[Q] How bad is my soft brick? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have posted to this thread before and am very thankful for the help provided.
Now, I have been doing LOTS of reading on unbricking a soft bricked GS4 from AT&T but have no luck.
I have read that unbricking a soft bricked phone is usually a piece of cake, but I guess I'm just really unlucky :crying:
I have tried many methods, from wiping data in recovery, flashing stock roms, and so on, but haven't really succeeded with any method.
Just now, I wiped/formatted the cache and data in recovery one more time, made sure my battery was at 100%, and flashed a
stock firmware in Odin 3.09 using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
The end result was as follows:

Thanks a lot for any help!

Your phone is higher than the amdl bootloader. You will need to try the mk2 or higher tar package. I think they might be linked in the general section.

So flashing an MK2 or NB1 tar in Odin should fix it?

Yep. Remember you will be back to full stock, no root.

Because MDC isn't close to the latest .tar for this phone. You have either MK2 or NAE on your phone and you cannot go back to a previous build. Odin one of those and you'll be fine.

Correct. All of this is getting really old and people need to search more and read. Plus download the latest tar files.

I have a nandroid backup to my stock root on my internal sd card. Someone lend me a hand please
Can you boot into recovery? Usually a soft brick is easily fixable. If you can boot into recovery, go to backups and restore and restore your nandroid backup from there.

Well instead of trying to correct me, help him. Anyway, Samsung's stock recovery has a few extra options. I'm not really familiar with Samsung devices, but I thought that their recovery was pretty close to CWM.. I may be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere.
I have fixed it now. Just by trial and error. Of. Stock firmware that I have found

Want to root on 4.2.2 MDL

A long time ago I sent my phone in for repairs (screen). I factory reset it and lost root. I don't even remember how I rooted it, it was an automated tool. After it came back from repairs, it still had 4.2.2 and MDL (it was a repair shop not Samsung).
Whenever I reset/turn phone off and back on, I get an error about com.android something, but only then, it works normally after. Due to this error, my phone tries to upgrade but fails (thankfully). I want to root my phone but I'm afraid it will fail because of that error. What exactly should I do next? I asked in another thread and I was told Motochopper was the best tool to root on 4.2.2. I just want to get rid of this error then root, that's it, what should I do next?
Moto chopper should work. I'm guessing towelroot would too. https://towelroot.com

But do you think I can just use it the way my phone is now? Someone told me to do a Factory Reset with Odin, but I have no idea how to do that. All the tutorials I find mention downloading something (apart from Odin itself), why would I need to do that if I'm just resetting?
This is the error I get "com.android.phone has stopped working".
I think I've already tried factory resetting with the physical buttons method and I still keep getting that.

Odin flashes the factory firmware, it does a lot more than a factory reset. You need to download the mdl firmware and flash that in Odin. You can get it at sammobile.com. It's a zip file, you need to extract it using 7-zip or win rar. After it's extracted you end up with a .tar.md5 file. That's what you use in Odin.
If you do flash it, the phone will want to update via the ota. You should make sure it doesn't do that by rooting it and freezing out deleting the update apps. There are three files and I don't remember their names

[q] i337 bootloader i9505 rom

When I go to ODIN mode my PRODUCT NAME IS I337. However when i go to the about section in settings it says I9505. The phone is from China and I have rooted it I want to install a rom on this (5.0 prefferably maybe stock). Please help out also when I try to OTA update it says AT&T and no new update while its on 4.3.
Please help
If its running a custom or none stock ROM the about section will show wrong. I would remove the battery see what it says and Odin that firmware from sammobile. Sounds like you have a i337 running international variant of the rom. If it does say i337 don't do anything above MDL.

I'd say just find and flash the NB1 ODIN tar file from the general section then. Either find the thread for it or check the [INDEX] thread.
The boot loop is a soft brick most of the time you'll need to Odin it to get it to boot. I'd try MDL if it boot loops still that means your on a newer version you'll need to flash the newer tar file.

I was surprised to find that this flash wasn't successful because I've flashed this firmware on the phone multiple times with ease. After looking around on google for quite some time, I haven't yet found a solution witch is the reason why I am writing this post. I am not sure how to fix this error and would really appreciate some help. Thanks

I was surprised to find that this flash wasn't successful because I've flashed this firmware on the phone multiple times with ease. After looking around on google for quite some time, I haven't yet found a solution witch is the reason why I am writing this post. I am not sure how to fix this error and would really appreciate some help. Thanks
This is the file I downloaded from SamMobile's website:

This is a screenshot of the Odin after running the flash:

Hey no worries mate. I just didn't want you waiting for an answer and not getting it because the readers don't use your model [emoji6]

Make sure that you are in fact using the same carrier and model firmware as your phone.
Also maybe @Misterjunky can help
