In the stock lg kk firmware, you can choose any video you have already recorded and send it through messaging. When you click on a video and share it through messenger, it says video to large, do you want to trim it to send. On all custom lg kk based roms (cloudy stock, cloudy flex, aeon flex), when you go to share a video through messenger, it says video to large and gives you no options to be able to send. Is there an apk that is missing in these roms that we could install?
If the video is too large for MMS you just can't send it through MMS, only through internet-based Messengers like WhatsApp and others that support sending video files. Your only possibility is to compress it way more (better not on smartphone, to much power/time consuming) like with H.256 (for the moment nothing can get videos better compressed without making quality worse) or you have to trim it. I don't think the limit is made by LG, it's made by the owner of the MMS system so I don't see any other way to bypass it.

I think you misinterpreted what i am asking or i worded things wrong. In the stock lg kk (att), if you select and video you have recorded and share through messenger, it says "video to large, do you want to trim it, you click yes, it trims the video(doesnt take long at all), and then allows you to send the video through messenger. In any custom stock lg kk, it does not give you the option to trim and send, it just says video to large.
ah, ok. Then I think there is something missing which was installed by att. Maybe they changed the messenger, maybe something else. Do you use a special att-version of the custom ROM? Maybe this only works with att ROMs. You could try to trim it yourself and maybe lower the quality a little bit, I think that's what att does (would be the easyest way). Which format/codec does the camera app use for the videos? Maybe you can ask the developer if there is a way to use a higher compression by default?

Im not as concerned with quality as i am with just having the feature to send pre-recorded videos through messenger while keeping it simple. I could be wrong but i cant imagine that this is an att feature. Can anyone else on a different carrier verify what happens on the stock lg kk firmware?

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this is turns out to be something really stupid and simple, but I've looked about for ages and can't seem to fix this problem...
I was looking on the tweaks page and decided to try the tweak to allow me access to the iplayer website. All worked well and I had no problems on the web page, but ever since I've done this ever website i seem to goto all the images now seem really grainy and poor. I've since changed back the "Custom User-Agent" field to what it was before, but this hasn't made any difference.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, or at least know a way to restore it to how it was before? Just hoping for a quick-fix rather than another hard-reset...
Many thanks in advance
Haven't you experimented with Opera Turbo too ? Since new Opera Turbo uses pretty high image compression. Opera Turbo can be turned on somewhere in opera:config on HD2.
Hmm not that i can see, the option is still unticked there so i don't think it's that... But i'll have a play about and post back what happens. Thanks though!
UPDATE: I've had another look and Turbo is turned off. I even tried loading up a page on Internet Explorer just to check I'm not just being fussy, but the image quality is much better on IE that Opera all of a sudden...
normally you can set the image quality in opera. there must be a setting somewhere that lets you select high/medium/low quality.

I agree, and I'm glad someone's raised this. It's one of those things that makes me think "I must check on XDA to see if anyone else thinks that the image quality is a bit pap", but I always forget.
Thanks for asking this

I believe that only applies on Turbo.
I also want to sort the poor quality of the images in opera.. looks really naff!
I'm also dissappointed in the quality... Hope there will be a fix for this...

I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on this one.. On a nice large screen I want all pictures to look their best. Things like the google logo etc looks terrible. Surely there is a mod/setting that can be changed!?
yes but opera mini has a built in turbo mode , and the picture quality is 110% sperior to everyhing else

In mini you can set picture quality.
Opera turbo has to be turned off if you want god picture qualities.
My apologies for having missed this thread: I started another one on the same subject here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622661
Seeing as this problem affects me not just in Opera but in IE as well, my tentative conclusion is that it's not the application that's the problem, but my mobile carrier (T-mobile in my case). If I (and others who came to the same conlusion, many before I did) are correct, then what happens is that the carrier detects you are requesting a JPEG image on your data connection, fetches the JPEG itself, recompresses it to make the file smaller, and then forwards on to you the compressed version. Opera or IE is unaware of this, and simply displays the image it gets. This image is also cached; so, if you fetch the compressed version you will see that same compressed version again the next time you visit the page, even if you're browsing over wifi. The only way to see the uncompressed version is to exit Opera, go back in, clear the cache, then connect to the page in question over Wifi or ActiveSync.
I was told in the main CM thread that starting a new thread about this issue specifically is more likely to get attention, so here it is.
In the last 4 version of CM on my Nexus One (5.0.5-5.0.5.3), the MMS app is not resizing the photos taken with the camera app. When I go to get details on a photo that MMS is trying to send, it shows that it's anywhere between 600kb and 1000kb, clearly too large to send through AT&T. When I flash back to the stock rom, the MMS app resizes these same photos and they go through every time.
I tried sending an MMS earlier today with no luck, I'm on 5.0.5.2
I thought it was something i was doing wrong :/
I have the same problem
I guess we'll have to wait for 5.0.5.4...
I have the same issue. The only workaround I found was to use Handscent SMS instead of the built-in messaging app.

