I've a serious problem.
I can't recive push notifications (whatsapp, messenger etc.)
Only if i open the app.
I had the same problem a few months ago but the problem was greenify Now it's disabled but the notifications don't arrive.
Firstly double check the settings from inside the app. Then check app settings from "app info"(tap and hold on app in recents or app drawer or alternatively go to settings-> general-> Application Manager. Also check Xprivacy(or any other similar apps I.E App Ops), if you have that installed.
One thing I've also noticed, since KK, Sync must be enabled for some network using apps to push notifications. So also try enabling Sync and check that "Restrict Background Data" is not enabled in Data Usage/(menu key) advanced settings. This last point is especially important for use on mobile data.
Here's a few apps that may help if the above doesn't resolve your problem.

Why when I switch my phone on into Android, loads(about 15) apps are running in Advanced App Killer, such as Myspace, Mail etc, things i've not yet touched on my phone. I close them, but after a few hours i check what apps are running and random apps i've not opened(nor appear on screen) are showing?
Anyone else have this?
I think your apps are opening because you have auto data sync turned on. If you turn off sync of these accounts (mail, myspace) they probably won't be active.

oh thank you, stupid question but where do i find the setting to switch auto sync off?
*****More Info*****
Found it, was in an obvious Accounts & Sync menu, man i feel stupid lol, thanks
From the home screen, puss the menu then settings, go to accounts and sync. Disable auto sync and especially background data. You will definitely notice less apps opening up, but you will have to enable it again if you want to do certain things. I.e. market, gmail etc...

The problem with turning off Background data and Auto-sync is you will lose other useful features, e.g. GMail notification, weather updates, Market app (requires Background data) etc.
I use an app called "Startup Auditor" which allows you to manually turn off the programs you don't want to run upon startup, and additionally, auto-run after startup.
Hope this helps.

Seem to have narrowed this problem down to power saving mode. At times Gmail seems to stop sending push notifications of new emails in the backgroind and Facebook will not update the home feed at all when opening it and forcing refresh (just says can't connect right now). This is all temporarily fixed by disconnecting then reconnect the data connection... Very annoying, anyone else have this issue? I know power saving mode is supposed to turn off background data but when the app is in the foreground it should be useable lol...

I am having the exact same issue, went to the carrier and they blamed Samsung. We uninstalled Gmail, reinstalled, updated it and then reconfigured my email accounts still nothing. It is doing the same for a regular email account and Facebook. You have to kill/close all apps and restart gmail and FB to get messages to refresh.
Quicker workaround is to have the app (either fb/Gmail) open and disable then re-enable your internet connection.
You'll soon notice it starts affecting other apps as well.
We really shouldn't need to be doing this for a phone this expensive. Will try contacting Samsung
It must be a software issue with power save mode messing up the apps connection to data. I'm just surprised no one else is having the same issue
I am also having this issue with Facebook, Messanger and other apps just hanging with no connection! Seems to be related to power save mode which blocks background data.
On my htc one m8, I had problems with gmail not getting push notifications only after upgrading to marshmallow. Switched to the outlook app and didn't have that problem. I'm doing the same thing on my s7. Seems like some apps are "dozed" more aggressively than others in marshmallow...

Power saving mode in marshmallow for Samsung devices disables background data, if you long press the power save button it shows that it does so, you need to have power save disabled to sync stuff.

Not just talking about syncing I'm talking about opening an app (e.g. Facebook) in the foreground and it no longer functions because it somehow lost connection to data. Manually refreshing your timeline is not considered background data or syncing
I had this issue and I called up SAMSUNG+ Exclusive support and they were able to help me with steps to get my facebook App works in powersaving mode. All you have to do is Setting---> Application--> Application Manager --> select Facebook--->select Storage --> press Clear Cache.
This solved my issue in my Verizon s7 edge.

Doesn't seem to have done anything for me
Dear all,
I have been realized some notifications comes first when I open screen. It includes gmail push emails and my site live chat app.
I think somethings about the sleep policy is wrong.
How can I fix this problem.

Check your battery optimization settings. Some apps don't send notifications when your phone dozes. If you use Greenify and aggressive doze, you can whitelist apps from within the Greenify app. Otherwise it should be available in the "More" menu in the battery stats.
Hi,
The notification for outlook doesnt pop. If i keep the app active , the notification works. But in background i get no notification
I tried following , but nothing works.
Lock outlook app in recents
Disabled smart power saver-> and enabled Allow background running
I guess app is being killed by coloros
Do you guys have same issue? Any solution?

Do you keep auto sync on all the time ? If so, it seems Outlook has rather weird behaviour. While gmail is responsive to push e-mail, to which your badge will appear accordingly. Outlook on the other hand will show the badge only if you refresh inbox manually (swipe/ pull down inbox). I'll comeback to you when I come up with solution.
Edit :
Try the following,
1. Make sure auto sync turned on
2. Go to Outlook setting (within the app)
3. On notifications, select "All mail"
4. Badge count, select "All"
5. Hope it works

Thanks
Notification works now :victory: Below are the steps
I have removed the outlook account and added again.
Disabled smart power saver-> and enabled Allow background running for outlook
On notifications, select "All mail"
Badge count, select "All"
One strange thing is the outlook [exchange] account isn't appearing in "account and sync" settings
1. Go to app info( by longpressing on app or by going via setting)
2. Now go to power saver option
3. Allow running in background
Done you will get notification for all the app

Below is partial solution. After below steps you have to launch the affected app frequently [for me weekly once]. I dont know any other way.
1. Disable smart power saver in settings->battery .
2.Go to custom power consumption protection->choose app->allow background running.
But the apps like gmail whatsapp doesnt have this issue. can Somebody explain??????
Regards

Phone screen just flickers on and off when I get FB notifications. Seems like a glitch.
When this happens, is the phone in vibration mode? Other possibility is that you may have set a screen passcode recently and in the process also enabled hide sensitive notifications and it is possible that it may be interfering for phone to wake up on certain notifications. Are the FB messages from messenger present when you do wake the screen or do they show up right after you wake up the screen? You may have changed the phone sync settings or if you have enabled power saving mode, phone may not be checking for notifications from certain apps or in intervals or both, or if you or another app have disabled facebook messenger from syncing or changed background data settings (for example datally is an app from google helps save data if you don't have unlimited plan but in the process it disables most apps from connecting to internet by default).
I would suggest go in settings, then apps, then tap on three dots on top right, enable 'show system apps', then look for any apps related to facebook, click on each one go to 'storage' then 'clear data'. Make sure you do this for all of them before you go back into FB or messenger. You will have to log in FB again and it is quite possible that this will fix the issue if settings were the cause. (Edit: Try uninstall and reinstall the app). If it doesn't work, and you have checked through all the possibilities above, you may have to do a factory reset, setup the phone again and reinstall FB and Messenger app first then install a few apps at a time to try and catch any apps that might be responsible. One last possibility that i can think of is that it is also possible a recent update to the app by FB may have caused this bug instead of you or your phone.

That's an interesting point you make, because the phone is doing just that - The phone isn't actually vibrating until I hit the screen and wake it. So they're essentially showing up right after I wake the screen. This is despite the fact that the message was sent minutes beforehand, so it would've been received by all accounts. Appreciate the help!

Very likely you have the Battery saver feature turned on. When it is on, among other things, the background activity and data of apps get restricted. I am very sure that this is the cause for the issue you are having. You can either turn off Battery saver mode or add FB Messenger to the Power saving exclusions list to get your FB push notifications back.
Appreciate all the help man!
Great thank you!
