Just want to say that I've rooted, removed all boat including knox and made some of my normal mods including xposed with gravitybox.
It all works and my heart rate monitor all works.
The thing that's confusing me is that people say the heart rate monitor stops working once rooted or xposed is installed?

hi. I'm rooted and the heart rate monitor is ok, as all services about s-health are unfrozen (or not uninstalled).
Mine is fine too, issues just random I guess

Can't sleep tonight so just researching apps this morning. Have you guys or gals used either? Do you recommend one over the other?
BatteryGuru is officially made by Qualcomm so you would expect it to be pretty key to phone optimisation. Also it didn't require root.
Greenify had received many great reviews and the author is constantly updating which is good. Requires root however.
Thanks!

Greenify here and happy
I'm running battery guru and it works quite well, it'll take about 5 days to give you some savings, but it works. I'm way more impressed then I ever though I'd be...

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I'm testing Snapdragon BatteryGuru so far but still learning and will let you know how it helps. Scared to root yet!

No real reason to be scared to root any more. We have the stock images in case you soft brick, boot loop, etc. I was worried to, but it was an extremely simple and quick root process. You just plug in the phone and your rooted after a couple mouse clicks
Also, I recommend freezing the ota applications in TiBu. Never know when at&t may send an OTA that could patch the boot loader exploit. Better be safe than sorry with this one.
Sorry to drag the thread off topic. Just thought I would throw in my $.02 after your comment on rooting. Best of luck

How does that greenify app work? Say you select all your apps, and then it hibernates them does it wake up when needed or if you get a message or notification?
The app specifically says not to enable apps that have certain notifications such as SMS and whatnot, so I would make sure that you don't do it to apps that you need to be notified.

They will wake up when you open them, then hibernate when you close them. Basically if you use it for all apps expect to not mulitask at all (looking at messages, wont recieve phone calls; looking at Internet, wont recieve SMS)
If you have to use either one you don't know how to save your battery. Get better battery stats and learn what is causing your battery drain. These apps only use battery.

Greenify uses a lot less battery then tons of bad apps running. I like using Facebook app but couldn't careless about the notifications and such. Yes I coukd go in and stop them but not all apps let me (cnet for example) so having a single place to hibernate the apps I dont want running in the background is nice.
A lot of people seem unaware of this and keep telling me that they can't greenify google play services and other system apps because they are running ART.
I'm running ART as well. I used this little app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover to convert play services, search and maps, amongst others, to user apps. After that, I could just greenify them. The apps still work, and are just greenified automatically when the screen is off for a few minutes. As you can see below, there are no more wakelocks!

These are the apps i have greenified. It now drains nearly nothing over night (0-1%)

Nice tips! Thanks a lot.
Although I though the restriction was related to being System Apps and not ART itself?

Not exactly. Rooted + Dalvik runtime + Xposed Framework + paid version of Greenify will give the ability to hibernate system apps. Otherwise, you do need to make the system apps user apps like Arthedes pointed out. You could also do the same thing manually with any file manger, if rooted.
So, Xposed framework is now ART compatible?

I beleive so. I'm not really certain. You should check the xposed main thread on xda. i think I saw it there a few weeks ago.

Cheers for the tips
OK, it is now out of control. I need to access Yahoo mail but here is one of the latest permissions just released:
RECORD AUDIO (Microphone):
"Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation".
I suspect the reason for this is to enable voice search, but the above statement allows a whole lot more.
In the past week or so I have been seeing a lot of these ridiculous permissions. I guess the battle to monetize on your personal information is heating up drastically.
So, can anyone recommend an app that they are using with the stock ROM, rooted, that I can either selectively per installed app or permanently disable access to the hardware (microphone, camera, etc.). It would be nice if the app works with all other non-hardware related permissions as well. I see there are apps for custom ROMS (Xposed, PDdroid), but I really don't want to install everything on my phone from scratch again, and the stock rooted ROM does everything that I need.
Xposed with app ops. Works great. xposed works fine on stock rom

Thanks. Just installed it and works great.
I try to deny as many permissions as possible. Most apps work perfectly fine even though most permissions have been denied.

I was wondering about that. I actually tried this out on a few, and the apps kept on working. The only problem I see with all of this is that most apps update automatically and the authors are constantly sneeking in new permissions. This is going to become a maintenance nightmare. Can I at least prevent apps from automatically updating so I can check them out one at a time before I update, which would help out a little?
You can disable automatic updates in the play store settings. You'll just get a notification of new updates available so you can check them first.

Great, I never even knew there were settings in there.
Today I switched from AppOppsXposed to Xprivacy. Because in AppOppsXposed the apps were spread all over the place under different heading categories, and repeated under different headings in some cases, it was a bit of a pain trying to locate all the apps. Xprivacy is better set up in that regard, has much finer controls, several global settings options, and in most cases instead of blocking data it sends fake data, thus reducing the chance of an app not working or crashing. It was incredible the massive amount of things I was able to block, with no affect on any of the running apps.

No, I haven't frozen or removed anything.
Just a shot in the dark, but..Try uninstalling updates, clearing cache and data. Reboot and check it.

Hi,
Lately my battery has been a lot worse on my 6P and I mean to install an app to try to figure out the cause, but most of them require to be installed as system app.
I use android pay daily, and I'm on stock rooted (systemless).
Would installing one of those apps as system app break android pay?
Thank you very much!
I have BBS installed but not as a system app and it seems to work fine. My device passes the safetynet check but I rarely have the opportunity to use Android Pay. I've actually only been to one place that accepted AP but it worked there with no issue a couple months ago.

I'm running unrooted with the gsam root companion app in system-priv (installed via twrp), and am able to use Android pay. I'm currently using N preview 4, but pretty sure this worked on M as well.
