Computer wont recognize my G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime I connect via usb, it tries to install drivers but fails. I am unable to transfer files like music, pics and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.

Have you tried downloading and installing LG's PCSuite?

Try to change different connection mode on the phone, like storage mode to copies files or PC Suite to sync files like iTunes.

it might be the usb cord that is defective..

I've tried different cords and also different connect methods. I dont have the suit though, I'll download that and see how that goes. Its weird though because it was working prior to the kit kat update and tbh Im beginning to think its my computer that is having the issues and not my phone. But dont really know what to do about it.

You can also download the drivers from LG website on your phone models page.
Uninstall previous, install the new ones. Reboot computer.
Plug in phone and ignore the promotion phone to install. Choose appropriate mode for connecting and victory.
If not check in explorer on computer if phone is listed
That should do it

if you are talking about that little error in the bottom right of your computer screen that says something like usb failed to recognize with a yellow triangle, try rebooting that usually works for me if not
uninstall the lg driver
reboot then reinstall the lg driver and you should be good to go..

Hmm...idk but I think something wasn't right with my root. I checked on rootchecker and it was verified then I checked again it night and it wouldn't detect it. So I rerooted my phone and the connection seems to be working now. I hope this also takes care of all the other issues I've been having

[Q] How to Transfer files to the 10.1 via Windows 7

Hi All,
I've tried everything, including the usb drivers from the root guide and installing the Samsung Kies Mini program, but I can't get Windows to recognize the memory on the device. I want to transfer some movies on the Galaxy and have not been able to figure it out.
When I run the Kies software it says "plug in your usb" and when I plug in the Galaxy nothing happens...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It should work by just plugging in the usb/connector cable. You don't need Kies (doesnt support the 10.1 anyway right now)
When your pc does not recognize your tab, something is fishy about your pc/ usb.
USB connection should work:
(Autoplay should pop up
Select open device to connect (GT-P7510)
Click on phone
Select directory to copy file to)
Sounds like a PC problem. (Look in device manager and see if your USB controllers are ok)
Looked at Device Manager, no issues under USB.
Comes up as an Android phone...
forget the cable...
try 'Samba Fileshare' app free from the Market.
Connect to your 10.1 over WiFi and send files to it via the shared folder it creates.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba&feature=search_result
Worked fine for me without installing anything.
On another note, the Kies software does seem to somewhat support the 10.1 as it installed the required adb drivers when I chose it from the menu.
im having problems too.... for now I am using dropbox.
I have a shared folder on my PC and use ES File Explorer over Wifi, it's simple and works a treat. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop&feature=search_result

I had to disable USB Debugging to get mine to pop up. Took me a while.
Oh thank God I am not the only one having this problem,,, i have tried every driver combo out there plus leaving USB debugging off and still i get nothing on my windows 7 machine. I have tried three different machines and all the same so it is not a computer issue i think it is a driver issue or a interface with the tab????
Interesting thing though is that I can push via ADB all day it that connects easy!!! WTF?????

[Q] Error 43 mytouch 4g

Ok... first off im a noob to this forum but I know this is a legitimate issue not user error and ive spent the last 4 days scouring to get SOME information on this and the only thing ive found is remove battery and reset phone... HELLO!!!! thats step one on the list... sorry venting done...
Device: mytouch 4g
OS: Windows 7
When I got this phone i plugged it in and ran with no issues until i tried to root it without success... and when i tried the ADB method i found that the phone would no longer mount into windows 7 i have tried multiple computers and multiple cables so it's a device issue.
When I plug my phone into a computer it comes up with "searching for drivers" and fails... look in device manager and it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
Tried manually finding drivers and can't...
Tried "repairing" the install of HTC drivers that came off the HTC website and didn't work...
Tried installing PDA net to get different drivers... didnt work
uninstalled devices and get the same issue...
deleted upper and lower filters from registry
Tried every combination of fastboot/USB debug
even tried desperatly deleting cookies/cache/web history(found on another forum)
AND NOTHING WORKS...
if you can think of anything I haven't tried it would be nice

I would like to help you out but need to what rom is on your device and what exactly your trying to do on windows
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
It's running the complete stock rom... i believe it's called espresso... and all im trying to do with it right now is get it to show up in windows as a hard drive...
usually I would assume a driver issue (thats what windows thinks it is) but I've reinstalled the drivers around 10 times desperately and restored my computer to no avail so i think when i tried to root it the first time it flashed the usb firmware... if thats complete bs then just let me know... new to android... not new to computers...

For a Hard Drive
1lug your phone into the computer
2:On your phone, drag the top slider bar down to the bottom
3:There should be a notification that says charge only. Click on that and select Disk Drive, Mount as disk drive. Click that
Try that and let us know what happens.
Edit: If you are trying to use ADB you want to be on charge only and have USB debugging on . To get to debugging
Menu-settings-applications-development-USB debugging
yeah that was one of the first things I tried(i actually have that as default)... The problem is that my computer thinks its an unknown device when plugged in and I can't point it to the correct driver...
USB Debugging is enabled, correct?
Seems strange... have you even tried installing the driver on another computer?
I've tried debugging on and off...
And yes I've tried a different computer that was one of the second things I tried

sounds like a driver issue... i am not a 100% but thats what i sounds like.. download and install this program.. it uses the correct drivers.. just make sure u select "HTC" when prompted.. http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php goodluck report back
i tried that already and after trying again (just now) it failed again... i wish this was a simple driver issue...
I might be totally off but try changing your sd card and see whether your computer accepts it.
Also when installing drivers make sure your device is not connected to the computer.
Or try different USB port, or a factory reset.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
nope... different sd card/different usb port/factory reset didn't do it...
sky2k, I had some driver issues with my mt4g too.
Try this:
Download USBDeview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Download the drivers for your phone from HTC - http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-4g/downloads/
Run USBDeview AS ADMINISTRATOR. List all drivers in alphabetical order. Remove any and all associated with your mytouch 4g.
Reinstall drivers via HTC Sync software. Please let me know how this works for you.
Try to connect the phone with both the SD and SIM cards removed.
well guys im still having issues connecting via USB... but...
I found something to let me connect to ADB via WIFI so using it I got everything pushed and I am now S-off... so I am extremely pleased... that said i would "like" to be able to plug in and mount the sdcard/run adb but if I cant i can deal with my work arounds...

