i have no idea
How do I check?
14w17 And i seem to have all the fault's you mention. Phone is still water tight though, Yes i tested. Question though, on the later batch's are the overheating none existing?
14W6
4 pin headset with one button remote doesn't work. Other headphones work.
I must be one of the lucky ones with 14W17.. zero defects
14W16 - zero faults, everything allright!

Erm, already made a thread regarding this topic When was your Z2 manufactured? which has many posts now (21 pages) so it might be a good idea if you comb over it and establish/tally the defects everyone has with their phones rather then having people repeat themselves.

The gap on your phone, won't affect the waterproofing of the phone, to my design and technology knowledge, the phone is patch together and seal with a epoxy glue / 3m adhesive which resist water but over time like if you use your phone 30 minutes underwater every time after one month, im 100 % sure that it will separate himself from the chasis and this glue is available on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/3M-STICKER-ADHESIVE-TAPE-CELLPHONE-DIGITIZER-TOUCH-LCD-DISPLAY-SCREEN-REPAIR-/281158086161?tfrom=300959789160&tpos=top&ttype=price&talgo=undefined
BUT ONCE IT IS OPENED THERE'S NO WAY TO MAKE IT WATERPOOF AGAIN ! APART THAT YOU HAVE A HEAT GUN AND YOU HEAT THE 3M TAPE THEN YOU STICK IT OVER AND IT SHOULD BOND TOGETHER AND DO NOT PLACE YOUR PHONE IS SALTWATER IT AFFECTS THE MOTHERBOARD.
HOPE THIS HELP SIR

I have had the same issue at times. I use a pre-moistened lens cloth to help clean it up and remove any debris.

Same here. I've received 2 replacement handsets (TMo Dash 3G) because of the trackball. Does the moistened wipe help?

Reminds me of the well-known problem on the HTC Tornado back in the day. A lot of people suffered the same issue on that phone too.

I have had the same issue at time too..if you still think about your warranty then go to local service center..and clean the phone..
or...
you can try the tips below:
http://www.berryreview.com/2008/12/22/faq-how-do-you-clean-your-trackball/
Wal-Mart sells these individually wrapped, pre-moistened lens cleaner cloths (kind of like the hand cleaner packages you get at some restaurants).
Anyway, they’re called Zeiss Lens Cloths and they sell them in the Optical Section, up front where they sell eye glasses. They clean the BB from top to bottom extremely well and help brighten and clean the trackball. Package of 50 is like 2 bucks.
I find with the q-tip method the cotton sticks to the trackball. my 2c
xavier – thanks for your post, i tried your suggestion for the Zeiss Lens Cloth premoistened wipes and it worked perfectly and I did not have to open the Blackberry Bold to solve the problem. I keep these wipes around for numerous uses in dealing with eye glasses, lens, or other similar uses. Thanks again.

If you have the warranty, might as well just take it in, but I have the cloths all ready, so I just clean it.
The pre-moistend lens cloths are used with the device intact. I just wipe down the trackball real well, rotate it a bit and continue cleaning until it rolls freely.
It happened also to me couple of times. Just blow quickly at the trackball using your lips or presurized air for computer keyboards. Not sure about any wet "ass wipes" which may leak into the phone inside. My method always works (so far) Service repair is last instance. Good luck!
The wipes don't help, the track ball opperates on a magnetic principle (the pick ups are soldered on the main board, the movment is controled by magnetic cylinders.) I had to send my phone in to htc after about two months, they replaced the main board and trackball assy. I had it appart also, there was nothing to clean, nor to fix. All sold state. (except the little rollers)

