Best root method to use today? Still on 4.3 - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have healed off on rooting, but the OTA popup is forcing my hand. I have been browsing through the forum, looking at the available root methods, but I am starting to get a little confused.
Which root method would you recommend for 4.3 that has an upgrade path to 4.4.2?
Links to the forum posts with instructions / download links will be much appreciated, as I have tried downloading a few only to find the links no longer working / the download no longer available.
Thank you,

Try web searches for kingo snd vroot.

Kingo is the best method but most people have no luck either using the latest version or finding an older one. Vroot works but it is mostly in another language. A little hard to use.

[Q] S4 Canadian Virgin Mobile - Rooting Troubles

Hi All,
I've spent all day trying to figure this out. I'm a pretty tech-saavy dude too, so I've finally decided to join this forum to post for help.
Carrier
Virgin Mobile
Model Number:
SGH-1337M
Baseband Version
I337MVLUAMG1
Kernel Version
3.4.0-897376

Build Number

I've followed numerous guides and even 'successfully' rooted my phone using Odin, however when I launch applications like 'RootCheck' and 'Titanium' they both tell me it's not rooted, even though everything went as planned.
My gut feeling, based on some research, is that the stock firmware is overwriting my rooting stuff (I don't know the terminology yet!) when it boots up.
Anyway, I really want to root this bad boy! I just switched to the S4 after 6 long years of iPhones so I'm real stoked to get it feeling the way I want.
Could someone provide me a link to some proper files? I think that's where I get lost.
I currently already have downloaded and attempted to root using this:
- Samsung USB Driver (just verifying I do have this)
- Odin v3.07
- CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.tar
Thanks in advance!

You need to go to the att gs4 forum not the international forum they won't know what your talking about. As for modding yes your SOL you can still root using the vroot method but as for installing custom Roms there is no possible way to do it since safestrap mf3. 2 updates ago

There are 2 different threads in this forum that deal with the 720T. I suggest you read through both of those threads before you mess up your phone. The 720T is a completely different version of the S4 and can only use software that is designated for the 720T model. That being said, I've heard the Safe Root method works for the 720T, find it here: http://www.droidviews.com/root-verizon-galaxy-s4-sch-i545-on-android-4-3-vruemk2/
You're a lot nicer than I am cruise. I would have made him search. He clearly didn't .

[Q] Is it currently possible to root an AT&T Galaxy S4 (1337) on 4.4.2?

I updated my Galaxy S4 (1337 AT&T) to 4.4.2 KitKat, without realizing that I risked the possibility of not being able to root my phone for a while. Is there any way to root my phone right now? If not, when do you think a root method will be available? I use on a mac running OSX Mavericks at the moment so if there are any methods specifically for macs then please do let me know. Thank you!
You can downgrade to a semi-working 4.3 firmware and then flash a pre-rooted 4.4.2 rom using safestrap. Although this method requires you to use odin at the end so idk if odin works for mac or not.
Further details discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825
There is no traditional root method available, but the root-workaround is an excellent solution to gain root access.
This "index" thread will tell you all you need to know concerning roms, root, etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221

Thanks, when do you estimate a traditional root method will arrive for my phone?
There is no estimate. For future reference, asking for any kind of estimated time is generally frowned upon as the insanely hard working devs here on xda have a ton of stuff on their plates BEFORE you add in actually working on any device. Not trying to sound like one of those asshats that gets all bent out of shape about people who ask for an eta, just giving you the heads up.

Well, with a working root method already available, most devs see no reason or motivation to do something redundant. Since root access is already available.
If our bootloaders were unlocked, then we would be able to use Chainfire's CF-autoroot method.
If I root like this, will I still be able to install custom roms?

Yes, but you are limited to using Safestrap and Touchwiz ROMs.

Heimdall is generally used on the macs--I haven't needed it but you can google and get familiar--I found numerous sites and some are on xda. Always good to read all you can and kinda reconfirm what one site may say or find out it wasn't right for you.
if you haven't this link should help you get adb working on mac
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
best advice was already given by 4ndroid99's link and also get very familiar with SafeStrap for your build. Threads for that are on our forum here also. You can't flash custom recoveries, just what SafeStrap provides.
Also, I have never had luck on my iMac with Keis and my rooted s4--recommend not using it
Good Luck--:good:

OK guys. I need help rooting SM-S975L

Ive tried using every android based one click root method conceivable and still no success rooting. Model Number of course is SM-S975L. I just bought the thing at walmart yesterday and as I understand it's kernel version is causing incompability issues with towelroot (which with extensive research it appears that towelroot is my best option.) and of course root fails (Also tried changing modstrings method). Ive even tried countless Chinese root apps to no avail. I really want a new rom on this thing. (Straight Talk one sucks lol) but Nova Prime saved it somewhat...(like always). Anyway I need help here guys and any is appreciated. I will post screenshots of baseband, Android version, etc. Thanks in advance everyone!!
CF-Autoroot is what you need to root. Also, search the forum. We have an entire thread devoted to your device.
CF-autoroot?
cf-autoroot is used on the computer correct? Also if you would be so kind as to point me in the direction of this mystical thread that's eluding me? lol I really cannot find it to save my life :/

So try using towel root. You can download the apk from the intrrnet. Then install.and run the app. Worked perfect for me.
