Still kind of a newbie here so would be great if someone could help me out or point me to a FAQ perhaps? What is recommended to be done before upgrading the OS? I currently have rooted and S-OFF stock 2.2, want to do the upgrade to 2.3.4, preferably at the store. What will be lost in the process of updating? Will I need to reinstall all my apps? Would it be best to use TitaniumBackup before doing the upgrade?
Thanks for any info!
You will loose your root, S-ON, apps and data.

If you want to keep your root, someone has made a pre-rooted ROM of the update to flash in ClockworkMod. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143
Always use Titanium Backup to back up your apps and then use ROM Manager/Clockwork Recovery to take a backup of your current ROM incase something goes wrong. I'd suggest you not take it to T-Mobile if you want to keep your phone rooted. As the previous post said, there is a rooted copy of the Android version T-Mobile will install available.

If you want to keep your root, just head to the dev section and download a stock rooted 2.3.4 OTA release. If you have the G2 (assuming you do) the ROM can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211143 . I've successfully installed this one. Its perfectly stock, but with root.
You should follow standard procedure for moving to a new ROM, as the poster above stated.
1) backup all apps (not system data) with an app like Titanium Backup.
2) do a nandroid (ROM manager) backup of your current ROM
3) enter recovery, wipe cache/dalvik/factory data reset
4) Flash 2.3.4 pre-rooted ROM.zip
5) enter your new ROM and restore your apps.
Should be noted that this ROM does NOT include a radio or anything, its just the ROM in a .zip format. So you may want to get the appropriate radio. Although your current radio may work just fine. Radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809

No problem. Hope everything is working well.
hello guys, i want to downgrade because i am sick of 4.2.1. Due to the fact that i have a 8gb nexus 7(rooted) i am having memory shrtages and directorybind dont work on the latest version...so i have a few questions:
can i downgrade without losing data?if no....how do i backup my apps and dara
should i downgrade with wugs toolkit?
If it's not obvious already: you'll need to do a clean-wipe to downgrade. Just flash the appropriate gapps and you should be good to go. Keep in mind any custom kernels/zips you may have flashed that may not work on 4.1.2. -Use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps as some 4.2 system apps won't work on 4.1.2
Have you tried other 4.2 roms or different kernels? I used to get horrible battery drain and some performance issues with the stock rom and kernel, then I tried other options and got much better results

Please try a custom rom before all hope is lost. Try Rootbox
first of all i have never flashed a custom rom or kernel
secondly if i backup all my games and apps with TB when i restore it in 4,1,2 will it work properly?....as i have seen people complaining that after restoring they were stuck in bootloop...
...is there any custom roms that support directory bind or any other ways that allow playing games from usb stick?

what are GAPPS?
where can i find the appropriate gapps for 4.1.2?
can i use these steps to downgrade : http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...-stock-android412-android42-jellybean-ota.htm
This is what I would do:
Backup your desired apps using Titanium Backup
Install the factory 4.1.2 image using the instructions here
Root your device and restore the apps using TB
I don't know about bootloops caused by TB, but if it does you can reflash using the guide in the list.

You don't flash gapps on stock...
And we have a sticky thread for doing this; no need to leave the forum.

Dear friends,
First all, I tried to search, found some threads (Titanium Backup problem) but it did not work for me.
I just bought a N9005 (after 1 year stick with i9500). With i9500 everything very simple with 4.3, I haven't upgraded to KitKat.
With N9005 I stuck with some problem for days: Tried to install some Custom Rom: Crash, Echoe, X-Note ... same problems:
- Dropbox: can not export file, can not save.
- Titanium Backup: FC
- Some apps can not download file.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I tried
"su
Restorecon -R -v /data/data/
But still didnot work. I think the problem is can not write on the storage. But it's weird, in Browser i'm still able to download files.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Later I went back to stock rom, with root flashed. Everything go smooth. But I still want to go with custom rom (as I always did with my i9500). Is this custom rom problem?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Thank you all.
Best regards.
Ryan.

Ok sorry my bad, may I edit my post?
Might not be crrupted or virus, I tried many times with different roms, with full wipe, format ...
Still not entirely clear - did you have a working KK ROM and now you're trying to install a KK custom ROM, or did you have JB 4.3 before trying to upgrade?

Before installing custom rom, did you wipe your rom manually using recovery (CWM)? wipe cache, systems, dalvik and data partitions?
Titanium backup have a problem when restoring data in KK, but there is a fix for it in the playstore. When finished restore (batch restore) don't run the app yet, run the TB fix and restart.phone.
All downloaded file using any browser will go to phone memory.
I am using stock root NC2. to bypass this SD Card issue copy this file to system/etc/permissions and set permission. Restart phone. hope it help.

To be clearer, I have stock root NC2, wanna try other custom roms (Crash, Echoe, Xnote).
I tried them all but still have the same issue.
I always do full wipe in CWM when switch to another custom rom.
I tried to edit the permission as you mentioned (both manually and copy file) but got error message all the time, seem like I couldn't write or edit file.
I installed the TB fix on Play Store, but It say no issues with the phone (weird), so can not run.
Stock rom everything seem ok but custom roms always have same issues T_T
Its mean your phone doesnt fully root?

I rooted my SM-T230NU and before I start deleting stock apps I wanted to make a backup or at least have a ROM to flash in recovery in case I make a mistake. Any suggestions? On my Nexus 5 I use twrp.
Can I use an app like zipme from ROM toolbox to make a zip and flash it from the stock recovery in case I have a problem.

You can always grab a copy of your firmware from sammobile, along with Odin in case you delete anything you shouldn't.
Titanium Backup is my preference for backing up system apps while removing bloatware
I could use your help