another tips how to clean your trackball using straw
http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/trackball-will-not-scroll-down-276266/#post3298104
Ok so I was having the exact same problem, and I used to do tech support for these devices so I kno that they work just like a PC mouse. So..... wat I did is I took a straw cut it long way down (hotdog style if you remember how to do that from 1st grade haha) it into a very small size, about just enough to wrap around the trackball half way. Then I inserted the straw into the slot between the chrome and the trackball (this part can take some time so just be patient) you will be surprised how deep it can go, I went all the way till it stopped. Now you will have the straw sticking out of the BOLD. Bend the rest of the straw down so it is now folded parallel to the bold but still sticking in it. Now wat I did is I spent it clock wise for about a minute then yanked it out and you will notice a ton of lint/dirt pop out, after this you will want to blow on it while rolling with your finger in all directions. You should be seeing a lot of dirt rolling around by now, and also the straw will have a tiny bit of wear on it. Proceed to do this as much as you like but doing so in 1 direction will produce more dirt. I went clockwise about 5 times then counter clockwise about another 5. Then viola it was like brand new. Hope this works for you crackberry heads out there. Deuces!!

well, i suppose you could get some dirt in between the cylinder and the pickup chip... unfortunately the ball is not removable on the dash, it only comes out if the phone is taken appart.

nope this method is to clean the container of ball inside from outside without to open phone case...
to pull out the ball you must open the snap case totally.

I Just disassembly my HTC Snap s522 to clean the trackball today,
I can confirm you now guys..the htc snap s522 trackball is same type like blackberry 8310 trackball..so you can replace your trackball with BB 8310 trackball.
I just tried my friend Blackberry 8310 trackball and tried to running it on my snap..and it worked well.
you guys are looking too deep into this lol. this happened to me just push the ball in and move it around it will start working again

our snap use same type like blackberry trackball and sometimes the trackball will stop working till 6 months of use..(base on report at BB forum) the ball will become slick after 6 month.
you will need to know how to replace the ball (after 1 year service guarantee expired) anyway..thats why i concern about the trackball..
For me Being to know i can use the bb trackball on my snap is great..because cheap aftermarket BB trackball is everywhere in my country only $4 (include trackball house) compare to costly oem ball (will cost you about $20)
My tips:
You just need to keep the OEM trackball house and use the cheap aftermarket ball on it, you willl still has HTC OEM trackball performance on your snap.

Hello guys .
I had my htc one for 3 months now , and today i dropped it having a dent on the edge which prevented me from using the volume buttons ; So i finally i made my mind to tear it apart . Took me several hours (have an exam on monday so was not giving full attention on the phone)
It was easy to take apart .
used a hair dryer to heat up the phone and removed the bottom speaker cover and it was pretty easy and using a blade moved up on both sides for several times , but nothing was separating , so i did the same thing on the top and using a guitar pick inserting the guitar pic on the top pushed back the white poly-carbonate and then after some efforts the back housing finally separated . Everything is working i did damage the poly-carbonate. But i did not have a new housing to change with , will post a video and pics once i have it . I dont have the money to buy one today . Will borrow from parents and order one on monday

Taking it apart was never the problem, the problem was taking it apart without damaging the phone, mostly by prying it open and damaging the finish.
John.
Try putting it back together now.
Disassembling stuff is mostly straightforward, however assembling it back can be a PITA..
If you are able to take apart the phone without damaging anything except for the back, then you are absolutely awesome.
That's all we need to be able to do. The replacement back is only 25 dollars. If it is easy to remove the back and put on a new one, then this will come in handy for people who scratched or dented their backs or cracked their camera lenses. Also, once OEM parts for the red and blue are available, we'll be able to change the colors of our phones to our liking.
Again, awesome.
If you look at the op`s photo in post 2, the right hand side of the back case looks like something has been chewing at it.

HTC One Repairability Score: One out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)
Very, very difficult (possibly impossible?) to open the device without damaging the rear case. This makes every component extremely difficult to replace.
The battery is buried beneath the motherboard and adhered to the midframe, hindering its replacement.
The display assembly cannot be replaced without removing the rear case—this will make the most common repair, a damaged screen, nearly impossible.
Copper shielding on many components is difficult to remove and replace.
Solid external construction improves durability....
See for them it's difficult -.- . Just wanted to say it's not

