[Q] LED Blinks instead of Fade - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that my LG G2's LED blinks on/off rather than my previous devices that have had a nice, smooth fade from off to on. I'm thinking that this is a kernel issue. It can't be a hardware limitation because the LEDs are able to smoothly fade during boot. Does anyone have some insight into this?

Green LED light staying on... can't figure out why

I (of course) do not have root, but I am running light flow. It seems to be working fine, the LEDs that should go on are working and in the proper colors.
I have unchecked all the LED notifications under settings.
However, when I turn my phone off, the green LED light goes on immediately. It is not plugged in, and it's down to around 92% battery or so.
I even tried disabling all charging/battery related LEDs but still the green LED is on.
Anyone else having this? Any thoughts?

And I was wanting to download and use that.
Yes, I see after further testing that uninstalling light flow fixes the issue. Dangit, it appears light flow is far and away the best LED app. I put a note in feedback about it, hopefully the dev will be able to solve it. I'll try it again once we have root for the US version.
Any know if the light flow creator is working on this?
It's listed in the known issues on the developer's site, so I assume they are working on it:
hxxp://www.folioflow.com/ff/page/website/lightflow/pageId/1931
it has something to do with interactions with the built in notifications.. if you disable them then light flo doesnt work.. if you turn them on then whenever the phone goes to sleep a green light comes on.. bummer
i used the LED color tester app and all the LEDs colors are off from what the previous commands were, i guess... so its going to be a while until the led programs work properly

BlinkingButtons: notification led blinks together with keys :)

Do you remember HTC One X blinking buttons notifications?
Good news, it's now back on HTC One as well with TeaMSeven's new Stable Edition kernel release 3.9.2.
What does it mean?
It means that the Buttons backlight will blink when you get a notification and notification led is blinking. (Won't blink when screen is on. Also buttons won't blink when plugged into USB, because HTC's liblights won't call the blinking when charging amber led is on)
Check this video:
TeaMSeven kernel announcement and download:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41009146&postcount=311
It's implemented on lowest level (microcontroller), and it let's the device CPU sleep fine. Although it surely will eat a bit more battery because the capacitive buttons eat more than standard notif led - so it's optional in the kernel installation, but for some it maybe worthy to have it enabled.
Also as far as the One X experience has shown us, it doesnt eat too much nevertheless.
Someone (sorry for lack of source, but it was on xda no less) tested a device with no bln and constant bln and the difference in battery exhaustion was a total of 2-4 minutes, ie literally negligible. The H1's lights aren't as blinding as say the GS2 so that could also benefit.

Thanks for the heads up about these! I can say that the bln stuff looks really elegant on the HTC one.. just like it looked on HTC hero or desire z or the onex

Is there any way to control them? For instance, the HTC led only blinks for 5 minutes. Could we set this to blink until the screen turns on, or until notification drawer is pulled down, or something like that. Also, quiet hours?

The five minute thing is not possible but
When screen is turned on it will stop blinking. ( that said it annoys me that the roaster led stops after five minutes by default but that is subjective)
Quite hours would be a Rom thing so that it switches it off. The possibility is there but it's not for the kernel development.

Yes but as soon as screen goes off it starts blinking again, right, Unless you clear the notification?

no, it wont start. The functionality is tied by how the HTC's so called lights library (non-kernel part) works. In the case you described this library is not setting the notification led to Blinking as it's already is blinking. So there won't be an event on kernel level that will switch button lights on again.
In one case will it start, when you unplug device from charging and screen is off, and blink event starts on the notification led. Then it will start, until you turn screen on
Is it possible to disable the notification leds entirely while the screen is on, and instead have the cap keys blink? That would solve the blinding LED issue.
Problem
tbalden, i have a problem with the teaMSeven kernel for CM11, i run the cm11 nightly on my htc one, and when i flash the kernel all works fine but the battery percentage is stuck at 4%. Fix it please

[Discussion] Notification Led very bad, solutions?

Hello. Since I dont see any complains or posts about notification led, I create this post so we can share our opinions
I mean, our led is weak, not multicolor, it stops blinking after a few minutes, and when it is charging it is useless because does not blink at all (stays red).
The multicolor and weak issue it´s hardware..So I dont think there is any solution (multicolor is very useful, for example to tell apart whatsapp mesage or group, so maybe is more or less urgent..)
But, do you know any solution for "blinking time" issue and the charging issue. I read that Viper Rom has some Mod or something, but I prefer staying in stock for the time being (however, I do have root)
On the other hand, i have tried light flow app, but I do not get the led blinking, it keeps static
Thank you for your help!
Custom kernels have blink button led lights so the home and back buttons blink , this is excellent.

I think some GPE roms let you choose to have blinking led for notifications even when charging and yes, ViperOne lets you specify how long the led should blink for (its set to 60 minutes by default! lol) and you can also turn on led blinking when charging
Use Light Flow LED app from the play store. It provides an option to set different colors for different notifications.

