[Q] Can enter bootload but nothing else. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently my phone went into Deep Hibernation so I plugged it into a charger and held down Power, Volume down.
I managed to get into the boot loader screen but only the volume keys are responsive to select options but the power button is unresponsive.
I have no idea on how to start the phone or turn it off anymore, what can I do?

Is your bootloader unlocked. If it is use fastboot reboot. That should boot your device

Well I have no idea if it's in Fastboot or not. Currently the phone is stuck in the mode where there's an arrow pointing towards the power button and 2 white arrows with representation to the volume buttons. I think it's in Fastboot right now but again, the power button isn't working at all to select anything.
I'm not too familiar with these terms. All I know is that I have the phone unlocked and Paranoid Android installed.

Sounds like you're in fastboot mode. From a command prompt on your pc and with the usb cable plugged between your phone and the pc, type fastboot reboot. It should boot your device. Hopefully that will clear what ever is causing your power button not to work

Do I need any sort of program to connect a cmd to my phone? As of right now my phone isnt even registered as a device when it's connected to my computer. Mind giving me a step by step?

Well I managed to reboot it and get back phone's home screen. Though I still have the issue of the fact that my lock/power button is completely busted and/or unresponsive.
Should I just install an app that will serve as an alternative to the power button? By now my Warranty would've already expired and I would have no way of getting it repaired. Are there checks I can make to see whether or not it's a software or hardware fault?

My best guess is it's a hardware issue. A local cell phone repair shop can put in a new power button without a lot of cost.

Any way to save my phone?

I was running Fusion 1.1 recently, and when the Core v1 kernel was released, I flashed the 1.2ghz version, but experienced freezes.
I figured my phone couldnt handle the OC, so I flashed the 1ghz version, my phone started freezing worse. I tried rebooting and it froze during the Galaxy S boot animation.
I then adb'd into recovery and tried flashing Fusion 1.1 again, but my phone froze during the flash and now it wont boot past the Vibrant screen. When plugged into the computer, it only boots up enough the show the battery charge screen, but freezes before it even displays a battery level.
ADB doesnt seem to recognize any connected devices.
Maybe Im getting the hardware button combos wrong, as far as I know, a device that wasnt previously hardware locked cant become locked, right? I know for a fact mine wasnt locked before.
If someone could post the exact hardware button combos, cause Ive seen conflicting posts on this. Or any help for that matter, Im desperate.
try turning the phone off, holding volume up and volume down, while holding those two plug the usb cable in.
see if that gets you into download mode.

Nope, just pops up the battery screen and freezes.
A question about hardware locked phones, the combo Im using to get into recovery is, hold down vol up + vol down + power, and when the Vibrant screen disappears, release the power button, but keep holding the volume buttons.
However when I do this, the Vibrant screen just pops up a second time, which wont happen unless Im holding the power button. If I am to take "hardware-locked" literally, then the power button wouldnt even do that, right?

I just get stuck on the Vibrant screen.
Unless your Vibrant is actually hardware locked, this method should get you into download mode. I have always entered download mode using this method.
1- Power off your phone.
2- Make sure you have the correct drivers installed on your PC for the phone. (I assume you do if you were using ADB).
3- Open Odin on your PC. (I recommend using Odin3 v1.3 or higher, v1.0 has issues)
4- Remove the battery from your Vibrant.
5- Plug the USB cable into your computer.
6- Plug the USB cable into your Vibrant.
7- With one hand (holding the Vibrant on it's side) hold down the Volume up, Volume down, and power buttons all at the same time.
8- While watching the screen, and holding all 3 buttons, place the battery back in the vibrant.
9- Once the battery has been inserted you will likely see one of two things, the "swirly" thinking icon (most common) or the battery icon will pop up. Keep holding the buttons until the initial icon disappears and you see a full black screen is shown.
10- As soon as you see that black screen, release ONLY the power button, continue to hold the volume keys and if done correctly, the Vibrant will go into download mode.
11- Verify Odin sees the device. There will be a box that turns yellow with a Com port shown
12- Load up the .pit & .tar files for the stock rom and flash away. (May have to use re-partition, not sure though)
Hope this helps/works! Good Luck!

