[Q] [I9505] No sound when receiving text message - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting no notification sound when receiving a text message. And I've checked every sound setting in setting and in the settings in the message app and at least 10-15 other "tricks" suggested in threads with similar problems.
And I've so far only found one solution; the master reset... But I've got a lot of settings I don't want to lose (and Titanium Backup does not do a good job of restoring them all).
Anyone?

Come on! Really? No one?
*bump*
Swyped on my Galaxy S IV LTE

Your not alone buddy, I have same issue and trying to resolve without reset. Will update if I solve it

I'm back, and had success! Firstly mine changed when I tried go sms and did not like. After uninstall I was stuck with no sounds for a week. I solved mine by:
Added go sms back on phone including go sms emoj.
Went into apps, force closed go sms. Cleared data, then uninstaller. I repeated the same steps for go sms emoj as above.
After I did these steps my sms notification in stock sms program is back!!!
Hope this may be helpful?

Nexus 4 can't send MMS after updating to 4.2.1

After I update my Nexus 4 to Android 4.2.1, I can't send MMS.
After I click the send, there is a toast notification told me the service not available or balabala.
I am wondering whether you have the same problem for your Nexus 4 after updating to Android 4.2.1?
Thanks.

I was having the same problem but was able to resolve it. Are you using the stock messaging app or 3rd party? Any 3rd party app I was using (GOSMS, Handcent, ChompsSMS) would not send mms but then I tried it through the stock and it worked perfectly. Something happens when trying to send through 3rd party app where it decides not to work. Not sure why.

That's for stock MMS. But I after reboot the phone it seems good, but when the receiver received the photo, it was distorted.
If I use whatsapp, it worked well.
Not sure what happend for Android 4.2.1
Looks like 3rd party text apps like GoSms have to recode mms for 4.2.1. I have the same issues.
Also on GoSms "private box" doesn't work anymore.

I am having some weird intermittent MMS issues as well - stock 4.2.1 N4. When I attempt to send a pic, it perpetually says 'sending', but seemingly never gets sent. I am also not receiving most MMS pics from others, from what I can tell? Solution anyone?!?

Has anyone been able to fix this? I'm completely unable to send MMS right now. It isn't working through the stock app, I've changed the APN setting to multiple different configurations I found, pulled and put in the SIM card, no cigar. This is driving me mad. I'm on T-Mobile if that's of any assistance.
is this still an issue with the latest update? also who has group mms checked?
It's the same for me on my GNEX with GOSMS - I cannot send or receive MMS. I'll try stock sms and report back.

It's working fine on stock messaging app - I have written to the devs and suggest you all do the same!
Can not receive or send MMS on at&t media net plan. Also can not do group messaging but I'm still researching to see if that is a normal problem with Android.

update - for whatever reason i had to create two different APNs for MMS and Internet and this allowed me to get group messaging and picture messages. let me know if there are other ATT people on MEdiaNet who need assistance in this.
Same here with 4.2.1 and Swisscom provider... :crying:
I had the MMS issue where it would say "sending" and remain in that state. I also could not receive MMS messages. Even on sick messaging. I called AT&T last night and they had to put my new IMEI number in their system. I had to turn off my phone while they sent a refresh OTA. Turned out back on and all good.

Finally it works! The problem was a entry that cm10 has added to the gprs settings APN-TYPE default, supl. I deleted ",supl" and voilĂ , it works perfect (entry came back but since then it works). i like my phone! :good:
What exactly does the "supl" mean anyway in that setting?
i can't seem to send any picture messages, im on rogers , it just 'hang's at sending...
I'm rooted and on stock ROM, it usually sends MMS while on 3g but on wifi it doesn't, it's just stuck on sending... Help?

This whole cant send on wifi thing is new to me. It shouldnt matter if youre on wifi or not. It still uses the cell tower to send/retrieve MMS.
same here, but a buy newer fone
I have found that on att I can only use stock app to send Mms. Hopefully a third party one will work soon.

this should fix your issues
I like many of you had this very same issue. Until fixing it tonight and testing I thought I had the elite of apn's my data went from .02 Mbps to 10mbps when I removed the WAP.Cingular stock APN. And replaced it with what users on here were using and it was a insane difference. However I never did have MMS working so I was searching all over and a post on reddit had linked my to this site on another sub forum. So I tried it and bam my MMS is working. Now if there was a way to fix the MMS slideshow thing without adding an app let me know
Here's the link to fix your issues guys:

hope you find this helpful as I did.

[Q] Best way to restore sms/mms and call logs

I know I hear of Titanium Back up as being the best app to have on a rooted device but I don't know how to fully use it. I also don't know if it can restore every text message, sms AND MMS, which is kind of important to me.
I want to be able to switch roms and not have to worry about losing all my text messages. Is there a way to do this easily? I am willing to purchase an app if there is one that will fit these needs.
Also, if anyone can point me to where a guide is that will help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
Open tibu, hit menu, choose backup data to xml. I'm sure you can figure out the rest. This backs up sms, mms, and call logs.

Does this require paid version?
There's a simple app for this call SMS Backup & Restore, just take a backup before you wipe store it on your external card. Then re-install the app after and point it to the backup and it restores all your SMS messages.
Download this right off the Play store. I believe it's made by Ritesh Sahu.

[Q] HELP! Cant reply to text on moto 360. Stock messaging app

using tmobile note 4 stock messaging app. i receive text and mms on my moto360 fine. i swipe left to reply. when i select reply it turns to a green check mark and disappears instead of opening google now. i look on my phone and it appears the phone saves a blank draft in the message thread. reply works fine with note 3 and hangouts on note 4. im just not a fan of hangouts. any help or suggestions would be great. ive tried like 5 other messaging apps but most dont have mms support(shows received photo on watch). the stock messaging app has that mms support but i cant reply.

MMS thumbnail glitch in Samsung Messages app

I've noticed when trying to send pictures on the stock Samsung messages app the thumb nail for selected pictures doesn't seem to go away after sending them. Does anybody else have this issue?

Did you try to toggle it from> Settings/Lock screen and Security>Notifications and Lock Screen.
Same thing is happening to me. Very annoying! I even turned off ALL notifications just to test and the screen still turns on. Got to be a vzw message app bug.

I went back to stock Samsung message app and the same thing happens! Wtf?
Same to me, until this morning no problems, now it started to turn on the screen when a text message arrives. How can i solve?
At least with the Samsung SMS app, you cannot disable screen turning on when receiving a SMS. I assume this is also true for other SMS apps. The only solution is an alternative SMS app, like the Messenger app from Google, or Textra.
No idea. Can't fix mine. All I want is for the led and sound to go off. Not the entire screen.
