I have to make video of a demo we are doing at my work. I would like to use my nexus 10, BUT I would like to attach a webcam that I ahve via usb to it. I want to do this so it is easier to set up the camera without having to figure out a way to balance the nexus on something.
I have a microsoft lifecam that I want use.
thoughts?

I'm using Ubuntu, but I'm guessing that isn't as much of a limitation as what Android gives us.
Probably the answer is "no" but it never hurts to ask. There doesn't seem to be an option in the PC Connection type that would even allow any software on a computer to access the hardware of the device aside from accessing files.
while i dont know of such an app, i dont think its impossible or even hard to write such an app. there are video recording apps, so all u gotta do is send that data over the usb, maybe using debugging mode.
that being said, i am too overworked to write an app like that and i have a webcam, but its an idea for any budding android developer.
have you tried the app ustream?
The app called QIK is not really a webcam but allows you to stream videos live from your device where you can have anyone you choose watch them online. Search for it in the Market it's free. Just a thought.
found this, but i can't get it to work on my nexus.

but it is fully open sourced if anyone wanted to dig into it and see what's going on with it.
I'd think it would be pretty awesome if someone got this working.
Ustream.tv has an app to broadcast and another app to watch broadcasted streams. The best part about ustream is that it is also viewable within your Internet browser on incredible. Also for the app that broadcasts it has option to also record what you've broadcasted. I recommend checking it out.
I am looking for apps that will allow me to use my usb webcam on my Iconia. Anyone know of an app or even know that it is possible?
I doubt that you'll be able to use it anytime soon unless you have the proper drivers for it AND a program that let's you choose which camera to use.
IP can viewer by Robert Chou; available on the Market. This app rocks. I have three web cans hooked in w/matrix mode on my Iconia and my T-bolt. There is a free and a paid version. I liked it so much I purchased the paid. Bonus: the developer responds to your emails.
Take a look at this:
Try searching You Tube for 'Usage of USB webcam with Iconia Tab A500'
Some links to source code there also. I Haven't tried it yet but it does look promising.
Hey everyone,
I will be getting my nexus 7 in a couple days now! (finally!) and I was wondering if any of you have experience with a good app for simple photo editing?
Let me explain what i do. I usually edit my photos with my netbook using picasa. I only change a bit of contrast, shadows, highlights, add some fill lights and crop if needed, that's it, almost no filters etc.
I already got a usb otg adapter and a card reader so that I could edit on the road with just my camera and tablet.
Could anyone share there experiences with something like that?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link but here's the 2nd comment in the link, which is what I want to do so it basically makes it useless for me.
BAD file management! You have to save your files to their new "cloud" system. I can't save as a .jpg, etc. on my own tablet, nor can I access via usb cable. A Great Program, but forcing me to use Another Cloud System makes it a deal breaker for me. And they don't support full resolution pictures.
Picsay https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shinycore.picsaypro
There is a free version
Skitch https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote.skitch
Photoshop Touch is arguably the best but the Play Store says it isn't Nexus 7 compatible. It's perfectly compatible if you side load it, however. If you use Picasa then PS Touch is probably overkill, in which case I'd suggest Photo Editor (by Macgyver), Snaptastic, or Picshop, all very easy to use, all with slightly different features.

Has anyone tried this? Apperantly you can mirror android or a whole bunch of OS's with a MirrorOp app and the Mctivia reciever. Just seeing if anyone has this and has used it with the Nexus 7.
Here is a youtube video of android mirroring.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBktJ6tT6r8
Here is a link to the mirrorop site... http://www.mirrorop.com/index.html
Here is a link to the Mctivia receiver site.... http://www.awindinc.com/mctivia/
Let me know what you think..
Thanks!
+1 Has anyone tried this with the N7?!?
very interested in hearing how this works
Yes, MirrorOp Sender works with my Nexus 7. You can download their Windows Receiver to try mirroring N7 to Windows PC first. But you need to root your N7. Hope Google can open screen capture permission for these kind of screen capture apps to work without rooting. N7 doesn't support Miracast and MHL.Google should open the door for the software developers to develop screen mirroring apps on Android OS.

I thought the great advantage, the very ethos, of Android OS is that it was open source and you wouldn't have any proprietary BS games like apple plays. But here Google goes limiting this otherwise fantastic device for no good reason. I'll by an mhl adaptor. They don't even have to add a port. Just let me mirror my screen!
Hi guys
I recently found out how easy it is to connect your USB webcam to the Nexus 7 & use it as a camera using the Simplewebcam or DashCam applications.
Now I would prefer to use one of the feature-heavy dashboard camera applications in the playstore, however these always use the internal camera.
So my basic question is: is there any way to trick the Nexus into thinking the USB webcam is actually the built-in camera?
Thanks in advance!
