[INFO] hboot 1.56 S-OFF (Firewater) - One (M7) General

I was struggling to do this one, but I finally managed to pull it off last night and I have noticed many others are having the same issues so i hope this helps
After unlocking the bootloader through htcdev.com: (will wipe ur phone clean)
1. Flashed twrp 2.6.3.3 recovery
2. Flashed stock odexed ROM --- Main Page
3. Rooted the ROM (it will prompt you when it's done installing)
4. Update SuperSU app when the phone boots
5. Disable Fastboot from Settings > Power
6. Enable USB Debugging
7. Open the SuperSU app, it will ask you to update the binaries and choose TWRP method (Google Play method didnt work for me)
8. just followed the instructions for firewater s-off and it worked
When you run the last command in the firewater instructions keep an eye on ur phone as u will have to grant superuser access to it within 8 seconds

Returning to stock to apply sense 6.0 update
1. Flashed stock odexed ROM - chose not to root this time
2. Flashed stock recovery (also found in the stock thread URL) --- Main Page
3. Flashed OTA_M7_UL_K44_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_5.11.401.10-4.19.401.11_release_372404wj19h95c0x6oa19n through stock recovery

hope this helps whoever is struggling atm
Note:
- This is not a guide, just merely a tip for those on hboot 1.56 and struggling to get s-off to work on some rooted ROMs
- I was on hboot 1.56 and 4.19.401.11 stock ROM
Threads to read if u dont know what to do:
[GUIDE] Complete Flashing Guide | Rooting | Going Back To Stock | 05.05.2013
Note that step #7 (Flashing Custom Recovery) will not work on hboot 1.56 so you'll have to skip to step #11

This worked for me.

Didn't work for me...

didn't work for me either, just got the whelp message straight away as usual, just out of interest, do you know what firmware version you were on before you ran firewater ?
My Device came with 4.19.401.11 already on it.
Just going to try rumrunner quickly before I restore my original rom.

For anyone trying to S-OFF without success. I just S-OFFed my One!
I am on HBOOT 1.56, ARHD 71.1 and ElementalX kernel 14.10. It's important to use the 14.10 kernel, as the 14.12 DOES NOT WORK with firewater!
Happy flashing!

No. I mean yes, once but it didnt matter, during the process is says something like "opening the first bottle...chugging...." the first did not succeed, then it said something "Whelp...". Then it went on "opening the second bottle" or something and that one worked.
I have read in several comments that that exact setup is working, and it did for me too. ARHD 71.1 + ElementalX 14.10

To clarify - where you getting the 'welp' message before you tried this specific method? Thanks!
Has anyone managed to make Firewater work with a 9001 eMMC CID?

Not that kind of "whelp I cant help and it wont work" just during "opeining the bottles".
CID is irrelevant now, if you use it with that setup (the arhd and elementalx kernel) it should work!

[Q] Root Legend:Using Unrevoked (latest updates from the unlockr)

Hi guys,
just checked theunlockr.com today and saw this:
sorry, cant post links.
just check theunlockr.com for how to root legend using unrevoked
It has been updated on 22nd Sept 2010.
Has anyone tried it?
Seems you can root and use custom roms without downgrading.
Is it possible?
I'm curious about this as well. The post on Unlockr clearly references the legend, but the FAQ page at unrevoked doesn't list it as one of the supported models.
Has anyone tried this?
just check the video they have posted, they are using an EVO as an example, but the video says it is the same for all the devices.
So hopefully it should work.
Waiting for someone to try it
someone who hasn't rooted his phone yet. Here is the link for I brave volunteer:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/22/how-to-root-the-htc-legend-unrevoked-method/
Cool. This has the same limitations as other root methods though, yeah? Such as not having proper access to the /system partition, or am I living in the past?
I so want to try but don't know how to unroot
I think you can also flash custom roms after rooting by this method.
In the last sentence it has instructions on how to load a custom rom and custom recovery.
Has anyone successfuly rooted using this method.

