[How To] Enable WiFi Hotspot on Rooted Lollipop OC1 ROM's - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

Enable native tethering on Galaxy Note 3 AT&T (SM-N900A) running Android 5.0
This is personally Tested on my Galaxy Note 3 running rooted OC1 5.0 Rom
and Galaxy S4 AT&T SGH-I337 running rooted 5.0 rom
Backup your existing TetheringProvision.apk (I just renamed my old one TetheringProvision.apk1)
place modded apk in system/app/TetheringProvision/
Make sure permissions are set as seen in screenshot
delete TetheringProvision/ARM folder before rebooting
Reboot device
????????????
Profit!
As always this is at your own risk

It works!! I have to delete TetheringProvision/arm and reboot. Thanks a bunch, have been looking for this for a while.

Awesome! Glad to hear that it worked for you.
Sofar I've far I have tested the modded APK on ;
AT&T Galaxy S4 on both Android 4.4.4 and 5.0
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Android 5.0
At&T Samsung Galaxy S5 on 4.4.2

AT&T Note 3 here and i can say it works and is much better than the last workaround i tried. Basically after using the tether I had to restart the phone to reenable wifi.
Edit: Spoke too soon. When I turn off the hotspot wifi comes back on and connects. However, the occasional web page will refuse to load. Will only load 3/4 of the way unless I leave it for like 2 minutes. Pages with embedded video don't load within that time period at all. But youtube embeds work as does the app. Restarting the phone fixes everything.
At least it is progress in my case! Using an app before would cause wifi to show as toggeled on, but refused to connect or turn off.

Hello guys I'm new to the android devices I tried to install this apk file but it just tells me that it is not installed is their another app that I need to get this to work I just rooted my note 3 yesterday and upgraded to the lollipop thanks in advance

WaNam xposed for lollipop that's how.

Thanks for this

Galaxy Note 3 (9000A) on CricKet network running 4.4.2. Towelrooted months ago and TouchWiz recently began crashing, so I finally did a factory reset. Lost ability to hotspot tether using FoxFi/PdaNet. Did the reset change some settings? If so, how do I change them back? Perhaps someone more experienced could walk me through the apk change or point me to a "____ for Idiots" type tutorial.

Anyone try this on OC2?

If you are rooted, use Wanam Xposed & MotoTether. I use this method on Cricket. Then just use the native tether on phone.

Great thanks cgm8.
I spent almost 2 hrs based on OPs steps but it kept saying "TetheringProvision.apk failed" or something after each reboot and then I almost gave up.
Luckily I saw your post that we should delete the ARM folder so I thought of giving it a last try...just in case you know.
And BOOM... after deleting the ARM folder and rebooting again, no error and then when I went to settings to enable HotSpot, it enabled flawless...lol
OP, can you pls add this simple step i.e. delete TetheringProvision/ARM folder before rebooting so everyone gets 100% success in this...???
Anyway, thanks a lot OP for this or else nothing else matters...

Will Att still see you tethering without the correct plan?

tried this on my s4 i337 att running 5.0.1 and kingroot, seemed to work and could see the access point but then it kept resetting and saying access point active over and over. had to reboot to stop it. could it be kingroot, if so, will remove with supersume pro.

an update. I used supersume pro, gave me trouble doing it so I had to remove some of the kingroot files manually. seems to be working, super su working. as for the apk provision files, no joy, seems something is different in 5.0.1 so i went with wifi tether router and that works just fine. finally, its been a long road to get here...

I have Rooted NC1 lollipop flashed via SS recovery.
Followed all steps but hotspot not working.
Also there is no ARM folder inside TetheringProvision...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE , New Method to Enable Tethering Hotspot :
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. installed "XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk" (for lollipop)
2. Flashed "xposed-sdk21-arm-20150430-arter97-V3.zip" via softstrap recovery (Note 3 at&t only)
3. Rebooted and Installed "com.dym.motoxtether_v5_aa815c.apk".
4. Open Xposed Installer -> Modules -> Check X Tether Module and Reboot Phone.
5. Done !! Tethering is Working Now.
This Process has been tested on Note 3 AT&T Running on Lollipop 5.0 Stock.
All files attached here and taken from xda.

