Broke my WIFI (SPH-L720T) SOLVED - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have a SPH-L720T
A few months ago I rooted using CF-Auto-Root and everything was working fine. I made no other changes.
Last night I tried to update the phone using Kies so I could start using the WIFI calling. It seemed to update fine and started up but the WIFI was off. Now it cannot be turned on. Slide the switch to ON and it immediately switches back to OFF. I eventually did a factory reset on the phone but that did not resolve the problem. But it did start showing a message when I try to turn on WIFI that security software has disallowed the action. I went into SuperSU and it asked to turn of Knox. I did that. Now the message doesn't come up any more but WIFI still can't be turned on.
Can anyone offer any advice on what I should do next?

Odin the latest tar file (locate it yourself and if you don't know how to use Odin there are plenty of threads and posts on how to). And perform another factory reset.

Agree with this one. Odin to NC6. If you really wanted, ODIN back to NAF, see if Wifi works, then ODIN to NC6, and if wifi still works, re-root with CFAutoRoot

Thanks for the replies. Downloading NC6. Fingers crossed.

That did the trick without the need for another factory reset. Again I appreciate the help. Thank you.

I suggest you put "solved" in the title of the thread so when someone in the future runs into the same problem they know where to find the answer.

had everything to do with it..dont care if he just got it or not he was in a setup wizard boot loop like many people found them selfs in after rooting and removing something they shouldnt of only fix for that is to use kies like in that thread or get the stock image and odin it like the op did to fix it
Op. Did u try to root?
Someone probably rooted and messed it up...since 8t still got to the set up screen and appears to work he probably figures hed sell it to some sucker. Unfortunately this op probably bought it...amd there really wasnt much of a way for him to know it was messed with since setup still popped up
Just my theory...always make sure a device works when buying used...go through the setup, test all the main features. ..spend a good 10 minutes atleast with the phone before you actually give the guy money...and if your buying online like on ebay...good luck

WiFi Not working after MDL update

Hi. It may just be coincidence. I rooted yesterday everything was fine afterwards. I started looking into updating to MDL since I didn't take the OTA update before root.
I updated via Odin on pc but hadn't noticed that my wifi had turned off until about a hour after.
Its thru the bar and the settings. It will NOT let me switch it to the ON position.
Thinking maybe I am going to need to unroot. Take update ota . Then root again...
I screwed up somewhere since I've seen no body else seeming to have this problem. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
J
Note: I was getting the SEANDROID notification after mdl update to which I went and froze in TiB

Just factory reset in stock recovery then go straight to download mode and odin back to mdl, it happened to me before something stays behind and causes issues mine was bc of kernel didnt fully overwrite in odin.

Flash the updated kernel that's IN Crawrj's thread. You don't need to freeze the Seadroid app anymore. Newest update to SU fixed that issue, so open up SU and you'll get the popup to update the binaries. Good to go
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
Just flash a new kernel, be it stock or custom, you'll be alright afterwards

Wow. I love you guys. . That worked. Thank you so much.
I did open SU but it didn't prompt me to update binaries though but I have my WiFi back.
I'll be sleeping better tonight.

[Q] 4.3 update frozen on Odin screen

I downloaded the official OTA update. When I went to install it the phone needed to reboot and now I've been stuck looking at the Green Android screen saying Downloading... Do not turn off target!!! and in very small writing could not do normal boot, Odin mode. I am rooted. Please help
What version is the phone? I'm reading up on things in preparation of updating myself. I'm on MF3 and for what I've read I need to Odin back to stock before updating since I'm rooted. This may not be your case figured I'd toss it out there.
brought to you by my not so sexy GS4 MF3

Same with me. I'm stuck at the emergency firmware recovery screen. My phone was at 4.2 and it did the OTA to 4.3.3 and froze. What do I need to do to go back to stock rom?

You i think you should use Kies to go back they actually have a feature for that. Mine won't even be recognized by the computer or anything.

Any way today I installed my nandroid back up of stock ROM 4.2 Att gs4 sgh 1337 let it boot up any settle in 10 min..when I looked at phone I saw the Att redwhite arrows in task bar I quick shut down WiFi and now under settings status it says update continue or something .now my back up is mdb never ota before. so is this update mf3 the one u that is bootlocked or is it the 4.3 update?? I read some were Att was to start with 4.3 update yesterday what u guys think I should do? Thanks in advance ..

Ok I am going to try to go back to stock by using a firmware DL and Odin v3.07 If it works I will tell everyone. If not I may be screwed.
I'm currently on MF3 and had rooted my device previously and would like to upgrade to the new OTA. Would someone be so kind to link me to ODIN and the stock file,so I may return to stock and apply the OTA.
Thank you,
Did anyone go to recovery and factory reset?

