FFOS 1.3 Email/Caldav Problems - Firefox OS General

Hello
I posted this question in another thread, but I feel it would be god to have a dedicated thread for it.
I am having problems with the built in email and calendar apps on FFOS 1.3. Essentially I have tried setting up my email and caldav connection to my server (I am hosting both my calendar and email personally) and it keeps saying it's unable to make a secure connection or just plain unable to connect. However, every single other device or software I use works just fine.
I have the ZTE Open phone, the OS is specifically FFOS/Boot2Gecko 1.3.0.0-prerelease.
I had heard that 1.3 has issues fetching secure connections. If this is the case, what can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!
**UPDATE**
Ok it seems I got the caldave issue resolved. Had to fine tune the url to make sure it was correct. I also noticed an odd SSL cert config issue I had so I'll have to resolve that. Resolving it might fix the connection issue I am having with the email portion on my problem.
I'll keep this thread up to date in case others are having similar issues

Can you share what fine tuning was required in case others run into this problem?

Blackberry Connect - Attachments missing

Hi,
I use O2 xda mini S with AKU2 ROM with Device s/w 2.1.2.16 and Desktop Sync s/w 2.1.1.18. Messages are being pushed from BES 4.0 server properly but Attachments are not available (does not show attachments at all).
Am I missing a registry setting or something else...!!!
I have tried reinstalling the device s/w and desktop s/w as well but nothing seems to work.
Even reinstalled the AKU2 ROM but still the issue remains.
Please help else may have to go back to MS Pushmail.
It is probably a setting on the Blackberry Enterprise Server - wnet through similar pain myself and in thend switched to using Outlook OWA access which works perfectly and gives me all attachments in a form I can use and work on
Issue got resolved today.
I happen accidently uninstall the O2ActiveUI software and the attachments started appearing. I did not do anything other than this.
Also this freedup a lot of space on my PDA. Now the phone seems faster and more responsive as well.

The issue is finally resolved.
I had uninstalled O2ActiveUI to make for some extra space (not that the PDA was completely out of space). Post that, the atachments started appearing.
Seems like O2ActiveUI was clashing with BB Connect. I used "Corporate" Option to clean the same.
Seems O2 missed testing the BB Connect with their s/w....!!!!!!

I have the same issue with missing attachments. I was sure that it was working when I first installed the BB Connect client. The only problem in my case is that I am not using an O2! Obviously something else also interferes with the email client.
Same problem here too - not 02
It started recently here too. I used to receive attachments fine.
Now it does not redirect to my PPC no more.
Earlier this week, it dept of my company has made an urgent BES maintenance. I wonder if they changed some setting here. I have checked with other colleagues running RIM devices and they get attachments fine.

Attachements work for me again. I found that storing attachments on SD card does not work. Ie, I changed the setting, forgot I changed it, and it stopped working. I changed it back and it started working again.

Gmail (IMAP) push for Pocket Outlook !Updated Ver 0.6.0

All,
I've let the first release of Imap Pusher Service out of the bag. It's still pretty rough, but if you configure it right, it works well enough that you may get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
The program runs in the background and subscribes to IMAP IDLE notifications. When the notifications arrive it can do a send/receive on the PocketOutlook account you specify, effectively enabling push email for your Gmail account (or other imap server that supports the IDLE command).
Again, there are some known issues with the current version (I will hopefully address these soon), but I would like to know what you think. Here's the link.
http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
Update: version 0.2.0 is released
Changes: more descriptive error messages, ability to turn on trace log to help me diagnose problems.
If you are having issues you would like to resolve, capture the trace log and send it to me.
Update: version 0.2.1 is released
Changes: found bug which was causing client to not be able to reconnect in some cirumstances, should be resolved.
Update: version 0.2.2 is released
Changes: fixed problem where IDLE command was not getting refreshed when IMAP server was being to chatty.
Update: version 0.2.3 is released
Changes: fixed problem where if IMAP server says that it has a server error this was ignored.
Update: version 0.5.0 is released
Changes: program will atttempt to connect data connection if not connected.
some resource leaks have been fixed, will hopefully prevent the hanging.
Update: version 0.6.0 is released
Changes: program allows you to save your settings, and will not prompt you next time you start it. To get the prompt again, currently you need to delete the settings file. Note that storing your settings stores your encrypted password on your device, and since this is an open source program, anyone can lookup how I do the encryption, so only use this option if you are comfortable, and change your email password if you lose your device!
Great
Great idea but... I can't manage to get it work.
I previously had a Gmail POP3 account which i setup to get mails manually.
Then I ran IMAPPusherservice, filled up parameters, OK... and then still waiting for emails...
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks

