[SOLVED] Frustrating Battery Problem! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont know whats up with my Nexus 4 battery but its acting weird.
Sometimes at around 40% (or 30%, or 20%) my phone just switches off, then when I put it to charge and switch it back on, the phone is at 1%.
I tried calibrating the battery properly several several times with no luck
This happened when I was in 4.2.2 first. After that when I flashed 4.3 factory image the problem was solved.
Now when I flashed the Kit Kat image, I have this issue again. I'm really annoyed with this as I cant take my phone outside without knowing how much battery I REALLY have left.
I need help here please.
SOLVED: I guess the problem was because of a faulty battery. My old battery was swelling, so I replaced it and these problems were all solved

I just came here to post the same thread! Yesterday my phone just went dark without any sign or switching off animation at about 25% battery. I plugged it in and now when it got to 76% it just went straight to 100% full battery. Obviously while discharging it it will switch off again at 20-25%. What can we do? Completely stock, unrooted, 4.4 Kit kat sideloaded. Edit: Did the factory reset after 4.4 kit kat

you can try factory reset (wipe all data), or a clean flash 4.4.

And how long did it take to fix your friends phone?

Repairing is really relative. It can take from 2 up to 3 weeks usually. I was told it would take three and got it back after two. My issue was that I couldn't hear the person speak in calls though.
Good luck

It seems like you have a faulty battery. IMO, it has nothing to do with the software.

Alright, I flashed back to 4.3 and going to see if this problem happens again, just to confirm that it works on 4.3

Yep, but never been on 4.2.2, I took mine when 4.3 was out there. And moreover mine is bought from the UK play store just like yours I guess. Don't know whether flashing the factory 4.4 image will solve the issue though. :/ Factory reset didn't.

But how come the issue was triggered when updating to 4.4? my battery never had such problems with 4.3. It has to be something related to the calibration...

Does your phone just randomly switch off, without the Powering off dialog box?
Mine does that randomly, the screen just switches off. When I switch on there's enough battery remaining.

Nope. Mine doesn't do that..yet. But when it gets to 30% it switches off without the powering off dialog box, yes. Black screen. When I plugged it in, it starts from 1%

Random reboots using the camera?

Hey all,
As the title says: I'm having random reboots while using the camera. First it freezes for about 3 seconds and then hot boots into the Nexus logo. It happened 3 times over the past month so it isn't bad, but still not as it should. I'm on unrooted stock.
Any experiences/tips?

Yes I see I failed to read the last sentence haha. I would also recommend a factory reset.

I also thought that would be the eventual outcome, but I'm really not into that . I guess I can live with it then and I will unlock my bootloader when I get sick of stock so things will be alright .

Unlocked my bootloader and thus did a factory reset, but it still happens at times. Any ideas?

Same problem at some devices at a hungarian forum. Mine does it some time. We are afraid of hardware problem.
Edit - just noticed the date on the OP ...
Have you tried re-flashing the stock ROM? It would be worth a try.

Do you read what he posted???
I had this problem on a DHD. Althought this is not a dhd the problem might be the same.
That was battery related. When i changed the bad battery, my problems went away.
Usually if your phone reboots during camera shots, it means the battery is borked. RMA it man.
Is it confirmed battery related?

Who knows... I got it as well, I notice it happens while focusing with flash and/or taking photos with flash for long time then it got reboot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46312752) got it on stock camera app, with camera 360 tried the same situation and no reboot at all...
Maybe the flash warm the cpu or something which cause the reset...my battery temperature seems fine as I monitoring it.

Hi, Do you have a custom recovery installed? Reason Im asking is because I have difficulties to reproduce the problem after flashing a 4.3 factory image.
Edit: Im not sure what kind of impact a custom recovery could have. I have reproduced the issue on cm 10.1.3, Cm 10.2 and a stock rom flashed via cwm. But as I said, I have problems to reproduce it after flashing 4.3 factory image.

