I think (or hope) I have searched enough to ask this question..... (?)
I've asked in the noob question thread without any success.
My L720 with stock rooted 4.2.2 no longer shows any data activity indication (up & down arrows.)
All data connections work, just no activity arrows "light up." (Inactive "unlit" arrows and 3G or 4G symbol do show.)
I have rooted and removed bloat + add hotspot mod. That is about all.
I've done heavy flashing on past phones (mostly the S2 E4GT) abd have never run into anything like this.
Any ideas anyone?

HI ALL, Im pretty new here. after so many tries finally i was able to install cm7.1 on my defy. but im facing some issues. before the installation i forgot to take a back up of the existing ROM so if i have to go back to the previous ROM how to do that? and also there is no network coverage after the installation. please please anybody help!!!!!!
Have a vibrant myself but I'm helping a buddy get cm7 on his defy and after flashing didn't have a network signal. I looked at the cm7 install guide and it referenced a defy base band switcher app for better coverage. Had him try that and he got his data connection back. Might want to look into it or read the guide.

If your previous ROM was stock that came with your phone, flash the corresponding SBF file from the sticky on the Dev section to go back to stock. If it was some other custom ROM, wipe data/factory reset in CWM and flash the old ROM. Make backup of your apps using Titanium Backup if you want.
For CM7 network issues, choose the correct baseband from Defy Baseband Switcher. For India, pick anything that is 900/2100MHz...
Also, make sure you have read as many guides and First Posts on important threads as you can. Here is a collection of good threads you can read for these questions, and more that you might get later:

Hello! Noob here as well.
I installed CM7.1 stable on my Defy (running 2.2.2 foryo) 2 days ago.
All went well, except that network connection is lost after a couple of minutes after boot. Sometimes it takes an hour or two but I still end up with no connection.
I've googled everything about it in the last days. I played with the Baseband Switcher and although most options in the BB Switcher work right after a reboot, it still looses the signal after a couple of minutes.
One thing I noticed, when the signal is lost, trying to set the "Airplane mode" will fail. If trying to set Airplane ON - the notification icon will not replace the signal icon and will also be unable to set Airplane OFF (since it didn't finish turning ON).
I also noticed that if I force stop the "Dialer" system app, then the Airplane notification ico shows up, but still there's no way to turn it OFF (it's disabled in the menu). After a reboot Airplane can be set OFF and everything works for another small period of time (..until baseband crashes again?).
Hope it makes some sense. I'm quite sure this is not an operator issue or hardware related, since my Defy worked just fine before CM7.1
Also, I am located in Romania, operator is Orange.

I have the same issue, except that it is much rarer (ranging from every other day, to even a month between such incidents). It can also be triggered sometimes when I turn off Wi-Fi and the device tries to regain mobile data connection (not sure if it matters, but I set the network mode to 2G on my phone). The battery drain is increased if this occurs without the user noticing - the phone seems to search in vain for the signal.
Using the latest SEA baseband on M1 (Singapore).

I get this problem too. Happens every so often when I'm at work. I've always put it down to a bad signal where I work but as I always turn the wifi of before leaving home it could be down to that. If anyone has any solutions it would be great
Ok, a little update on this:
At the office now, further playing with the Baseband Switcher, I ended up selecting "Italia RT 2.51.1" which has the same 900/2100 freq that my operator requires and it seems to work. Even getting 3G.
If "2.51.1" is some sort of protocol version, then all the other options I've tried were either 4.x or 3.x or even 2.21.x ..and none of them worked for more then 30 minutes.
Also, not sure if signal strength has something to do with this because I did a test, going to the basement of my office in order to loose signal, then back up and it worked - got the signal back, without reboot or anything.
Also, I would really appreciate if someone could explain in a few words what those version numbers mean (ex: "Italia RT 2.51.1"), as I know nothing about gsm bands and protocols.
UPDATE: Back home, lost signal again, after a whole day without any problems. Funny.
UPDATE 2:
So after much google searching and trying literally every option in the Baseband Switcher, I switched my SIM card with a friend's SIM and guess what.. IT WORKED! Even more, when I inserted my original SIM into the other phone after a few minutes it lost signal, too! It was a faulty SIM, that has just started to "die".
Conclusion:
- Keep playing with that Baseband Switcher until you get something that works for you.
-Make sure your SIM is working properly in other phones, otherwise ask your operator to replace it.
Thanks and hope this helps.
ZeDevil did you try using other Basebands to see if you get better battery life ?