Maybe (hopefully) a simple solution, did you enable imap in your account settings in gmail?
It works great with my GMX account, well done!
But it uses 30% CPU if there is no data connection active, nor does Pocket Outlook play a sound when it receives the email...
works great!
Works great even with google apps gmail. Thanks
I'd like to mention once again the full service of Mail2Web. I'm very happy with it.
For those who don't know: they're offering Free Exchange-Accounts there.
This means you can sync your contacts, todo's, calendar and your e-mail with it. The Microsoft DirectPush is screaming fast!
But another solution i'm taking a deeper look into, is Z-Push. It's an opensource implementation of the ActiveSync protocoll. Which basically means you'd be able to have the same functionality as with an Exchange-Server.
It runs out of the box with a php-enabled webspace (need the right to set aliases via .htaccess). Had to figure it out myself, but the guys in the fora are kind. Another advantage of this solution (beside it is OpenSource and you can extend it yourself) is the possibility to plug it onto various groupware solution.
BTW: Push-GMail is the most popular example in the forum there.
Sry for my english..

I use .net framework 3.5
yeah, this release is quite a rough cut. its not very graceful if you enter your password incorrectly (double chck this if its not getting new mail). Or if you don't have the data connection runing already. for now it would be best to tell your data conection to sty on. I'm on a kaiser and I can easily use kaiser tweaks to do this. ad it was the default mode for my ppc6700 with sprint.
the reason why i'm bothering with this rather mail2web is that with mail2web you are entrusting your mail with yet another party, when google now supports everything you need for push obo.
anyway, if you configure this guy appropriately, even this early release should work for you. but if you are having trouble I hope to have a release out soon that wil identify your problems with ease. it just neds to contend with all the work I get paid to do ;-)
At the moment it requires .NET CF 3.5. This isn't strictly necessary from a functionality standpoint at the moment though, so I may try and downgrade it, if thats a problem.
client seems to disconnect, and not reconnect, after a while (mine was connected for a good 36 hours, this last time). I will have to track this down when I release a version with more tracing information (hopefully tonight).
this would be a great application to have once it starts working properly.
right now i use this other app whcih is a sms switch. you forward gmail to your sms address. when your phone gets the incoming sms for new mail, it automatically opens up poutlock and send/receives and gets you the new mail. this works great because you dont need to always be connected. it only connects when you get new mail. only problem is it uses SMS so if you dont have a unlimited text plan it's gonna really hurt you.
if you can develop this program it would be a great alternative. it would be even better if you dont always have to be connected as to save battery power.
The reason why I have released this is that it works pretty darn well now. With a glitch or two. IMAP IDLE, like ActiveSynch Direct Push require an open data connection though, because of the way that they work. The key is that they don't have to be broadcasting all the time, though. This works pretty well battery wise for most modern phones.
Any other form of notification would have to come through the data interaction your phone makes with the cell towers (like SMS), so you would probably have to pay for it (like SMS).
I've noticed that the new iPhone SDK has some allowance for notification routing, but I would assume this relies on keeping a data connection open.
version .2 is released, check first post for details.

I've been looking for something like this for quite some time now. I'll give the current version a try. Being that most devices come with .NET CF, it would be nice if it wasn't dependent on 3.5.
version .21 is released, should be more stable, see first post or project page for details.
version 0.22 is released, check first post for details.
i have subscribed and keepin my eye out on each release. version .21 worked on and off. it didnt retrieve mail as fast as it should and sometimes it didnt retrieve at all. will try new version soon. thanks for developing it.
do you need to have your inbox running on the ppc for this to work or will it automatically open the inbox? just wondering if i should keep the inbox open in the background at all times as well. i tried it with the box open and close and it didnt work that time so it may be a glitch since it works sometimes when the box was open. but when i tried again with it open and close it didnt work so hard to tell.
I'm now test the lastest version.. I would really like the following features:
- save settings in .ini file
- auto start service if windows mobile starts
- Auto dial if no internet connection is present
This is great, it's working really well. I second the above post about saving the settings and auto-starting, but I'm guessing that's something you're planning on adding anyway?
I used to have Outlook check my Gmail account over IMAP every ten minutes and drop the data connection after two minutes of inactivity. I'm not sure what kind of effect leaving the data connection permanently on will have on my battery, but I'm certainly willing to give it a go for a day or two to see. Emails sent to myself as a test are coming through in well under thirty seconds from sending, and that's over a slow GPRS connection.
The area I live in doesn't have the best reception though, being virtually out in the sticks and all. I've not left the house since installing this, but what can I expect if I temporarily have no signal and the data connection drops? Will I start getting "Cannot connect" type error messages?
Thanks for your hard work, I'll be keeping a close eye on this one.

