Hey all,
As the title says: I'm having random reboots while using the camera. First it freezes for about 3 seconds and then hot boots into the Nexus logo. It happened 3 times over the past month so it isn't bad, but still not as it should. I'm on unrooted stock.
Any experiences/tips?

He's not rooted so it's some issue with the stock firmware. TC you can try factory reset.

Yes I see I failed to read the last sentence haha. I would also recommend a factory reset.

I also thought that would be the eventual outcome, but I'm really not into that . I guess I can live with it then and I will unlock my bootloader when I get sick of stock so things will be alright .

Unlocked my bootloader and thus did a factory reset, but it still happens at times. Any ideas?

Same problem at some devices at a hungarian forum. Mine does it some time. We are afraid of hardware problem.
Edit - just noticed the date on the OP ...
Have you tried re-flashing the stock ROM? It would be worth a try.

Do you read what he posted???
I had this problem on a DHD. Althought this is not a dhd the problem might be the same.
That was battery related. When i changed the bad battery, my problems went away.
Usually if your phone reboots during camera shots, it means the battery is borked. RMA it man.
Is it confirmed battery related?

Who knows... I got it as well, I notice it happens while focusing with flash and/or taking photos with flash for long time then it got reboot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46312752) got it on stock camera app, with camera 360 tried the same situation and no reboot at all...
Maybe the flash warm the cpu or something which cause the reset...my battery temperature seems fine as I monitoring it.

Hi, Do you have a custom recovery installed? Reason Im asking is because I have difficulties to reproduce the problem after flashing a 4.3 factory image.
Edit: Im not sure what kind of impact a custom recovery could have. I have reproduced the issue on cm 10.1.3, Cm 10.2 and a stock rom flashed via cwm. But as I said, I have problems to reproduce it after flashing 4.3 factory image.

No mate, I'm on stock clean (without root/open bootloader) as it comes from google play 4.2.2 (I even didn't update to 4.3 just to check the stability of this version).
Now I got it again, I can confirm its nothing to do with 'heat' or anything about hot cpu...the device was cold. At this time also wifi was off so if someone had a thought...its nothing to do with it.
Seems its some bug with the stock camera app and/or gallery app... Shots only 2 photos with flash, take a look at the gallery and it got freeze and reboot.
Maybe the option to move from gallery to camera with only swiping...donno... Anyway its happening only when flash on so its weird....
Do you got this reboot only with macro flash photos or any type of flash photos?
Again, tried camera360 with more flash shots at macro and seems works without any problems , also Ive found it more accurate then stock one, eventough I like the stock app.
Has anyone found the problem cause I'm also having this same problem. Its happened three times, two of the times it was when focusing with flash. The phone just froze and rebooted. I did notice that before it rebooted I heard the camera aperture shutter a few time really quick and the the phone rebooted. The other time it was when I went from camera to gallery and zoomed in on the picture I had just taken.
I maybe thought it was the ROM problem but to hear you say its happened to you on stock ROM and not rooted my not sure what it is. If it matters I was on AOKP 4.2.2 and cm10.1.2 ,cm10.13.

Have been asking about this problem for days and no one has answered me yet. For the past few days Android System has been using the majority of my battery. Always around 30% or more. I attached screens so you can see the processes running underneath "Android System"

You probably didn't receive an answer because there are COUNTLESS threads on how to find out for yourself what is causing your drain and how to fix it. People need to stop expecting to be spoon fed solutions. You're on a developers forum where there are guaranteed to be bugs and issues, If you can't deal with that, don't hang out here.
Someone had to be the asshole haha
The only solution I can think of, is to periodically close the apps you're using the least, Again though if this doesn't work then of course do the good old factory reset and try again. Anything past that and it's hardware issues.
Download something like Better Battery Stats and see if one of your apps is causing wakelocks. If you don't see any wakelocks, I'd say the next step is to check your CPU settings. Different CPU governors keep the phone awake longer than others before dropping back to deep sleep which could cause higher system drain. Beyond that, if you're rooted reflash whatever you're running, if not try a factory reset.

I am stock rooted with the Google Experience Launcher.
Also, If I were to factory reset(Which I hope I dont have to), would it be safe to do so even though I am rooted with TWRP installed? Like will there be a risk bricking/bootlooping my phone if I factory reset while rooted with TWRP? Should i factory reset using TWRP or in the settings menu on my phone?
I had the same issue over the past few days, and as simple as it seems, rebooting fixed the problem for me.

Yes, you can even do the factory reset from within TWRP; just select the standard wipe option. I did it yesterday in prep for installing a new ROM. It does take awhile, but I had no problems and my internal "SD" memory wasn't touched.

Nope. It just takes you back to the starting blocks of whatever ROM you have loaded. For instance, if you're on stock it takes you back to Day 1 of owning the phone, but doesn't erase anything on the "Internal SD". If you've loaded another ROM, say Malladus or something, it will just take you back to the base of that ROM, with no mods or personal settings.
This is happening to a lot of different people on a lot of different devices. FYI.

