Auto rotation Fixed on JellyBean [UPDATE 9] - Desire HD General

Moving to a JellyBean rom, some users have experienced the unability to have the auto rotation functional.
There was a debate about that a long time ago whether it was a kernel , a rom or a hardware issue ....
(N.B: Custom roms with Sense 4 are ONE of the causes leading to this problem !)
However , even if there is still not a real fix available, everyone who is experiencing the issue can make the auto rotation functional again by following this process :
1) Download the DHD RUU that can be found on this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235 (Already rooted)
2) Once downloaded, extract the files to recreate the full zip, put it in your SD Card . ( Download here 7-Zip for extraction )
3) Now go to the RECOVERY, do a FULL WIPE and then flash that Stock rom.
4) Reboot
5) Make the basic settings
6) Rebot again into RECOVERY, do a FULL WIPE and then flash your JellyBean rom.
For some users, flashing a PRE-ROOTED ROM does not fix the auto rotation problem. If you are one of those, just stick to the original RUU. To proceed, follow these steps :
1) In order to flash the original RUU from a JB rom, you have to go back first to a GB rom due to some Firmwares incompatibiltiy during installation. The fix is tested with latest CM 7 which you can download from here : http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=stable&device=ace
2) Then, and after you have flashed the CM 7 rom, download this RUU:http://hotfile.com/dl/145200528/06c..._26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe.html
3) Once downloaded, open the executable file and follow the instructions to flash your DHD to the original STOCK ROM.
4) Root your Rom using this easy tool: http://downloadcdn.betterinstaller.com/installers/9/9/UnlockRoot_downloader_by_UnlockRoot.exe
5) When finished:
A- Download ROM MANAGER from the PLAYSTORE to flash the CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY,or use 4EXT RECOVERY UPDATER to flash the latest 4EXT RECOVERY downloadable from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1476011&stc=1&d=1352726394
B- Otherwise If your Bootloader is ENG-OFF & you want a quick method, you can use the Bootloader to flash this file Zip ( 4EXT RECOVERY RC8 ): http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1485776&d=1353050856
6) Reboot into Recovery
7) Full Wipe
8) Flash the JellyBean rom you want to use
9) Now you have a functional auto rotation !!!!
WEIRD as a FIX but the important is that it WORKS
If you get stuck at any level, do not hesitate to ask for help !

Thank a lot for the links and the guide to solve this annoying issue.
Do you agree if i translate the steps and publish the tuto in a french forum? Of course with credit given to you.

YES!
But what I want to talk about is you needn;t to root it since your hboot is s-off, you can flash recovery directly from hboot or bootloader just like you update the radio img with the zip named PD98IMG.
yes mate good job!

Rom Manager will ask you to root your phone if you want to flash it ... even if you are S-off
EDIT: sorry I misunderstood you.. I should go take my breakfast first and come back
Well , I did not use this way , but if it works then that's okay

I believe that using a rooted RUU works too. For example, Super Stock in the Inspire 4G forums.

THIS IS A BAD IDEA. People should not be flashing a froyo ruu. Those that have shipped with gb will have there boot loaders messed up. Then they'll be bugging glevitan on how to fix it as he is way nicer than me.
If your going to flash stock to fix this auto rotate stick gb 2.50/3.12
Then flash cwr/4ext in a pd98 or fastboot

I did not test it , but I've heard that it worked for some DHD users
However, I'm just trying to avoid all things that are not official... By this way, we avoid also unexcpected or uncommon results !

Did you have this issue? did you try to fix it with what you have just said ? If yes that would be good and I can update the OP . But if not .. sorry ... I cannot post something which was not tested by everyone ...