You are 100% sure you aren't hardware locked? My wifes phone was hardware locked and I couldn't get her's into download mode with that method. If you are hardware locked you may have to make a jig to get up and running....i should have bookmarked that thread....now I have to search.

I havent had to use to the hardware keys in a while, so maybe I am.
I thought you couldnt use volume keys to navigate recovery if you were HW locked?
If it turns out I am locked, do you think Id be able to access download with this method?

This kernel nearly bricked me much like the problem you're experiencing. It does seem like you may be hardware locked...it locked me out of recovery with the use of 3 hardware buttons, but luckily Odin came through.
You do have the samsung drivers installed on your computer correct? This might be the reason why you can't get into download mode. I also noticed that even though I got into download mode it did not immediately show the COM notification showing I was connected...I hit start anyway and it immediately started flashing the other kernel I used to recover (JAC OC/UV 1.0). There is something seriously wrong with this kernel on certain Vibrants and I don't think I'll be flashing it again, even after updates.

I would definitely have to agree with you there, it froze during a flash with me, which is anything but safe.
Either way, I went out and bought the correct resistors, but I've never done any soldering so I got the micro usb breakout board since its a little easier. I suppose that will come in a week and then Ill have to put it all together and see if the homemade jig works. Wish me luck!

Good luck man. I too had Fusion 1.1, flashed Core 1.2 which caused freezes, I flashed back to stock and when attempting to reload Fusion I messed up the USB and it bricked, and I was hardware locked. I made the "Jig" and it worked fine after a couple tries plugging it in, got to download and flashed back to stock without any problems.

Strange, I release after the second Vibrant screen.
OP: it certainly sounds like you're hardware locked. And no, I don't think it means you can't navigate recovery, it means the buttons don't work when trying to get into recovery in the first place (I was hardware locked and couldn't enter recovery/download without adb; I used the flashable fix to remove the hardware lock).

Turn off the device(Hold the power button for about 10sec) if it's on. Now hold all three hardware buttons(Power, volume UO & Down) togather till the google logo shows up, and this will tur your device on into fastboot mode. Now you should be able to to find your devece from your PC(if driver installed). If you ment "Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit" by "WUG" than you probably want to use Flash stock + Unroot (Can't boot up).

Thanks I tried this. When I try to turn it off it immediately reboots. Tried holding the 3 buttons when this occurs, but the result is still the dead droid with no command under it. The screen where you can select reboot recovery, bootloader never comes up. Confirmed fastboot isn't working.
Any other ideas?

I actually got to the HSUSB_DLOAD on my computer also. For me that came up if you press vol +/- and power at the same time. The screen will not turn on but windows detects something trying to install. I wonder what that is. Remember to boot into bootloader it is vol - and power. Hope this helps.
Try a different cable. It doesn't brick that easily.

When you say "Will not boot" do you mean you're able to power it on and it gets stuck at the X screen? Or it can't power on at all?
If you're able to power it on, you should be able to get into fastboot mode and restore it to factory settings or flash the stock images.
If you can't power it on at all, then it's a hardware issue and there's nothing you can do about it. Unless you know how to fix the hardware.

[Q] Entering Recovery Mode WITHOUT the Home Button

Hi All,
I'm currently repairing an S5 - G900F and have become a little stuck.
My home button does not work, any suggestions on how to enter the recovery menu without it?
I purchased this mobile from Gumtree, the seller thought it had completely given up the ghost..
I have no access to any functions on the device and am completely locked out. The device starts up fine however does not accept my fingerprint scan as it has the sellers credentials on, I do not have the alternative password.
I try booting into recovery (Vol Up + Menu + Power) however it just goes straight to the normal booting image and starts up
Much love, thanks, Si.
The only other ways I know of are to use an app like quickboot, need to have root though. And if USB debugging is turned on and you have adb set up you can use adb reboot recovery. Maybe someone else has a suggestion though.