Its information for which some people may find useful............so why is it useless?
You may also wish trying to learn how to spell as well. At least the 16 year old OP gets that correct.
UPDATED as of 10 MAY 2015..
Skanob said:
The final update and nail on the coffin:
I have confirmed that my fix for the camera module has PERMANENTLY FIXED the two M7s that I have applied the fix to since the date of the OP (July 2014).
"But wait!", you say, "why didn't it fix my camera on my phone? You're a load of bull!"
The answer for that is in post #110. READ. THE. DAMN. THING.
Prior of you doing the fix to your phone, your camera module has already been permanently damaged and there is no other way for you to fix this but to replace it WITH A NON-DAMAGED CAMERA MODULE, OR OMNIVISION.
Let us all be clear of that!
I am lucky that I have done (thought of) this fix before getting the camera module stuffed up.
How did I know that it has fixed it permanently?
I have recorded a video in 720p (on the 3rd of May, 2015, think what it is) from one of the phones (GPe converted, official Lollipop ROM using Google Camera, same phone that I've used on the proof video on OP) that I've got the fix applied for a whopping 1 hour and 15 minutes NON-STOP! The phone heated up alright to a staggering 53 degrees Celsius (as the phone indicates). I was surprised at this stage that the phone hasn't turned itself off automatically thermally, which the phone has on. I did see a small amount of purple tint haze when I tried stopping the recording then opened the camera app again. I immediately turned it off to cool it down. Waited approx. 30 mins to turn it on. Tried it and voila, no purple tint haze. Having to encounter this, I now have a peace of mind that I wouldn't have the issue again, and very confident that it has fixed the thermal handling of the camera module.
Having to rant and vent this out, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE (hoping for humanity) anyone posting saying that this didn't work, instead, post or say that YOUR CAMERA MODULE HAS ALREADY BEEN PERMANENTLY DAMAGED prior to applying the fix!

Why does it work?
There are two things that needs to be done:
1. Increasing the amount of heat that can be removed.
The idea is to increase the capability of removing heat from the camera module itself. And, hopefully, by increasing or re-covering the thermal copper tape with another one, the capacity of these tapes that it can handle is doubled.
2. Redirecting the heat.
Having said the above, while still these copper tapes can only hold such amount of heat, once they have reached their limit, there is no other place to put that heat away from themselves. Then the only viable option is redirecting them to somewhere, to the middle panel.
Someone has recommended to put a thermal paste on it to improve it more. For me, this is an option, albeit if you have one lying around.
Refer to this thread for the sources of these ideas.

Skip removing the battery, display module, and the front camera, all of them are unnecessary.

Remove the back cover.
Remove ALL cables connected, AND I MEAN ALL.. Start from the bottom area of the phone, going up. The idea is to remove your battery flex cable (screwed) first.
Remove ALL screws. (for noob-proofness sake)
Remove the mother board.
Remove the daughter board.
Remove the Back Camera from the daughter board.
Do the fix.
Repeat steps from the bottom to top, opposite way.
You MUST pay close attention on what you are doing.
If you cannot do these, or doesn't have the heart to do them, I'm afraid this fix is not for you.
...
Make sure that when you put the back cover, it is exactly the opposite way of how you disconnected it. by starting on the right hand side (opposite of volume bottom when looking at the back of the phone), settle it properly, then pop it in.

You need only to RE-COVER the copper tape already on the camera module!
DO NOT REMOVE the rubber fillings on the camera module, they are there for a reason, which is to keep it in-place.
2. Hhmm..
Like you see on the video, make a tape roll. You know how to do that, right..?
The tape roll must stick to the front panel AND the back of the camera module. Get it?

Based on my test, for 2 months. It could be permanent already. I'm giving it until November (summer time, surrounding temperature might affect the phone too) and see if it is the same.
But as of now, the 2 M7s that I have fixed is working fine. No more purple tint issue. Left the phone on its camera while sitting on its back for about an hour, NO purple haze or anything. Phone also handles the heat better as well.

