Just wondering if anyone has figured out how to root the S4 without tripping the flash counter? I know that thier is trianlge away but that still doesnt let you use the allshare cast dongle.
Wrong section. And non that I know of.

Are you sure. Did you click the box to disable root for a few minutes on boot in triangle away, so it has Official Device Status?

Have you seen this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291827
This was tested on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577273 this kitkat build, but should work on them all.
You just edit what isis looks at in the build.prop and hide root which is suprisingly simple...
First you need to hide root, using rootcloak on xposed framework
Get xposed framework HERE
Install it then download rootcloak from the download section of the installer
Open rootcloak and hit add/remove apps, then hit the plus button in the top right corner and add isis
In xposed installer app select modules then make sure rootcloak is checked
Next you edit build.prop,
Open up /system/build.prop with a text editor and change these lines:
ro.build.id=KOT49H
to
ro.build.id=JSS15J
ro.build.version.release=4.4.2
to
ro.build.version.release=4.3
Only the above needs to be changed for Official AT&T roms
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-N9005 (or whatever model it says)
to:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-N900A
ro.product.name=hlte
ro.product.device=hlte (or whatever yours says)
to:
ro.product.name=hlteuc
ro.product.device=hlteatt
ro.build.product=hlte (or whatever yours says)
to:
ro.build.product=hlteatt
The values in build.prop may be different for your rom, but ro.build. whatever will be the same on all.
Then reboot and sign in. ISIS force closed once but hasn't done it again. After you get it working you can change your build.prop back if you need to.
Hopefully it works for everyone.

I see your sig says SM-N9005, thats in your build.prop and needs to be changed as well. I did this on the rom i use which is the att version, i'll amend the op.
Look for these lines in build.prop:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-N9005 (or whatever model it says)
Needs to be:
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-N900A
ro.product.name=hlte
ro.product.device=hlte (again whatever yours says)
Change to:
ro.product.name=hlteuc
ro.product.device=hlteatt
ro.build.product=hlte
Change to:
ro.build.product=hlteatt
That should fix it,please post here if it works to confirm. Thanks
On XNote 7 changed every line and the app downloads and installs fine but hangs on loading screen. Have to wait/report/close it.
Fiexd
Try knoxraid rom he fix everything:good:
did what you said on my og pro on att and still cant get it installed. doesnt show in the app store and restoring the backup i have doesnt work either. after making these changes is it supposed to show up in the app store and let you install?
Weird. If you do this and try the Easter Egg, you get what is attached instead.

Actually you do. You get $50 for adding a card to isis then once you sign up for serve mobile wallet they give you $25 once you connect it to isis. Total of $75 and you also get $1 cash back up to $50 per month on every dollar purchase so yes its worth it to me that is

Awesome! Glad to hear that it worked for you.
Sofar I've far I have tested the modded APK on ;
AT&T Galaxy S4 on both Android 4.4.4 and 5.0
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Android 5.0
At&T Samsung Galaxy S5 on 4.4.2
AT&T Note 3 here and i can say it works and is much better than the last workaround i tried. Basically after using the tether I had to restart the phone to reenable wifi. :laugh:
Edit: Spoke too soon. When I turn off the hotspot wifi comes back on and connects. However, the occasional web page will refuse to load. Will only load 3/4 of the way unless I leave it for like 2 minutes. Pages with embedded video don't load within that time period at all. But youtube embeds work as does the app. Restarting the phone fixes everything.
At least it is progress in my case! Using an app before would cause wifi to show as toggeled on, but refused to connect or turn off.
Hello guys I'm new to the android devices I tried to install this apk file but it just tells me that it is not installed is their another app that I need to get this to work I just rooted my note 3 yesterday and upgraded to the lollipop thanks in advance

Perhaps someone more experienced could walk me through the apk change or point me to a "____ for Idiots" type tutorial.

