Had you experienced the touchscreen working intermittently before it stopped completely? It could be the software, as mentioned above, but I know this model is particularly fussy if the ribbons get even just a bit loosened at the connectors. They have to go all the way in or no-go. Subjecting the tab to any kind of shock, no matter how slight, might produce that effect. If it's out of warranty, I'd suggest you pop out the back and try reseating the double-pronged cables. If not, well, you know what to do. Good luck.

Please forgive my ignorance, I am still learning on a curve here. What is a kernel, (I know it is something that every operating system has), where do I get one, and how do I 'flash' it?
Thanks for getting back with me!

No, I never had a problem with it, as far as the screen goes. I did notice that it wasn't picking up my wifi very well the night before though.....
After opening the back, I fail to see what "double-pronged cables" you are referring to. Do you mean the black, red, white, and yellow wires? If so, those are already still plugged in.
Thanks for helping me!
I am now trying to unroot and relock bootloader. Problem is, I can't get my device INTO bootloader!!!!
Any ideas how to unroot and relock bootloader without being in bootloader?

I was referring to the flat amber ribbons that connect to the mainboard by the edge of the tab. They are the ones coming out of the digitizer in front that registers your touches.

Maybe you can point out to me where that is? I still don't see it. And I am not adventurous enough to start tearing this thing apart.

Update, got into bootloader. Unrooted. But I cannot get the unit locked again using Wug's Toolkit. I can't enable USB debugging. Are there any shortcuts around this? If I can get it locked, I can ship it back to ASUS!

Hi, deejinfla...
You don't need a functional touchscreen to re-lock the Bootloader.
Further, USB debugging isn't needed either.
All you need is FASTBOOT.
The command syntax for re-locking the Bootloader is...
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Here's how...
Shut down your Nexus 7.
Reboot into the Bootloader by pressing VolDown+PowerOn.
Connect your Nexus 7 to your PC via USB.
On your PC, open a COMMAND PROMPT window on whichever folder your FASTBOOT and ADB executables are located.
Type fastboot oem lock
This will re-lock the Bootloader.
Rgrds,
Ged.

Look at the attached thumb - you need to lift the rectangular black pad off. The ribbon connectors are underneath. Be gentle with the pad, peel it very slowly. Once you get to the connectors, gently (again!) lift the white back tabs up so they stand at 90% with the connector bases, then insert something non-metal ( a toothpick) under the ribbons and slide them out SLOWLY with an outward motion. Reconnect them again, and make sure the white marks on the ribbons at least touch the base (black part) of the connectors. If they don't, you won't have good connection. Do not use any amount of force until the ribbons are halfway in (they should slide in easily if you angle them right); otherwise you'd bend the tiny pins inside the connectors! It's an easy thing to do. You just have to be a bit patient and make sure the environment is well-lit. Good luck.
The best way to envision is to google "nexus 7 teardown." Spend 3 minutes going through an image gallery, then you'd know what to do.
My unresponsive screen was fixed by pressing on the center of the back of the tablet. I heard a small pop and the screen was fixed. I think the connector had become dislodged.
1. Toolbox is awesome. kinda like Sammy's version of Halo. Can be enabled thru settings or quicksettings.
2. Idk if this is new or not but TouchWiz messaging app has a cool quick reply popup.
3.Take better pics with "Picture Stabilizer" off and ISO on "Auto".
4. Enable call notification popups and in call status popus, from the call settings. Both awesome features.
5. One handed fingerprint.
6. DL Booster enabler/alternative.
7. Check out power saving mode and new options for it.
8. Long press recent soft key will bring up the menu on most apps.
9. Enable developer options and change transition animation scale to .5x or off.
10. Go into S-Voice and disable double tapping home key to open, now your home key will be much more responsive.
Feel free to add to the list!
Long press recent soft key bring up menu within apps. On homescreen will bring up home screen options

Can you eloborate on #2 a little bit. I've heard about this but can't seem to figure out how to enable it. Is it supposed to be like LGs sms pop up?

