[Q] NFC turning off randomly - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

NFC is turning off randomly on my S5. At first I thought I had turned it off by mistake but it is repeatedly turning off and I am now positive I am not turning it off by mistake. I don't use Power Saving Mode and my phone is always has 50% of more battery. Is anyone else facing this problem?

I just tested this, it is from TURNING YOUR PHONE ON AND OFF. If you turn on s beam, then turn the device off, when you turn it back on the s beam will in fact be OFF. Try this, may be helpful.

By turning off, did you mean a full power down? I did not power down the phone. And I don't use S Beam. The native NFC itself is turning off once in a while, without any user intervention. This is breaking some of my automated NFC taksks .. I keep hitting my programmed tags and nothing happens, and that is when I realize NFC had turned off.

Any one else facing this issue? NFC is turning off randomly on my Galaxy S5. I don't use any power saving features. I have not restarted my phone.

The issue for me, at least, is not tied to turning the phone off and on. I do notice the NFC turning off whenever I use the camera from the lock screen. Perhaps as a security feature, the phone turns off NFC if you wake the phone only in the lock screen camera (normally NFC turns on when the phone wakes), but never reactivates it.

My NFC turns off randomly as well, with no consistent cause and effect.

I tested on a friend's s5, has the same pattern. Turn NFC on, as soon as I activate camera from the lock screen, the NFC will turn off and stay off.

Did anyone ever resolve this issue?
I see the same behaviour, NFC switches itself off when i use the lock screen camera for definite.
It may also switch off occasionally after a reboot

screen turning on

Hi All,
I have been having trouble with the phone.
The screen has been turning on by itself and not turning off. The screen will not turn off until i hit the power button. It will not turn off until the phone is out of battery.
Is anyone else having this problem?
thanks!
Want to bump this up ... having the same issue. I've uninstalled nearly every app (at least the ones I'd think would be problematic) and it's still happening. I've downloaded Spare Parts today to see if I could figure it out but I don't have enough data yet.
Anyone else have this issue? Even when I press the lock button, I sometimes need to press it multiple times to get the screen to turn off.
I too am having this problem and boy does it suck battery lol

Do you guys have power saving mode enabled or disabled? Just curious, since that's one of the only things (in addition to message notifications) that affects the screen.
can it have anything to do with automatic updates?
i never had this issue. before or after root. i just rooted two days ago
I had this problem before and after root. I also did a factory reset and I thought it was fixed ... but now it's doing it again.
Happens w/ Power Saving mode enabled and disabled.
I've figured out a semi-solution to this which seems to be working:
With Advanced Task Killer:
Enable Auto Kill Frequencey "When screen off"
Set Auto Kill Level to "Aggressive"
Set Security Level to "Medium"
Don't forget to put any apps you don't want killed in the ignore list (like WidgetLocker, your music player, etc.)
This seems to keep the screen locked for me ... but I still can't figure out what app/process is the culprit in waking the screen when it goes to sleep.

Always-on OK Google not always turning on the screen

Always-on OK Google is awesome, but for some reason it only turns on the screen about half the time for me.
When it doesn't turn the screen on, it still listens and reacts to commands though, but without the screen on I can't see what it's doing so I still have to manually press the power button to turn on the screen to see the results, effectively defeating the purpose of having it always on (for hands-free operations).
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Is there a solution?
Did you turn on Smart lock for OK google?

I did turn on Smart Lock, with trusted devices, trusted places, trusted face and trusted voice enabled.
Yeah I see it... it seems a little buggy, but for me it *always* comes on if it is locked. Not so much when it is unlocked (just sleeping).
I set the screen to lock 5 seconds after screen sleeps.

Thanks for the confirmation. Come to think of it I only started to notice this issue after I set the screen to lock 5 minutes after the screen sleeps. I'm now setting it to 1 minute instead to get a better compromise between OK-Google-ability and convenience of not having to unlock while I use the phone frequently.
Hopefully Google will come around to fix this obvious bug in the not-too-distant future too.

Seems to help. But still inconsistent.

[Solved] Fingerprint scanner vibrates after screen goes off

Every time I turn the screen off, the phone vibrates 2 times with about 5 seconds delay. I have tracked this vibration down to fingerprint scanner. Its seems to be an indication of it going to sleep. When you turn the screen off, you can place your finger on the scanner and it will wake the screen up. This function is active for few seconds, and then the scanner goes to sleep (signalized by the vibration).
Anyone know how to turn this notification off? Or even better, how to disable this whole function entirely so the scanner sleeps immediately after screen goes off?
Additional information
the Vibration occurs even if you turn the screen on after turning it off but before the vibration (seems irregular though)
the time of the vibration changes with the lock time setting
turning off notification vibrations entirely helps, but I dont want to do that
not using the fingerprint unlock helps too, but I would prefer to keep using it

Hey. My g928c is runnin on custom rom/kernel. Not sure that could be the same or not but when I turn off the screen, it doesnt wake without pressing home or power button. Maybe you use easyHome app or kind of app which uses fingerprint sensor. My device doesnt wake up after turned the screen off and placing a finger on the scanner or etc. As I remember, easyHome app has got that wake up option but in one of older versions. I hope you solve it..
Oh, I was sure this behavior was caused by the sensor, but now that I actually switched back default locker, it doesnt do it. So the issue is entirely in the Hi Locker I am using. I should have checked that in the first place. So thank you. Now my question changes. Are there any more locker options that use fingerprint scanners other than the default and hi locker?

Glad to know you solved it. Im using default lockscreen and never wondered any others lol. Maybe you try{if didnt} Go launcher's go locker etc. Dont know anything more in this case sorry, good luck.
I tried few other alternatives and honestly they were way too cumbersome and bloated. For now I revoked Hi Locker's permission to make notifications, which got rid of the vibration. I hope nothing broke with this modification. Thanks for getting me on track.

Screen goes to sleep during hands free calls

I have a problem with my unrooted Marshamallow X Force in that when I am in a call on the speakerphone/hands free the screen will go to sleep after a moment and I cannot wake it up other than by pressing the power button (No sensor detection or screen swipe). Is there any way to either disable the sleep mode during hands free calls or a way to get the screen to come back on without having to press the power button?
EDIT: OK I've found the attentive display thing but if I am looking slightly away like looking at my computer display it loses my face and sometimes I wander around during a call. I will see how it goes.
EDIT:2 Bah! It's not helping. Anyone got any ideas?
+1 It happened To me while on bluetooth headset, very annoyed.

There is no way to change this behavior that I know of. I also find it annoying.

On another hand, behavior is logical. To save battery, screen goes off. The same is with normal calls. Only problem is that attentive display/proximity sensor is not turning it on.
Try to suggest Moto on official forum or under Moto app on market to implement that.

Nexus Screen turns off and refusing to turn back on.

Hey everyone,
I got a nexus 2 days ago and I love the phone! But theres this annoying problem when the screen is off. When I come to turn it on by the power button it wont turn on at all I know the phone is running but whenever i press the button to turn the screen on it wont come on at all I have to keep pressing the power button numerous of times to get it working and I can feel the phone vibrating when i keep pressing the power button so I obviously know that the phone is working not shut down. Is there anyway to fix that because its quite annoying I got the phone just recently and there hasn't been any problems with it everything works great its just THAT problem I want to resolve.
Oh yeah this issue only occurs at random moments.
Thanks!
Try setting the fingerprint screen lock and see if scanning your fingerprint turns on the screen as a by pass. Not sure what could cause such issue hopefully just some faulty software.

It turns out it was a display problem. I returned the device back to the people who i bought it from and waiting to get a replacement.
