BlinkingButtons: notification led blinks together with keys :) - One (M7) General

Do you remember HTC One X blinking buttons notifications?
Good news, it's now back on HTC One as well with TeaMSeven's new Stable Edition kernel release 3.9.2.
What does it mean?
It means that the Buttons backlight will blink when you get a notification and notification led is blinking. (Won't blink when screen is on. Also buttons won't blink when plugged into USB, because HTC's liblights won't call the blinking when charging amber led is on)
Check this video:
TeaMSeven kernel announcement and download:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41009146&postcount=311
It's implemented on lowest level (microcontroller), and it let's the device CPU sleep fine. Although it surely will eat a bit more battery because the capacitive buttons eat more than standard notif led - so it's optional in the kernel installation, but for some it maybe worthy to have it enabled.
Also as far as the One X experience has shown us, it doesnt eat too much nevertheless.

Someone (sorry for lack of source, but it was on xda no less) tested a device with no bln and constant bln and the difference in battery exhaustion was a total of 2-4 minutes, ie literally negligible. The H1's lights aren't as blinding as say the GS2 so that could also benefit.

Thanks for the heads up about these! I can say that the bln stuff looks really elegant on the HTC one.. just like it looked on HTC hero or desire z or the onex

Is there any way to control them? For instance, the HTC led only blinks for 5 minutes. Could we set this to blink until the screen turns on, or until notification drawer is pulled down, or something like that. Also, quiet hours?

The five minute thing is not possible but
When screen is turned on it will stop blinking. ( that said it annoys me that the roaster led stops after five minutes by default but that is subjective)
Quite hours would be a Rom thing so that it switches it off. The possibility is there but it's not for the kernel development.

Yes but as soon as screen goes off it starts blinking again, right, Unless you clear the notification?

no, it wont start. The functionality is tied by how the HTC's so called lights library (non-kernel part) works. In the case you described this library is not setting the notification led to Blinking as it's already is blinking. So there won't be an event on kernel level that will switch button lights on again.
In one case will it start, when you unplug device from charging and screen is off, and blink event starts on the notification led. Then it will start, until you turn screen on

Is it possible to disable the notification leds entirely while the screen is on, and instead have the cap keys blink? That would solve the blinding LED issue.

Problem
tbalden, i have a problem with the teaMSeven kernel for CM11, i run the cm11 nightly on my htc one, and when i flash the kernel all works fine but the battery percentage is stuck at 4%. Fix it please

LED not working as well after Gingerbread update

i was an early adopter of the Atrix and i've noticed that ever since i've been on a gingerbread ROM, the LED won't come on while the screen is still on. this is extremely annoying since it used to do this on Froyo, and i've even tested it in Handcent and it says our phones won't allow it.. has any one else experienced this?
Let the lightflow.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Lightflow will alow the LED while the screen is on in root mode but then it only does half your colors for some reason..
I only use 4 colors. It works for me screen on or off. Except when testing. Screen has to be off.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Funny, cause i don't recall the led EVER blinking when the screen was on. I mean... why would it have to? If the screen is on, you more than likely have the notification bar right there to tell you what's going on.

I don't remember that either. (LED staying on when you turn on the screen)
The only thing that is different for me is when I was on original stock Froyo compared to the update afterwards.
The original stock kept the LED on forever, and the update definitely shortened that. I used to like looking on the nightstand to see if the LED was on, now it kinda defeats the purpose of it...

well maybe you don't get enough notifications to notice but it actually makes plenty of sense to blink while its on if for example you are playing a full screen game with haptic feedback turned on and you can't discern a text vibration from the game and you'd like to know if you got a text

Green LED light staying on... can't figure out why

I (of course) do not have root, but I am running light flow. It seems to be working fine, the LEDs that should go on are working and in the proper colors.
I have unchecked all the LED notifications under settings.
However, when I turn my phone off, the green LED light goes on immediately. It is not plugged in, and it's down to around 92% battery or so.
I even tried disabling all charging/battery related LEDs but still the green LED is on.
Anyone else having this? Any thoughts?

