Any suggestion on how to?
I'm on a jh8 and saw a couple of more recent build around.
No kies support for the tab so only way I think is the old sweet odin , but at the moment I still can't find a way to put the little (NO, NOT REALLY LITTLE) beast in download mode.
TIA
Ciao.
And how did you get your tab ? Mind sharing ?

The Tab has buttons no ? Volume rocker, home and power ? Maybe a few others ? Don't see why three-button combo would be totally out of the question, but if it'll have that feature we have to wait and see...
However, I second the general feeling of confusion. Do you have an actual Tab ? If so where are you seeing 'new builds' for it ?

Already posted before forum double crash
Yes I've got a developer TAB and yes is on froyo and my build is named jh8.
There are other builds around (downloadable tar ji3,4 and 5), I've downloaded a ji5 and want to try an upgrade.
The TAB has no hardware button except volume and power, home back search an menu are touch enabled buttons that when the tab is powered off are totally unpowered so the three button combo cant be executed.
So, long story short, I need to put the TAB on download mode to proceed to an upgrade via odin(my jhi firm release is a tar file)
Hope I clarified all.
TIA

1. You are a lucky man
2. How much free rem does it have for app's ?
3. Maybe there is some other hidden button (is there removable covers ?) / Have u tried holding power + vol up |or| power +vol down . . . . also try while plugged in ?
4. Are you rooted if so "reboot download" via adb will be your answer

4. Rooted and now on download mode using adb(but I just noticed that while connected pressing power + vol down enter in download mode.! performing the update...is taking about triple galaxy s time to update via odin...cross my fingers...
update1: updated my tab now boot but with strange behaviours on the screen and after that remains black(on but black), redone the update checking in odin re-partition, no go.
now try another firmware...
no go with any firmware, no recovery mode(neither with adb) only download mode...help needed;(

Now I cant put it in recovery mode, only download...Help from everyone is greatly apreciated

Agreed there is probably no real damage. If you can put it in download mode, you can save it.
At the very least you should be able to push the old firmware back on, taken from a second unit, but I don't really have the skills to do that kinda stuff.
GL on getting it working again.
Hi folks, still need your help to revive my TAB. Anyone can manage .pit files? I think the problem resides there...
I've got different firms but no luck, if someone found a .pit file for the tab write 2 lines to inform me.
TIA
Hi I have a dev Tab as well with 2.1 eclair on it. I anm trying to update it through kies and odin but no luck.
When the phone is in Download mode on odin it does not recognise the device. It says no device drivers found on wind7.
On Kies it doesn't connect at all and on the screen it says pc coneected.
Is their anyone out there that can help with drivers I think or another way to get the pc to recogniser it to update through lies or odin.
thanks
Regarding the USB device drivers for Windows 7 x64...just do an online search on your favorite search engine, you will find a few sources where to download them from (tip: whatever works for the Samsung Galaxy S works for the Tab)
Hi,
Today I wanted to update my Galaxy S via Kies and I get "Update Fail". From then my phone won't start, won't boot, won't do anything. On screen appears a phone with exclamation mark and a PC. I tried vol down + home + power but that symbol
won't disappear.
You can see the exact symptomes if you will search on youtube "Re: Samsung galaxy s upgrade FROYO 2.2 fail ! ! HELPPP "
Any solutions?

In Kies select "tools", "emergence firmware recovery"....follow on screen instructions
This happened to me more than once.
Just pull out your battery and push the powerbutton for 3 seconds.
Now put the battery in, start in downloadmode and flash via odin
Time for a custom rom if you ask me...
You will never look back trust me...
Custom ROMS are always problematic and the OP is not asking about custom or stock roms..
@gabi Whenever such a situation occurs, just reinsert the battery and enter the phone to download mode and flash again and make sure your USB connection is solid and you are flashing with the correct files.
First of all.. that's a load of crap..
2nd.. he is using kies, not odin .. so what correct files?
Facepalm.

Also you are able to flash a stock firmware with odin but the OP has to find the right firmeware on his own.
I just gave a very usefull tip ;-)
@OP: Did it work for you?
Before doing anything, make a backup to your external MicroSD card before continuing. Even if this method is very safe, and has been done several times without problems, we can't predict anything that may happen during the process.
RESTORE YOUR TABLET TO STOCK, APPLY ROOT, THEN FLASH A NEW RECOVERY.
This tutorial applies to both P3110 and P3113. They are the exact same models.
REQUIRED:
Odin ( Take any version you wish. The latest ones should do the trick )
The stock Firmware file. Concerning this part, Google is your friend.
The official Samsung USB Cable that came with your tablet. It is recommended (but optional) to connect your tablet into your computer's built-in USB ports.
The latest Odin-flashable recovery. ( P3113 uses P3110 files )
CF-Auto-Root
Patience
Returning your device to a like-new state.:
1. Boot into Recovery Mode. This can be achieved by holding Volume Up + Power when your device is powered off.
2. Wipe all data. [ Factory Reset ( /data /cache ), System ( /system ) and Internal Data ( /media/storage )
3. Reboot into Download Mode. Usually found on the Advanced Options of most CWM-based recoveries.
It happens that your Tablet cannot boot into Download Mode due to various reasons. There is a battery trick that can be achieved. Do it when you absolutely cannot boot into Download Mode.
1. Remove your tablet's battery.
2. Connect your tablet to your computer
3. Your device should automatically boot into Download Mode.
4. Put back your Battery back into your device.

