Hello,
I have got two wireless routers at home and my XDA Exec is connected to wireless router A.
i am trying to change the settings on my xda so that it connects to wireless router B, but i cant find the place where i can change the settings,
can you guys help me.
hi
i have managed to find out how to delete items from the list, by pushing hard on the stylus, i get the option of removing from the list.
I can't connect to the network which i want to connect to, originally i had it connect to my network "BTHome-hub" with no problem, and i wanted it to connect to my netgear router which is an unencrypted network, not connected to the internet.
to force it to reject the BTHome_hub, i changed the WEP key(yes, i am a noobie), so that i could get the next network, and then i started getting this problem of the xda showing all the devices in the neigbourhood as available (and some old devices which is shows as unavailable), and it runs through each of those available devices, trying to connect to each of them, and it fails to do that.
i have gone through a number of the posts on the forums. and have tried the following.
1. change Power Mode to Best Performance !! in my Wifi Settings.
2. i had no mac filtering on any of my routers, and have turned on mac router on one of the routers and added the mac address of my xda
3. i tried the following start-settings-connections-network cards-my network card connects work and rest to internet, this time around i was prompted for a password, whereas neither does my router have a password and the authentications i open and data encryption is disabled
(does connects to (in configure wireless network) the internet/work make any difference?
if one of the routers has a strongers signal than the other, would the xda wireless get confused and try to connect to the router with the stronger signal?
i was thinking that channel 11(on which i am) is quite busy and hence i changed the channel to channel 1, do i need to make the channel modiiications on the xda as well
what does the soft reset rest?
a) soft reset is like turning your desktop/laptop computer off and then on again. hard reset is like reinstalling the operating system on your pc.
b) if one router has such a bad signal that the universal loses the connection, the uni will look for another router. it will ask you which new one to connect to unless it already has settings for a new one.
c) if you're getting interference problems, set the router to channel 13. it's europe-legal only so american routers don't usually use it. your clients (pc's and your universal) will scan for the right channel.
d) at the pc shop where i work, we get LOTS of problems with BT Home Hubs' wifi - so don't think it's your fault, it probably isn't.
Hi All,
I too have a strange WiFi issue. Here goes:
My phone is able to connect to free WiFi stations and the WiFi station at my parent's place. When I try to connect at home, it connects but I am unable to browse.
I previously used WEP encryption and have also tried removing all encryption...but no luck.
Here are my current router settings:
Band 2.4 GHz B+G
Mode AP
Channel 9
Authentication Open
Preamble type Long
Broadcast SSID Disable
Encryption None
Use 802.1x Authentication Disabled
Phone Details
HTC Touch
Browser Netfront/IE
My laptops, DS Lite, Wii can connect and work with the router...
Any help will be highly appreciated
Check that you don't have MAC ADDRESS FILTERING at the router. It may be hidden under Filter settings, like my D-Link is. This may sound trivial, but more than once I forgot about the MAC filtering.
If that doesn't help you, then just to narrow it down, at my home I use WEP and disable SSID broadcast also, and my Touch can connect fine, and fast.
Scratch the last post! I had the same problem with my TOUCH..Just put the power level to the max (i.e. go Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN -> Power Mode -> and slide all the way LEFT to Best Performance) and all hail ..your problem solved
I also use a Touch. I put the slider all the way to the right (Best Battery) and I connect fine. You people must have a big house, or a crap router?

Wifi Problem!
Hi guys,
I've got a problem and I'm hoping you can help me out..
I've got a HTC TOUCH and when I got it the Wifi connection was working just fine.. I could connect to any WIFI network and Browse the internet.
After a month or two, my phone wouldn't connect to my home wifi network anymore. And neither would it connect to any other wifi networks (I tried!)..
I've been all over the internet trying to figure out what could have happened and if someone else was having these problems to.
I just can't find the answer and I feel like I already tried everything I could think of..
Hope some of you knows what to do..
I'd suggest looking at the Touch forum... I've got no experience of Touch devices, but it may be a Radio ROM issue...
kinda same issue I am facing ! donno
MY HTC TOUCH never connects to NETGEAR WIRELESS ACCESS POINT
but finds LINKSYS routers in a jiffy :O
are Wireless Access Point and.. Wireless routers different
they both emit diff. signals ?
I have the same issue with a TYTN II, can connect to the wireless, but can't open any web pages.
problem with htc & WPA-PSK passkey 25 characters
My htc tilt connects almost everywhere, but i have a problem with wpa-psk at work. The password is from 25 characters, I read some articles what WM cannot handle such length. Maybe it's possible to edit somehow the registry?
I have the same problem guys, what can we do to find a solution i tried everthing i could, and i even tested it out with my 2 wireless routers, and at public places it connects (at home it doesnt connect though).