This is what I'm currently doing. Two things that suck about Handscent (from what I can tell). 1) It compresses the pictures to VERY small, so they actually look pretty lousy on a phone with a high resolution display. I think it compresses them down to 11kb. 2) Handscent doesn't send video.
This has been an issue with CM since the initial release. i switched to using Handcent as well.
Have you gone to the Settings menu in the Messaging App? From there go all the way to the bottom and Select Custom User Agent. Try selecting different ones and see if that changes anything.

I have tried all the user agents, none of these settings affect the size of the file being sent so it does nothing for this problem.
Any luck using chompsms?
i've had trouble with both reg message app and handcent....just reporting...HAHA
uh yep. same problem here. super annoying.
hopefully Steve has seen this and will look into it. I have played around with it a lot over last two days. It seems very random, works, then doesn't. I dunno....See if Steve mentions anything in next ROM update changelog, lets all hang tight, he's never let us down!!
chompsms has worked best in resizing mms and such
much prefer it to stock and handcent overall in use as well
I don't think this has anything to do with the CM ROM as I get the same on stock and from what I've read everyone seems to have the same issue.
There are other posts on here about this as well as on Googles Nexus help forum.
I struggled with the same issue. Firstly, as already pointed out, this is not an issue with Cyanogen, its the stock SMS app that is the culprit.
The solution is to edit your Mms.apk and hopefully Cyanogen will implement this fix in a new version.
Just use whatever binary editor on your OS to edit mms_config.xml which is in mms.apk. The limits are clearly visible as ASCII text in there. As the limit is 1048576, you need to make that 0307200 to be on the safe side. I also edited the resolution, 1024x768 would seem plenty for an MMS. The result is that out going messages here are around 100kb when resized and it never hits that 300KB limitation.
So start with unzipping the Mms.apk, then edit the file called mms_config.xml, and just zip it back up again.
Again, hopefully this fix can be implemented in the next Cyanogen version
cyanogen said that hes thinking about making the messaging app be configurable so we can choose which size the app does.
thanks for the tip Untouchab1e, but when i tried to unrar the file opened the xml file, edit with dreamweaver, changed the file size and the resolution (i did 800x600 though), but i rar it back up and rename to apk. Doesnt work. Am i doing something wrong?
EDIT
Well my current workaround for now is, download picsay (free) from the market, open picsay, tap get picture, open the picture you want, hit normal, hit menu button when the picutre is showing (menu on the 4 keys at the bottom) hit export, tap on save to sd card. after the picture has saved, open messaging app, attach a picture, open the picsay folder, select the picture and send. delete the picture from picsay if needed.
Any kind developers willing to recompile the Mms.apk with the edited xml file? I changed the file myself with the recommended settings, but I haven't the programming background to even begin to understand the process of putting the apk back together (everything I read about it gave me a headache).
Here's the zip file that contains everything, which technically just needs to be converted into an apk.
+1 here.
This is the biggest Problem for me with CM-Rom...
Its impossible to take a Picture and send it via MMS.
Iam 100% sure that the Picture-Resizing is working on Stock-Rom.
Please dont get me wrong, iam really happy with CM's Rom but iam wondering why Cyanogen didnt fixed this since the first release because its something like a "Basic-Feature" but it seems to be more important to have fancy color LED-Notifications...
Cyanogen, please fix this soon
It appears this is fixed in the upcoming 5.0.6 ROM, or at least it is in the test version.
You can also push the older 5.0.4.x version to get it working in 5.0.5.x, instructions are here.
I have a feeling that these settings only affect those using the Nexus One on AT&T, and since CM's ROM's are used by people in numerous countroes and various networks, it would make sense to keep it open for those carriers to allow larger pictures. That's just my guess though.
I tried 5.0.5.6 briefly just to test this and the results seemed to be the same. I'm going to try pushing the older version, but I don't want to lose the black background. I think it's slick.
Edit: Just reverted to the 5.0.5.4 MMS file as posted above without theme options and it's still not working. I also forgot that the old and stock version of this app have that inconsistent behavior when pressing the back button (sometimes you load all threads, sometimes you get kicked back to the home screen). Nandroid restoring now...
Anyone know if there's a way to adjust the mms compression settings? I use shootme to take screenshots and when I send them to friends, it's completely unreadable and blocky. I'm guessing because it gets compressed so dam much.
Some roms raise the mms size limit, that should help.