I never had the issue because in flashed the 3.20 before any jb roms existed.
I'm not talking about fixing the auto rotate issue as being a problem but flashing a froyo ruu/pd98. Like I said if your device shipped with gb then the downgrade in boot loader will cause it to go in super slow. It will take like 20 minutes to boot up. Glevitan and I have seen this one to many times.
For those that had froyo shipped devices its no big deal, bit for those that were not it is a problem. That why glevitan has a section in his guide to fix this

We have reports of someone fixing it with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235 in the cfX forums. Post 2015. Also, WordsworthESP reported that Super Stock worked.

he knows what he's talking about.
on a side note, there have been reports that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29836619 this rom worked. I personally flashed the official ruu for the inspire.
Then I flashed a pd98img file in hboot to get recovery. This one is 4ext touch recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33421701
If you prefer cwm touch recovery you can get it from the ace think tank thread from glevitans guide in post#7.
P.S. If you ever read marsdta, glevitan (and other members that are too many to mention) saying something, your next response should be "yes sir"

Yes, this worked perfectly for me too. Flashed the
DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00_LITE.zip from recovery, and then wiped and flashed Jelly Bean. The problem with auto rotation for me only appears after flashing the ViperDHD ROM (Don't recall problems after the other sense 4.1).

[SOLVED] Need Fastboot KDZ for

Hi guys,
I need ClockworkMod recovery working to use with ROM Manager. To my understanding, to do this, I need to flash with a ROM having fastboot. I tried Open Europe with fastboot but it keeps giving forceclosures. I can't even enter settings and so I can't enable USB debugging to root or to flash another ROM via KDZ updater.
My phone runs stock 2.1 latest version made for TMN mobile. Does anyone have the KDZ with fastboot for above version? Can anyone help me make one?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Nibras.
The Open Europe fastboot works fine. Just do a factory reset.

I would like to have the current ROM as well. To backup it, I will need a version of this ROM with fastboot.
Ok, done. Installed OpenEU and did a hard reset and it works fine.
I flashed clockworkmod 2.5.0.5 but i can't seem to be able to install swiftdroid using .zip from the recovery.
You will need to flash the new recovery 3.x.

I really like the TMN ROM over the OpenEU version although am neither Portugese or European. The TMN ROM is more newer than OpenEU version and it also is noticeably faster. So, if I can have both TMN ROM with fastbook/clockwork, it's a huge plus for me since I wouldn't really stand back to try out new ROMs.

How to root t-mobile vibrant with Froyo 2.21,froyo UVKB5 ,

I upgraded my vibrant to the lastest official rom, froyo UVKB5 , juse for those who still looking for the way to root it, I used the Super one click version 1.91 , and it works, remember ,only the version 1.91 will work, all other earlier version will not help you.
Certainly you will have to install the usb driver for Vibrant,
then download the SUPER ONE CLICK software ,
and select "USB DEBBUGING " on your phone,
then open the SUPER ONE CLICK programe,
connect your phone via usb,and click 'Root" ,
when it says done, reboot your phone, there you should get it rooted.

Lol no that is not how you do it! You have to have a modified 3e recovery first then you can start flashing things its not as easy as that. Since the 3e recovery checks update.zip you cannot flash clockworkmod that easily you can do it on jfd that easy but not an update which has a 3e recovery!

Please help -- how to flash this new stock gingerbread rom to a rooted g2
I have a rooted G2 running CM7, but the gps is totally dead. I'm too much of a noob to flash a new radio, which I think would do the trick. Flashing this stock gingerbread rom seems like the perfect solution because it includes an updated radio and i am just sure it will fix the gps problem.
I bought the phone rooted and I know how to flash new rooted roms through clockwork (so easy), but I have absolutely no idea how to flash a rom like this that updates everything.
I'm sure this question has been asked here before, but can someone just point me to a step-by-step instructions about how to flash this particular stock gingerbread rom to a g2 that is rooted and has clockwork installed?
Thanks~! This is my first post.

Flashing a radio is easy. Just follow the steps in the radio thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
I know the second method (fastboot and radio.img files) is supposed to be safer. But that looks like it might be over your head, and you need the Eng Hboot to do it.
Flashing a ROM is easy, too. Just move the file to your SD card, and flash from ROM Manager. You will see an option "Install ROM from SD Card". Browse to the file, and the rest is the same as if you downloaded the ROM using ROM Manager.
Thanks, but a few more questions . . .