Thanks a lot!
I had exactly the topic problem with manilla rom on my kaiser, could not use wifi any more. But with just sliding the meter to 'Best Performance' as suggested, wifi it once again works like a charm.
HTC Touch wifi solve
I had the same problem with my htc in WEP it dosen't browse, I changed the router to a better wifi protection like WPA-PSK, connected and worked fine, for some reason it only work's fine for a couple of minutes, I readed this post to put the sidebar in best performance and now everything works fine. An advice don't use WEP it's not secure at all.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_security maybe you fine this interesting and helpful.
I'm running into a problem were I can connect to an AP at work and surf the net fine but when I disassociate I cant connect to it again for a whole day. The AP must be saving some info and therefore will wait for the DHCP lease time to finish before allowing the touch to re-connect. I tried my laptop and was able to connect 3-4 times and never have a problem so it is isolated to the touch and windows mobile 6.1. To find some more info out I was able to clone the mac of the touch and use it as the laptops wifi cards mac. It connected fine on 3 consecutive tries.
Maybe windows mobile is missing some commands when disassociating from an AP and as a result leaving info out in nowhere land confusing the router.
Thanks for any help!
ok, here's me joining the club... dunno what happened... working one day, getting crap the next.
exact same problem as everyone else...connects to the wireless network, then when you try to surf, page cannot be found...
Exact same problem here.
In the beginning everything fine. Connecting to my home WiFi and using the internet without problems (weather, stocks, opera, email, google maps, even skype voip).
Then, last month, all programs are unable to find anything on the internet, although the device reports it is connected to my (unchanged) home WiFi.
All these programs work fine when the device is connected to the internet through activesync (usb cable).
Also this whole time I have been using my home WiFi with a laptop from both Vista and Ubuntu, with no problems, so I guess it's not the router.
Also have read in other fora about these wifi working - wifi not working "cycles" other people have had, with various WM devices. And various tricks like shutting wifi off and immediately on again.
I even hard reseted the device. Problem still there.
WTF?
Connected once only
Connected once only for a few minutes to my home router dir 310 D-Link, worked fine and fast. After that I closed the connection. Next day I tried to connect but my HTC Touch 3G doesn't see the router. I see any other routers, but I do not see mine. I connected to some friends routers with WEP and WPA encription just to be sure the phone working. During this I didn't changed the router or the phone settings. It is very strange. The problem maybe comes from the router.
I'm having the same issues with my HD2. Looking all over the place and seems to be a common fault, but thus far with no cure, I tried the power save mode
From new it worked like a dream, but then one day it would connect to AP's but act as if not connected. I flashed my ROM with the VERY impressive Merlion Leo v 2.66 and it all started working again. Then yesterday, it stopped again. I don't want to reflash, so I'm working hard to find a cure, and will report as soon as I find one.
---EDIT---
I've found a cure (for mine at least), not sure if it will work for everyone, and haven't managed to test it at any other AP's except for my home Router, but all I did was set the network card properties (Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter) to 'Use server-assigned IP address' instead of 'Use specific IP address'. I'm not sure why this worked as there was no IP address conflicts because there were no other devices connected to my router when I had problems, but it works for me, hopefully permanently
Good luck.
Try this. Its work perfect for me!

