I know I hear of Titanium Back up as being the best app to have on a rooted device but I don't know how to fully use it. I also don't know if it can restore every text message, sms AND MMS, which is kind of important to me.
I want to be able to switch roms and not have to worry about losing all my text messages. Is there a way to do this easily? I am willing to purchase an app if there is one that will fit these needs.
Also, if anyone can point me to where a guide is that will help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
Open tibu, hit menu, choose backup data to xml. I'm sure you can figure out the rest. This backs up sms, mms, and call logs.

Does this require paid version?
There's a simple app for this call SMS Backup & Restore, just take a backup before you wipe store it on your external card. Then re-install the app after and point it to the backup and it restores all your SMS messages.
Download this right off the Play store. I believe it's made by Ritesh Sahu.

I'm not sure on that one. I've had paid version for years now so it's just always been there. Download free version and give it a shot I guess..

I setup my phone with google voice voicemail but now i want to go back and use sprints default. How would i do that? Also, does anyone have the visual voicemail apk?
Thanks.
you tried uninstalling google voice app and it didn't work?
Log into the Google Voice page on a PC. There should be a deactivate link next to the phone listed.
You can also change your settings on the phone back to carrier and dial *730 to turn off the forwarder.

I had to dial *38. I did it last night and it worked. Go to google voice on your computer. Click settings. Click one of those tabs - the one displaying your phones. If it says "activate google voicemail on this phone", click it even if it is already activated. Go through the windows and when you get back to the setting screen, click deactivate. It will display a code. Punch it into your phone and you will hear two beeps. Done.
stock voicemail
i loaded a cm7 yesterday. all is fine but my voicemail. it's sms now. how do i go back to what stock was? it wants to send me text notifications.
I'd like to know as well. I've reinstalled the stock Voicemail app, but I need to figure out how to get it to register as the phones Voicemail handler.
If you're on AOSP, you need to restore data from a working VVM, like on a Sense ROM, with TB. JUST data. Then Reboot and it should provision. You can compose a VM to yourself to check it.
Don't need to TB. Search does wonders! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197274 Just follow the steps there and bam! Working VVM like stock sense on AOSP. Just gotta block the text number (9016) I believe to stop getting text messages for new vm.
---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 AM ----------
Only roms you need to TB is if you loading a sense 3.5 rom. Just make a TB backup of the VVM app+data from a working sense rom of your choosing, once in the 3.5 sense rom, restore app only, then restore data only and done.

have sense 3.5. very helpful thanks!
I've been using my backup root but it messes up sometimes with my messeges. It also takes forever. I do have about 10000 sms so does anyone know app that restores the sms quicker right now it takes about 20 minutes just to restore them..

I've been using SMS Backup by AnSoft, it took about 20 seconds to restore approximately 1500 text messages, it also makes a backup of your call history too.
have you tried titanium backup? i use it for everything, including SMS messages. once you restore, reboot and bam, it's all there. has never taken me 20 min to restore my whole backup (apps, settings, messages, etc).
I use and include in my ROM SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel. It backs up SMS messages and call logs to your gmail account at user set intervals. I have mine set to 1 minute after the SMS is received. It nice because you never have to remember to back up your messages. I believe it will restore MMS messages as well. I have titanium backup but I believe this is a much better solution because it is automatic and performs the update soon after the message is received. I don't have to think about going and backing them up everytime one is received like you would with titanium.

look for the green entries. it is the one that says
[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messages 1.00
I think. they show up after you reboot.
+1 titanium backup

Does titanium backup the mms that are in the text message? The backup software i'm using now does not.
I use SMS Backup and Restore. Great app, backups and restores fast but also saves all your texts as an .xml file which you can just go into the app and view it (say, for example, that you were looking for a certain text from a while back) without restoring it.

Not trying to flame anyone here, but why the hell would you need to backup 10000 text messages? Honestly, I don't see why anyone would need to back them up at all. The way I see it, they are old messages and I dont need them. I clear mine out almost every day.

Titanium backup is the choice for me. The only downfall I found is when I backup my system that is running a 4x5 Roise workplace to a 4x4 Rosie workplace. My apps still show up but in area where I can not reach them. Once I install a new 4x5 I am good to go!

I've used titanium backup since day one. It has never let me down. Just make sure you back up your messages before futzing with your phone.
I still can't figure out how to backup text in titanium?

I use Handcent for my messaging program. I paid the small fee for the annual premium service and my settings, SMS, and MMS all get backed up whenever I want to their online servers. I am constantly flashing different ROMS and trying new things with my EVO and have never had a problem restoring my info. You can even backup custom theming you do to your program and backup individual messages to a special "box" for quick retrieval. It's only $9.99 for a whole year.
And no, I don't work for Handcent just been a very happy customer for quite some time!
I'm getting no notification sound when receiving a text message. And I've checked every sound setting in setting and in the settings in the message app and at least 10-15 other "tricks" suggested in threads with similar problems.
And I've so far only found one solution; the master reset... But I've got a lot of settings I don't want to lose (and Titanium Backup does not do a good job of restoring them all).
Anyone?
Come on! Really? No one?

I'm back, and had success! Firstly mine changed when I tried go sms and did not like. After uninstall I was stuck with no sounds for a week. I solved mine by:
Added go sms back on phone including go sms emoj.
Went into apps, force closed go sms. Cleared data, then uninstaller. I repeated the same steps for go sms emoj as above.
After I did these steps my sms notification in stock sms program is back!!!
Hope this may be helpful?

I've noticed when trying to send pictures on the stock Samsung messages app the thumb nail for selected pictures doesn't seem to go away after sending them. Does anybody else have this issue?