Thanks for the reply! I think you are underestimating how new I am to this, though. My question is really this: does it matter, when flashing the new gingerbread rom for g2 that just came out, that the rom is not just a rom, but also a radio and everything else? it is titled in the "PC10IMG" form, which seems to me, from reading other threads, to be a special thing.

also, would you recommend that i wipe stuff before flashing? when the person who flashed my phone with me last time did it, he wiped dalvik cache and two others (can't remember which, or where he found them in recovery), and user data as well. but if you go to do it within clockwork, it doesn't ask you to do that, does it? again, i'm sure there is a thread about this somewhere.

well, it's a bit complicate.
supposedly the rom will return your phone to a totally stock state, which will give you the new radio etc, but you will not have root - this was already confirmed. One other forum member mentioned that he flashed the rom and did not loose S-OFF, which is a controversy...
update: lol, dude having CM on your phone means you already have clockwork installed. you just need the /system part of the leak and it's available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074852
Really all he needs to do is run vision efs wipe. This been gone over a million times. CM + gps broke = needing efs wipe. No need to get into radios and all that just yet.

you can solve your gps issues by following two basics:
1. match libs in /system/libs with your radio version,
2. wipe two partitions like it is explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028405
You don't need the new rom, though - it still has the 2 muted seconds when receiving an incoming call - for me that is the no go.

I thought you were talking about the version of the leak that is mentioned in the last post (#10) and also mentioned above in post #4, which is pre-rooted. Thats the one you want. Flash from ROM Manager.
If you are talking about flashing this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074391
This is the official ROM, and as stated in the previous post, you will lose root. So you probably want to avoid this.
PC10IMG.ZIP files are flashable from Hboot (CWM not required). But since you have Clockwork, I believe you can flash any ROM or patch, as long as its a ZIP file. Its safer to flash from CWM anyway, so avoid Hboot for flashing ROMs.
Not positive, but I think you can keep your data since you are going between similar ROMs (Gingerbread, non-Sense). Wiping dalvik and cache are advisable. Not doing so when switching ROMs can lead to random bugs, and there is no real reason to not wipe them. You can wipe dalvik and cache in recovery. If you want to wipe data, you can also do that in recovery, under "advanced". But you will lose all your user data.
If you flash from ROM Manager, it will ask if you want to wipe. But I've never been clear on what all exactly is wiped (dalvik, cache, data). It might be all 3 of those.
Sorry, I've just stated a bunch of things I'm not completely sure about. So hopefully somebody else can confirm these.
The good news is, do a backup of your current ROM in ROM Manager before you flash anything, and if you screw up anything, you can just go into recovery and load your backup.
please help -- do not want to brick

I actually would prefer this to flashing a version of this rom that someone else has extracted/altered, however little. My fear is two things:
1 -- Will it brick my phone to flash a PCIMG file? (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484)
2 -- what do I have to do differently to flash a PCIMG file other than what I normally would do in clockwork to flash another rom (for example a CM rom)
THANKS!

I have tried that, to no avail. I see others who have tried that and failed, and things seem to get tricky after that. I agree, I would rather avoid the nitty gritty stuff.
So I am devastated to see that there is no lock animation =(. That was something I was really looking forward to, despite the insignificance.

My opinion, you're better off flashing the rooted ROM. If you flash the official PC10IMG.ZIP, you will lose root, and not be able to get it back without downgrading (negating the purpose of flashing the official ROM in the first place).
Are you worried about malicious, or accidentally harmful modifications to the ROM (in the rooted version of the leak)? I don't worry much about ROMs for reputable developers. But admittedly, I don't know anything about that user that posted the rooted version of the leak.
In response to your questions:
1) As the thread you posted indicates, its safer not to flash those files unless you know exactly what you are doing.
2) I think you can flash from Clockwork. But as I said, if you aren't sure what you are doing, its not a good idea. You will lose root, and I think some people have also gotten S-On by flashing the official ROMs also. I which case, you may be pretty screwed (as far as getting root), since you can't flash other ROMs with S-On.
Alright so I've reading through all sorts of different forums and feel lost and exactly what to do. I downloaded the official 2.3 update ROM for the G2 that Football had released off of a mirrored site from my phone's browser then renamed it PC10IMG and moved to the root of the SD card. I then did the whole volume down + power button to load the zip but for some reason it says:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0000
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M

Make sure it is named PC10IMG.zip and not PC10IMG.zip.zip

So I checked it out and it's named PC10IMG.zip so I don't know what could be wrong. I find it weird that I'm the only one having this problem.