I know Google has said they are looking into it. But this is ridiculous. The N1 can not handle WPA2 connections. Even though it saves the connection and password, it almost never reconnects automatically. From what I was reading on the Google help forum, it appears to have compatibility issues with many retail routers and they suggest upgrading the firmware on our routers. Throughout my day, I may connect to 3 different APs. One is a standard Linksys wrt54g with sveasoft, the others I connect to are Cisco APs.
None of them automatically reconnect. Most of the time on the Linksys, I have to delete the connection on the phone and re-add it.
I still like this phone but between the 3g and wifi issue, it is a pain to use.
I won't pretend to understand all that you just said, but I can tell you that my router is set up using WPA2-PSK. Not sure if it is the same as just WPA2 but my N1 reconnects to mine whenever I get in range. Then at the office it will connect to the WPA2-PSK set up in there, and one more regular open connection that is available at our pool. Pretty much every time I look at it, it is connected to one of those 3. Or else if I am OOR of any of those, I am on 3G.
My home router is a Belkin -N. Work routers are a Netgear -N and a D-Link -N.
I've got a Netgear WNR2000 on WPA2, and I can confirm I occasionally have this issue with the phone not connecting to the network automatically. It usually does if I go into settings and touch it to reconnect again.
There is an easy solution for any WIFI problems, use a Mac Filter!!
I have to go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > WiFi Settings before my Nexus One will reconnect to my home router, which is also using WPA2-PSK.
Hopefully it'll be sorted in a firmware update, it is annoying having to go through 3 screens to do something that my Nokia Symbian phones have been doing without issue for almost5 years...
I am having no problems auto connecting to my home WPA2 network, I am using AES encryption and running DD-WRT firmware if it helps.

Mac Filters are no replacement for WPA2 or encryption. Almost every device has the ability to spoof a mac address. Using a mac filter might help quickly eject roaming devices nearby, but it is NOT security.
Its like using a No Trespassing sign to replace locking your doors and windows.
i found that APNDriod may be a possible culprit....
Before I installed APNDriod , every times I go back home, my N1 will connect to my home WiFi almost immediately.
But after I install APNDriod, my N1 will not connect to my home WiFI.....I need to go into the Wireless setting screen, once i am on that screen WiFi it will connect.
But it is strange this I don't have this issue in my office, it just connect automatically before and after installing APNDriod.
Today I tried NOT to use APNDriod for a day and my N1 connect to my home WiFi without issue..... will do more experiment tmr.
Netgear WNR3500 w/ WPA2-PSK. Reconnects every time I am in range.
I find that my Linksys is the worst. The Cisco Aironet 1121 is better, but still has occasional connection issues. And I have not installed APNDroid.
On another note, when my phone switches from 3g to 2g and vice versa, it takes a long time for the data connection to resume
My network at home is setup with WPA2. I have no problems connecting to it... I click on the little wireless icon, and wait for it to say "wireless settings updated" and also wait for the wireless icon to show up near the time... then i will start browsing
I have a Dynalink RTA1025W
My wifi is working now. See h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5773148&postcount=26
No problem reconnecting to my home network with WPA2 . Apple's Airport Extreme.
No problems here connecting to my Belkin N1 router. Connects the moment its in range.
Setup using WPA2-PSK
im having this exact same problem on my D-link Dir 615!
Pisses me off alot, i hope Google fix it!
I found that unless I was on channel 6 or 11 I had issues
AES-CCMP, TKIP or WPA Cisco521G will not connect
My cisco 521AP does not connect using any type of encryption, it only works with open authentication. Expensive phone like this that doesnt work with business class products is a joke.