Go to the stock TW messaging app... settings... notifications... and then enable popup display!
Here's my one handed fingerprint scan technique:
1) Hold the phone with the pinky supporting the bottom of the screen.
2) Rest your thumb over the home button at a natural angle, with the upper inside corner of the home button touching in the middle of your thumb.
3) Flick your thumb downwards.
4) When setting it up, make sure to slightly vary your angle and speed each time. If you use a consistent speed and angle, it will only register that specific speed and angle. You are given ten examples per finger -- take advantage of it.
5) To increase my chances further, I mapped the same thumb on two profiles. The third one is for the same thumb when I'm holding it in my other hand.
The results are very accurate. 90% of the time on the first swipe, 99% by the second, and 100% by the third.

If you don't need the waterproof cover over the charging port it is easy to remove:
Remove the back cover
Remove the screw on the left from the charging port with Phillips 00 screwdriver
Pry the piece of plastic under the removed screw.
Remove the charging port cover.
Reassemble in the reverse order.
This procedure doesn't expose any internal components, there is no way to damage anything, even if you are clumsy.

The rest of the phone is still protected, and you will be able to store that flimsy cover for the times when it will be needed. I'm not sure it will remain tight for long if opened and closed every day. It is easy to reinstall the cover before a beach or camping trip.

How do you figure that the rest of the phone will still be protected? If someone spills water or something on your device, it's not gonna not go in the charging port and avoid it lol.......... you will be screwed dude..

As I said, this is a matter of security vs. convenience. Not everyone is art risk of a spillage at all times. I've had cell phones for over 20 years, and never had a water intrusion problem. In fact I don't think I eve lost any electronics due to a water damage. Also many people have extended warranties or insurance policies that cover water damage. I think that the risk is miniscule, and the cover is irritating. Samsung probably thought about it and this is why they made this cover easily removable.
This is not an iPhone. You always have a choice.
you can disable the useless "my magazines" by long pressing on homescreen, and unchecking my magazines in the options....and then you also turn it off in apps manager and its gone
its essentially a flipboard widget, and you can't even log into it
Hi,
My Nexus 6P started to act weirdly 3 days ago. Sometimes when I use it the screen turn off just by moving it a little bit. When it do it it it's only after a few second otherwise it works totally fine. Sometimes I use it in my hand and just putting it in my table or in any flat surfaces turn the screen off and grabing the phone again turn the screen on again... Is there a bad contact or a broken power button ? It feels like shaking the phone a little bit often help. I'm on the latest official Oreo, I have no special app installed and Ambiant Display and this kind of kinds are all disabled, I can only turn the screen on by power button.I have no boot-loop or problems like that. And it seems like it never turn on and off in my pocket.
Do you have an idea what could be the problem ?

I don't want to be an alarmist, but it doesn't sound good. Check your battery capacity with the Accubattery app. Just in case I would make sure your photos are being auto-backed up to the cloud and do a full backup of the phone, storing it on your PC. Enable usb debugging and allow oem unlock under dev settings. If your screen does die completely, you won't be able to get into your phone to do this. If you enable usb debugging, at least you will be able to adb pull any files you need off the phone. Check that battery health.

Yeah thank you buddy ! Don't worry, I do a full TWRP backup of my phone every week. Battery is working great, I don't have the below X% shuting down bug, no bootloop bug and I can do a whole day without charging (except if I play on my phone, which is normal). I'm thinking more about a bad contact of the screen connector or the power button.

The N6P has a magnetic sensor to turn off the screen with Folio case. My Nexus 7 has this feature and I can use my kernel (EX Kernel Manager) to enable/disable it. It is an option to toggle on or off under Settings>>Miscellaneous. That setting is not there for the N6P, but shouldn't be that difficult to implement if you are using EX kernel. I'd ask over in the dedicated EX Kernel thread. Maybe Flar2 can hook you up.

