Just wondering if anyone has figured out how to root the S4 without tripping the flash counter? I know that thier is trianlge away but that still doesnt let you use the allshare cast dongle.

Are you sure. Did you click the box to disable root for a few minutes on boot in triangle away, so it has Official Device Status?

New Note 3

I just got my Note 3 and the first thing I did was root it. The problem is that I forgot to perform a software update. Now when I try to update the software, I get the message that I can't update because my phone is modified. Is there a way to download and manually install the latest software update?
This should be in Q&A....mods will either delete it or move it for you.
To answer you...depending on your region the stock firmware may or may not be available for you to odin back to stock.

use triangle away to restore official status. Then update and reroot (from what i heared, ony the international N3 had a firmware update) Usually, if there was one for you, as soon as you would have connected to the internet it would have told you, unless you rooted without first connecting the phone to the internet

You can use kies to restore your phone back to stock. It will change your phone back to original status, without root. However there's nothing you can do on your knox warranty.

Thanks, guys. The phone is great the way it is, and I refuse to give up root if I can help it. I have faith in the devs here to overcome all issues!!

BEWARE!!!

Rooting nukes the ability to use the all-cast dongle for screen mirroring. Wanam and Synscope hacks will not fix it. Does anyone know of a work around?

Good to know. This isn't the only problem our root method causes, others experience boot loops.
Dammit we need a proper KNOX 0x0 root method ASAP.

Which Root Method is causing the issues?
@redstar299
this is wrong. I own a rooted P605 with urdlv rooting, knox not tripped and my Allcast Share dongle works despite system status Custom.

CF-Auto Root Port.
I remember a couple of people mention boot loops in the official thread. Something to do with the wifi or sd card

That's what I used, so far I haven't had any boot loop issues though. I don't have a AllCast Dongle, so I can't comment on that, I wonder if I should avoid getting one for now.
Maybe the LTE version doesn't.. the Wi-Fi one does. I tried every method to undo it including flashing back to stock.

I can affirm that it will not work if rooted with CF-Autoroot. I get an error that somes something like "cannot connect due to hardware error" or something. I tried unrooting, did not work. I tried triangleaway, did not work. I tried re-flashing stock, did not work. I returned my all-share cast hub instead. I'd rather have root.
I am rooted and P600 will connect to a samsung tv and my Miracast receiver.
I read online it just nukes AllShare Cast cause apparently it reads the flash counter on startup. I had to exchange it for a new one. I tried all recommended fixes nothing seemed to stick
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
I have a p601 initially rooted with cf-auto root. l unrooted it and installed stock firmware with Odin. Allshare cast dongle is working fine. I'm not sure it has anything to do with the flash counter, because my flash counter is 6 and the Knox is tripped.
Sent from my SM-P601 using xda premium
I sold my allshare dongle a couple of weeks ago,but with my old note 10.1 rooting was not the problem.Once i putted a custom recovery on it the dongle stopped to work, with stock recovery on it there were no problems.

rooted without trigger knox 0x0?
how?
Im not sure what it is Knox or flash or whatever. Just saying once I rooted it was nuked. I tried going back to stock and didn't help. Exchanged for a new one

The rooting tbreads clearly warn that the Knox flag might be irreversibly triggered depending on the rooting method.
The know flag can be checked when booting in download mode (boot with power and volume down pressed, then volume up and a set of parametets is shown upper left including Knox status and system status)
It is yet unknown which effects the Knox trigger has.

SGS5 Root

I think of rooting my SGS5 just to get Titanium Backup to work and to stop ads from spoiling my phone..
If I ROOT with CF autoroot and just stay on stock rom... Will I loose some of the features in the phone.. Like AllShare or Screen mirroring ?

Nope. It might have been the case for the s4 but allshare cast still works after root albeit it mad fidgety and crashes after a few minutes. I have no idea why you would use screen cast anyway with all the alternatives available. Anyway the answer is yes it'll still work. It did for me.

I don't think so. Root gives you a custom status, which prevents you from getting updates. You need to get them off of sammy and odin them to your device.

Hmmm... Okay. Thats a shame.. Then I could as well go all the way and use a custom rom.. ? In ODIN I need full wipe every time ? Or what?
If I use ect OMEGA ROM I will be able to flash with NO FULL WIPE in recovery...
I dont know what to choose.......

This method did not trip Knox, which is still at 0x0! Not sure if flashing a custom rom or recovery will though.

It's been a long time since I've played with custom stuff. I rooted my Evo LTE 2 years ago, and haven't been able to afford a new device since.
I'm liking the "stock" experience as I no longer like dealing with bugs. When I get my GS5 tomorrow, can I root and then just use root things like Titanium without bothering to install a custom ROM? I'm sure the answer is yes, but I've never left a phone "stock rooted" before so I'm not sure.

Yep, long as SU is installed on your system, you can do what we're you'd like, even on a stock rom. You can also use the Xposed engine for certain mods, if you don't want a custom.
Jsut depends if the if the modules that you pick work or not.

Flashing a custom recovery/kernel/ROM will trip Knox so IMO it doesn't matter about that. Plus the fact I tripped Knox on the first day!
It Works on non rooted Sprint S5
I love this guy! Geohot always goes the extra mile with his exploits. 1 click and done. No PC necessary. I've used this on several previously "unrootable" ATT phones. Freaking awesome!!!
Is the the great man from the ps3 scene?
All we need now is Wifi Calling and the phone is perfect with Knox at 0x0
That and decent signal strength! I have been waiting for a non knox trip root because I so want to return this POS to sprint. Now with root I may keep it!!!

Used towelroot method on my friend's S4, which was on a locked down 4.4.2, to see how it worked. Simple install of two apks and you're rooted with SuperSU; couldn't be any simpler. Kudos to that guy.
Not the only way to root the Verizon S4, but by far the simplest.
Now if we could find a way to de-knox without tripping it in the first place.

If you are not a Verizon subscriber...you can't get any of Verizon's updates over the air....wifi or otherwise. You can get them at www.sammobile.com once you become a member (it's free to be a member].

No i dont have a verizon account i bought the phone from third hand...
But with the OB6 manage to use the method of the 2 tar files to flash and succesfully came with everything, the problem is the next one, on the boot first screen says CUSTOM with the unlock lock draw or symbol, but i cant find the superuser app anywhere....
No when I reboot the phone, takes to long and says system something then I say ok and shutsdown, the only way to enter to android is recovery and delete cache...
Any way to fix this, and altought it says iu was installing the app, i cant find it, should I install the SUPERUSER app?