[Q] [LEAK/DEV][ICS 4.0.3] Acer_AV041_A500_0.009.00_WW_GEN1 Q&A

I don't have enough posts to add to the thread in the Dev forums, so I will ask here.
My Iconia A500 is not rooted, I don't feel that I needed it to be rooted most of the time. Now that is out of the way, I have questions.
Is there a version of this Dev leak that I can flash if I don't care about rooting or recovery? I believe the version he leaked is a CWM or RA recovery flashable only, so I would need the original untouched release.
If I do flash this, I should be able to flash future versions correct, or possibly the final version of the ICS release?
Essentially I would like to use this release on my tablet without caring about root or recovery, but I also don't want to screw myself for future releases.
Is it possible to reflash back to an old Honeycomb release?
You might not be able to post in the dev thread, but you can read it. All your answers are in there, most are even in the OP!

If you don't care about root or recovery, than it is best you stay stock, and wait for OTA updates. This will keep you relatively safe.
Take a deep Breath this could turn out to have issues and not be complete.. There is only reports that it is flash-able.This does not guarantee that is will Run properly. As its a Acer development rom leaked to the public..
I will try it after there are 2 or 3 more days of comments. If it seems to be working well.I must have Root. Hope the post above mine has helped.
JUST Think if it does not pan out you can be one that said IM SMART I WAITED..
GOOD LUCK . DONT CROSS THE STREET WITHOUT LOOKING BOTH WAYS.
This rom is very easy to be flashed on the a500, dear erica_renee. I've done it tonight and I did come, like you, from the latest version of the unrooted Acer stock ROM.
In order to do this, you must:
- flash from your PC, a rooted rom version 3.2 on your tablet with the little app "DotNetDetecter". You can download it from somewhere on XDA Iconia A500's developers threads but I don't remember in which thread I found it.
- install the app "Acer Recovery" (free on the market)
- download the zip of RA recovery (You'll find the link in the Vache's thread) and install this recovery from your CMW recovery you've installed with the rooted rom 3.2 in the first step
- download and install from the RA recovery the ROM ICS that you can download on the website of Vache... Choose the "RA recovery" version of this ROM.
Very pleasant version, this ICS ROM ... but the low volume defect when I record sounds is still present...
Again and again I'm more and more convinced that this problem comes from the LOW QUALITY of these microphones !!!

are you saying that you flashed the cwm version of this on a a500.or do you have a501 Or are you using the non rooted full rom version.. And yes the mic issue i agree with . Considering going to Black box and buying upgraded mics and install . but i dont use it that much.
I have an Iconia A500, renee and I flashed the leaked Acer ICS stock ROM that Vache proposes on his website.
The link is on the first page of his thread.

ok .
now can you go to the root for a200 thread and follow that procedure and see if it will ROOT For you..
this could be the solution if so..
Thanks in advance...
I'd try it myself, but I don't want to lose my current bootloader and the ability to flash custom roms, so I'll just wait.
I'm just waiting for someone to confirm they can return to 3.2.1 via apx mode, once confirmed ill flash it

Why do you fear not being able to go back to honeycomb ?
ICS a real improvement, for me. Google chrome is a great browser too.
These are my first impressions anyway. Very good, very pleasant.
But, if you're not in a hurry, you can wait one more month, of course.

Just in case anything happens it would be good to know if we can revert. When you flashed did you lose all your data, and anything not working in the rom?

I MUST have root access. that is all..
may i ask if you have checked the fallow..
GPS.
Can you tether to a android ad-hoc network
does Ti Backup work.
Does email exchange work.
I could go on but i will not .. THANKS IN Advance
No root on ICS (yet?).
I guess that you will loose it as well when you will install this Rom as an update by OTA...
I don't really need a root on my tablet, personaly, except when I want to test a custom Rom.
There is maybe a solution to keep the root anyway. Check in the thread of Vache.
Apart from that, everything works better than ever for me (gps, tether through my htc Desire, caméra, etc ... except the recurrent prob with the microphones ).
I don't use Titanium backup (that needs root, isn't it?) but MyBackup pro.
Email exchange? Do you mean the app working with Outlook on Windows? I don't use it neither. I use gmail and I import my other accounts on gmail. Sorry. But my email accounts (pop) work perfectly well.
Everything works very well actually with this Rom. I didn't notice any problem till now. No way to go back to HC...
I wonder if Thor has this yet. He is probably the best a500 ICS dev right now.

