Download and Open terminal emulator from Play store .... type these code and it would tell you what is your bootloader. if u lucky enough with MDB/MDL then u just install any custom 4.3 or even 4.4 kitkat rom.
Code:
su
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader

You seem to already have a custom recovery on the phone. If so, you should be able to flash pacman from your custom recovery.

So you just have to look for roms compatible with your build. Do not flash KitKat roms unless they are rooted.

Purchased S4 phone Help

Hi I purchased an At&T phone from ebay. model I337. its is rooted, and appears to have Ktwearker and Supersu. Its on Jellybean 4.2.2. My question is this, The seller said it is build MDL. but when I go to about phone it says MF3. Im not sure if there is a rom installed, looks almost the same as stock but does not have the option to save apps to SD card like the Mf3 version does. How do I tell if this is truly MDL build?
Try boring into custom recovery.

It booted up into custome recover, screen is pink says Philz touch 5
Then it was rooted while on MDL firmware. You are good to go to flash a new rom.

Baseband is JUST which modem you have installed. I have a baseband of MF3 but I have MDB bootloaders. So you cannot go JUST by what the baseband says.

Like mentioned above you know your rooted and on mdl/mdb firmware since you have a custom recovery and not samsungs stock recovery. Welcome to the club and find yourself a rom!!!

Easy way to do it is to wait for the notification to show up again. Go into the notification pane (drag down from the top of the screen), long press on the notification itself, go to App Info and then uncheck the Notification box in there.

Just a small clarification. You don't have to be rooted. That may work too, but I've always done the updates with an un-rooted stock ROM and recovery.

Yes I know that you can unroot and still update that way but people tend to take updates when they are rooted with mods for some reason and then come ask ehy cant I take update. so yeah I said that just to safe the process of odining back to stock.

Are you certain that you are writing 4.4 versions and not 4.3 versions? Everything kernel and recovery related is (slightly) different between 4.3 and 4.4, and because of the downgrade restrictions in 4.4 you can never write 4.3 stuff!
Yep tried different updated kernels.
Would the write protected has anything to do with it when i am in download mode?
After i updated to kitkat i also cant delete files anymore with a.o. xplore.
Maybe its related?
Grtz

Thanks man for your post.
I checked the reactivation lock box a while ago and that seemed to be the problem.
Already had the right kernel.
After installing cwm to become root had to install superSU 1.91.zip
Thru cwm.
The thick red sentence warning wasn't large enough ☺

You can't Odin an older version since Touchwiz 4.3. I don't know why you would either. It also looks like you're trying to Odin a file for the L720.... which also won't work. Use a newer file like OD2 if you just want to go to stock.