No mate, I'm on stock clean (without root/open bootloader) as it comes from google play 4.2.2 (I even didn't update to 4.3 just to check the stability of this version).
Now I got it again, I can confirm its nothing to do with 'heat' or anything about hot cpu...the device was cold. At this time also wifi was off so if someone had a thought...its nothing to do with it.
Seems its some bug with the stock camera app and/or gallery app... Shots only 2 photos with flash, take a look at the gallery and it got freeze and reboot.
Maybe the option to move from gallery to camera with only swiping...donno... Anyway its happening only when flash on so its weird....
Do you got this reboot only with macro flash photos or any type of flash photos?
Again, tried camera360 with more flash shots at macro and seems works without any problems , also Ive found it more accurate then stock one, eventough I like the stock app.
Has anyone found the problem cause I'm also having this same problem. Its happened three times, two of the times it was when focusing with flash. The phone just froze and rebooted. I did notice that before it rebooted I heard the camera aperture shutter a few time really quick and the the phone rebooted. The other time it was when I went from camera to gallery and zoomed in on the picture I had just taken.
I maybe thought it was the ROM problem but to hear you say its happened to you on stock ROM and not rooted my not sure what it is. If it matters I was on AOKP 4.2.2 and cm10.1.2 ,cm10.13.

It is normal. Battery level is an estimation and can fluctuate with reboots. I've had this with every phone with every rom, including stock.

uuuhmmmmmm quite weird... I think that must be a hw issue.. did u contact google? does this happen with every kernel?
I got my phone from a carrier in Canada and they will not honour the warranty because I bought it outright. I have tested stock and franco
Install BetterBatteryStats and see what the other wakelocks are.
Sometimes WakelockDetector does not show every wakelock that is happening.

And look what i said, WKD does not seem to be able to see all the wakelocks, install BBS and see if you get any extra wakelocks.
If that doesn't help, i would suggest you to do a complete reflash to stock and see if it still happens on stock.
turn off your wifi when you are not using it. there is a constant drain with a wifi connection.
Drain is STILL there with wifi and everything off (airplane mode)
I installed BetterBatteryStats and everything seems normal. In a 1 hour period the largest offender was msm_hsic_host and sns_async_evwakelock and suspend_backoff with a total of 4 min.
It seems to drain the same whether I use the phone or not.

I have a question. as you put the batteries you put blue tape too? It's a bit strange but maybe this is the reason because I threw my to the trash.it is called blue anti-electrostatic discharge tape
What blue tape? Do you are exepriencing usb connection problems too? I have all those symptoms after I've replaced my battery, and also the usb stopped working

Well, I didn't replace mine.. Could it be the culprit? Where can we buy that tape?
I doubt the tape is the issue.
Have any of you tried using another new battery?

How do I finally fix this instant battery drain problem?

i hope some of you have experienced this. i'm on carbon rom right now. sometimes when i'm in the middle of an app, it's just turn off and when i plug it in and turn it on the battery is at 0%. i've done a factory reset.
I have never had that happen before. Does your battery meter move? Like does it say sit at 50% for ages then all of a sudden your phone turns off.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
no, but it does happen around 50% from my experience.

Try out another ROM to see whether the battery drain still happens. If no, then it's the ROM's kernel.
Yeah I would try another rom or hell even stock. Maybe your battery is defective if a new rom doesn't help

If you installed via kdz then steps would be flash kdz then after you boot either turn off boot into the factory reset and factory reset device and then start using it or boot up and go to settings and factory reset

I agree that kk drains battery on the g2. I got a g flex and honestly have no issues with it whatsoever....its far better than the g2 in my opinion. There is no lag like how the g2 would hiccup scrolling through the stock launcher, the 720p resolution isnt also bad at all, there is no crazy battery drain either. The g flex is a bigger perfected g2 with knock code. Its awesome. Will probably be posting my g2 on swappa shortly.
Ok, Google...
Turning off the Google Now stuff will save battery, that
"Ok, Google" voice command feature leaves your microphone on, ALL THE TIME.

The G2 battery on most models is NOT removable....
Makes it ever-so slightly difficult.