4. Connect your Tab to your Computer

Hi, I have PA installed with TWRP installed. I downloaded my firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/. Do I need to flash the stock kernel as well? and stock recovery? Sorry for the noob question.
Maybe I'm just missing it, but I've gone to a couple of firmware sites and I can't find US firmware. Is there anywhere I can get that?
Does anyone have a link that's not to one of these stupid-ass, lame, @#$%ing pay download sites?

I have a similar situation. A previous rooting operation on my Tab2 7 P3113TS was either bad or partial and it appears it will not go into the download mode. power-pgup, power-pgdn, or just power all go to the Samsung splash screen then to a blue VeinDroid rom screen but no further. I tried 3 different version of ODIN and all recognize the device (port goes yellow) but cannot communicate. It stops at the SetupConnection step. Is this thing toast or is there something I'm missing?
WaryLouka said:
If a message is shown, press Volume Up. If you can't enter downloadmode normally, try doing "adb reboot download" in ADB. If you still can't, connect your phone to your computer, REMOVE THE BATTERY, hold Volume Up/Down + Power until DownloadMode is entered and put the battery in again. If your phone doesn't boot or/and battery trick doesn't work, use an USB Jig. If theres no usb jig, while until the battery icon is shown ( charging ) then do "adb reboot download" in ADB.

**Update**
ivanoterra and myself have both used CF-Auto Root on our GE S4's and we both can confirm that it has worked.
this is the file we used: http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip

More good news, I flashed TWRP using Odin and it worked! TWRP found here: http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/182

Hi folks,
Just got my GE S4 this morning. So far it's awesome. The only problem is that I'm so eager to root this phone and I cannot find any information on how to do it. Any ideas? I'm doubting it's as simple as just using the same method as the regular S4's, but I could easily be wrong.
Also, any information on whether there will be a sub-forum for the GE phones?
Thanks!
Same here

I think we'll have to wait for a custom recovery before we can root, methinks.
If you're feeling saucy, you can try 'fastboot oem unlock' and see what that does? (Warning: it may wipe your device, it does for my nexus 10)
EDIT: Looks like auto-root does fastboot oem unlock if you're not unlocked.

Ill try that in a moment... Its recovering my apps... Its like 250 apps.. Its on 32%...
But i guess it wont show as custom, GE edition has a Unlocked Bootloader. It was made to be custom rom friendly....
Even if it counts... It wont matter... Probably a counter reseter will solve it...

Nooooo... You dont know how to flash ?
read the instructions there:
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)

I know how. I've done it many times before this. While flashing, odin crashed. :crying:
Is it possible to flash the GE firmware on the international version? If yes does anyone have a guide?
Okay, it worked. Thought my phone was bricked. I used a different version of Odin and it stopped crashing and worked.
I can now confirm that Auto Root works on the GE S4!
Download mode shows that I'm on a custom binary now. It still says "Write Protection: Enable"
I'm curious to find out what that means. The bootloader is already unlocked. I wonder if a certain partition is locked.
I guess the next question to answer is: Can we use the same recoveries as the i9505? I hope so..

I might be wrong but I don't think download mode supports fastboot. Either that, or I'm doing something wrong. With my phone in download mode and my S4 connected, the command "fastboot devices" doesn't show any devices, but when I plug my N4 in, it shows up. Is there a special fastboot mode that is different from download mode?

Unfortunately it sounds like you might have a clone note 4, not the real thing. I've owned a few Samsung from different parts of the world but as far as I remember download mode was always in English on all of them. I could be wrong, but that's just my 2 cents...

That is my feeling too but IMEI checked out which probably doesn't mean anything and on inside under the battery it says N910F . Maybe Samsung could tell me if it is a clone , is there any other way to check besides IMEI ? That is what i get in download mode

There's an app on Play Store called Phone INFO *samsung* that might be helpful. By the looks of the pic I think it's a clone, I thought maybe your phone had the correct looking download mode and it was just written in Chinese (like maybe you had a chinese bootloader/download mode) but that screen shot looks nothing like download mode on any Samsung device I've ever seen except on clone devices. Sorry I do not have more useful or positive info. Good luck!