Thank you. The tether apk worked fine from the first post. And the xposed worked from the post above. I now believe my phone is as good as it can get while locked.

Works like a charm - S5 Active G870A
I did the steps and its working, for now an hour with no issues. Even ran a few matches of Fortnite on the Xbox! There were some slightly different folders/names. But, I figured which ones to delete.
Thanks!

WiFi Hotspot toggle with root..

Let me start by saying I have FoxFi and I know it works fine, but I want just the Hotspot toggle to work.
I have my Note 3 rooted and the HotSpot toggle added, but I get the Verizon "no subscription" message every time I turn it on. Can you use a SQL editor and modify something to get around that error? I noticed in the global database within settings.db that tether_run_required = 0 already... I thought that was the thing to change, but it's already 0.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what the edit is but if you ask in one of the ROM threads someone will surely know. You could always install a ROM other than stock that has the Hotspot bypass enabled.
This is what I'm using with the toggle.

Ok so xposed does have a module for that... Does it work on 4.3? Notice that thread mentioned 4.4 mainly.

I don't know I'm on the 4.4.2 leak but you can flash the zip for 4.3 found in the development section.

Just want to say thanks for the "X tether" xposed module suggestion. It did exactly what I wanted on 4.3 too. Now I just tap the Hotspot toggle and it works . No more using Foxfi app directly.

Can soe one send me the update and tell me how or point me to a tutorial ( preferably on youtube ) to update kitkat with out loosing root.
Thank you very much

[Q] I can't install apps outside of the Play Store

Hello everyone,
I finally rooted my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 and I'm really enjoying the benefits of a rooted phone.
So far so good. I have just one Problem: I seem to not be able to install .apk files I downloaded from the internet even tough I allowed the installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store in the settings menu. You can see it here.
I didn't change a thing after rooting and I had no problems before the root. I also rebooted a couple of times already.
To root my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 I used the Auto-Root method from Chainfire (awesome guy! :good: ) that can be found here. My Adroid version ist 4.4.2.
I am really thankful for all your help. I appreciate it!
Sincerely Nero
Didn't do anything but it seems to be working again.

You can use wondershare mobilego to root the phone. The software has one-click root. This is the easiest way however the software also install a lot adds on your phone.
If you want to do the clean manual route...
1.You need to downgrade your phone to Kit-kat 4.4.2 NB1/NC1 .
2. Use towel root to root the phone.
3. Install safestrap or flash fire.
4. Flash the desire Lollipop rom via safestrap or flashfire.
You can find all the instruction and files in this post.
question after downgrading can i upgrade back to 5.0.1 or do i have to use a custom rom ?

You do not have to. There are stock rooting 5.0.1 roms. You can find them in here.

Don't know much about magisk on i-337. . I am not sure whether you need a unlocked bootloader to use magisk. I saw magisk on zenfone 2 though. Then again zenfone 2 bootloader can be unlocked. All the i377 BL are locked. Only the initial one (ADB, MDL) could be exploitable (not unlock).
My next phone gonna be something other then Samsung and something other then att for sure lol

Then you better be on T-mobile
Most smart phone make for US came with locked bootloaders.
To avoid that I bought international version. The problem with international phone on ATT network is that you can not get 4GLTE signal for mobile data. You can get either 3G or 4G based on your phone. ATT told me that only phone make for ATT network could get the 4GLTE signal.
I heard international phone can get 4GLTE signal on T-mobile network.

There isn't a single method that has worked properly for me.

I have a used note 4. The note 4 is from t-mobile, running Android 6.0.1, SM-910T....98% of rooting methods just brick the phone into the samsung welcome screen. The one method I did find that successfully rooted the phone didn't allow me to use the phone properly being that the sim card I use is for AT&T. So Voicemail didn't work, data didn't work, Navigation didn't work..The phone was basically useless.. I can never get any actual help from anyone here or a clear set of instructions on how to accomplish what I need to do....My note 4 is unlocked...I need to root the note 4...I then need to install an os/firmware that works with AT&T. It shouldn't be that difficult. Yet it's proving impossible to accomplish.

Since your rooted with twrp. You can just install a root browser and delete bloatware. Just make sure you know what your deleting.
And AT&T should work the way it is. You probably just need to set up your apn.
