Random Reboots. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a replacement phone because Knock-on didn't work, and now the new phone it reboots on its own. When I get a phone call, it reboots. When I'm not using it, it reboots. When I'm using it, it reboots. It reboots ALL THE TIME. At least 10 times every hour. I would like to take it back to sprint, for ANOTHER replacement...but if there was a way to fix it, that's be awesome. I've tried factory resets 103938482x and I also flashed stock software through LGFlashtool to no avail. I'm just so frustrated.

Do you have setcpu or a OC kernal by any chance?
I am having this happen also... I have had to remove my battery three times today to reboot the phone.
I have set CPU installed, is that a bad idea?
I'm rooted with just the stock OS, no mods at all and my phone will randomly reboot every two or three days.

Mine has the new rom the leaked one and does this so often like after every 2-3 songs. Did it with the stock rom too.

No, I'm rooted with straight stock. No set CPU or anything of that nature. But like I said even then ill get complete freezes and then a reboot. Or occasionally ill attempt to open an app and the phone will reboot!!

did you wipe your SD cards when you flashed the new rom? I don't have this behavior but I did have FC's and such because of some files on the SD. I have NONE of this behavior. Something is wrong for you, nothing is wrong with JI2 and freezing/rebooting.

I used to have this problem all the time too whenever I tried to use the gps, but since I've applied the leaked update that problem has gone away. But it seems like you're experiencing the issue at more random times. Have you noticed any particular pattern? For example, whenever you try to play music in the background and read a website at the same time.

Yup mine is bone stock not Rooted and it will lock up just siting there GPS, wireless and Bluetooth off in a very good signal area.
Same here on both roms. I thought the lag fix was causing the freeze. But now im stock jit2 and root.
Had the same with gps and maps with old firmware.

NO set cpu or anything
I haven't had this issue happen since I applied the flashable gps fix. Maybe it was an issue with an app that wanted to use GPS running in the background?
This has happened to me several times while booting gps and only recently started happening while playing pandora, but not as frequent as while using the gps...not rooted

Mine has only frozen up once and it was at the end of a call screen turned off. I hit power and went to go unlock and it turned off again.. Would not turn back on but I know the phone was still on since I had apmobile enabled and it was still transmitting wifi connection. Oh I was using eugene's FrankenTwiz (underclocked to 400mhz)when it happened but same thing happened to my girlfriend and she had hybrid r3. Other than phone runs fine.
Ive had some odd reboots where I dont get a shutdown or boot animation or sounds, just freezes, goes black, keys light up, searching for signal boot process. Yesterday in maps trying to troubleshoot my gps. Stock rom, rooted, Ryan's lagfix.
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!
Have the phone replaced. I had a phone that would randomly freeze and/or reboot. Nothing I did would fix it.
I talked to a T-mobile worker who had the same issue with one of the early demo-phones Samsung loaned to him. They just replaced his without every saying what the problem was.
I've been having this happen a lot lately myself, it happened to me before on stock ROM due to SetCPU, but now on the leaked ROM. I did not clean the SD card (internal or external), so will give that a shot when I have some time to copy files on/off the SD cards (one reason to dislike the internal SD is that I have to mount it to copy the files, ergh).

Random reboots alot....

Okay my girlfriend's atrix reboots almost ten times an hour.....during a phone call it reboots sending/receiving texts or just sitting there probably getting background data. I had her get a new battery cause she had some **** off brand in it....didn't work...now she told me she washed her last atrix and got it replaced so im thinking she got her sim wet and that's why its rebooting or its hardware end....phone is completely stock not rooted...any ideas? Thanks in advance

Unlock it root it and a custom rom fixed mine it did the same thing not as much as hers but still had a lot of random reboots on stock gb .now maybe one random reboot a month

I wouldn't be so fast to unlock the bootloader. A phone that reboots that often most likely has hardware issues. Stock ROMs have issues, but not that radical.
Feed her a nice dinner and get her to come clean as to the evil thing she did to her phone. If there really have been no mishaps, get a warranty replacement. My advice is to not do anything to the phone that would make getting a replacement difficult.
Good Luck
Lol she told me what happened with her first one she gott replaced she washed it....so she got a new one that one rebooted...then she got another and its also rebooting

I would tell u to download a gingerbread fruit cake, moto-fastboot, and do a complete wipe including system, data, webtop, preinstall, cache and boot. (Boot=kernel) then do a fastboot reboot into recovery and flash the 2.3.4 fruit cake. If u need detailed instructions on how to do this and where to get files pm me.