I dont know whats up with my Nexus 4 battery but its acting weird.
Sometimes at around 40% (or 30%, or 20%) my phone just switches off, then when I put it to charge and switch it back on, the phone is at 1%.
I tried calibrating the battery properly several several times with no luck
This happened when I was in 4.2.2 first. After that when I flashed 4.3 factory image the problem was solved.
Now when I flashed the Kit Kat image, I have this issue again. I'm really annoyed with this as I cant take my phone outside without knowing how much battery I REALLY have left.
I need help here please.
SOLVED: I guess the problem was because of a faulty battery. My old battery was swelling, so I replaced it and these problems were all solved

I just came here to post the same thread! Yesterday my phone just went dark without any sign or switching off animation at about 25% battery. I plugged it in and now when it got to 76% it just went straight to 100% full battery. Obviously while discharging it it will switch off again at 20-25%. What can we do? Completely stock, unrooted, 4.4 Kit kat sideloaded. Edit: Did the factory reset after 4.4 kit kat
you can try factory reset (wipe all data), or a clean flash 4.4.

Hi everyone
So I update my N9005 to the official polish kitkat firmware and I've been experiencing episodes of screen unresponsiveness very often. Anybody else has this problem? Anybody managed to fix it?
P.S I'm aware of the counterfeit/unoriginal s-view flip covers issue which I'm having as well but the thread isn't about it.
Hope someone has a solution.

Hello, I have been experiencing moments of "freezing" or unresponsiveness as well.
For me, it seemed to be due to chrome or using power saving mode. (People in another forum were blaming their droid maxxs freezing problem on chrome) I disabled chrome and disabled power saving mode.
Then I started using opera. I experienced another moment of unresponsiveness using opera without the power saving mode.
I was thinking back to the first times that it happened and it seemed to be paired to the wifi download and upload symbol being active in upload and download activity.
I know that correlation does not mean causation, but I think it is worth exploring if the network activity is causing it to somehow hang.
This bizzar occurance made me perform a factory wipe leading to another round of issues involving processing err_0000, but that is another story; sadly, it didn't even fix the issue.
OP, are you still experiencing the moments of unresponsiveness? If you are, have you noticed the events that are correlated with the event?
Has anybody else experienced this or found a remedy?
It could be one of the apps from the play store that is not playing nice with kitkat, but due to the multitude of other issues, I'd say it is a kitkat or touchwiz flaw.
Thanks for any help.
Lago

I had an issue with screen not responding sometimes .....I figured out it was due to the flip case (original by Samsung). Although lately I haven't experienced that either.

Battery life is looking good. Power Saving off, bluetooth on and connected to my smart watch.
I made one short call. I don't talk on the phone that much. I mostly use it for Internet browsing, music, and instant messaging/texting. I'll update on Tuesday when I have a full day at school.
Keep in mind though that the n9005 is the lte version. I have a n900, the non lte international variant; our battery life may be different.
Edit: 4/20/2014 same charge 70% 1 day 6 hours bluetooth, wifi, gps, and 1 Gmail account in sync.

Even I experienced the same. My phone came with Kitkat installed. Freezing happens when a webpage is loading or the time i turn on Sync etc. strange thing is phone seems smooter when power save mode turned on.
I think it may be a problem that was not fixed until the March 31st 2014 KitKat build. I have been using Chrome heavily since I installed the most recent official rom; I have not experienced any lag or hanging system wide or in the browser. It reminds me of 4.3.
When I wiped and reinstalled the previous rom, I noticed the lag and unresponsiveness right away.
I'm going to use the browser heavily next week. If I have no issues, I think it may be safe to say that the bug was fixed in the latest kitkat with March 31st 2014 build date.
People with lag, do you have the lte variant or the regular SM-N900? I'm starting to think only the SM-N900 are being impacted by sour Sammy updates.
And if you guys wipe your phones, make sure to turn reactivation lock off because it could cause an error that will not recognize your real Sammy account and password. This phone has become stressful; I'm not updating it again lol

Now, just before I shut down, I saw a little android where SuperSU & AirDroid apps was supposed to be, which means they were uninstalled without my knowledge. Lol I think it's just a problem with your charger. But to be sure,do you use everything stock on this phone?
Does anyone know which college or university has such a mobile hacking course like this. I'll take it. It sounds fun though.

It was a Motorola charger, so I think it'd be OK.

Aliens man.... but no, your fine. Phones can just exhibit bizarre behavior. Especially debris on the screen, etc there's tons of factors that could have resulted in that.

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning towards the charger theory.

Try to change to another rom then.

I dont think it's because of this, butI agree it was really strange habbits.. I had one situation with my Lg g2 I never experienced before witch was weird. When I rstared the phone one day, the led continue blinking. Tried restart and wipe cache/dalvik etc but same problem. When the phone had been on for a couple of hours it stopped blinking, and I have never had the problem after. Strange things with these LG stuff