Okey, so that could be a good solution. However I am gonna stay on stock rom until 4.4 goes out, then I surely will try some roms with this tweak

Yeah mate I tried it, it seems to work, even it gets a weird yellow led, but the led stays static, I couldn't get it blinking
Came from a long line of blackberry's so the LED is probably one of the only things I really miss. You said you're rooted, have a look around in /system/customize/ACC/default.xml or whatever your CID's xml file is:

5
- change the 5 to 0 and you should get no led timeout.
I also did the following (personal preference, I charge at night using a dock so i like to be able to glance over and see if theres anything waiting when on silent):

false
- change from false to true and the led will blink for a notification even if it's charging.
Terrible LED is for me the only thing wrong with the One. Real shame. A partial solution for me is to install Dynamic Notifications (free/paid app) which give a Moto X type visual when notifications are received. I set it so the screen goes white instead of black and flashes every minute or so after a notification arrives. Still not ideal but saves relying on the crappy LED!

Really? That's so awesome. I will wait to arrive home to try that, just in case something goes wrong... But thank you so much, if it works.. That's all I was looking for
So then the only bad thing would be that it still weak and not multicolour. To be honest, is the only bad thing I can found in this amazing phone
You are wrong i think...

Dear friend the all think with the notification led is so wired for me.I bought my one with vodafone branded new with 4.1. something firmware i think. The notification led in that firmware was bright enough no problem at all. With the 4.3 firmware witch i had now the intensity of the notification led has reduced significantly, plus i noticed that if your phone switch of during to battery empty and then you plug it for charging, the notification led opens for 5 seconds as normal as in the previous android versions....then looses its power again....So i think that this is not a hardware problem .

Yup, agree about the LED, the green/red is a hardware limitation by HTC so lightflow and other 3rd party apps don't work in changing the colour.
I didn't explain the above fully but let me know if you any issues, will be happy to help.
Hmm I have not noticed less brightness with the last update, I feel it as weak as before..

Was just searching for light flow fix htc one and found this. Bummer but thanks
Would we cool if we at least could somehow mix the red/green blinks, ie having WhatsApp blinking red-green and LINE green-red. Is not much but at least would be something. You can even take it further and have more blinking states like green-green-red or red-green-red-green and so on. Xposed module anyone?

I was exactly thinking the same buddy!
also is there a way to make the 'back' and 'home' buttons bink, without installing another kernel?

I think it's possible (search on the Market). The main difference (I believe) is that the kernel-solution will not drain the battery (other than the power consumed by the lights) and a application should be running on the background all the time listening to all apps thus draining a lot more battery. This is just the way I see it, I don't not if it's really the case!
It stops after a few minutes because It would we shifty annoying if it's keep flashing in 2 hours...

[Q] LG G2 LED Blink/Fade

I was just curious if anyone here has noticed that the LED on the G2 for notifications does not slowly fade in and out like almost every other Android device I've used. Instead, it just blinks. I much prefer the pretty fade of the LED. I'm currently using Light Flow to control my LED. I'm thinking that the phone only blinking the LED rather than fading is an issue with the kernel since I've flashed other ROMs (including AOSP based ROMs) and still am getting the same results. Additionally, I know that this is not a hardware limitation because when the G2 first boots up, the LED fades between green, blue, and off.
Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone have any way to have the LED fade rather than blink?

LED notification light not working

A day or 2 ago, my notification light has stopped working on my Samsung Galaxy s8
I tried restarting the phone and turning the LED indicator option in settings on and off. It doesn't seem to help or fix it.
I wonder if i should return the phone since its still in warranty and get a replacement because charging the phone works but LED doesn't show it's charging like that red dot on top of the phone.
Could somebody help please.
Thank you, Kenny

Hi there, easy to diagnose.
Go to the phone dialer and dial this: #*0*#
A debug menu will appear, click the LED button (middle right).
It should light up the LED, click the screen to cycle between colors.
If this works correctly, then the issue is software/misuse/app conflict/whatever.
If it does not work correctly, then your LED needs servicing/repair.

There is a long discussion on this subforum about the LED issue, did you use any LED control applications?
Seems like something is killing the LEDs.
Just for future reference.

Hey ye i have had a look at the discussion in this sub forum and no i wasn't any sort of LED applications.
So i guess its my bad luck on getting a partial faulty device :/
Id assume its a hardware peoblem since they said reflashing the older firmware didn't work.
Thank you
(This was double posted from the main LED thread, don't know how to delete it, but it may help anyway)
To contribute to the discussion:
- there are some apps that only work in certain colors. For instance, Whatsapp is working with blue, but no other colors. I may have seen it blink once for another color, then never more.
- all apps using blue are working
- I have an app that is originally set to blink LIGHT blue and it is doing so.
- Telegram manages to blink pinkish
- charging is Red
- Fully charged is green (but again, green is not working on Whatsapp).
Looks like a software thing.