Tattoo and Microsoft Exchange Server

All,
I'm sure, that this question is easy to answer for most of you:
Does the Tattoo supports an Exchange account? I have read that it is not supported (only over third party apps)
Please help me out on that!
Thanks a lot in advance,
Asterix
A friend told me that it does support MS Exchange.
He is using it.
But he sad that he just can't download attachments so he has to send those emails to his gmail account and then to download them.
The Mail app allows you to add an MS Exchance account. But it has NEVER worked for my email account. It might work for yours... who knows... But the Tattoo does support Exchange server.
It does work, but there is an issue.
I have access to my work email (via Exchange Server and the Mail app) and it was very easy to set-up. It works really well, the app is quite nice. It will do things like listing your emails by conversation.
However, I can only read emails. I can't send emails.
This is a bug in Android. Not sure whether it is being fixed in 2.1. I do think you can get it to work though if you have help from your IT team. I have read that they can change some of the security permissions on the Exchange server (ie exclude you from certain protocols). I haven't tried it though.

works great
Hi Guys, I was having the same problem with not being able to send mails and download attachments, even the mails which were longer, wouldn't load fully.
I requested the company's IT team to take a look at it and they changed some settings as Admins on the exchange server to get it working (I believe Android does not provide remote-wipe/ pin-password lock feature to be enforced, they had to bypass the check for me)
Hope it helps.
I had the problem of emails not sending when I set my son's Tattoo up.
I then accessed remote.xxx.com (where xxx is my domain name) and got an error, I tried again and it said the certificate was invalid, once I accepted it it let me in. I tried to access the Internal web site and got the cert error again. I accepted the cert again and just got a blank page.
I exited and have since been able to send emails without a problem.
I believe it's a certificate problem but mine has somehow resolved itself.

Interesting.
Sadly, tried it and didn't seem to work for me. It just kept defaulting to our corporate webmail server. I had heard it was a certificate problem too, but also the remote wipe etc needed in the security settings on the server.
Great that you've got it working though.

no problem
Hi!
Thanks for all the answers. I got my Tattoo now, setting up the exchange account was no problem at all, everything working fine. Some parts are a little bit not as fine as I'm used from my WM phones in the past. (times to set up when it should get the mails, which folder should get synchronized,..)
Thanks,
Stefan
I spoke to soon.
My son's phone keeps on saying it can't send - so I received 10 copies of the same email until I deleted it from the outbox.
There is a definite problem - has anyone found a solution?

ActiveSync issues with sending e-mail

Getting a weird behavior on the EVO with Active Sync.
I remember using it on my Hero with my company's Exchange server a while back, and everything worked.
With the EVO I can get e-mails, push works great, but when sending an e-mail I'm running into a weird issue.
Immediately after hitting send, the phone will complain that the message could not be sent. "Unable to send e-mail" or something like that.
If I go into the Outbox I can see that the e-mail is there. The phone will flash the message every few seconds, meaning it's trying and failing.
The strange part is, the e-mails are actually going through. The first time this happened my e-mail was sent to a work distribution list 15 times before I realized what was going on and deleted the e-mail from the Outbox.
That was with stock ROM and no mods. Today I tried sending an e-mail after rooting the EVO and using Damagecontrol ROM. The issue is still there. I can reproduce the problem just by sending an e-mail, it will be in the Outbox, will go through over and over until I delete it from the Outbox.
It seems like the phone is not getting confirmation from the Exchange server (or ActiveSync rather) that the message is getting sent properly.
I'm not sure exactly how ActiveSync pushes the sent e-mails back to Exchange. It uses the same SSL connection used for push and sync, but does it put it in the Outbox and then try to sync that folder with the server and the server is supposed to delete it from the Outbox once it is sent?
The sent e-mails are showing up in my Sent Items folder, every single one, so if I got 5 copies in my test, I will find 5 sent e-mails in the Sent Items folder.
Weird
I would talk with your IT dept and find out if there are any other smartphone users having the same issue (and if so, which platform), or if yours is an isolated case. I would also try synching your Exchange mailbox with a different android device (and then a different platform) to see if you can replicate the problem; you can also try synching someone else's mailbox on your device.
I don't have a solution for you, as I've never heard of this happening on any smartphone platform.
However, start with basic troubleshooting and you should be able to narrow down the source of the problem.
I am having the same exact issue!!!! Finally someone I can relate with. I have tried everything and no other users on my Exchange server are having this problem.
I have downloaded Moxier Mail from the market and I am using that just for the email and it works fine but I would really love to get this resolved.
Someone help!!!!

