i've tried both of these methods by Qbking77
nothing. all i get is a "binary errors" pop up

There are 2 different threads in this forum that deal with the 720T. I suggest you read through both of those threads before you mess up your phone. The 720T is a completely different version of the S4 and can only use software that is designated for the 720T model. That being said, I've heard the Safe Root method works for the 720T, find it here: http://www.droidviews.com/root-verizon-galaxy-s4-sch-i545-on-android-4-3-vruemk2/

You're a lot nicer than I am cruise. I would have made him search. He clearly didn't .

[Q] S4 Canadian Virgin Mobile - Rooting Troubles

Hi All,
I've spent all day trying to figure this out. I'm a pretty tech-saavy dude too, so I've finally decided to join this forum to post for help.

I've followed numerous guides and even 'successfully' rooted my phone using Odin, however when I launch applications like 'RootCheck' and 'Titanium' they both tell me it's not rooted, even though everything went as planned.
My gut feeling, based on some research, is that the stock firmware is overwriting my rooting stuff (I don't know the terminology yet!) when it boots up.
Anyway, I really want to root this bad boy! I just switched to the S4 after 6 long years of iPhones so I'm real stoked to get it feeling the way I want.
Could someone provide me a link to some proper files? I think that's where I get lost.
I currently already have downloaded and attempted to root using this:
- Samsung USB Driver (just verifying I do have this)
- Odin v3.07
- CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.tar
Thanks in advance!

You need to go to the att gs4 forum not the international forum they won't know what your talking about. As for modding yes your SOL you can still root using the vroot method but as for installing custom Roms there is no possible way to do it since safestrap mf3. 2 updates ago

Best root method to use today? Still on 4.3

Hello,
I have healed off on rooting, but the OTA popup is forcing my hand. I have been browsing through the forum, looking at the available root methods, but I am starting to get a little confused.
Which root method would you recommend for 4.3 that has an upgrade path to 4.4.2?
Links to the forum posts with instructions / download links will be much appreciated, as I have tried downloading a few only to find the links no longer working / the download no longer available.
Thank you,

Try web searches for kingo snd vroot.
Kingo is the best method but most people have no luck either using the latest version or finding an older one. Vroot works but it is mostly in another language. A little hard to use.

SGH-I337M custom rom?

need advice on which fully functioning rom will work on my rogers galaxy s4?also how to root?unlock?I have flashed htc windows devices years ago but pretty new to android, was reading one thread but like a thousand pages, wow!!!any advice would be apreciated.
Best place to start is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494
As for ROM recommendations, that's one you'll have to find on your own. We generally don't allow recommendations on threads lest they attract trolls/fanbois and hijack your thread. Besides... you'll never find what you like if you don't explore a little bit.
Best of luck and welcome!

For rooting, look up CF-auto root or kingo root, CF-auto uses odin pc so you may want to read up on that, I use version 3.07, others have used 3.09. For rom choices, you want to make sure you are selecting a rom for i337m, there are also roms for i337 which is the at&t version, if it doesn't specify Canada or i337m I would stay away from it. There are ASOP (sort of a vanila rom) and touch wiz roms suggest you read up on the differences. To flash any rom you need a custom recovery, I use TWRP version 2.6 some say to use 2.5 and I would suggest staying away from the latest and greatest since I have seen a lot of issues using the newest versions. Some people use Philz recovery which I am not familiar with but have seen quite a few successes with it. The last option is clockwork recovery, though I have used it in the past it can be finicky and I have seen people have a few issues with it. Lastly unlocking, if you going to unlock, I would skip all the free methods and use a reputable service like unlocker.com or something like that.... again read up before hand.
Best advice I can give, if your going to try something, read a lot make sure you know what your doing and be paitent, some processes look like they are doing nothing but allow them to finish.....

All S4 ROMs run on all variants, with the exception of the i9500 octa core version. So you can flash anything, but the ROMs in the development section here that mention jfltecan or Canadian S4 or I337m are the best. I've also heard T-Mobile ROMs are the next best for you, and keep in mind there are also the unified ROMs with one zip for all variants.
The iB4STiD variants have been working great for me. The GPE and TW versions.
Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494 3 or 4 times. Familiarize yourself with kernels and roms that work with i337m. Read as much as you can. The general section has so much useful info. Good luck.

Unless something happened in the last five days that I missed, there is no root method yet.
Your options are limited to installing a Safestrap-compatible ROM that is pre-rooted, or rolling back to Kit Kat and going the keeproot route.

I haven't done it, but I've spent probably 12 hours reading here on XDA to prepare for my attempt to start using custom ROMs on my AT&T GS4, so I'm sure of the process in theory only.
Basically you use Odin to revert your phone back to KitKat, root that, then upgrade to Lollipop keeping root. No way yet to root Lollipop directly.
I have the same issue, I have been searching for a good step by step guide but to date have not found one.
I run into sites that list files I can't download, or have viruses. I have not been successful so far, and all I really need is to unlock the WIFI hotspot.

You need to read and do some work researching on your part for sure, nobody can tell you in 30 words or less how to do it.
That said, the step by step guide you are looking for is right here.

I tried to follow the instructions but once again file issues
3.2 Download I337_OC3_Stock_Rooted_ROM here. " File does not exist"
2.3 Download towelroot v3 here. Place on PC and copy to device (likely your SD card). " TowelRoot is blocked and cleaned due to it's infected with a virus"
So I gave up there..
Still reading hundreds of post and threads but with so many different solutions and problems my head is spinning
@sac02 you have a bad link to androidfilehost on section 3.2 of your guide.

Read thru this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227. Get rid of your virus scanner. Towelroot is ok. Odin to nb1, ota to nc1, root with towelroot, use keep root method

Fixed. Looks like muniz_ri updated the link on June 20 2015, which broke my link.
I'll add some comments in my guide to reference that users should always read and reference each relevant post linked in my guide in case of future such occurrences.
Maybe I can even download all the files and put them in one big zip? "All you need to root AT&T SGS4 in one place"? (not sure if that would be considered bad form in some way - I definitely wouldn't try to take credit for it or anything.) The reason I would do it would be to avoid possible broken links in the future.