Not really. As long as you have a working Baseband selected (with correct frequencies) I don't think it matters.
But overall CM7.1 has better battery efficiency then stock ROMs, or at least that's what I felt.
update:
Well, I had a play with the baseband switcher, realising i was on 'international'. I switched to uk t-mobile and from there it seemed to work much better. A slight blip at work today (think it's a bit of a signal black-spot though) but restarted and it seems fine again. I've also just realised it's gone 37hrs since its last charge too
Strangely my other problem, the backlighting on the soft-keys not working, fixed itself at the same time. dunno if these two things are linked or not?
i use the CEE one.
Edit: Sorry I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Sorry about that.
Hello guys, =)
I currently have my SGS4 (GT-i9505) since release and haven't upgraded firmware since then (I was rooted). Everything worked fine until I noticed that when 4G became available in my area I didn't receive it. Then after a few google hits, it said I had to update so 4G would become active. Did that and flashed I9505XXUDMH8.
Everything went fine for one thing however. Immediately upon reboot my launcher (apex launcher) would force close. Then a message would show up telling me it has been forced closed due to suspicious behavior. Now, this wouldn't be much of a problem if it was just the launcher, but it happens to every damn app.
Anything that can get root access or can adjust system settings gets shut down right from the start. I've tried reflashing the firmware, resetting factory settings and I've searched a couple of hours on the web but I couldn't find anything helpful. It seems to be triggered by a new Samsung security feature (or perhaps even KNOX).
Is there any trick to get rid of this? Because I REALLY do not want Samsung telling me what I can and can not do with my phone. Otherwise I would get an iPhone. I really need to bypass this filthy mechanic one way or another (without removing 4G support) so that I can use backups without a problem.
Thanks in advance!
Shuji.
So I woke up today and restarted my phone (as usual), and upon reboot it would not connect to any data services. SignalCheck showed I was connected to 1X and 3G networks (I am in a 4G area) but Verizon data services were not available. The only recent change was I updated to MJE from stock rooted MJ7. Only mods I have are Native Tether (framework-res.apk) and Xposed for Notification Mod and Samsung Secure Lock Screen Widgets.
I tried:
1. Wipe - didn't work
2. Flashed Beans stock deodexed and CleanROM 1.5 - didn't work
3. ODIN back to MJ7 and factory restore - didn't work
4. ODIN MJ7 Radio - didn't work
Right now I am stuck in setup wizard because it can't activate the phone. It is clearly connected to a verizon tower but cannot access data services. Are there any other steps I should try? Really don't want a refurb as I got my screen protector on perfect for once and there are no defects on the display I can see of. And with my luck, once I start down this refurb train, I won't get a properly-working Note 3 (went GNex -> Razr Maxx -> Note 2 on a 20 unit train as all either had huge screen discoloring, were bent, improperly reassembled, broken radios, or just DOA) until they swap it for an iPhone or the Note 4 comes out. Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue about a week ago, woke up and couldn't get nothing. I even put my SIM into other phones and still nothing which led me to believe;
1. I didn't pay my bill
2 it was on Verizons end.
. Come to find out that Comcast had cut a fiber line one on of Verizons towers in town. Have you tried finding another tower outside the area ur currently at? Try ur SIM in another phone.
Take a sec and hit thanks if I helped or you're in a good mood!

Unfortunately the sim is working great in my ipad, so I guess it may be time to call.
Hello all!
I'm from Argentina. (Excuse my poor english)
I have a full stock S4 i9500, bought to Samsung (without any carrier logo, unlocked).
During christmans night i received a notification about a new update available, i just downloaded it and installed it. Phone is now on 4.3 (Knox and other stuff are now available).
Since that update, the mobile signal is working very bad.
Every 2 or 3 hours signals completly goes off.
If i restart the phone, or turn on/off airplane mode, signals come back.
If i just leave it, takes more than 1 hour to recover signal.
This is becoming very annoying, since i uses sms a lot with my girlfriend (she don't like smartphones) and also, im loosing a lot of calls during signals fails (when signal come back, i ussually receive a lost call message).
I searched forums for this same problem, but i just found people who had stock problems, and in my case, problem become with the new update.
I want to avoid full factory reset if it possible.
I can post any screenshot if needed!

Sorry, mods please close this post! Thanks
I'm having a problem with my N900W8 since doing the Kitkat upgrade.
On Jellybean, I can be in a building, unable to get LTE, but have strong 3G/HSPA+ connection and it works great.
Ever since upgrading to Kitkat though, while LTE continues to work great, if not faster in my speed tests, when on 3G/HSPA+, after a short while, the data connection seems to freeze. I'll see it drop from H+ to 3G in the menu bar, and just merely a flashing up arrow, and nothing else. It never seems to fix itself, and I just have to put the device to sleep by tapping the power button. Within a minute it regains a good data connection again for maybe another 2 minutes. This is constant.
I'm at a loss, it's a new phone and only had it for 2 months. It's not rooted or anything like that, just unlocked by the distributor, and on T-Mobile (if that matters).
It's getting annoying because it makes using my data connection completely unusable. Samsung techs were actually quite helpless, they wanted me to send in my phone, but it seems to be software related because it worked fine on Jelly bean. It literally happened RIGHT away after the kitkat upgrade.
Please someone help? I already have checked, double checked, triple checked the APN settings, even deleting them and starting over, and trying both fast and epc APN's on T-Mobile.
I reset the device back to factory, and all was well. And I noticed that it started happening again after running the speedtest.net app on the 3G.. It seems to start doing it again when I run that app, and when I "cleared" all the app cache, the problem seemed to go away. Not sure then what's going on there.