Hey guys, my fiance's Shift has somewhat of the same problem. She'd take a picture with every possible setting on 'high' and they look great on the phone itself. If you view the pics on a PC from the SD card, they look pretty good, too. The problem appears when she sends pics as mms to me or other phones (other 'droids, iphones, BBs...you name it): these attachments arrive in 'thumbnail' format! You can zoom in, but all the original quality goes down the drain
Shift is rooted and I flashed....don't remember what lol. I think it was the 'official' update...is it called AOSP? Sorry, kinda of a n00b here
Any ideas?

Might want to try MikShifted G v1.76 or Supreme Sense v8 . Both have the MMS Compression settings adjustments your talking about. The pic quality is also great even when you send an MMS.
To add to prboy1969's point the you will probably need to be on a custom rom that has those settings tweaked. Although you should still be able to send a pic and have it come out ok on the other end.
Hi All,
i found solution for unlimited recording on android device, it has pros and cons so hopefully some programmer will come and modify the buildin camera apk.
here are solutions they are working perfects but the problem is the quality is no where close to the buildin cam apk.
1. lgCamera
2. Snap Camera HDR
3. moto x camera apk its free and in my opinion its quality better than the other 2.
so the problem of limited recording is not due to format fat32, because htc on buildin cam apk record 30 minutes and stops and its size is 4gb, but i have tried lgcamera was recording over an hours and its size was 5.7gb.
i do not keep it long, i hope some programmer modify htc one cam apk to record unlimit or auto splitted to 30 minutes duration, also modify its zoom default to the value of 50% because htc one cam is way zoomed out.
so if any genius person modify the camera apk then it will be best solution, it just need to override the default camera apk setting when some one modifying its camera apk.
some time when we have party i do not like to go and modify zoom setting and start record again every half an hour.
Thanks for any programmer who modify this and good luck with the rest for temporary solution.
Hi,
snap camera records 30fps with 20mbit in low light, but the result is darker then htc stock camera.

I could be off here, but since you said recording stops at 30 minutes, I think I have a solution:
In /system/etc/media_profiles.xml, there is a "duration=" setting for each encoder profile. This can be set to either 30 or 60, and currently all profiles except qvga are set to 30. You may be able to set this to 60 and be able to record up to 60 minutes. Report back.

You do realise that routinely changing the zoom is a terrible idea on the One?
It's a digital zoom, not an optical one, so all you are doing by zooming in is losing pixels - this is fine if you are shooting something and wish to zoom in for effect, but as a general rule if you want to get the best quality out of the camera, you should leave zoom well alone. This is especially true of the One as it doesn't have that many pixels to play with in the first place.

zoomin htc one
hello Dave,
i have tested the video, i captured 2 video phone was at stable position, one without touching zoom and the other shoot was zoomed about 60%
then i cropped the one with 0 zoom to the same frame as the one with 60% zoom.
the result is as follows:
after cropping the video file from 1920 x 1080 became 775 x 425 well if i keep this size the file remain same quality but when i cropped back to
1920 x 1080 the quality is blury and no where near the original or the video was shooted with 60% zoomin.
so i believe the zoomin in htc one does not effect its quality as long as you are not zoomed extreme.
when you crop video and resized you will lose quality the same as zoomin, but all camcorders allow certain zoom without affecting quality, so i believe htc one zoomin is the same, but some video camera have advanced zoomin to go beyond limited for instance 72x advanced zoomin and the normal zoomin is 20x, so if you go beyond 20 you still zoomin further but you will lose quality and shaky footage.so the safe is to stay with 20x range.
all edited with after effects and even i did not export the out put, but after editing them compared them side by side, it is like day and night the quality differences between the 2 videos.
thank you though for information, i will try first to root my device and see if i can go beyond the limited recording.