I'd recommend it but it's to late for me.
This worked for me to unroot.
To unroot, try this. It worked for me. I'm back to "official". However, I've downloaded 4.3 like 5 times already. I can download 100%, but when it reboots to install it stops at 30% then says update failed.

Same exact problem!
wading through threads for answer!
Ok I have my phone working again. I am not on 4.3 but its back to where it was before I started, which is better than nothing. After running Odin once and it failing like it always does (I have never seen it work) I was able to get the holding down volume, home and power button option to work and I just said no and to reboot and it worked. I then went into SuperSU app and unrooted. I will try to update to 4.3 at a later time. I am glad I wasn't the only one having issues. I usually pride myself on knowing technology and being able to figure it out.

I had the same problem. The only way I was finally able to upgrade to 4.3 was to use Odin to revert to stock (unrooted) 4.2.2 MF3 using the files on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502003 Once I did that I ran the OTA update to 4.3 and it worked without any problems.
So if I oden to stock again don't root Then hit the update it should go? Weird thing is I installed my back up today and it a stock backup fresh rich from a oden wipe and it stared DL on its own before I stopped it with killing WiFi. I s this 4.3 update or is it mf3 since I never did that update. ..help. Thanks

Take it to Best Buy. "Kies broke your phone" *wink*wink* and they can flash it back to stock without messing up your data. You can do it yourself. Plus they have this mysterious awesome SMART tool. Lol

Use the link in my previous post (post #13). That has the files and procedures for using Odin to get back to stock 4.2.2 and then you can do the OTA upgrade from there.

Rooted and OTA 4.3, factory reset?

***update 12/8/13***
My issues were resolved by the following changes:
1st issue: audio/video streaming not working over wifi
Solution: uncheck auto network switching under advanced wifi settings
2nd issue: unable to update PRL or Profile (session in progress, please try again later)
Solution: in Titatium Backup, unfreeze Samsung DM Service
I hope this will help others that may find themselves in the same situation I was in.

Running stock, re-rooted after ota 4.3. So many problems since ota update I'm at wits end. I actually like the stock and touchwiz, but this update has needed up so much. Wifi issues, no video over WiFi, no Pandora over WiFi, no Vine period. No YouTube over WiFi, can't update PRL or Profile.
My question: is it safe to try a factory reset at this point?
I so wish I could revert back to pre 4.3 and mja, but know that's not possible. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Dont factory reset while being stock rooted. Just odin back to mja. The do a factory reset.

Sorry I want more clear in my original post. I already have mja from the ota update.
I'm just wanting to fix my issues related to the update, ie the Wi-Fi issues and inability to update PRL or Profile. I was wondering if possibly doing a reset might clear these issues up, and if so, is it safe to do now or will it screw something up.
Thanks for any advice

What he was saying, is something is messed up with your install and it is better to clean slate it. First, a factory reset only wipes data from the phone and nothing else, so that is not going to do much. What you need to do is download the full MJA tar file and install it, then do a factory reset in recovery. By installing the full tar file, you will be reinstalling the modem, firmware, kernel and rom in one sweep. This should fix whatever the ota screwed up when it installed. By doing a factory reset after and maybe before also, it will clear out any app or left over garbage that might be on your phone causing the problems in the first place. You can find the full tar on sammobile or pm me and I'll send you a link to my dropbox.
Thank you very much for that clarification! I'm a little slow at this, but learning. In the short term, I fixed my wifi issues by disabling the autoswitch function. Still no PRL or Profile updates though. I'll try the above steps and post follow up. Matt have to be tomorrow when I have more time though.
Thanks guys!

Knox after restore

I restored my galaxy back to stock with Odin and now I'm getting constant Knox pop ups. Anyone know the fix to make this go away so I can give the phone to my wife to use unrooted?
Thanks in advance for your help
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also, if I try and install the Knox app, it says it can't be installed because I previously installed a custom os
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Last thing, it's showing custom rom in the download screen. It's not showing Knox 0x1. So Knox wasn't tripped.

There's a real easy fix if you're rooted...
What does the pop-up even say, you never explained
I think I solved the problem. I changed the file system to art and then back to dalvik. The lock and custom are gone on boot up now. Now I just gotta figure out why when trying to update, it says that the update service is temporarily unavailable.
Does your baseband and build number match? What did you flash?
I was rooted on NI2. Restored to stock NI2. Had the custom message with the padlock icon on startup. Finally changing to art and back to dalvik made the padlock go away.

You could Odin the build you wanted to update to. Did you connect with kies?
I didn't connect with kies. I used standard Samsung drivers and Odin.

Some people connect to kies to get their updates. Just thought that might be worth trying.
Hadn't thought about that. Will remote into my home computer and get that installed so I can try that this evening. Thanks for the idea.

Here is someone with the same problem. Seems like their answer was to flash the stock firmware.