Great thanks cgm8.
I spent almost 2 hrs based on OPs steps but it kept saying "TetheringProvision.apk failed" or something after each reboot and then I almost gave up.
Luckily I saw your post that we should delete the ARM folder so I thought of giving it a last try...just in case you know.
And BOOM... after deleting the ARM folder and rebooting again, no error and then when I went to settings to enable HotSpot, it enabled flawless...lol
OP, can you pls add this simple step i.e. delete TetheringProvision/ARM folder before rebooting so everyone gets 100% success in this...???
Anyway, thanks a lot OP for this or else nothing else matters...
Will Att still see you tethering without the correct plan?

2. Flashed "xposed-sdk21-arm-20150430-arter97-V3.zip" via softstrap recovery (Note 3 at&t only)
3. Rebooted and Installed "com.dym.motoxtether_v5_aa815c.apk".
4. Open Xposed Installer -> Modules -> Check X Tether Module and Reboot Phone.
5. Done !! Tethering is Working Now.
This Process has been tested on Note 3 AT&T Running on Lollipop 5.0 Stock.
All files attached here and taken from xda.
Thank you. The tether apk worked fine from the first post. And the xposed worked from the post above. I now believe my phone is as good as it can get while locked.

Hello all, i have a Verizon note 3 model sm-n900v, im running lollipop v5.0 stock ROM from Verizon update, i have a few questions that i need help with
1. i need root access to use some apps that require root, i know there is no working root method for the v5.0 update right now, i don't care about the Knox counter if i trip it or not, i just want root access,
2. is there any way to flash a rom that has root access ? if so whats a good rom to try ?
3. i want to be able to use my note 3 on straight talk service, i looked at the APN settings and its greyed out, so i cant add any APN's to the list, can this be done with a new rom?
4. how can i tell if my note 3 is locked ? my wife has a galaxy s5 through a different carrier named Appalachian Wireless and i took her sim card out and put it in my phone and made a call to our home phone and
her number was shown on the caller id, so i know i can use sim cards from that company, but what about straight talk?
any help with these questions would be great, thanks in advance

Step 0. Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
And once installed search for "tether" and disable "tetheringprovision"
Step 1.You don't need this but it's safer to have it.
Download Foxfi http://foxfi.com and the license and once have all of that turn on hide tether usage.
(Once you get your tether going this will activate to hide your tether from the network providers)
Step 2. You don't need Internet but you need something that will showup as a wifi network such as a PS4 , Direct TV receiver, chromecast, a printer and more. Once you have these plugged in and running go to step 3.
Step 3. Go to your wifi enabler on phone and turn on the toggle for it to scan for wifi.
Step 4.Locate one wifi signal and press connect if ask for a password do a random pass and press connect
(Like on the PS4 signal it will popup saying wrong password and that's fine)
Step 5.Now that you set that random password it will try to connect as soon as you turn wifi on again so turn off wifi now and follow next step.
Step 6.Go into your mobile hotspot app and setup the name and password if so desire.
Now when ready toggle wifi direct to on and then quickly go up and toggle wifi on and keep pressing toggle hotspot on. And if done right it will come on.
Step 7.Enjoy mobile data hotspot! !
Don't turn off the wifi or wifi sharing or else it turns off the hotspot too… which im trying to find a work around for it…
Id be grateful if others could help research too.
Edit
Ive tried everything that I could think of to make a fake wifi signal but it all needs root which we don't have so.. O well then I'm still happy it works even though it is tedious.
Edit 2
A new find(I tested this and didnt work for me)
jtracker said:

Edit 3
Okay here's another way to get it to work but you need two phones and the one you use for this must have internet.
Okay so now I finally figured out how this works so here what you do:
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kha.prog.mikrotik
1.To the phone you aren't using (turning this on the phone you're not using creates a wifi signal to the phone you want the hotspot app to work on)
2.Go on the phone now that you want to use the hotspot with and turn on wifi and search for the wifi signal that the phone used to create the signal.
3.type in a WRONG password and connect to it. (It will say wrong password which is fine now just click ok or cancel)
4.Turn off wifi and go to your hotspot app and turn on wifi sharing and quickly turn on wifi then start pressing the hotspot toggle until it connects.
5.Now you have the hotspot app on so you can turn the netshare off on the other phone and you should also be able to turn off wifi and wifi sharing and still have hotspot on!!