Thanks khov07. I have talked to my IT guy. I did try to configure the account on my Hero last night and got the exact same issue. Most of the users here use their iPhone's without a problem.
Now that I have found that the Hero has the same issue, I will go back to my IT guy and we'll try and see if we can find anything useful in our Exchange logs.
Since there are barely any configuration options in the e-mail client, it all probably boils down to a communication issue between the server and the client. Hopefully we'll be able to find the problem and correct it.
Edit: There's another user that has a Moment, I'm not sure if he uses ActiveSync on it, but I'll check with him to see if he has any issues.
Co-worker with the Moment can send e-mails without a problem, but he uses Moxier. So there's something going on between the HTC Mail App and the Exchange server.
OP, I would ask a co-worker if you could borrow their phone (or perhaps your IT dept has a spare for testing) that is non-Android and try synching your mailbox to that device, see if the problem resurfaces.
Finally, take a look at those Exchange logs. You may be limited, however, based on the version of Exchange your enterprise is running, i.e., 2007 vs 2003. Exchange 2007 has significant improvements in mobile device management over 2003.

That's a good idea. Would rule out a problem with my account.
We do use 2007, we could never get this running on 2003.
Thanks
OP: Let us know your progress, as someone has reported the same issue on this thread. I myself am interested in knowing the root cause.
I am still having the issue and would love a resolution.
Thanks in advance,
Well something is definitely f'd up with the ActiveSync client that HTC includes.
I have just put Froyo (EvolutionV8) on my Evo and configured my exchange account on it. I can send e-mail without any problems.
Some Exchange servers have the issue, as most users are not having any problems, but the few of us that are will probably keep having the problem. I haven't had much time to do any troubleshooting on this.
It's good to hear the the issue isn't on Froyo, but I think the HTC Mail client has some extra security features that I would like to take advantage of. I was hoping the recent update would solve the problem, but no such luck. Maybe when the 2.2 official HTC update is released it will fix the problem.
same problem here
I have the same issue on send and rcv, send usually works ok, but checking mail just goes over and over till exch server stops trying. Bugs the hell out of me, im running exch 2007 from 1and1. Would be nice to find a fix to this.
B
same issue here people, on a HTC Wildfire with 2.1 original FW.
sucks...
I have the same issue with exchange and the old touchdown. 6.2 touchdown fixed it for me. must be an exchange update that messed everything up for htc
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
2.2 includes some additional security features not present in 2.1, such as PIN security enforcement.
I have noticed many ActiveSync issues can be cleared up by wiping out the synch on the device, AND wiping out the local cache on your device. I usually see issues with Droids (all three) synching to Exchange - contacts don't show up, or calendars don't populate, etc.
Also, check to see if your exchange account is synched with any other devices. I have also seen odd issues with synching when your mailbox already has a device partnership with a WinMo device. If it does, delete all of them (server-side), wipe out the account on your phone, wipe out the local cache, reboot, wait 15 minutes, and try again.
Evo's should synch just fine with Exchange.

Desire HD and Exchange Sync Protocol Error

I know this has been asked a few times, but this time the problem involves the DHD aswell. I got my DHD sync'ed with 3 exchange accounts and one of them gives a failure with contact synchronisation. The error is described as the Sync Protocol Error.
After various tries to disable/enable account, remove/add account and factory resetting the device I started looking after this problem on Google and such. Because the DHD isn't that old most information I could find applies to different phones and or different android versions.
So does anyone else encounter these problems aswell?

None of the links you paste does apply tot this error. I also bought the Desire Z to see if that solves the issue, but it remains. I guess this has something to do with the current firmware.
Same problem
Hi there,
I have the same problem on my Desire Z.
Factory reset works and syncing the first time works, but after updating a number of contacts in outlook it fails to sync these changes and the sync-error appears. At first I thought it had something to do with linking your facebook and other accounts, but not linking any of these still showed the same error.
I'm new to Android, so does anybody know where I can find an error log?
Regards,
Bas.
From the options mobile settings in your Exchange OWA you can create a server log. But as far as I can see no issues can be seen serverside.
hey, solution is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9928087#post9928087
It seems comon to any android phone
We have a lot of problems with exchange sync in android phones.
In order to clarify the issue some general info:
Corporate email Exchange 2003 updated with SPACK's and fixes
We have 50 iPhones and some iPads working well
We have 200 HTC Wildfire with conitnous "sync proctocol error" and similar problems
In the past, we used Nokia E71 with Mail for Exchange or E72 with built in client with no problems
Also tested Windows Mobile 6.5 with any isue as well
So, the problem is not in the server side. After diving in a lot of threads, the only "solution", found by us, is to remove the account and setup again, the smartphone will work por undefined period of time.
Any Idea?
Today a new issue comes!!! Updating the server certificate, we have ONLY in android phones ".. The server certificate is invalid ...."
Thanks for your help