Oh, come on. Why do I keep getting this? Why can some post the word "no" without issue, and I have to write unnecessarily long posts?
I have tried it on a stock 2.03 rom...Fail.. Freezes the phone..
I will now downgrade to 1.31 and then try again....
i'm going to try it right now with 1.31 rom... one moment....
it doesn't detect my phone... i will try to fix it
I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
Oops
Wow did I kill this thread...
looking at the posts i think i will wait before trying it.
I dont have much information about roting and stuff.
well its time i read up a few rooting posts...
now where is that search button...
An update from the unlockr.com comment section,
2 guys tried it, but were not successful.
But they were on a mac.
Any one rooted over here using this method on windows with the HBOOT drivers?

Yes. For some phones there's "unrevoked forever" that will unlock your NAND and give you r/w on /system. Right now the welcome message in #unrevokedtest is "Testing will resume on future versions when we have them. Thanks to all for your support. Next train: HTC Desire (maybe Legend) S-OFF. Est arrival: unknown." S-OFF means permanent NAND unlock.
The big difference between unrevoked and other root methods is that it will really flash a custom recovery image, not fake-flash.
Quite correct.
The last info I got from Matt was that an early command in their rooting procedure already fails and that Legend apparently is quite different from other phones.
Damn! thats quiet bad.
so are they trying to sort it out or is it gonna remain that way.
I had seen the unrevoked team twitter post informing they were working on Legend, but then there were no updates later.
hopefully they are busy creating more good stuff for the community.

So unrevoked³ is the same as current rooting method where you need to use the ROM Manager to boot into ClockWorkMod or a batch script (vs just launching recovery with VOL - & POWER) and having no access to /system?

Root on 2.37+ is achievable

For those who are on versions 2.37+ - I've managed to be able to root my 2.43.661.1 and know someone else who rooted a 2.50 DHD.
Of course, this may not work on all but it is definitely worth a shot.
1. Download a 1.32 Stock RUU
2. Create a Goldcard (any guide will tell you how)
3. Install HTC Sync and run the RUU so it flashes the phone.
4. Follow a normal DHD rooting guide.
I don't know if would work on all DHD's above 2.37 but can't see why not. I just rooted two phones with a friend and all seems to run fine.
So if you've been waiting, give it a try. It won't hurt if it fails, but I can tell you it has had success.
(Phone was a branded TELUS - 2.43.661.1)
which rooting guide did you follow.... ??????
is it downgrading 2.37 ???????
gimme the link .....................
This won't work (atleast without s-off), you'll get an error when trying to run the RUU with a lower version number than the one currently on your phone...

Thats what I thought - alas, achieved root around lunchtime today. No error, worked, and currently rooted.
Currently running Telus 2.43.661.1
No root, no s-off
Downloading 1.32 RUU from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824357
I have a goldcard, so I'll see if that lets me downgrade. I'll post back in an hour or two and let you know how it goes.
EDIT: As posted below, Bootloader error "Error 140 Bootloader Version error"
My understanding is to downgrade 2.4*.***.* roms you NEED to be s-offed before applying the 2.4*.***.* update.

Same Bootloader version error as bolded. Phone reboots and everything is fine, so no damage done by trying. I'm not sure if its a goldcard issue as I don't have another SD card to try at the moment.
madmaxx, what version were you running before using that method. My understanding is this wont work with 2.4+ versions.