I did notice it does change color when you change live wallpapers, I switched to the orange/purple live wallpapers and it switched the edge lighting to orange, it was blue with the blue live wallpaper.

Another thing you can do is flash your phone with the Canadian firmware. I just did that and it removed all the att bloat and wifi tethering works with no modifications plus you have a bloat free rom. Lemme tell you, this is how the phone should have came, smooth buttery and no restrictions on basic functions.

Hello,
You have to use a modified version of Odin, it's called princecomsy version and that can be found with a quick Google search or a search on here. Download it and install it with admin rights.
You download the firmware which will be in a zip file. Creat a new folder and move zip to folder and extract the zip. Once extracted you will see 5 files. AP, BL, CP, CSC and CSC home. CSC file will wipe your phones data, if you use the HOME CSC you will retain your data but it's also considered a dirty flash, wiping everything and clean flash is always best.
Double click Odin to open it, you will see 4 slots with the same letters as the firmware you just extracted. Put each file in it's matching slot. The AP file takes a while to confirm once you put it in the slot so be patient.
Put your phone in download mode and then plug it into the computer with your USB cable. You will see device added and blue color rectangle with a port #, that means Odin is connected to your phone. Hit the start button and sit back, it takes a while to flash. Once it's done it will say pass and your phone will re boot to recovery then boot normally, first boot can take up to 5 mins (which seems like an eternity lol). Set your phone up and enjoy!

Thank you for the instruction, I will try to flash it tonight. But I have two more question:
First one is: which carrier's firmware I should use? I found the G955W firmware at https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/SM-G955W/, which one are you using?
Second question is: Is there any functional difference between this two firmware? will I able to go back to AT&T firmware if something goes wrong?
Again, thank you for your help:good::good::good:
You want the XAC firmware. You should download it from update.com as they're DL speeds are way faster than sammobile.
Yes you will be able to go back to ATT firmware. Only thing I've noticed is no video calling, volte and that's about it. You can get those things working but let's just get the firmware flashed for now :good:

I didn't notice the download speed...both are pretty slow, but I think I should be able to finish the download in one hour.
Edit...you are saying updato.com and I thought it's samsung-updates.com, I can download from updato.com with full speed! which only took me 7 mins.
Samsung pay problem
I've been running the Canadian rom on a at t 8+ it has been flawless. I'm trying to set up my gear s3 and Samsung pay. I'm getting a message unable to continue does not support your version on gear. It's a s3 and did work before I went Canadian. Any suggestions? I like the caller I'd but should I flash the us rom?
Thanks

I have no idea how to help because I didn't ever flash it because I didn't see that much that I would favor in, but maybe someone will be able to help you.

Have you tried clearing the app data and reinstalling the latest version? Or you could also uninstall the app, reboot and reinstall latest version.
XAC and XAA are pretty similar if ya ask me, they both run smooth, fast and battery life is great!

Does the Canadian fw have mobile hotspot? The hotspot that lets you draw off your regular data plan instead of the Wi-Fi hotspot that requires you to have home Wi-Fi network?
This stopped working from me since the last ATT update. Can someone confirm if this is still working?

I flashed the TMO firmware on my AT&T S8+. Then I used BK Disabler Pro and disabled all bloat plus com.qualcom.qti.tetherservice and Tethering.Automation. i then downloaded Nova Launcher and made sure enhanced LTE services was enabled and HD Voice Settings were enabled. Running AT&T SIM with unlimited plan , tethering working just fine but I had to manually ADB the toggle into quick settings as well as the MobileData toggle. I can't find Wifi calling anywhere but I am sure I can use Google Dialer/Voice to place calls over data. I have DirectTV and was able to watch Live TV in full HD no issue. I am pretty sure that there is no tethering provision from AT&T so with the exception of V4A, I pretty much have everything I want without root. Battery charges to 100% and lasts way longer than it did on SAMPWND with root charging to 80%. Anyway, just my experience.
My firmware version is G955WVLU2AQK7 which I got from Sammobile.
I just turned off Mobile Data and placed a call with Google Hangouts Dialer and another with Facebook Messenger over Wifi and both worked beautifully.