Has anyone else experienced their OnePlus 2 working fine *without* the back cover screwed on, but as soon as it was screwed on the phone stopped working and wouldn't start again? And, if so, did they ever sort out why?
Are you talking about the "click" cover? (rosewood, kevlar, sandstone etc?) or the one that reveals the battery? if its the "click" i can only imagine that it has to do something with the "style" indicator - those two metal contacts on the cover - it tells the phone which cover is installed (e.g. rosewood, kevlar etc) and OOS uses that info to change the theme and i would try to put a tape over the contacts.
if its the one underneath, i would check the battery contact as something similar happened to me when i attempted to replace the battery - the contact didnt "stick" and everytime i screwed the lid on it got loose and the phone wouldnt start (naturally, what else without battery )...check that out...

Thank you for your response. I have the "default" grey, slightly rough, back cover. (Which I like, by the way.) How does the phone detect which cover, it being made of plastic and thus non-conductive? Weird, but cool, unless it isn't working right. Will tape work to block it from detecting anything at all? Not sure why that would cause an issue.... but willing to try it.
Re the battery plug, with mine there is a minor but definite single and sometimes double click. When I don't get that, the plug isn't truly seated correctly. It doesn't come loose. In addition, the dark piece of tape on top of it creates another "press down" layer.
I've discovered, as an aside, that after unplugging the battery it is also a good idea to hold down the power, and up/down volume buttons. This old trick dissipates any "extra" static electricity in the phone trapped by unplugging the battery. When it is done, then the battery plugged in again, the phone will nearly always at least show some sign of power upon restart.
[Added later: My "old trick" in the above last paragraph stopped working right after I posted. It sounded so knowledgable, right? hahaha... or sigh.)
Hey guys,
I recently changed the battery on my A2017G, I was very careful not to damage anything and to dismount everything properly.
After putting the phone back together, somehow it didn't want to boot anymore (bootstack screen, and then blinking red led with everything except fastboot).
I figured it was a software issue, since it got solved with a full EDL flash. I still don't know how a battery change could have messed that up.
But now, the right capacitive button (recent apps) doesn't react at all anymore. The home and previous buttons still work perfectly.
I flashed other EDL roms, did a full factory reset, or tried swapping buttons, nothing changes, still the right one isn't reacting.
I carefully checked all the flex cables and connectors inside the phone, they all seem as good as new, no scratch, bend or any other damage.
So my question is, could it be a software issue? Since the EDL full flash is not always doing things correctly...
If it's a hardware issue, I guess I could have messed up the screen flex cable without leaving a mark on it.
But wouldn't that prevent all the buttons to work?
I just want to be sure, before buying a new screen frame (those aren't cheap).
Thanks

You would need to buy a new screen (i.e. around $90) so I say you should start looking into gesture navigation or at least on-screen navbar if nothing works out... the capacitive sensors are affixed to the screen.
I usually had my Back button crap out, but weirdly enough it would start working either after doing a lot of pressure on it or after a reboot.
The capacitive button surely comes through the screen connector, did you check that?

Yes I did, it seems in perfect state.
My theory is that I might have accidentally put some pressure on this flex connector with my plastic tool, while trying to remove the battery.
There are no visible damages, but maybe it's just damaged inside.
Right now I'm using the MiPop, but it's less than ideal...
I wish there was a way to put the on screen softkeys back and disable de hardware ones.
Probably enabling the softkeys isn't that hard, but disabling the hardware ones... ?

Try Fluid Navigation Gestures, I'm currently on another phone with navbar and i'm using that. it's very nice and doesn't use screen space
To enable the navbar you should be on a custom ROM or at least on Chinese MiFavor, I'm not sure if it's possible on G/U systems and I recall not being able to enable the navbar on these
actually I just found that:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/themes/a2017g-navigation-bar-enabler-disabler-t3740817
since I'm also using raystef66's custom rom, I guess it's perfect