This is understandable, you don't have S-OFF.
Please stop posting "guides" like this, unless you've actually CONFIRMED it works with screenshots and everything. Flashing unknown stuff BRICKS DEVICES! I can't stress that enough.
I also get the 140 bootloader error. We can't root 2.42 or higher without s-off.
I had read a little about rooting, but the downgrade part always sort of put me off to the whole thing as it seemed very hard. I did have the latest upgrade, so it seemed it wasn't possible. I stumbled on to a guide here pretty much like this and I finally managed to downgrade, root and install MIUI, then I went a step further and installed the latest LeeDrOID kernel.
I can say that it has pretty much effectively doubled my battery life. It's amazing, and I now have complete control over my phone. I love this place! =P
fuzzbeans: You're lucky you were on a 2.37 or lower version. Anyone running 2.4* versions cannot root/downgrade unless they were already s-offed before hand.
Anyone on the east coast of Canada with a XTC clip?
The first post should be edited to say any 2.4+ version needs s-off for this to work. If not, you're out of luck.
Any word if 2.46 will ever be rootable? i would love to root my device !!

From my (basic) understanding, they need to find a new way to s-off the device so you can flash custom roms and perm-root the device.

Thank you just let me know when you upload!
What ROM are you running? Or did you simply try to acquire root capabilities so far (stock)? I really recommend you do some more searching around the forum because your problem seems like just some bad luck. Also did you back up before you started the AAHK?
Well... when you used AAHK what was the rom you have?
If the phone was with official update GB 2.3.5 sense 3, the hack kit automatically DOWNGRADE the rom before attempt to root and get it S-OFF (with the last official update there's no way to success S-OFF, only root)...
Than the kit (run it twice) will perform S-OFF and root.
If the phone was with a rootable rom the hack kit SKIP the downgrade step and attempt directly to S-OFF and root the device.
So.... what exactly the situation?!
EDIT: Read this, i think could help...
Only i recommend (if you want to s-off and root your device) to use a build with a sense 2.1

I have not meet this situation。
I suppose it need temporary root permission or goldencard ?? and then DHD can find PD98IMG.zip in sdcard and automatically install it。
Try wiping your phone a few times in row also the cachs. You may have had a corrupted download so try downloading it again. Also cyanogenmod 7 is very stable but I prefer the new virtuous infinity alpha 3 ROM and don't forget to flash the inspire patch after the main ROM it fixes the camera issues as well some other buggs. I am still considered a noob but i've been around the block a few times as well flashed a few different roms with success everytime. If this still does not work reply and ill give you detailed instructs on what to do. Make it as detailed as possible. What you did start to finish. Do your homework too.

THis is an alternative way for the AAHK since it has been removed.
I'm guessing you might have done something wrong while downgrading.
Follow the guide, step by step, never skip anything, no matter how unimportant you believe it to be.
I'm sure you'll be good to go.
Good luck

Auto rotation Fixed on JellyBean [UPDATE 9]

Moving to a JellyBean rom, some users have experienced the unability to have the auto rotation functional.
There was a debate about that a long time ago whether it was a kernel , a rom or a hardware issue ....
(N.B: Custom roms with Sense 4 are ONE of the causes leading to this problem !)
However , even if there is still not a real fix available, everyone who is experiencing the issue can make the auto rotation functional again by following this process :
1) Download the DHD RUU that can be found on this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235 (Already rooted)
2) Once downloaded, extract the files to recreate the full zip, put it in your SD Card . ( Download here 7-Zip for extraction )
3) Now go to the RECOVERY, do a FULL WIPE and then flash that Stock rom.
4) Reboot
5) Make the basic settings
6) Rebot again into RECOVERY, do a FULL WIPE and then flash your JellyBean rom.
For some users, flashing a PRE-ROOTED ROM does not fix the auto rotation problem. If you are one of those, just stick to the original RUU. To proceed, follow these steps :
1) In order to flash the original RUU from a JB rom, you have to go back first to a GB rom due to some Firmwares incompatibiltiy during installation. The fix is tested with latest CM 7 which you can download from here : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=stable&device=ace
2) Then, and after you have flashed the CM 7 rom, download this RUU:http://hotfile.com/dl/145200528/06c..._26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe.html
3) Once downloaded, open the executable file and follow the instructions to flash your DHD to the original STOCK ROM.
4) Root your Rom using this easy tool: http://downloadcdn.betterinstaller.com/installers/9/9/UnlockRoot_downloader_by_UnlockRoot.exe
5) When finished:
A- Download ROM MANAGER from the PLAYSTORE to flash the CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY,or use 4EXT RECOVERY UPDATER to flash the latest 4EXT RECOVERY downloadable from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1476011&stc=1&d=1352726394
B- Otherwise If your Bootloader is ENG-OFF & you want a quick method, you can use the Bootloader to flash this file Zip ( 4EXT RECOVERY RC8 ): http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1485776&d=1353050856
6) Reboot into Recovery
7) Full Wipe
8) Flash the JellyBean rom you want to use
9) Now you have a functional auto rotation !!!!
WEIRD as a FIX but the important is that it WORKS
If you get stuck at any level, do not hesitate to ask for help !