What? The problem is heat. By putting a connection (copper tape) between the camera, and to the middle panel at the back of the LCD, you redirect that heat to a bigger conductor.
Note: the fix depicted below is only a plausible fix and it assumes the screen/digitizer itself is not faulty. If you intend to follow it, be aware that a faulty screen can be a possibility, so RMA if you can. Unlike the other software fixes out there, tampering with the hardware is a one-way trip and will void your warranty.
Ever since I got the OnePlus One, I've been having issues with the touchscreen. Some touches weren't being registered, and sometimes when I'm scrolling, something along the way would be touched instead. Double taps turned into single taps, the camera shutter button was hard to touch, and typing was unpredictable. The list goes on.
OnePlus has addressed this issue as a "software bug" (just like the yellow tint), and promised to fix it in future updates. It worked for some, and I did notice some improvement, but it just wasn't good enough for me. I thought all the software did was merely filter or mask the effects of the grounding issue, and anticipated or extrapolated touches made by the user.
No matter which ROM or which version of CM11S I used, the touchscreen was never quite perfect. At some point, I knew for sure it wasn't simply a "software bug", because I've tried numerous kernels and ROMs, to no avail.
So, I went on a little investigation, because I'm actually quite familiar with problems like this. The iPad Mini suffers from a very similar grounding issue when the digitzer gets replaced. The original digitizers are all insulated properly from the factory, but when it breaks and needs to be replaced, the replacement screens don't come with the insulating tape pre-installed. If not insulated, the digitizer makes contact with the inside of the aluminum unibody, and thus creates the grounding issue.
The tape insulating the touchscreen circuits has to be moved over from the original, broken screen to the new screen in order to prevent the issue. See the original, broken iPad Mini digitizer (left, bottom) compared to a new, replacement digitizer (left, top):
{

}
Note how there are areas of the iPad's chassis that can make contact with the digitizer if not isolated.
I was 90% sure that something similar was going on with the OnePlus One. And I was right.
I fully disassembled my OnePlus One (for the second time), but this time around, I removed the screen as well. I didn't do it the first time because it's a risky operation; I might damage the only screen I had during the process, and it won't be as secure of a bond as before. But YOLO, right?
Here are the instructions on how to do it yourself!
As suspected, the digitizer flex makes direct contact to the metallic chassis before being connected to the logic board, just like the iPad Mini does with a replacement screen.
And sure enough, when the flex is isolated from the chassis, the problem disappeared. The phone had no problem registering all 10 touches, and every touch was more responsive than ever.
Debug mode, hardware edition!
So the fix was quite obvious; insulate that digitizer flex! I cut some of the insulating tape from the iPad Mini's digitizer and stuck it on the chassis where it was touching the flex. Any thin tape will do though.
I then reassembled the One, and as expected, the touchscreen now works perfectly. No more ghost touches, and no more grounding issue. I'm as happy as Larry
Why, then, did some units suffer more than others, and some received perfectly fine units? Well, here's my hypothesis. Unlike mainstream smartphone manufacturers, who either use properly isolated digitizers and/or double-sided 3M tape, OnePlus neglected the former and used glue instead.
Look closely in the image below - you can clearly see that it isn't tape that's holding the screen in place. That pattern is characteristic of unset glue that's been compressed.
It loses form and stickiness when removed. Double-sided tape retains its shape and doesn't lose stickiness.
Because glue was used, every individual phone most likely had a different clearance between the chassis and the digitizer flex.
From what I heard, the newer units have fixed this problem, but I can't confirm for myself exactly how they fixed it.
So there you have it! As it turns out, it really was a hardware problem (judging from my investigation). It would be great if other forum members can confirm my theory if they have the chance. If you:
Have a One that suffered from this issue
Have a broken screen
Want to try your hand at replacing the screen yourself
Now's a great opportunity!
Really nice investigation right here! Appreciate it!
Nice find!

I luckily don't have a problem, or the guts to help with the theory. I did however figure it was hardware issue. Had similar issues with nexus 7 (2013) that many people believed to be a grounding issue, although I'm not sure where it may be.

