instructions in playstore for WanamXposed.1.4.2

From what I see is you have 2 options.
Option 1: Keep your phone rooted and don't mess anything up. So you have to be very careful while rooted and not mess with the system files.
Option 2: Check this thread out as someone was able to reflash their galaxy s4 on mf3 at Best Buy' Samsung Kiosk:

Slightly offtopic but I notice Hascode is working on Verizon's S4. How will Hascode's version be compatible with AT&T? Is it mainly because both verizon & at&t have a similar locked bootloader?

At this point, there's no harm in installing the Xposed Framework, and using Wanam Xposed. There are a lot of cool tweaks in there, and the only requirement is root, which you already have.

In Hashcode's OP, he says that he is developing SafeStrap for "the locked versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4." I assume that means both Verizon and AT&T.
Pick up a s4 today that is on mf3. But i dont think it came shipped with mf3. I duno if this has been asked but can i downgrade it sense it wasnt shipped with mf3?
1) Are there any developers still attempting on finding a way for a custom recovery on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 MF3 firmware? I know there is a custom recovery alternative, Safestrap, but I am talking about CWM and TWRP.
2) Will the users that soft-bricked their phone still have the problems once the new update for 4.3 comes out? Or will everything be normal again?
I've been searching for the answers for these questions for a bit now and just wanted to ask the community myself. Thanks for the responses in advance :good:

There won't be any custom recoveries besides SafeStrap yet because the MF3 firmware update patches the bootloader, to which there is currently no unlock method. In other words, no, until someone unlocks the bootloader.
If you're soft-bricked on an MF3 build then this should help you get back to factory stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502003
Not to be a ****, but this info is easily obtainable just by reading the stickies in this and the General forum.

The NC1 update is provided by your carrier. You should just be able to do a check for updates on your device and it'll find it. Please know that it's a very recent update and not much is known about how it affects custom ROMs or the rooting process. I updated to it and I'm waiting to see what the experts here say.

I honestly do not trust the update and I will explain. I believe the update was pushed to prevent us, the custom ROM users, from downgrading back to mf3. We all know that in mf3 there is an exploit where we can change the kernel inside the memory or something like that. I am rooted on nb1 and am running a bootloader that lets me downgrade back to mf3. It would make sense to me that they are trying to prevent that exploit. I know they probably fix a stability issue or something but I would not flash to nc1 if you don't want custom roms here in the near future.

We could never downgrade to mf3, only a partial downgrade to MK2 from nb1. And jeboo already said the nc1 bootloader does not increment the q fuse counter so you can still go back to nb1 if you want...

On top of that, the exploit is at the kernel level. We can still get the MK2 kernel so we can still get the exploit. That's why bypasslkm still works on the downgrade.

Don't worry, chances are exploits will function still if one is found, and if Hashcode implements kexec you'll still be fine.

I think you should be able to connect through a proxy and download the update over wifi that way. Note that the update will only work over WiFi... not mobile data. I hope you get it worked out.

Thanks, I managed to get my phone back to stock 4.3 then update it.
Hi all, I am fairly new to this whole rooting process for android devices, since i have just recently purchased a galaxy s4 from at&t. Just a few days ago, i've decided to root my device, and after hours of researching i came across geohot's towelroot program and successfully rooted my GS4!. Now i want to install a custom rom, and i would like to know what kind of custom recovery can i use? and am i able to install the cyanogenmod 11? I have downloaded the cyanogenmod installer and it says my device is not supported, but i read on their wiki that i can install it manually but i don't know if my current build is supported by Clockworkmod, or even TWRP for that matter. I havn't flashed any roms by the way and i don't plan on doing so until i am almost certain that i can flash it without bricking.
I am running kitkat 4.4.2 Samsung SGH-I337, my baseband/build number is I337UCUFNC1
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!
We have a locked bootloader. So, stock kernel and recovery cannot be replaced. The only recovery we have is safestrap.

Ahh that sucks thanks for the info. Hopefully they will find a way to unlock it in the future so I can install the cyanogenmod.
