[Q] USB webcam as default - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I recently found out how easy it is to connect your USB webcam to the Nexus 7 & use it as a camera using the Simplewebcam or DashCam applications.
Now I would prefer to use one of the feature-heavy dashboard camera applications in the playstore, however these always use the internal camera.
So my basic question is: is there any way to trick the Nexus into thinking the USB webcam is actually the built-in camera?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Nexus 7(2012) Webcam OTG Issue

Hi, i am looking to use webcam(s) with my Nexus7 to run AR navigation apps like Navigate 6 or iOnRoad however have been unsuccessful in getting the webcam to work with Nexus 7 in this form
I am running Timur's USB ROM - apps like simplewebcam run absolutely fine and project the webcam images through the N7 however when i attempt to use the native camera thru this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2100452&page=4 method. The native camera app closes with "unfortunately, gallery has stopped"every single time. i also attempted to browse through similar threads but haven't been successful. I have already tried restoring to factory settings, switched ROMs (including Stock) and yet no avail.
I want to eliminate the need of using 2 different apps for dashcam and navigation hence this requirement (desperation). I am a complete n00b however have one medal to my credit : was able to get a powermate to work with the N7
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Found a way to bypass HDCP

Just wanted to share this with you all.
I found a way to bypass hdcp (drm)
First enable developer mode
then activate simulated second view (protected)
Launch the app that blocks hdmi out
connect hdmi cable
press the home button
go back to dev options and disable second view simulation
go back to the app
Bingo...

making smartphone camera stream live feed to laptop
Hello,
I'm looking to be able to capture a live feed (I.e. web cam or cctv function) from a smartphone to my laptop via usb 3.0
I'm leaning towards the galaxy s5 as its video camera has all the features I need. Just the one hang up with the hdcp.
I have video capturing software that requires the laptop to recognize the camera as an imaging device in device manager.
Any thoughts on work arounds for this to happen?
Thanks in advance.
August 2020 and I confirm, this still works.
Thank you so much
doesnt work anymore

UVC USB Webcam support for native Android Camera?

I wish I could post this in the Developer section, but the XDA forum wont allow me to as a new user, so it will have to go here instead. Hopefully it gets viewed by someone that can help.
My question is whether the new upcoming firmware (supposedly being worked on by Mad Catz), or any other unofficial firmware (CM12, Android TV, Remix 2.0) will ever have support for USB webcams to be used for Skype, Facebook Messenger, Camera, etc.
So far, I have had great success at getting apps from the Google Play Store to recognize both the video and audio drivers to be utiliizd in the app for taking pictures/video. However, the Skype app doesn't recognize the webcam because it isn't built-in like it would be on a smartphone.
Would it be possible to trick the firmware into thinking a USB webcam is a built-in camera? Or would something like that require further firmware support? So far, I can't find any apps that will do it.
In addition, I have found information elsewhere that relates to this same subject for other android TV boxes, which seems to prove that this stems from the firmware.

Question about an usb dvr camera app

Hello,
I get this forum is for mainly mcus, but I didn't find any better place to post this. The question is, is there a better application to use with this dvr camera : VicTsing 1080P https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32968920075.html ? It uses some custom Chinese app that honestly quite junk, so I tried a few new but those didn't seem to work.
So, has anyone had experience with this or found a working app for it?