And I was wanting to download and use that.
Yes, I see after further testing that uninstalling light flow fixes the issue. Dangit, it appears light flow is far and away the best LED app. I put a note in feedback about it, hopefully the dev will be able to solve it. I'll try it again once we have root for the US version.
Any know if the light flow creator is working on this?
It's listed in the known issues on the developer's site, so I assume they are working on it:
hxxp://www.folioflow.com/ff/page/website/lightflow/pageId/1931
it has something to do with interactions with the built in notifications.. if you disable them then light flo doesnt work.. if you turn them on then whenever the phone goes to sleep a green light comes on.. bummer
i used the LED color tester app and all the LEDs colors are off from what the previous commands were, i guess... so its going to be a while until the led programs work properly

LED Notification Light Not Working

Does any else have a issue with their LED Notification Light not working?
No light when charging, or SMS, or Email, Missed Call, Low Battery... never lights up. Almost thought they forgot to install the LED until I used LightFlow to test it. And even then it only works when the screen is off, once the power button is pressed to turn the screen on then LED goes off, even though I set LightFlow to clear notification Manually. (LightFlow was just used to test if the LED was installed/functional.)
Uninstalled LightFlow, send myself a couple test emails and text(from another phone) and There was no LED notification light, just the notification sound.
Really hoping this is a software issues so I don't have to request a replacement device from Google...
Edit/Update: I'm pretty sure this is a software related issue and not hardware, as the LED is there and functions (with the help of 3rd party app, which we should not have to use) - So I'm trying to get a poll here of how many people have issues with the LED Notification light not working. Something to report to Google/Bug Report.

I believe the reason is that the software has not been updated to be completely compatible with 4.2+

Mine doesn't work either. I tried LightFlow and while it did light up the LED for some things, but not all that I selected, it was too faint to see, have to be in total darkness to see it.
The led isn't supposed to flash when the screen is on. Its been this way with every nexus.

Mine worked, but not really well, I only saw it once when sending myself a test mail. Now I'm using Light Flow, which works nearly perfect (sometimes it doesn't seem to work until I enable the screen for a second and then disable it again)

Pulse notification light is checked
Im having the same problem. My led doesnt seem to come on no matter what. I know it worked out of the box because I have seen it light up with light flow but now im wondering if it quit completely and if I should do an RMA.
Mine has been working fine. It's white for TXT's, green for a lot of other things like FB and whatsapp
Yes the "Pulse notification light" option is checked.
I woke today with 6 New emails, 4 text messages, and 1 missed call... No LED Notification light was on, blinking or doing anything.
There not being a notification light is bugging the heck out me, 'cause I depend on them when my phone is on silent at work so I'm able to know there is a message waiting without having to stop what Im doing to turn the screen on every 5 min.

Try 'Blink'
Try the app 'Blink' very simple and its works for my N4
are you waiting 10 seconds before turning the phone on? Thats how long it takes before it blinks again. Whoever programmed the LED truly hates LED notifications because he made it blink so slowly and dimly that nobody could possibly notice it.

Yup, sat there watching the phone for a good 2-3 min after hearing the Notification sound for new email / text. (screen off)
Not sure if its suppose to or not, but I don't even get a LED Notification light when the phone is charging or charged (have to turn phone on to check if the phone is done charging.) Past devices I've had used the LED to notify of charging/charged.
It's normal that it doesn't glow when charging. I really can recommend Light Flow, then you can customise the notification as you wish (the free version is good, I bought the full version because I need steam support, but for normal use there is no need to buy it)
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 4
Ok, so my notification light wouldnt work no matter what. I uninstalled sms popup and now light flow works like it should. I guess the sms popup was somehow blocking light flow from allowing it to activate.
No notification light shows while charging, hence why when you charge the phone when it's off, it shows an animation on the screen. It should for calls, texts, emails, etc. though. Mine works. It even shows blue for facebook and white for texts/emails. Not sure why it wouldn't work. Have you gotten the 4.2.1 update?
Additionally, light flow states in its description that it doesn't work on most lg phones.