hello again
i have changed those number to 60
i started from
<!ATTLIST EncoderProfile duration (60|60) #REQUIRED>
and each
<EncoderProfile quality="cif" fileFormat="mp4" duration="60">
so as you see all are in 60 minutes but no luck sofar i tried twice
1st record 25:39
2nd attempt records 26:04
both size are 3.79 gb in size
now i started recording again to see what is the the outcome if it is the same then i have to try to changed back to 30 at least its 30minutes, so i think it is the size limit thing
update: it is size limit issue, i checked again it says video size limit is reached.
i think it is be useful if some one try to write a code to state when ever the video reach limited time then start again automatically.
but thanks for the advice, i will let you know if i come with better solution..
thank you.

Hi guys, this seems to be the only real discussion on this issue going on at all.
Has anyone been able to find a way around this limitation?
the problem is there are many know how to solved but they do not shared with us.
only who does not know and they spread a word over the net and same crap like, it is due to format type, let me tell you i have solved mine on htc one no problem what so ever until i stopped manually.
i am not a programmer but currently when i have time i try to learn java then i will after that develop simple app and progressing from there and will help the community but that take up to 1 to 2 years.
any way how i solved mine? i do not know my self but i did 2 things will shared with all of you.
1. i rooted my htc one device, there is plenty guide on this forum.
2. i decompile my camera apk and i change a picture and i can not remember if i mess little with codes or not but i doubt i did, so i deleted the original camera apk and replaced with my modification.
i will be glad to share my camera apk with you if you think it might be due to this modifications, i tell you what? i never update the system software now, because i am afraid i will lose the unlimited recording, so it works for me but i do not know how, but in future when i understand java programming i will help every one in this community.

Zindu, thank you so much for sharing.
I emailed Google about this here is the response I got:
"Thank you for contacting Google. I appreciate your patience with me as I look into this issue. It seems as though the limit placed on the video data file of 2gb is written into the android operating system. This is in effect on all types of android devices.
I have researched a few video control apps, they follow the same rule and stop at 1.9-2gb. At this time I do not believe there is a work around for this issue. I do not have software update information available either. Some of the research I have done points to a possible legislative law that limits the video recording time of mobile devices as it takes away from video recorders."
pal first thing you do undock the cam apk from the bar dock on your phone, see if it is working, what i mean by the dock is the bar on your phone on the bottom which have space for 4 or 5 applications, so undock cam apk from this dock and used on the main windows view.
if that does not work root ur phone and undock cam apk from dock bar.
if both does not work then if you have htc one i will upload my cam apk so you can install it on urs.
mine was limited to 4gb now its unlimited in size and durations, a programmer can develop application to over ride the camera system settings, so if i learn java in future my first apk will be try to over ride system setting.

if its not docked then rooted anyway see if it works?
what i did i undocked, rooted, modified a pick and some codes in xml file, and it works for me so i do not know which step caused the fix, but you need to root your device if you want to replace system application on your phone.
try to root your device first and try to modify xml file see if it works, if it was htc one i could help because i can upload xml and apk file.
that is all i know for now hope someone who have better knowledges to help you out but i hope i learn java within a year or too then i be able to fix this issue.

Ikr, it is pretty ridiculous. Zindu is right though, it's simple enough but the people who can figure it out don't care. Most people just don't seem to need their phone for our purpose.
My workaround has been SVR Pro:
-Upsides -It will record in fragments until your storage is full.
-You can use your device while recording
-You can record with the screen turned off !! which is epic for battery life!
-Downside -you loose like a second of video between the fragments

I've used stock mms before in the past, but not for long as it was slow and clunky (note 4). I have since gotten this phone and rather like stock texting as it works with themer.
Imagine my shock to find stock messenger SEVERELY compresses any gif I send, regardless of size. It turns the video into unwatchable, potato quality.
I've looked into text settings, I think. I can't find any way to fix this. Do any of you fine members here have a solution? I'd like to not have to use s third party app
I'm beginning to think this is a dead phone with no more support or development....

No, seriously, does anybody have this ****ing phone anymore? This is a simple question