Use ADB if you have android sdk installed
Go to the sdk\platform-tools folder, hold the shift key on your PC and right click the mouse button then select Open Command Prompt Here
Plug in the phone, you need to have adb debugging enabled in Developer Options, then in the CMD window type adb reboot recovery press the return key
The phone will reboot into recovery mode

Hey Detection, Yeah I have, here's the scenario:
I bought the phone from Gumtree, it was in terrible condition, I've replaced the USB port as this was the reason the seller wanted rid of it, he believed it had broken completely so for £30 I decided to buy it just in case it was fixable. Once I changed the USB port I found it charged, the LCD was next so I found a bargain on eBay for an OEM screen and changed that, decided to replace the mid chassis and rear cover as well, I also replaced the front camera module and rear camera lens. It looks mint now however it boots with his old setup credentials (including fingerprint lock) which I can't bypass!!
The install of the new LCD went smoothly, I took all of the protective plastic strips from the electrical circuits and one from the home button. It will read my fingerprint scan and tells me it's not matched and just locks me out. When I turn the phone off, hold down vol up, home button and power I can't access the boot menu..

Literally Volume Up, Menu and Power. I've tried a number of variants with no luck. I'm beginning to think I have a defective LCD to be honest as I can't get into download mode either. I thought it strange that the menu button can read my fingerprint scan however I think there are two separate sensors for both pressing and scanning.

You can completely reset the phone using Samsung Kies, run Kies and go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Installation then follow the on screen instructions
This procedure wipes all the data from the phone and installs the latest firmware version.
Edit :- Just though that this might require you to manually enter recovery mode, if it does then this wont help.

can't enter into fastboot

Hello i have recently tried to return my phone from cyanogenmod into the stock rom using this thread: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guide-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110" and my phone got stuck in the process while making the command "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img". And now my device is stuck on boot loop showing the cyanogenmod loading screen.
Anyway now i found a way to get to stock but for that i need to get my device into fastboot. THE PROBLEM IS that my device can't get now into fastboot! i have tried using adb commands but the adb doesn't recognize the device. I have tried fastboot commands but again it doesn't recognize the device. I also tried button combinations, but it didn't work.
Until the incidence i have used to press the power button+ vol down keys to get into fastboot mode, but now it doesn't work. I suspect that it doesn't work since in order to get into fastboot with the button combination i need to first get the device turned off. But when i connect my device to the charger it shows the battery charging screen and the device is stuck on that screen even if it has disconnected from the charger, and it will keep on that screen until the battery has depleted. I have tried shutting it down using the power button but then my phone gets into a loop with the cyanogenmod loading screen, and even if i turn it off it restarts instead.
p.s I have used to think that my fastboot was deleted but on an other thread i have been told that as long as i see the cyanogenmod loading screen of the OS that means i have a boot-loader.
Please help!
I want to get into Fastboot on my Moto Pure.
Thanks a lot
Eden.

I think @edenah is saying it just gets stuck at the loading screen. If the battery discharges all the way and the device is plugged in, the battery symbol shows and after the charger is unplugged, the battery charging doesn't go away until the battery dies again or the power button is pressed (which leaves us right back to where we started)

Try this:
Hold power button for 10-20 sek, when screen will turn off hold only vol-(at bootloop screen).
You should flash stock without "oem" commands.
Find how to update bootloader.

:/
It recognizes it as portable usb device.
And well. I have bought the device in the us but i live outside of the US. so its bit problematic to return it now. Some help could do the trick!
I found SP flash tool and i believe it would do the trick. But i need to get the scatter loading file of the moto pure, but i can't find it anywhere, maybe anyone got the idea how to get that?

We haven't been able to get the QLoad files for most Moto devices, at least not for the last 2-3 years... Sorry.
Well i have found a way to get the device charged while the screen is off!
If i connect it to my computer while pressing the power button and the vol down button and keep pressing it, the device stays turned off!
Now i'm trying to play with it, to turn the bootloader. so far the classical power and vol combo doesn't work.

I am stuck. No button combination works. I suspect that the device isn't really off but the display is just closed. As even to open up the device takes a reallly long press on the power button.
if it got interrupted while flashing bootloader, you're pretty much not going to be able to do anything.
motorola service center is likely the only place that can fix it.
sorry for your luck.

Lost cause? No, probably not... Do you know anyone in the US you trust well enough to receive the phone from repair and ship it to you where ever you are? I believe that is all you need. The US service center cannot ship outside of North America (maybe US), but they can receive packages from anywhere. If you had a US contact that could receive the device and forward it on to you it might be worth it to get it fixed if it is still under warranty, if it isn't, then it might not be worth fixing. Lots of things to consider here.