Question regarding notifications and the display

On previous phones, when I got a notification, say a text message, the screen would light up and I could tell I had to check my phone. On my N4, when I get a text the phone only vibrates and the screen doesn't light up. Is there a way to have it light up? I tried looking through all the settings but couldn't find anything, and I find it rather odd LG would set their phone up like this.
Also- is there a way so that the pulse notification light goes off more frequently? right now I have to wait about 10 seconds for the next pulse light to go off, making the notification LED rather useless if i miss it the first time.
Thanks.

There's custom ROMs such as CarbonROM, Xylon, ParanoidAndroid, or XenonHD and so many others) that let you configure the colour, blink rate, and application-specificity of your LED indicator. You can also look at Liteflow to customize your LED notification if you'd rather not go to custom ROMs

This. But if you are rooted and having a custom ROM, they integrate it by default. But if it's really waking up the device you want, you might want to try an app called SMS WakeUp. (You can get it from the Play Store)

[Discussion] Notification Led very bad, solutions?

Hello. Since I dont see any complains or posts about notification led, I create this post so we can share our opinions
I mean, our led is weak, not multicolor, it stops blinking after a few minutes, and when it is charging it is useless because does not blink at all (stays red).
The multicolor and weak issue it´s hardware..So I dont think there is any solution (multicolor is very useful, for example to tell apart whatsapp mesage or group, so maybe is more or less urgent..)
But, do you know any solution for "blinking time" issue and the charging issue. I read that Viper Rom has some Mod or something, but I prefer staying in stock for the time being (however, I do have root)
On the other hand, i have tried light flow app, but I do not get the led blinking, it keeps static
Thank you for your help!
Custom kernels have blink button led lights so the home and back buttons blink , this is excellent.

I think some GPE roms let you choose to have blinking led for notifications even when charging and yes, ViperOne lets you specify how long the led should blink for (its set to 60 minutes by default! lol) and you can also turn on led blinking when charging
Use Light Flow LED app from the play store. It provides an option to set different colors for different notifications.

Yeah mate I tried it, it seems to work, even it gets a weird yellow led, but the led stays static, I couldn't get it blinking
Came from a long line of blackberry's so the LED is probably one of the only things I really miss. You said you're rooted, have a look around in /system/customize/ACC/default.xml or whatever your CID's xml file is:

5
- change the 5 to 0 and you should get no led timeout.
I also did the following (personal preference, I charge at night using a dock so i like to be able to glance over and see if theres anything waiting when on silent):

false
- change from false to true and the led will blink for a notification even if it's charging.
Terrible LED is for me the only thing wrong with the One. Real shame. A partial solution for me is to install Dynamic Notifications (free/paid app) which give a Moto X type visual when notifications are received. I set it so the screen goes white instead of black and flashes every minute or so after a notification arrives. Still not ideal but saves relying on the crappy LED!

Dear friend the all think with the notification led is so wired for me.I bought my one with vodafone branded new with 4.1. something firmware i think. The notification led in that firmware was bright enough no problem at all. With the 4.3 firmware witch i had now the intensity of the notification led has reduced significantly, plus i noticed that if your phone switch of during to battery empty and then you plug it for charging, the notification led opens for 5 seconds as normal as in the previous android versions....then looses its power again....So i think that this is not a hardware problem .

Would we cool if we at least could somehow mix the red/green blinks, ie having WhatsApp blinking red-green and LINE green-red. Is not much but at least would be something. You can even take it further and have more blinking states like green-green-red or red-green-red-green and so on. Xposed module anyone?

I think it's possible (search on the Market). The main difference (I believe) is that the kernel-solution will not drain the battery (other than the power consumed by the lights) and a application should be running on the background all the time listening to all apps thus draining a lot more battery. This is just the way I see it, I don't not if it's really the case!