Ten times a day is a frigging lot. I used to have random reboots with group but it was more like twice a day. Sometimes it would not boot up again until I did a battery pull......but flagging to Gingerbread solved all these errors. No random reboots or any problem at all since.

Funny thing is she's on the gb ota...she's outta town for the weekend I think on Monday we are gonna try a new sim that doesn't work.....another replacement....ill keep you all updated incase there's another case of this!

I thought "flagging" to be British slang.
The conclusion I would make from reading this thread is that while many if not the majority of frequent and seemingly random reboots are failed h/w, another failure mode is corruption of the installed kernel and/or support utilities (collectively called the OS). Re-flashing any of the various ROMs will clear the problem.
If f/w corruption is the actual problem, flashing anything requires unlocking the bootloader. If a replacement phone is an option, I would do that rather than risk unlocking the boot loader and then not being able to return it.

Still Constantly rebooting....

I've been having random reboots ever since.....well, a long time ago. No matter what ROM, kernel, or android version, it still persists. It happens at least 5 times a day. Sometimes 10. It even does it when I have zero downloaded apps.
Now that I'm done complaining, I'd like some help solving this formidable problem. Has anyone experienced the same thing? What can I do to stop it? Etc.
This is with an 8gb WiFi.
Thanks

After a reboot, you can know what cause this reboot with "last_kmsg" log. Look here for how to get it : https://code.google.com/p/tegraowners-ics-rom/wiki/How_to_get_logs
OK I did that. I scrolled through the unending file and at the bottom it said, "no errors found". Does this mean it doesn't know what caused the reboot, or did I miss something?

My nexus 7 rebooted while typing out this reply....so frustrating that this just happens out of nowhere. At least five times a day for me too.
Can't be the rom...I've been on pa 3.0 for a while and it was stable before. I don't think it's the kernel because I've flashed the top 3 kernels and it fixes nothing.
I am thinking it's a rogue app because my nexus is also draining battery very quickly and something is causing non stop wake locks and keeping my device from sleeping. Now I have to hunt down this app out of my 100+ apps
Android can be very frustrating at times

Revert to pure stock and if the problem persists assume that you have a hardware defect. Hardware defects are not curable with software - they are cured by replacement of the hardware. ( BTW, If you ran your device for significant lengths of time at extreme OC levels, you might have caused the damage; but that is for you to decide)
Mine has rebooted once in three months - but I could reproduce the crash ( using Chrome Beta on a specific WebGL demo ). That is very different than a spontaneous crash though, so I guess I could say it has *never* happened to me - and I have used the tab extensively every day for those three months.

[Q] Verizon GN3 randomly shutting down

I have only had the GN3 for a few days and it has started randomly shutting down. It seems to happen randomly, however it happens almost every time I put it in my pocket. I have tried clearing the cache and completely resetting the phone through the recovery options.
I have not tried rooting it yet.
Is anyone else seeing this?
If you just got the phone and its stock I would return it . Sounds defective to me . I haven't heard of anyone reporting this issue stock.

Experiencing random freezes on 7.1.2

An about a month ago switched to 7.1.2 from 6.0.1.
Stock rooted version. The phone is one and a half years old.
Since then I'm having random freezes that only pressing the power button and reboot will help.
I can't figure out what causes these freezes.
Anybody else having this ?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using xda premium
How did you update to 7.1.2 was it stock image ?
Yes. Stock image

Try a factory reset see if that helps really hard to say. Are you using substratum try removing overlays. If using custom kernel resore to stock. If it was me I would completely wipe my phone including internal. Then flash a fresh factory image to rule out any software related issues. Just make sure you back up all your pics etc.
I'm using stock kernel. The freezes are random. Can't figure out what triggers them.
The freeze can be while the phone connected to charger, lying on a table or when I on Facebook or something else...

There apps that you can get that will show you logs of what's going on in the background. Catlog or syslog are ones that I know of. They can be hard to understand but might give you some clues to what's going on. After the phone does it thing quickly check the log and see if any errors from apps and such that stand out.