I do have these touch problems on my OPO, most of the time.
Only thing that helped me making my phone useable, is Franco kernel (version 33 at the moment). Using franco kernel makes the phone useable with almost no touch glitches.
So only one kernel to choose from for me at the moment. With all other kernels I ran into ghost touches as soon as the phone got a little warm.
And now I'm trying to figure what is the smartest thing to do, RMA the phone, or just keep using franco kernel and enjoy my otherwise errorfree OPO?
As I read it takes about 4 weeks from sending in the faulty phone, to receiving a new one. That's not an easy choice for me, as I don't have another phone that I can use in the meanwhile.
Fixing it myself is not an option either, as my hands simply aren't steady enough.
Choices, choices... [emoji37]

A few months ago, we became aware that
some users were experiencing problems
with their touch screen and immediately
investigated the possible cause. After
multiple hardware tests at our factory and
troubleshooting with our partners at
Synaptics and Cyanogen, we determined
the best solution would be a software
update. While a recent update proved a
successful fix for a vast majority of
affected users, some of our fans are still
having trouble.
We’ve seen a thread from a user who
appeared to fix his device by insulating
the digitizer flex. Our engineers attempted
to recreate the problem as described in
the forum post (on both older and newer
devices) by removing the glue that was
insulating the flex and making sure that it
was in contact with metal parts of the
phone. But, tests showed that even with
this alteration, the touch screen continued
to register all touches successfully. We
are working on further testing to prove
this user’s hypothesis true or false, and
we will publish a video to show our tests
and results. We strongly advise against
other users attempting the same
procedure. Dismantling the phone in this
manner will void your warranty and could
cause injuries to yourself or damage your
phone.
For anyone still experiencing trouble with
their touch screen, we assure you that we
are actively looking into this matter. If we
find the problem to be hardware-related,
we will have a plan to help those users.

Looks like pretty much this
UPDATE 1:
The general concern is this: if the digitizer flex makes direct contact with the metallic chassis, a ground fault occurs leading to touchscreen abnormalities.
Theoretically, this shouldn’t be an issue as preventative measures were engineered into the design of the OnePlus One. There is a piece of plastic overlayed on the metal casing which insures uniform spacing and prevents ground issues. Additionally, there is insulation PI around the flexible printed circuit (FPC) and sealant at the bottom of the bonding. So, even if the digitizer flex makes direct contact with the metallic chassis, no undesirable touchscreen effects should occur.
However, we’ve gone into the lab to test the OnePlus One in an attempt to re-create the proposed issue. In order to test a worst case scenario, our engineers have overlaid the area with highly-conductive metal to ensure that potential ground issues will be apparent. Please note that we tested both older and newer models of the OnePlus One with the latest Synaptics firmware.
As you can see, we were unable to reproduce the touchscreen issues on a hardware level, in regards to the suggested problem.
We believe that the user who managed to solve his issues by adding insulation to the area represents a very small minority of affected users, as we weren’t able to re-create the problem in a lab environment.
That said, we are still taking this issue very seriously, and we are currently running further tests involving static electricity. We will keep everyone updated along the way.

This app has been used for testing:
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=multi touch&c=apps
The number shows the maximum amount of simultanious touches which has been registered previously.
It stays this way, even if you restart the app or even the device.
There's an option to "reset touches" which resets the counter to 0 if you restart the app afterwards.
So the app works as intended.

Hello, I have used this guide to fix my grounding issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/repair-guide-oneplus-one-disassembly-t2979351
Everything went fine exept I could not use two laywers of 3M tape (1mm and 3mm)
But I used one laywer and that went very well.
With two laywers I was not able to get the display in to the mid-frame .
And I put electric tape to isulate the digitizerflex just like the pictures.
But it did not do any diffrence, the phone still has the same grounding issue.
Does anybody have any tip on what I should/could do?
Thanks /P1an

No I did not. It seemed hard to do from the pictures in the guide.
Yes it does, home in Sweden (cold) my phone works pretty okey, maybe a little bit better after the teardown.
But I was on vacation in Egypt like (30-35 C) about 1 mouth ago and over there it was terrible.
Before Egypt i did not have any problems.
I have tried having the phone in the bed and under a cover at home so it gets like bodytempreture and then I have more touch issues. (This was before the disassemble)
I tried the same thing now but could not replicate the problem.
Now it's just semi bad all the time.