Thank a lot for the links and the guide to solve this annoying issue.
Do you agree if i translate the steps and publish the tuto in a french forum? Of course with credit given to you.
YES!
But what I want to talk about is you needn;t to root it since your hboot is s-off, you can flash recovery directly from hboot or bootloader just like you update the radio img with the zip named PD98IMG.
yes mate good job!

Rom Manager will ask you to root your phone if you want to flash it ... even if you are S-off
EDIT: sorry I misunderstood you.. I should go take my breakfast first and come back
Well , I did not use this way , but if it works then that's okay
I believe that using a rooted RUU works too. For example, Super Stock in the Inspire 4G forums.
THIS IS A BAD IDEA. People should not be flashing a froyo ruu. Those that have shipped with gb will have there boot loaders messed up. Then they'll be bugging glevitan on how to fix it as he is way nicer than me.
If your going to flash stock to fix this auto rotate stick gb 2.50/3.12
Then flash cwr/4ext in a pd98 or fastboot

I did not test it , but I've heard that it worked for some DHD users
However, I'm just trying to avoid all things that are not official... By this way, we avoid also unexcpected or uncommon results !

Did you have this issue? did you try to fix it with what you have just said ? If yes that would be good and I can update the OP . But if not .. sorry ... I cannot post something which was not tested by everyone ...
I never had the issue because in flashed the 3.20 before any jb roms existed.
I'm not talking about fixing the auto rotate issue as being a problem but flashing a froyo ruu/pd98. Like I said if your device shipped with gb then the downgrade in boot loader will cause it to go in super slow. It will take like 20 minutes to boot up. Glevitan and I have seen this one to many times.
For those that had froyo shipped devices its no big deal, bit for those that were not it is a problem. That why glevitan has a section in his guide to fix this
We have reports of someone fixing it with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235 in the cfX forums. Post 2015. Also, WordsworthESP reported that Super Stock worked.

he knows what he's talking about.
on a side note, there have been reports that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29836619 this rom worked. I personally flashed the official ruu for the inspire.
Then I flashed a pd98img file in hboot to get recovery. This one is 4ext touch recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33421701
If you prefer cwm touch recovery you can get it from the ace think tank thread from glevitans guide in post#7.
P.S. If you ever read marsdta, glevitan (and other members that are too many to mention) saying something, your next response should be "yes sir"

Yes, this worked perfectly for me too. Flashed the
DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00_LITE.zip from recovery, and then wiped and flashed Jelly Bean. The problem with auto rotation for me only appears after flashing the ViperDHD ROM (Don't recall problems after the other sense 4.1).

I have the same problem as you... Rooting is the easy part.
Then, whenever I try installing a new update, my phone tells me it can't.

Ok so have now got it working....
here's what I did.
flashed twrp from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...mple-guide-android-2-2-to-kitkat-4-4-t2897465 direct link to twrp is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48501247&postcount=1250
then I flashed ms2ginger from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140839
let it boot and run to make sure alls well
and finaly flashed android 4.2.2 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702
you could probably miss the ms2ginger but I felt it was safer to do it to confirm all was well etc..
hope that helps