Just to let you know. I have flashed with the full 4.0.3 (not CWM/rooted one), and then used the first method here to restore back to 3.0.1, then installed CWM to install a ROM without any problems. I have since updated to 4.0.3 full again as it's by far the best ROM for me.
Ny the way, I noticed this morning that the ability to disable bloatware has been added to the stock ics rom via app section of settings, so one less reason for me to need root.

Thanks Antarell,
This is good to know for people who would be nostalgic of Honeycomb
By the way, there is a simplier way to go back to HC with a root. That's the one I've used several times with no bad issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539
This leak flies. Its awesome. Actually makes me not care about losing recovery. I really couldn't ask for more from this. At least we know there's a way back if we really need it.

Working: OTA updates on a rooted HTC One with an unlocked bootloader

Working: OTA updates on a rooted device with an unlocked bootloader
Ok, finally i've managed to do an OTA update on a rooted device with unlocked bootloader, using the following steps:
Step 1: flash back the stock recovery (can be found in the OTA update rar file, in the firmware package).
Step 2: install back the missing APK files, lost during unlocking the bootloader (can be found here: http://sharesend.com/ulxcsxa9)
Step 3: Perform the OTA update normally
Step 4: Flash back the custom recovery using fastboot
Step 5: Go to the custom recovery en press reboot system, in my case CWM asked me to Fix the root and i did.
Notice that there will be no loss of any data, everything should be working fine after following these steps. Just flash back the custom recovery and regain root acces (if CWM won't ask to do it for you) by using rooting tools or rootkeeper.
I think you mean recovery instead of bootloader in steps 1, 4, and 5.

This is nothing new but it's a good guide anyway and if you made OTA updates work with a custom recovery etc then that would be excellent news.
Hey it seems like the files in the OP don't exist or sharesend hates me, if someone could reupload them that would be awesome.

Any link for the Stock kernel and recovery?
Thanks
You mean this works with custom ROM, or should I flash back stock rom ? (I only find OTA for 2.24.401.1)
Edit : I've lost my nandroid backup of stock rom trying unsuccessfully to change firmware...
Just wondering if #3 is absolutely required? Cuz I think most custom ROM has at least some of these APK cooked-in.

Checked on ARDH. Some of them are missing...
Okay now my main question is, Since taking the OTA is possible on a stock custom Rom, if I have the 1.27.531.11 firmware update (tmobile) and I wanted to flash the 1.27.531.7 Rom, and take the .8 OTA, would it restore the .8 1.44 hboot that wasn't modified and allow me to S-Off? I got as far as trying to take the OTA but it didn't work because I forgot to flash the missing apk's.

OTA's only work if you are completely stock, if you change some system file the update will fail, so on custom roms official otas will never work

Yes, I know that, that's why I'm searching for a stock 2.24.401.1 rom to install on my device. I found a deodexed one (very slow download - about half an hour for 3%) but don't know if it fits ?
can I install an OTA ROM (I downloaded one but I'm afraid to make a mistake)
I searched a lot and I am asking in several threads, and still no answer...

I think you want something else than otas but you thinks otas are the solution to your problem, so you are focussing on getting otas to work but what do you really want fixed?
Anyway deodexed roms don't get otas either only stock odexed roms

Thank you for the second part of your answer. for the first part, I have a good running device with ARDH 13.3 and no problem,
I want OTA updates only for firmware update as I don't have s-off. so with ARDH it is impossible. I need a stock ROM that matches my device ( 2.24.401.1 and CID HTC_102) where can I get that?

If you want otas, ask Mike why he choses not to do them, else just put up with checking the thread and downloading+installing a new version every couple of weeks. If you want OTAs on ARHD Mike needs to let them happen, no amount of tinkering on your part, even with s-off, will achieve this