Try putting tape on the back of the LCD (along the left, right and top edges) such that it is insulated from the chassis too. If that doesn't help, then the digitizer itself may be faulty
Though probably not as easy as the S5, it still is technically removable and you can change the battery if you follow the directions, its in the Galaxy S6 manual on page 138

I wonder what's actually holding the glass cover on. It just says remove it. It can't just be laying on there. Maybe some type of adhesive that has to be heated. Either way, it seems that it will be easy to replace the battery.

Yeah I read it was some adhesive. I hear you just need to heat the phone to melt the adhesive (apparently there is a video someone doing it with a blowdryer [Not with a Galaxy S6 but with another phone]), the pull the cover off and go on from there...doesn't seem that hard to do

Yep any phone repair place worth their salt will have a precise setup already in place for this, I obviously haven't seen the new Galaxies but its about a 45 minute process on the Zs and they're considered by our team to be a real pain relatively speaking.
Two thoughts come to mind. First, I do battery-pull reboots of my S5 all the time (it black screen locks up due to a hardware issue) and I think most of us that flash ROMs have done the same a few times over the years. For instance, how would you get out of download mode if you don't flash anything? I hope that's addressed somewhere.
Second, I hope it comes with everything it needs for wireless charging out of the box. The S5 supports it but needs a coil inserted inside the back cover. I hope that all goes down easily because I've switched to completely wireless charging these days.

Ive used the one plus one, the LG G2, and the HTC one m7 all without removable backs. You just hold the power button. no matter where are you in the system partition, (recovery, system or download mode or fastboot mode) holding the power button will yield a reboot or a power off state. and to reply to this thread, its not an easy thing the average joe can do but i myself fix friends phones and have a heatgun so heating up the back glass to soften the adhesive and chnage the battery after the first or second year doesnt look like it'll be a problem. the problem i do have however is if the phone rejects the new battery. my LG G2 rejected the newer battery and that thing would die at 50% and not charge all the way. even after calibration. but back its original battery and everything worked fine again

(1) For phones with non-removable batteries, there are certain buttons held together to perform hard reset, which is pretty much the same as a battery pull. I think for Samsung devices is Vol Down + Home Button
(2) The S6 is capable of wireless charging out the box, but its confirmed it will not come with a wireless charger in the box. The wireless charger is sold separately for $59.99

The back will be adhered using some sort of adhesive, which is considerably difficult to remove by a user with little/no phone repair experience. As noted by the manual, those instructions "are only for your service provider or an authorised repair agent." By this logic, every smartphone (even the HTC One's sandwiched design) has a removable battery, just of varying process complexity.

Work in phone repairs.
Many phones require adhesive heating to get to the internals.
All the Sony's Z's, for example.

If we're comparing Samsungs with Sonys, the S6 is more similar to the Z1 than it is to the Z3, because it also involves unscrewing a cover that covers the logic board. But in fact, the S6 is actually very similar to the S5 in that the back housing covering the internals also makes up the side bezel of the phone, albeit being disassembled screen-first, and it is not made of metal/glass. Otherwise, both the S5 and S6 have a mid-frame chassis on which the logic board is mounted on, covered by the back housing then the battery cover.

The Z3 in that video has been prepared in advance. Take a look at this video, and skip to 2:55:
The Z2 and Z3 both have that stretchy white adhesive holding the back down in the middle. If you expect the Z3's back cover to come off that easily, you're gonna have a bad time.

Out of curiousity, is it a special adhesive that cannot be purchased in stores? Say a laymen person was to remove it on his own by watching a YouTube video. How would he be able to put the cover back on tightly?

There are two ways of re-applying that adhesive:
1. Use a roll of black 3M tape, and cut it by hand and sticking it around the perimeter of the glass
2. Buy pre-cut double-sided tape that is made specifically for your application (recommended)
Pictured below is a typical roll of 3M tape, underneath a typical pre-cut tape:
The former may be able to be purchased in a hardware store, but the latter may not.
