[Q] turning on new phone and it shows unlocked and custom - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I turn on my s5 att varient it shows a padlock unlocked and says custom, all I have done was install SD card and change runtime system from dalvik to art. Anyone have any ideas? Can the phone really be unlocked?

Switching to art makes it custom. Going back to davlik makes it normal again.

I switched back yesterday and it stayed the same. So I just switched it back but rebooted twice this time and now it's gone. I wish it was just that easy to unlock the phone. Thanks for the info. Also why do you think the lock is unlocked?

Haven't got a clue about the padlock as I've got a stock handset.

Password entry while in stock recovery O_o

So i was checking out the Sprint GSII today in the sprint store and it had a screen lock password on it so i figured some punk put a password on there. I proceeded to go into the stock recovery to do a data wipe and get rid of the screen lock too check out the phone. I navigated too the wipe function, confirmed it then... IT ASKED ME TO ENTER IN THE PASSWORD WHILE IN RECOVERY! The a keyboard came up and everything IN RECOVERY
This must mean you can run apks while in recovery? Can someone confirm the same thing on other GS2 versions by creating a screen lock password and trying to wipe cache or data on the stock recovery?
Maybe other devices can do this too, but ive NEVER noticed it. Does this make GUI's for recoveries possible with touch enabled to eliminate volume button abuse? If someone can figure out how sammy is doing it, that is. Because as far as i know, running an apk in recovery just flat out isn't possible.
^ Teamwin stole my idea, which I am perfectly okay with
If you have an screen lock password set then you need to enter it when using the recovery option.

so let me get you right here.... you went in to the sprint store and tried to hack the display model??? only to be asked for a password....

Yes, but this is the first time a phone has ever done that too me. How is a ime.apk running while in recovery?

I've only ever had HTC phones til this nexus, HTC phones don't do it
Why hasn't a dev ever picked up the idea for a recovery GUI if you can run have touch enabled in recovery?
I tried to put password on my device, the international galaxy s2
., went to the recovery without any verification passwords?
By the I'm using custom kernal

I think it's good if your phone has a password and it was stolen, then the thief can't just wipe the phone, but if you ever forget that shyt, stresssss

You have a custom recovery, I'm assuming so it wouldn't have a lock.
Even if the thief couldn't wipe it from recovery, Odin would anyways. So I think its sorta pointless.

Even flashing a wipe firmware with repartition will not get rid of the password prompt.

Use the pin unlock screen and set a unlock pin. After try to flash a new firmware or wipe the device from recovery.

Dude you're using a custom recovery. It only works with the stock one.
Would be nice if the PIN is only needed power on, then it would be a nice security feature. But having to enter it everytime I use the phone is kinda annoying.
Of course, i use pattern lock if anything. Less annoying.
But the main point im trying to make, is that if a keyboard can run, why cant there be touch enabled GUIs for recovery?

[Q] My nexus 4, not upgrading to ART

Hi Team,
I tried to switch to ART on my Nexus 4, but my phone goes into a loop where it didnt turn into ART, I had to force re-boot to bring it back to life as it was trying to convert all Apps into ART so I left the whole night to convert, but by morning, it was not complete and hence force-rebooted as I needed my mobile. Is this a regular thing?
When I try to redo the process again, it still goes into that recursive loop, where the Logo keeps playing and nothing happens..
Is there a way I can still get onto ART despite this?
I am using Stock Nexus, without a lot of playing around with it.
BR, Harsha
Are you using xposed? It's not compatible with art

xposed revert back to dalvik.
-----
if you are on stock, and didnt mod any system app, you can use art normaly.
however ART can take up to an hour(my phone took that, with 224 apps) to fully boot
so you really need to wait...

Like I mentioned earlier, I had left the mobile for upgrade for a whole night. Thats a minimum of 7 hours.
Do you think, it may take 7 hours for 155 applications?
Is there a way I see, which app is causing this issue?

I've done it on a locked phone. Aside from an EXTRA long boot up, it should be about the same, I gather.
fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.

It's not compatible with Xposed framework. Are you using that? It auto disables.

Probably a coincidence, but after I switched to ART then back to DALVIK and then wiped cache etc my Moto Maxx DE went into a Force Close frenzy that could not be recovered from. I was unable to flash anything so it completely toasted phone. I didn't do any flashing of ROMs or anything odd. Froze some apps via Titanium backup but other than that the only thing I did was switch from DALVIK to ART and back. BOOM! TOAST! I'll never use ART again!

[Q] Nexus 4 Lollipop won't boot - spinning circles

My Nexus 4 won't boot. It gets stuck at the spinning colored circles. I picked up my phone in the morning and the charge was down to 4%, and as I was entering my pin to unlock it powered off. I have lollipop and received the update OTA a couple of weeks ago, and it has been fine. I did not manually install lollipop.
I tried clearing the cache, and it still won't boot. Any ideas of what else I could try? I really don't want to do a factory reset.
Thank you in advance.

Yes.
Oh, that would explain it.
It crashed while decrypting, and I fear, there is no option to save your data.
Maybe someone other has an idea, I don't have one, sorry.

Ya, that's what I was afraid of. I'm not sure if I finished entering my pin or not before it powered it self off.
unplug anything from the usb port , then give it another shot.

[Q] Sudden fingerprint "No match" error? Possible secure storage error.

Hi guys.
I'm really stuck here. My fingerprint sensor suddenly started showing me 'no match' when I try to scan it, but I can unlock my screen with the emergency password.
However, if I try to access private mode, neither my fingerprint nor my backup password works.
Can anyone shed some light on this matter?
Thanks.
EDIT: My phone is an SM-910F.

Try deleting your fingerprints and adding them again, or maybe restarting the phone would help.

I can't even access my fingerprint manager. And I've restarted a few times to no avail.
It also seems that the only place my emergency password works is the lock screen. I can't even change my lock type.