My suggestion is - check what you're doing wrong before assuming the phone is at fault. And check that you're using PSK.
SEC AUTH ENCRYPTION
No security None Open - working
WEP WEP Open - no
WPA-PSK TKIP WPA-PSK - no
WPA2-PSK AES CCMP WPA-PSK - no
android 2.2 on N1, FRF91
I have my Tattoo rooted with 1.6 (can't recall the ROM name) with build number 1.67.405.6. Almost everything works fine except the connection with my home WiFi network. It's a PPPoE connection through ADSL modem. Next in line is the Netgear WG602 v3 WiFi router. At the beginning I couldn't connect at all so I changed the router's ROM to DD-WRT. Now I can connect with the router but no connection to the internet whatsoever. I can ping my router through my Tattoo, I can even open the 192.168.1.1 and mess around with its software but no connection to the internet. It is only limited to my Tattoo as I can connect through my laptop, through my other mobile (HTC S710) and also I can connect my Tattoo with any other WiFi (Secured or Open) with no problems at all.
I tried with no Security, with WEP, with WPA-PSK to no avail. Any other clues?
try running htc mail while you are using your wifi throuf your tattoo it worked for me
What is supposed to happen if I do that? I'm trying it as soon as I get home btw.
Nothing happened
Hi all...sorry for my interference but this problem is similar to mine.
I'm going mad from many weeks trying connect my Huawei Ideos (U8150) to my home wlan through a netgear VG602v3 AP. No way to do this.
Wifi works from my laptop and from my girlfriend's laptop, but from ideos it doesn't.
I turned off all wireless device in my house, I tried with/without WPA, I tried open network from channel #1 to channel #13, tried changing ssid and I also tried praying .
There is a weak wifi near here: it is on channel #1 and its power is between -89 and -82db. My wifi power (data from kismet) is between -50 and -18 db and is configured on channel #11.
In any cases, even if I put my Ideos near to AP antenna the story is ever the same:
- Ideos indentify the wifi network
- Ideos acquire the IP
- I open the browser or the android market and...
- Ideos lose connection...and so on.
I downloaded from work wifi (crypted with WPA) a wifi scanner from app store: it shows me the neighbour's weak wifi and my wifi network which appear and disappear recurrently.
Please, someone helps me (without suggest to buy another AP!!), any suggestions are welcome!!
Have you tried logging into the router and checking the privileges for devices. Some of them have a security element that restricts the use of the internet on newly connected devices until the setting is changed. I had a similar problem with a new laptop.
hope it helps.
I checked every setting to no avail. I still think somehow that my problem is with my router or adsl modem which doesn't connect automatically with PPPoE and Android doesn't have any command or software to initiate a PPPoE connection.
Other than that... Can't find any solution. Until then, I use connectify on my Win7 laptop. The thing is that I have to keep my laptop switched on as long as I'm in the house.

thank you for suggestion. I looked in depth but I did not found the option of which you were talking about. The unique solution still remains change the AP!!!
WiFi and Netgear Router
I think I finally found the answer. It appears Netgear routers support something called WiFi Multimedia. Its a QOS methodology. I disabled WiFi MM or WIMM as its sometimes called, as well as Internet QOS and all my problems connecting to web pages, the market, etc. through WiFi disappeared.
Strange that older versions of the ROM supported WIMM (or ignored it) and newer ones don't. But that solved the problem for me with no real degradation of performance on any of my other computers.
Good luck.
I have a weird situation. I have an SMC8014W-G modem/router at my upstairs desktop and D-Link DAP-1360 Range Extender on the main floor. I can connect from wifi being initially turned off to either spot no problem. BUT I cannot move my phone or tablet from one of their locations to another unless I turn off my Tablet`s WiFi for about 5-10 minutes before turning at back on at the new location, or it will not connect. This is a problem with my network, because the same thing happens on my android phone. Still working on it. I`ve seen others across the web talk about this problem with other mobile devices, while saying the problem doesn`t happen on PC type devices like laptops.
To test that out, I turned my phone's hotspot on. Using my tablet I was able to switch between my home connection and my phone's wifi signal back and forth with no delay at all. But moving from my router's location to my repeater's location could not be done unless I waited 5-10 minutes whether it's on my phone or my tablet.
The entire network is on "802.11 G" (can't used mixed mode or N, that's a whole other story we're not going to get into here) and both router and repeater are set to exactly the same gateway, DNS, network name etc. Encryption is WPA2. The only difference between them is that my main router is set to be a DHCP server, while the repeater is not (it says I can leave DHCP Server off if the router's is on. Perhaps that's wrong, I still have to try that). And my router settings only shows WPA2-PSK while my repeater has more detailed options showing WPA2 Cipher Type: AES PSK/EAP: Personal.

I have a similar problem with my TP-link WA5210G wifi extender.
My laptop connect fine, but my phones for some reason don't want to connect, they just stay on the obtaining IP and don't connect,i have mine in universal repeater.
And my phone and PS3 will just not connect.
I am guessing that you have this thing turned on in "Repeater Mode"?
Are you using it in Repeater or WDS mode?
Repeater but I solved the issue with newer router now it's handing off properly. There's a slight disconnect and reconnect for a few secs when moving between the 2 points but that's liveable

That's how it should be unless you're using the commercial routers I use at work. Those are generally way above consumer price points, though. Even at my house, I have a four second handoff time between router and AP.