No USB Options ... none.

Help... picked up a G2 last month. Stock, factory reset. Everything was cool.
Did the OTA update to Lollipop.
Now I have No USB options.
No media sync (mtp), no camera option (ptp), whatever else is supposed to show up in the pull down shade that doesn't.
Nothing.
MTP drivers of all flavors fail to install.
There's no way for me to connect to my pc.
No way to tranfser files.
No way to root.
No way to try and flash a rom.
No way to brick my phone :/
Any thoughts on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

if nothing else helps
install es file manager and simple copy paste the whole dcim/pictures folder to pc over the wifi network... (just make sure that pc folder is visible on the network - make it shareable)
- i use this all the time for copying files from pc to my phone when i'm too lazy to sit by the computer
or you can use quickpic's integrated wifi transfer option which can transfer pictures to any other device that also has quickpic installed...
I have the same problem and i want to root the device but I can't do it without the usb. I tried to use various apk root apps but all fails. Any suggestions?

I had same issue after updating to lollipop through the lg software. I have uninstalled all the drivers related to LG and plugged in the phone and it started working.
I have deleted them by going to Device Manager, then from the top menu click on View then select Show hidden devices then expand Portable devices from the list and uninstall your LG phone from there. Try to do that while your phone is connected. Then once you have uninstalled it, reconnect your phone.
Also, have you tried connecting your phone to different PC?
Yes, i tried with various pc and various os such as linux. Nothing. There are not working also the usb otg memory.

Same problem here.. LG doesnt take care of such things.. no wonder Samsung is taking the market..
I just connected my AT&T v20 to my aliensware 15r2 laptop and was able to import my pics with no issues setting my phone to ptp. Then to access both the internal storage and sd card through file manager I set phone to mtp.
I did nothing special just plugged in phone to laptop and selected what setting on the phone. Oh and running win 10. So don't think its the phones software but maybe your computer missing certain drivers or something. So hope this helps

hmm. i still haven't been able to get it to work. might try using the LG PC suite pc app to connect over wifi
Anyone have issues after applying liquid spray for a screen protector? I just finished applying and now whenever I connect the phone LG V20 it still thinks its connected to usb. I restarted phone and it went into update firmware connection screen. I had to get into recovery and clear dalvik and cache and it rebooted and everything is working again. I transferred files from PC and again the same issue. Could it be liquid damage? Or is this something else? Thank you.
You'll need to turn on the Developer Option and then scroll down to Select USB Configuration > MTP > ok This is what I did to enable my desktop to read my LG V20 SD Card and memory.
Could it be a cable issue? I was warned once.
In fact, looks like nothing happens on my pc but I can browse the internal memory n sd card.
"Have you tried turning it off and on again?" - it crowd
Seriously That was the solution for me... (Oh, I miss that show so much )
i have connection problems myself but i was forced to do a hard reset after my touch screen failed and ehen ever i try to connect to pc i get device malfunctioned message and cant connect to pc and theres no was of changing to mtp or anything if i cant get intot he phone as far as i know if you have any ideas on pls let me know

SM Bus Controller failed to install Win7 x64

I'm trying to use LG PC Suite and LG Bridge on a laptop running Windows 7 x64 Pro. I have updated the chipset with the latest driver, but every time I try to install the LG drivers, the SM Bus Controller fails to install. The PC cannot see the device, even though I have switched USB mode to file transfer. I have a Mac as well, and the same thing happens there (not recognizing the device is connected via USB). Is the software just way out of date and not yet compatible with the V20, or is there a fix that needs to happen. I'm perfectly comfortable using the command line/terminal or hacking the registry, if that's what it takes...
Thanks to anyone that can help!
I did remove the SM Bus Controller from device manager and then re-installed the LG device driver. It did not attempt to reinstall SM Bus drivers, but instead installed MTP drivers successfully. I had high hopes after that, but it's still not working. Sigh.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Have you installed minimal adb\fastboot?
Frankly, I don't use Windows or Mac so I am next to no help there.
'Sudo pkg install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot' was all I've needed to do.
Is your usb a known good cord? Verify this first. Then, Windows device manager, plug in your phone, watch for something to show on device manager. Click on device, double check there that everything shows as working properly?
If phone is not showing up on a number of computers, make sure USB cable is good.

I have adb and fastboot both. I want to connect to the PC/Mac for purposes of synching/sharing music, photos, etc. I could use linux too, but I don't have an VM's or a box spun up with anything atm. Yes, the cord I'm using is a good cord. I can see the internal and SD card when I connect, just can't use the LG apps. Oddly enough, there wasn't anything showing with the yellow sign under Device Manager. I'm guessing it's just a compatibility issue and I should just forget about it and just push files to my device with adb. Oh well--I thought it was worth a shot.

It's cool, thanks anyway. Just trying to simplify things. Don't ask why I thought the OEM's software was gonna solve that, lol.
Well, tbf, even though I don't use it (simply because I dislike vendor lock in - owncloud or a sftp session is mostly hardware agnostic.) I do understand the idea that one should expect the **** that come on the phone to work properly. It *should* be a selling point - 'our apps work for their stated purpose!'
